    This video is brilliantly done. The compositions are beautiful. The color grading is beautiful. The editing is beautiful. The interview is fascinating-the parts that I can understand, at least. It's hard to believe this was uploaded a decade ago. I've watched a bunch of videos on Varanasi but I haven't seen one done better than this.

    well, I have to doubt that this city is the oldest inhabited city in the world - Damascus in Syria had people living there uninterupted for 1000 more years...

    @glorplaxy my frend. First of all Hinduism is not a modren religion. Its a faith of multiple gods same as greek mythology. but all other modern religions evolved very recently. and when u refer to damascus, u r talking about civilization. if so, then u r still wrong, harappa and mohenjadaro are much more older than damascus. Google it. plz dont go for biased info. and yes varanasi formed soon after harappa civilization which can be counted as one of the oldest cities in the world

    So in fact Religion isn't a part of culture but culture is a part of religion as a matter of expediency for the corporate entity called a Religion's continuity.

    Religion originates within the divisive process called civilization.
    Culture does not need religion. Religion needs culture because without culture civilization falls. Culture is inclusive. Religion is divisive. Naturally so for it comes from within a divisive process called civilization.
    btw... Your disdain for intellect is manifest.

    @glorplaxy i m not comparing varanasi with damascus u dummy . i said it is counted as ONE OF THE OLDEST CITIES. evidences of ages are available everywhere . not only in damascus. if u consider a group of people living together as a city then there were cities in africa much before than 10000BC . a place with group of people in african savanna must be a city .
    records show significant number of people settled there only after 2k BC, by that time Harappa was already a major civilization.

    i know cast system has fall back, but the truth is that indian culture has been preserved since thousand years is due to caste system only.........
    there is good in every bad and bad in every good....!!

  • @kalikaputra
    @kalikaputra 14 років тому

    @pavancreddy Dude your arguing about civilization using present day view of history do you know there are alternate theories? Look at thsoe under water temples in japan there estimated date is 15,000 to 50,000 years and thats an under estimate. The fact is there are archeological findings out there that blow the "we were cave men" theory out of the water. So its funny your talking confidently about damascus using a theory. NEWS FLASH theories change.

  • @Revolvingsound

    You never defined culture, you never named a culture with a religion, and you deleted your previous posts so no one could see the remarks you made! Nice one, just go back to your hole. At least you have learned a few things in this discussions, I guess that is good? The original topic wasn't about if religion is a part of culture or not, it was about the caste and class system, which you thought were the same thing. But you conveniently deleted all those old posts.

  • @Photonzos
    @Photonzos 11 років тому

    You have absolutely no idea what culture is. Yes as a matter of fact I am qualified as you describe it however I have nothing but the greatest respect for autodidacts.
    When you find out what culture is/does I'll provide you with edible hats.

  • @Photonzos
    @Photonzos 11 років тому

    1. Actually culture can get along fine without religion. Religion is a construct. Culture is integral to our survival optimum.
    Perhaps you might need to go back to basics to understand what religion is. Take a look at its dictionary definition first. You see culture is a necessary part of religion. Religions which veer too far from culture don't last long. However Culture can step away from religion at any time.

  • @Revolvingsound
    @Revolvingsound 12 років тому

    Troll? Sounds like you with ur "religion is shit" attitude. You think you are qualified to define culture? Okay professor, enlighten us. BTW Religion is a part of culture not some separate entity. The very foundations of culture are based in the belief in the supernatural and spirit world, also known in an organized form as religion! Read a book! You can start at your local community college, take a course in cultural anthropology that is if your headache free society has such courses?

  • @Revolvingsound
    @Revolvingsound 11 років тому

    Lame: "survival optimum", "corporate entity" are you serious is that your vocabulary for addressing questions of culture and religion? You haven't the slightest idea what you are talking about, hence you never answered the original questions which I posed months ago. "Religion is a construct" please, everything is a construct, I'm not impressed. "Culture can step away from religion at anytime" ??? Ha! Okay China, good luck with that!

  • @Revolvingsound
    @Revolvingsound 12 років тому

    Dear Photonzos,
    hahaha at least you have a sense of humor! First off your are grossly misinformed about caste and class systems. There is a big difference. A caste system cannot be a class system, so go ahead look it up and then make an informed stance. Instead of making a big stink about things you know nothing about. You are basing everything on your own, "religion is shit" attitude. Unfortunately your emotional stance will not hold ground in any real discussion on culture or sociology.

  • @Revolvingsound
    @Revolvingsound 12 років тому

    What, you're back again? Maybe you should address the points I previously raised, or maybe just ignore them because you don't know what the hell you are talking about? lol. Name a culture without a religion/spiritual belief system. Your definition and concept of "civilization" is right out of some cheap textbook and tainted with your western imperialist mindset e.g. completely off, as normal with you. Your "disdain" for knowledge and education is manifest, let alone intellect!
