Right back to high school. Lying on the beach, the sun's warmth, the smell of suntan lotion, this song on someone's transister radio, gentle sound of waves, girls walking by, kids playing along the shoreline, a plane in the air, pulling an advertisement for Crazy Eddie's electronic stores. Life was good on that day.

@@BarracusObamus I have a sneaking suspicion that in regards to the Ed Sullivan Show, it became a "familiarity breeds contempt" situation. For many years, Ed Sullivan was a Sunday-Night staple. There was an old joke that went "Why is everything closed on Sunday? For Church and Ed Sullivan." 10 million Americans tuned in to Sullivan every Sunday night. But when you do that for nearly a quarter of a century, I dunno.... for whatever reason.... it wasn't as "hip" to appear on Sullivan. I suppose because by that point, there was a myriad of other, much more "with it" shows like Laugh In, The Smothers Brothers, The Hollywood Palace, Playboy After Dark.... so there was a heck of a lot more competition. Sullivan himself was never seen as being the voice of a generation; and while he was on the ball for most of his tenure, by 1969/1970, he was still having the same guests re-appear. Not sure if that was his choosing or the networks, though.
@@willdrucker4291 Not true at all in my opinion. If you read the book Marlo Lewis the long time producer wrote. There was a change in management at CBS. The new young baby CBS management executives ended the show.

I was 13 and feel the same way. I couldn't tell you what I had for breakfast this morning, but I remember this episode of Ed Sullivan from 51 years ago.

I was born in 76. Now 48 years old. This was popular when my mom and dad were coming along. I'm nowhere near their age but I love listening to the oldies because that's what I grew up hearing! My mom has now been gone almost 10 years. Miss you and us listening and singing!
This was the very first album I ever bought just for myself. I was only 13. I would go on to get every album they made. What I wouldn’t give to have to have all my old albums now. It’s hard to believe this group only lasted five years. By 1974 the ride was pretty much over. But what a ride.
To Tee Arr Bee: Really? Do you think? today's teens? I'd hope and pray they could relate to this type of soul music sound. ---------------- I feel as if the youth have their culture purposely backfiring upon the good that was bestowed upon the communities of erstwhile.
Good Lord what a wonderful musical era that was! In the decade of the 1960's, the music world was in a beautiful cosmic trance that can never be duplicated.
The more I listen to 60's groups and solo singers, I realize how hip my mom was. I was born in the 60's and my parents had a massive record collection. Music was always present in my home growing up with my 2 sisters. My mom was super hip and had a lot of 60's music in her record library. Vinyl records.... she was more hip and stylish than my dad.. unfortunately she became a Covid victim in 2021.. I miss her dearly every day but I know she's with God now. This song by Friends of Distinction along with tons of Motown songs were part of what was heard in my home growing up. I remember as a small child watching some of the Ed Sullivan shows that had the pop singers of the 60's. I sometimes get misty-eyed watching this because it reminds me of my mom😢.
Wow what happened to this world I’m born 1965 and this tune came out in the 70es I’m blessed to be born in the days when our woman didn’t have to be naked on stage and the men where in suits and clean having fun doing what they loved to do this new generation need to take a look back into time and learn from it and all the bands was live not all this new i toon my suggestion to any new band or group go back in time and learn from the true pros and legends
To think, a couple months after this footage was shot, American audiences would no longer be given live episodes of THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW.😢 Even new technical aspects of the live format crept into the performances. Going into 1970, many great singles utilized multi-track recording methods. More and more, artists would still sing live, but with the background track instead of Ray Bloch and his great orchestra playing.
That could be a good wish, but I submit that while the Friends of Distinction represent among the best of everyone during those times, the country was being ripped apart- the politics of race, of war and anti-war, of the haves and have nots and just plain nastiness going on at every turn, and some of us were back in south east asia for our second or third time. A lot of blood was being shed there And here. My God... just goes to show that what goes around comes around, be at least we have cds of these and others and UA-cam. All ain't lost... YET.
Oh, how I miss these songs from my childhood! I was born in 1960. Whenever I heard this song on the radio, I just assumed it was The Fifth Dimension. It’s very “ groovy “
The drummer and bongo player, respectively are Ed Gordon and King Errisson of the incredible bongo band fame (bongo rock & Apache) two of the most sampled songs in hip-hop history! another fact; Ed Gordon, who had mental issues, not long after this recording was created, bludgeoned his mother to death. He spent almost 40 years in a mental institution before his death.

They’re old!😂. Or look old. Where’s all the black people?!
@@paulsmith2279 🙄

No we don’t!
This actually sounds like a live performance. It's GREAT!!!!
Such a great song!
I am back listening to this song, December 13, 2024. I send a shout out to my college dorm mates in Truth House on the campus at Morgan State University in 1975. RIP, my friends because we had so much fun in the 70's on the yard at Morgan State University.😢
Okay, okay I will answer you already. Yes, I can dig it. I dig it now in 2024 just as I did in summer of 1969 at 11 years old.
An absolutely *INCREDIBLE* song.
*THANK YOU!*

Jennifer Hudson
Ed Sullivan show, black and white tv! I remember watching this , even the BEATLES! Born in the 50s ,raised 60s, educated 70s, retired 2016! Enjoy remembering those good old days! Peace and Aloha from Hawaii
I have always loved this song, and this performance is sheer joy. From back in the days when music actually made you feel GOOD.
I totally agree!
@@vw1649 ME TOO !!!!!
This song is great! The group is great! Music like this makes me feel happy. They sound so much like the 5th Dimention when doing this song. Also, a big shout out to Ed Sullivan.
I can dig it.
I was just born as this song was coming out but its still one of my favorite songs. And the girl in white is one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen
65 years later and it still sounds fantabulous !!
Is it 2035 already?

Happy people singing a happy song. This is why I love music. It makes me feel good. x
Amazingly wonderful harmony both body rhytmn and lyrics
I was 14 years old, this takes me back to a wonderful time in life!
I was 13 and feel the same way. I couldn't tell you what I had for breakfast this morning, but I remember this episode of Ed Sullivan from 51 years ago.
I was 14, too. The best music is from our childhood!
I was 12, and crazy for it!
I had turned 14 just 4 days before this aired. It was a magical time in my life.I will always cherish the beautiful music of that wonderful time of my life.
Yeah; I Was 9 yrs. old in 1970 and just can not wait to see watch group would be the Sullivan show that week. Had so much fun watching. I remember when the J5 was on for the first time. That was also a joy to watch. So many great memories.
I got a gem …walked into Maverick Flats in the 70’s on a Sunday afternoon and everyone was dancing and grooving to this song….I was told the Friends and Ms cleaves would hang out there as well although I never saw them …,a 70’s Afro bell bottom groove I’ll remember forever!
The great Jessica Cleaves! Channeling her inner Josephine Baker in this performance.Continue to rest in musical greatness🌺🙏🏼🌺
I was born in 76. Now 48 years old. This was popular when my mom and dad were coming along. I'm nowhere near their age but I love listening to the oldies because that's what I grew up hearing! My mom has now been gone almost 10 years. Miss you and us listening and singing!
I was born in 74 and growing up my parents played these records too
2024 and this is music we all need to hear once again
This is Music, that we all miss.
Music had changed for the worse. I always loved this song. Grew up on this music

I can’t mow the lawn lois the friends of distinction are out there grazing in the grass
Yall lame this been out 60 years now
If they played this song today on a teen pop station, it would be a hit once more. Once I play this song for anyone, it stays with them permanently.
Truth Indeed
This was the very first album I ever bought just for myself. I was only 13. I would go on to get every album they made. What I wouldn’t give to have to have all my old albums now. It’s hard to believe this group only lasted five years. By 1974 the ride was pretty much over. But what a ride.
Well said.
I can play this over and over and it's just beautiful every time.
Some of the best music ever (50's, 60's, 70's)! Glad you appreciate it....peace to you and yours!
Everything was so beautiful you can feel it.
Keep it going...your never to old I'm 73 😁
❤
Man they killed it 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The 50s, 60s, and 70s and some 80s songs were the best. You could understand the words and could sing along.
Now it's acceptable to ware pajamas everywhere. DISGUSTING😣😫😱
This song and "Do The Tighten Up" were my absolute favorites!

Music
To think, a couple months after this footage was shot, American audiences would no longer be given live episodes of THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW.😢
Even new technical aspects of the live format crept into the performances. Going into 1970, many great singles utilized multi-track recording methods. More and more, artists would still sing live, but with the background track instead of Ray Bloch and his great orchestra playing.
Song has always been fire.
Omg !! I Born 1971 😂😂Love This Damn Music 🎵 😁😁❤️❤️❤️🫶🏽Can You Dig It Baby!! Real Bands And Music!! !
Why couldn’t I been born in this time, I would’ve had so much fun! The music, the styles, the art….a wonderous time because of us people’s❤

Always really liked this song.
Jim Gordon. Played with a multitude of artist on many hits. He killed his mother in 1984. This song recorded in 1969.
