- Well I finally finished this video which I have made footage for the past year on about 3 different ships. I really hope you all enjoy this one showing what we eat while at sea.
That food looks great and from an ex-military man I agree that food plays a huge role in the morale of the crew.
So true. Thank you for your service!!
I was in the navy for 20 years. I always found it amazing how well we ate at sea. Coming back from 3 month the cooks would start to get creative.
It is amazing how creative some cooks can be. Thank you for your service.
Looks amazing..very nice seeing all the fantastic foods❤❤❤❤. Thank you Jeff
Thank you so much for your time😎🌊🚢⚓️
My brother is a captain of a supply ship for the oil industry. He once joked that he could tell when his chef wanted off the ship to visit family, he would make my brother's favorite meal.
I worked a couple Hornbeck boats years ago
The food looks good. I look forward to watching past videos. Thanks
Awesome, and thank you😎🚢🌊⚓️
presentation makes up such a large part of the meal - everything looks great
Thanks! It's not a fancy restaurant but it tastes good.😎
Thanks Jeff Onboard food looks amazing 🤩 A great was of keeping the crew happy with full tummies 😋 Take care on the high-seas🏴 🌊
Yes, it keeps everyone happy, and thank you so much for watching and taking the time to come it is much appreciated, cheers.😎🌊🚢⚓️
There's the man! Glad to see you, Jeff! You're a blessing to UA-cam and your viewers.
I don't know about that, but thank you for the comment. 🤣🤣
The seafood looked Heavenly! I really found this interesting, the food looks much better than I imagined. Thanks, Jeff!
Some ships are better than others but the ship I'm on now the food is not bad
Very nice looking food. Nice, well done video. I have always been fascinated by the sea service and this video was spot on! Thank you much for sharing, and even more, thank you for what you do for the world of commerce!
Well, thank you so much for watching, and I really appreciate the time you took to make a comment as well it is much appreciated. 😎🚢🌊⚓️
Chief Makoi has some great ship food videos too. Great video Jeff.
Yes, I have seen many of his vids before.
Thanks Jeff. Now I'm starving. Y'all get fed very well!
It really depends on the cooks.....
I served aboard an amphibious assault ship when I was in the Navy back in the eighties. If you liked Spam, sliders, beefy mac, hot dogs, powdered milk, powdered eggs, canned fruit and vegetables, and bug juice, I guess you could say we ate ok. 🤣 They tried to give us fresh food when they could, however, that got burned through pretty quickly ! I will admit that we had a bake shop that turned out pretty good bread, cakes, and pies.
I'm thankful for any food we get
One of the best videos that you have done. I for one would like to see more of what you are working on and doing.
Glad you enjoyed it....
Wow ,fantastic looking food . You guys are well fed. Thanks for sharing Jeff.👍
Thank you for your time, Lukes. Always appreciated😎🚢🌊⚓️
Much respect to you sir for working on one of those big big big big ships period I think it takes a lot of bravery encouraged to work on one of those so my hat is off to you. And thank you for the video very interesting
Well I'm so glad you're here and I appreciate you taking time also to make a comment and thank you so much for watching the videos.😎🌊🚢⚓️
Wow, I really enjoyed this video! Sounds like y’all are well fed!
Yes many people notice that there is a lot of fights but that's just because I choose it there are many options every day
Keep up the great videos, Jeff. Always look forward to a glimpse of life at sea!
I really appreciate the support.
Looks like a great deal aboard a working vessel! ❤
Yes it is a true blessing to receive free food while you are working
Nice transition to the holiday food!
Hey brother... Thanks for dropping by. Yes, they had great food for the holiday. If you are at sea now, fair winds and be safe. I was just on your channel 2 days ago.😎🌊🚢⚓️
I have been to Europe and back . The best experience I have ever had. I also worked on ship building for Bethlehem Steel in Brooklyn NY. My hats off to the people that work on ships … It’s a very dangerous job. Bliss you all and stay safe……
Thank you so much John and bless you too
Hey Jeff, happy new year. I know we are already a month into the new year, but this is the first video I watched for the new year. Great video as always.
Hey thank you so much and I hope you have a great year as well let's hope this will be a better year... thank you for watching and taking time to come and I really appreciate it. Hope to see you again soon
The guys putting out that food are trying. Kudos to them!
Yes, they do good
Awesome spread. Thanks Jeff
Glad you enjoyed it! 😎🌊🚢⚓️
Worked for a ship chandler back in the 90’s. We supplied everything. Many day while waiting to unload I’d get offered to eat by the chief cook. Food was excellent on American ships
I am just thankful for it being included in the job. These days that is a real blessing.😎🚢🌊⚓️
I was an engineer officer in the British Merchant fleet in 1970/80. Fresh milk on deep sea passages was nonexistent it was evaporated milk watered down. Eggs were tainted with fridge storage. Breakfast cereal came with weevils and the soup spoon was used for killing cockroaches as they crossed the dining table. I lost weight on an 8 week trip down the west African coast. In the mid seventies I went with a large Canadian company. Where the food improved but much was dependent on the chief steward. Some ships were really good others left a bit to be desired. I have had rancid butter served, bread rolls that you could have used as cannonballs. However a bad chief steward could be at the mercy of the engineering department, where revenge could be quietly applied or not so quietly . Tankers were very useful where the C/ stewards cabin was at main deck level . A mere whisper of steam leaking into the main deck steam line meant he lived with constant and irregular cracking and banging.
Thank you for taking time to comment, and things really have changed for the better in some ways.
Hey Jeff. Thank you so much.
Always my friend
Very interesting Jeff, food looks very nice ! 🇬🇧🇺🇸🍺👍
As long as there are ok cooks, it is not bad. 🇺🇲😎🇬🇧
I worked at sea a few years (ships medic), and worked closely with the food crew. I miss those days a lot.
What type of ships?
Ur a great presenter; and a great voice for this; thanks for posting these interesting topics for us land people
I appreciate that, thank you for watching.😎🚢🌊⚓️
Great looking food! Thanks for the video.
Well, most importantly, thank you for taking the time to watch it and make a comment it is much appreciated, and have a great weekend.
New subscriber to your channel. That food looks good. Beautiful Christmas tree!🌲. That looks like a very well organized kitchen.👌👍
Thank you so much for subscribing and for watching! Hope to see ya again soon, Julia.😎🌊🚢⚓️
Hi Jeff, great video! I am training in San Diego, just came here last Sunday, our training in Norfolk was interrupted to send us here; we'll know by this Friday whether we're going back to Norfolk or will be assigned to a ship. I am excited to just get on the ship. I hope one day we'll get together and make a video and tell my long journey getting with MSC. It took 11 months from the time I applied with the Coast Guard for my credentials till I got to NEO. Thank You for all your videos!
Yes just stay in touch on WhatsApp and we can get together sometime and make some kind of video about that it would probably help a lot of people
Thanks a lot that was quite informative. I love rice too it's very versatile and very healthy.
I'm a riceaholic, lol
This was great to see and learn.
That is great looking food.
It is pretty good, and we get a variety of things every day. I showed rice more than once because I eat it a lot.
Hi Jeff Greetings from Costa Rica, all the information is very interesting and it depends on the company, not all of them provide good food to the crew, but from what I see, the company where you work provides good food.
Yes, very true. Thank you so much for the input😎🚢🌊⚓️
G'day Jeff, most interesting, Man those Lobster Tails looked tasty! Armadale West Aust.
Wow, that's great looking food. It's the same on offshore platforms as well. Generally speaking, it's the same for any industry where workers have to be sequestered away for days at a time away from family. I have several friends that fly for FEDEX and the meals are provided on the plane for them to fix when they get hungry, although, not to the exquisite extent of this.
Great video!
I appreciate you watching and your feedback!😎🚢🌊⚓️
great video, showing more of the food side of your videos will bring in other subscribers
Thank you, I appreciate your feedback and will try to film more food in future videos.
Nice video. The day goes by a lot better when there’s good food.
Very true. Nothing worse than working hard only to find that the food is terrible
Great video and Great Food.
Thank you so much😎🌊🚢⚓️
Jeff - great vid! Music had me tapping my feet. Have a great weekend!
You too, Robert. Thank you😎🚢🌊⚓️
YES! You know I been waiting for this video! Haha ship food looks so much fresher than anything I get out of a truck stop. You definitely won’t go hungry. Thanks for the video, and hope you’re doing good!! You working? Or back in Brazil?
I'm on the ship now and I just got back on board I was walking around because we are in Veracruz, Mexico🇲🇽
Love your videos glad I found your channel.
I'm so glad you did, too. Thank you very much for your time. 😎🚢🌊⚓️
Everything looks delicious. Lots of rice!🇺🇸
There are plenty of other options like potatoes I just like rice
Excellent I was on the Nimitz the food was great thumbs up from Gettysburg Penna.
Hey Alex...I grew up in Baltimore. I went to PA all the time
Work Hard! Eat Awesome Food! Relax! Great Video. ✔️
Obviously in a video I can't show everything but a lot of meals I just eat a big salad
As someone who works from home, I sometimes wish for a career change and the idea of working on a ship intrigues me, hehe. Free food sounds good!
Yes I am thankful to have meals included with my job that is just like getting extra pay honestly with the prices of food nowadays
Thanks Jeff ! a Great Update ( ex Ships cook ) Kent U.K 😊
Yes Adrian as you know food on a ship makes the morale good or bad
Thanks for taking the time to post this video........... !
Thank you for your time to watch it, Jerry. I appreciate your support on the channel.😎🚢🌊⚓️
Lobster Christmas dinner!!😃😃😃
Was tasty😎🌊🚢⚓️
This actually looks pretty good.
looks like the Alaskan Snow Crab legs got upgraded to King Crab legs instead. Nice!
The holiday meals were so good😎🌊🚢⚓️
Some of the plates my dog might like 👍
Ok, I am thankful no matter what is served. Thank God I have something to eat, and it is free in a works where food prices are insane. It is a blessing.
I'll give a Michelin 2 star. Great food and great presentation.
Thank you so much for the review!😎🤣
Wow, you guys ear a lot of rice!
I showed many different types of food and there are other options I just eat rice because it's what I personally like. It is not in any way because that's all they have it's just my preference
Thanks for that Jeff. It appears that cargo ships are much like Boeing and Airbus, all ships and workers from Captains to Maintenance all learn from a common operational syllabus to operate and maintain common equipment from nose to tail in a marine environment. An Airline pilot friend of mine has a son who joined the Merchant Marine after some serious time at school. Now he's on board some vessels servicing the oil industry and I think he is on 6 months and off the same if I recall correctly. I would rather watch your real person stories on board that people never see than anything programmed on the corrupted TV that I don't watch anymore and my attitude seems to be picking up steam. Appreciate your time, thanks again!
Well I really appreciate people like you supporting the channel and I appreciate you taking time to make a comment as well and I try to make videos just showing what it's really like out here. Thank you so much😎🚢🌊⚓️
Looks hearty and all made with tender, nautical care!
Well said mrpeel, 😎🌊🚢⚓️
Looks pretty good.
They do a good job😎🚢🌊⚓️
Boy, I love your intro.
Really? I appreciate it...try to do a new one each year. I will do a new one in 2025...any ideas??
Look's decent , hope all is going good for you Sir.
I'm getting there. Long hot days
❤❤❤❤looks awesome 😊😊😊save money too.
I wonder if Cargo ships have an exercise area/room?
A couple videos ago I showed the one on this ship and I have showed the exercise room on more than one ship on my channel
G'day Jeff, Those meals look better than the business class meals that are served to myself and the FO. I picked the wrong career ! 😂 Be safe cheers John.
What do you fly John? I am a huge aviation nut
Thank you for this! They feed you a lot of rice. No pasta?
Yes there is pasta all the time and there are always potatoes in fact I had pasta this evening for dinner but I just like rice
I crossed the Atlantic as a passenger a few years ago on an conro ship. The food looked nothing like yours it was so bad I went ashore at Halifax NS and bought my own food for the rest of the trip to Baltimore. Luckily here was an unused pantry where I did the cooking myself. The Filipino deck crew said they darent complain about food or conditions or their contracts would be at risk.
That sounds terrible... you need food when working so hard. I appreciate the comment😎🚢🌊⚓️
Thankyou for sharing Jeff. Delicious looking food!
Yes, I can't complain. Thank you for watching
Good food equals morale.
Always 😎🌊🚢⚓️
I gotta say the orange shirt and black toque gives a vibe...
Huh
Fabulous video my friend..
👍
Hey buddy.... always gr8 2cya...Have an awesome weekend.😎
I know rice is easy to prepare and keep, uncooked, in storage, but, why is rice dominate in the recipes? Don't get me wrong, I really like rice, but, I also really like potatoes, baked, mashed, fried, whatever, take your pick, skin on, or peeled, doesn't matter. My mother, at a VERY early age for me, taught my to slice a fresh, raw, Russet in thin slices and a sprinkle of salt and I have a quick, tasty, snack bite. A big baked Russet, by itself, can be a meal! Compounded Roasted Garlic and Butter, sour cream, onions. Topped off with Crab, Lobster, Shrimp, Bacon bits, chives, the choices are yours. That is a dinner meal for me. It's more work than rice, but, they each should have their own place on the menu. Again, politely, why the rice and not the potatoes?
Like I was showing there are always a couple different options for entrees and a soup every day there are rice potatoes vegetables I just show a lot of rice probably because that's what I prefer to order it's not that that's the only option there are several options
Yummy! The food and the variety, really good. They say, "an Army marches on its stomach".
Good food always lifts the spirits. Always love your posts, Jeff.
I really appreciate it 😎
Cool mate
Thank you for watching Rodney always
Great video, keep up the good work.
If you are open to video suggestions, I would like to see a video about the tools you use. Do you bring any personal tools onboard? Are there any unusual tools that are unique to marine work?
I think you might want to call the National Maritime Center. Just searched them on Google and I believe it will be the first option that pops up and their phone number is right there on the website. I have called them many times and it is a very easy thing
What about alcoholized beverages ?
I guess they are forbidden.
How many people in the crew ?
Otherwise, I think the food looks fantastic, and I'm happy you have access to fresh fruits.
Thanks for watching, and yes forbidden
Nice Video, Jeff!
Thank you so much for your time😎🚢🌊⚓️
Great content - thanks for the education!
I am glad you enjoyed it, thank you for watching!😎🚢🌊⚓️
Memories
Hopefully good ones😎🌊🚢⚓️
Dang, I thought we ate alot of rice here in the south...
I love rice. There are potatoes in other things as well but I just choose rice that's my choice
first time I've seen your video, how many people on ship? -- food looks really good
Normally, around 20, and if there are a couple training Cadets there might be a couple extra
I have been wondering what kinds of food they serve onboard. You must have read my mind.
Lol. I looked into my crystal ball🤣
Great video.I suddenly remember I gotta eat.
Go go, lol. 🤣
Aye, proper :)
Argh...lol
Better than the USN... at least when I served.
I'm sure in the USN it's harder because larger crew sizes. Here just cooking for 20-22
Hey Jeff, I have what might be a stupid question and maybe you have answered in other videos. But when you say there is a scheduled time for meals, how/ when is the ship clock updated when traveling east/west or west/east? Does that affect the meal schedules? Or do you end up eating an hour earlier or later? Or are the adjustments only done once per day like overnight to make things easier? Thanks!
It is a great question and sometimes because of clock changes we might eat a little bit earlier but sometimes they just do it at night which doesn't affect anything
I am a human who thoroughly enjoys the thought of cargo
How about ethnic foods, as Crew men are in large numbers from Asia snd other regions?
Yes they make some different things that are liked by different ethnicities also
I suspect this is only on U.S. registered vessels with mostly U.S. crews. It would be interesting to know what other nations' crews get.
I have seen some videos from foreign ships and there are videos on UA-cam about that as well
OMD lol u eat like kings 😊 thank u for a interesting video x
Thank you so much for watching it is always appreciated
i thought this was golden corral.food looked great.
Lol, the price is better here...😎🚢🌊⚓️🤣🤣
Does the captain of the ship go over the menus before the ship disembarks port or is it all based on the kitchen staff making the menus up.
I think technically it is the chief Stewart's job but I think on some ships the captain definitely makes the suggestions
Wow... LOTS of rice.
Not because it is the only option. It is what I like
On the USS Midway, we had steak and lobster for dinner on Sunday. I could always find some sailor to trade my steak for his lobster.
In the south, We call it Breakfast, Dinner and supper.
Wow, very interesting. Thank you for sharing. I never knew that. 😎🚢🌊⚓️
Just asking but when you area cook on board do you work seven days per week? Is a typical day 12 hours? What should your rotation on and off ship? Is it a controlled stress environment, ie you work towards same serving time prep per meal per day?
I'm not the cook.i work engine dept. Yes, 7 days a week out here. I do 11 hours a day
Nice video Jeff enjoy the food by the time you are back in USA you probably won't😛 be able to afford food
I know. Things are not looking good. I try to think positive, but it is hard sometimes.
Enjoy all your videos Jeff hope you are doing well can you make a plate and go back to your room just asking
Technically yes but they prefer you eat in the mess hall because a lot of people take place to their room and don't return it and then there is a shortage and the captain has to tell everybody to bring them back.
What is horeradish that is served with beef, is it anything like horseradish?
Never tried it. Doesn't sound too good, lol.
Didn't expect the food being that good on a ship. But where's the beer...?😂🍺
It is all at your house staying cold, haha🤣🤣🍻🍻🇩🇪
