I currently shoot a Walther GSP Expert and I my backup is a Smith & Wesson M41. I’m not sure if the Volquartsen could match either of the two pistols above. I do agree that it is a beautiful piece.
Very helpful video. TY! Black Mamba, Scorpion, adding bolts and kits, Volquartsen, TandemKross, etc...??? What do you think the best way to go for a competition level pistol? Looking for accuracy above all else. Build, buy whole pistol? I've heard people put together Volquartsen Uppers with TendemKross lowers. I want to make a splash with my next .22lr pistol.
I wanted their "old" scorpion upper that had nothing milled on it at all (not even front sight) except for a red dot rear... they recommended waiting for this guy to come out but man its nothing even close to the same lol
That’s the pistol I have LLV Competition. No irons, just a factory Vortex Venom red dot. Has a compensator on the front as well. Great pistol. Haven’t honestly seen anyone else with one!
I have a Black Mamba and just received two scorpions for Christmas (exactly the same). I'm going to sell one I guess and get a S&W model 41 but I sure hate to sell the scorpion even if it is a twin...
I've been a fan of Volquartsen's stuff since day one, but would love to see what that pistol would do off a bench with a scope aboard. Why? I have an old MkII 22/45 Competition Target (6 7/8" slab-side) that shoots lights out. 100 yard groups are under an inch with Eley Club, and even bulk ammo shoots half inch or better at 25...one of the least ammo-sensitive rimfires I've ever shot. Like to know if it would be worth it to get a Scorpion X upper.
That slabside mkii is the gun that made me love ruger mk series. I bought and built a mk iv target with volquartsen competition kit and he still wouldn't trade with me. I used to take spent .22 brass and shoot them off branches with that slabside at 25 yards when I was 12 years old
22 Plinkster, I am almost as tall as you. I wear XL gloves. How well does the Scorpion fit your hand, and does your finger wrap too far around the trigger? Just curious because the Volquartsen trigger looks kinda far back for short fingers. 🤔
As the one arm guy in the house I always wonder if guys like you can hit anything offhand like the rules call for in Bullseye and Olympic shooting. As Brian Zens says "It's a Handgun not a Handsgun."
Your comment of holding dead on at 100 yards. I understand the bullet starts to drop as soon as it leaves the barrel so there has to be some drop at 100 yards. What is the actual drop?
Great catch. My 16" rifle has about 6" of drop between 50 and 100 yds. I'd think more than that for a pistol. But I understand what Plinkster is talking about with the higher mountings on a red dot pistol. . Interestingly enough, if I set my pistol up for 15 yards, with a high red dot mount, my point of impact actually went up considerably at 25 and even higher at 50 yds. I put a much lower red dot mount on and took off the picatinny rail, and my point of impact shooting off a rest was very similar at the three distances.
ive always wondered what makes a gun "accurate" short of the actual barrel and the ammo itself? the chamber and the barrel are the only things the round ever touches so how would anything behind that affect accuracy? unless we're talking how accurate are YOU with the gun vs how accurate actually IS the gun. then i could see where a good trigger would affect "accuracy".

Shooting targets up close, dead on, and the ability to hit same size target further out, holding dead on, has only to do with the ballistic rise and fall curve.
why dont any of the boutique makers like Volquartsen make high cap mags, most of if not all of the "big" manufactures are at 16 or 20 shot mags for the .22RF. i would venture to say that to a good % of potential buyers that might just be what pushes the sale one way or the other.

@@j.shorter4716 i like higher cap mags for shooting steal. Most of us already have ruger standard pistols. I have 2. Its hard to justify the purchase of another that still only holds 9 rounds. The 22lr offerings that are plastic and pot metal that hold a reasonable amount of ammo don't interest me because they have slide cracking problems and dont seem to be built in a way that will make them just as reliable in 60 years as they are new like the old ruger has proven. My rugers were made in the 1960,s and still run as good as new after an astronomical amount of shooting.
