We need to build more handicapped accessible rail crossings for disabled trucks.

When we see a truck or car on the tracks and impact is imminent, we do not put the train into emergency . Full service brake application is applied and what happens happens.

People that take trains for jokes should look at this video. The way this train just shredded the semi as if it was construction paper should prove enough that trains aren't to be f*cked with

@jayasmrmore3687 That would depend on the speed of the train and what type of cargo the truck is hauling. I get where you're coming from, but it's possible they do feel something

Trucks can derail trains, even the big cargo ones. Imagine if a big semi-truck hit the train on the side. The train would get knocked off the rails.

Disabled truck? Ummm…no. The train hit a truck that got stuck on the crossing by an IDIOT DRIVER who ignored multiple “no trucks allowed” and “low ground clearance” signs posted all around this crossing. I have many railroad friends and I have NO use for morons like this. That could’ve derailed the train and possibly killed the crew. The punishment for doing stupid crap like this should be way more severe than it is. He’ll be getting a bill for that destroyed $300,000 crossing signal too.

I've driven across that intersection many times. Thing is there's a light right in front of the tracks, and then there's a space between the tracks and the intersection where there's another light. I drive over the tracks so my car is between the tracks and the intersection/light. I think this truck was too long to clear it. The whole village is tiny, extremely dense, and really must suck for truck drivers.

I know this spot well. As far back as I can remember, this pavement around this crossing has always been torn up, potholed and broken. The tracks are raised, and the pavement dips down on both sides trapping water and ice, leading to rapid dilapidation of the pavement. The crossing is immediately to a an intersection with a busy local highway (strode) and the sightlines of the highway, tracks and intersection and crossing are all horrendous. Back in the mid 60's my mom had me with her in her gargantuan station wagon, on the way to see her friend Christine in Haverstraw, and the crossing was lying in wait for us... There were potholes on both sides of the rail, and when the older rear tires hit the rail, the effect was like a jackhammer causing an instant blowout, and scaring the crap out of 6 year old me. Lucky my mom could drive like Mario Andretti, and held it together. Stupidly enough, I did the same thing years later, and damaged the sidewall of one of the rear tires on my car, costing me a new tire. Even now, if you google map to the right spot and drop to street level, you can easily see just how deteriorated the pavement here is with patches on top of patches on top of patches. This intersection never stays properly paved for more than a few years, before it start eating cars, tires trucks, and tragically, busses. IMO, this has to be an old indian burial ground.
