Quick Tip : Checking Your Autoclave with Autoclave Tape

If the HEPA filter is your operations lungs, then your autoclave would be the heart. It's important to keep that heart functioning properly, and even to do regular testing to make sure that it's performing optimally. This is why we use autoclave tape now on the regular to make sure that we are achieving sterility in all of our agar, liquid culture, and spawn batches. You wouldn't let your heart fail, so don't let the autoclave fail your op! Everything we do in culture work is magnified in importance as it affects every other step down the line. Besides, who likes do work improperly only to have to do it again, or worse yet to lose money in a bunch of contaminated fruiting blocks because you had some unknown hitchhikers!

When I was researching what exactly is the reason you CaNt sTeRiLiZe with an instant pot I found a lot of silly arguments
One of the arguments I found was that real pressure cookers and canner need to be calibrated yearly or something to make sure they are in spec and the instant pot can't be calibrated so it can't be trusted. Period. Now these were food canners talking, but the point I'm making is this:

Autoclave tape just indicates heat, not an indication of the correct temperature and pressure and time needed for sterility. You need to use a sterility indicator strip.

In an autoclave certain heats are only achieved under certain pressures. So it kinda goes either way to a point.
