Your videos on the MRVA helped me save my CR-V from the scrapyard. (You guided me through a $250 DIY rebuild when the cost of a professional was not an option.) Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and expertise!
Very useful video. I'm not doing a rebuild just yet, just trying to diagnose a weird issue (not driving in R or 1st, but driving in N?!), and these videos provide a better view into how everything fits together than a diagram in the manual.
I'm watching this to try to troubleshoot a grinding transmission in my head haha It grinds in neutral and all gears, but stops when in reverse. Sounds like a loose screw tapping something as it rotates.
Not something I have ever heard one of these do. I did find someone who had a noise somewhat similar to this, I think. It ended up being a worn upper right engine mount. Don't know why that would cause a noise like that but see if it is bad. Wish I could be of more help.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission Yeah I've yet to figure out how going into reverse disconnects a rotating assembly that is otherwise always spinning. I appreciate your response, I'll take a peak at the mounts but I'm pretty sure its a metal on metal noise sadly.
Hello sir, thanks for all your videos. I believe the title of this video is wrong.... I believe it should be Honda MRVA Rebuild instead of MVRA. Thanks from Brazil.
I have recently been working on my daughters first car as her bf decided to burn the transmission out..the a 96 honda civic with the cvt.getting replacement gear is next to impossibble, am thinking about a break down and rebuild of her old trans .these videos have been interesting . 1 question is have you rebuilt a mid 90s cvt?
They can. Sonnax and Transgo both sell valve body kits for Honda's. They come with their own instructions, they will not be in the rebuild kit. I personally don't put them in this model. I only put in the Sonnax end plugs. I also put a new radiator and add auxilliary cooler.

Sounds like you have a set of clutches welded together causing it to bind in reverse and low and not move, yet move in neutral.
Thank you! This seems the most likely explanation. It drives ok-ish in 2nd, would that be the clutch that's welded? Any way to break it free?
Probably. No, it's time for a rebuild.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission OK. Thanks again. Really sets my mind at ease to have a diagnosis.
The best mechanic I'm so froud of you sir❤
Thanks for watching.

Very good, hope you are as well.
Can the valve plates be drilled out like I’ve seen on another Honda build? If so, are instructions included in all rebuild kits? Thanks. I have mrma .
