Great review. I have a pair of GS Ottawa in Honey Glazed Shell Cordovan. I totally agree on the quality aspect. They are amazing boots - top notch quality, fit & finish is unmatched. And they are stunning! Who cares where they are made, as long as the materials are all top quality - which they are.

Mine took about a year (12 to 14 wears) to be comfortable, but now they feel great.

Not sure if you know, but Alden kudu is actually cowhide, and kudu is just used as a marketing term. I think everyone else ( Grant Stone, parkhurst, viberg etc ) uses the real antelope kudu. With kudu becoming a lot more popular now, Alden should clarify this in their write ups.

@@chalkboardshoes I don’t have any Parkhurst boots (yet 😉) but I do have Jungle ‘Roo Diesels, Higgins Mill in Loden suede (along with HM in natural AND brown CXL, love the fit), and a pair of Meermin Chelsea’s in caper green kudu. I’m a 9E in all my AE’s and like you go down a half size to 8.5E in all my Grant Stones. Good stuff!

I just ordered a pair for myself this morning. Love the way the color on this boot appears to darken/lighten depending on the lighting. I also love the way they looked with the whiskey laces, may have to give those a try on mine. Thanks for a great review and helping me to decide that i needed these as my next pair!

Thanks for the video! Although I believe the hole is used for ease of box manipulation. The hole by itself, without moving air circulation or stagnant air, won't necessarily prevent mold/mildew buildup.

Great review! I bought these for my birthday last year, Saint Patrick’s Day. Figured the green was appropriate. They are gorgeous in person, really pair well with dark denim, and the natural welt contrast so perfectly. I agree, they need breaking in, and we’re the least comfortable GS boot for me out of the box, but are now just as comfortable as anything other than the brass boot with the wedge sole which is the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever owned. Now that you mention it, the Alden 379x (Munson/military) is probably my favorite last of all time, but LEO is a close second along with Carminas Oscar and Inca lasts. Alden does excel there. GS is slowly taking over my collection. I’m shedding all of my AE and some of my Alden to make room for more. Cheers!

Dude, this pair of boots is beautiful, that green is lighter than pics on their site tho.
After finishing your video, man, what a review, it's honest, logical, explained in detail. And apparently you have a lot of experience with boots, great content.
And I know you said you wanted this kudu leather, but I think you really should have tried that "Diesel Boot Jungle Kangaroo", it's olive, Kangaroo leather is softer and lighter. And that boot has plain toe

My GS Kangaroo Kangaroo Diesel arrived last week. I love the dark green and the smooth leather. My next order would probably be the Forest Kudu Captoe and the Natural Kangaroo Ottawa. (I already have the Natural Minerva Edward.)

This is a fantastic review! I have the Higgins Mill and a Grant Stone Plain Toe Blucher on the Leo last. I agree with everything you touch on. It feels like the more I commit to wearing my Grant Stones, the better they will get. Not in my collection yet is an Alden pair, but definitely on my radar. 😃

The review is exactly what I needed. Thank you. Parkhurst has been getting a lot of good reviews lately so I decided to compare their Kudu with Grant Stone's. I waited too long and their Spruce Kudu for my size ran out so I got their Cumulus (blue) instead. I plan to order GS Forest Kudu Captoe soon. Parkhurst's Kudu Allen with lug soles seems heavy. (Lower center of gravity is not bad. You won't top over so easily.) My GS Jungle Kangaroo Diesel feels lighter. Perhaps the micostud soles are lighter than Parkhurst's lug sole but I think it has more to do with the thicker and heavier Kudu. I will find that out when I ordered the GS Spruce Kudu. I also plan to order GS Kangaroo Ottawa with lug soles. I should be able to figure which component contributes to the weight.
As for the style, I like the GS Edward's plain, relatively dressier, style with smaller and more eyelets/hooks. However, getting a variety such as the captoe is fine with me. (I think it's just like Edward, except for the toe.) I wish there are more styles in leather soles.
BTW I too love green/olive boots. I'm always on the look out for them. I notice your have a video on the topic. Gonna watch it next.

@@chalkboardshoes The Edward Natural Minerva. I got them a couple of months ago. Nice. They need some breaking in.
The quality of GS is definitely better than Parkhurst.

    • @bouncingBrain
      @bouncingBrain Рік тому

@@chalkboardshoes I don't feel that their leather soles are hard. Of course, the soles and the rest of the boots (Minerva) need some breaking it. They feel lighter than the rubber soles. Especially the lug soles, they were clunky and noisy running up and down the stairs. (Currently I only have the Parkhurst lug soles but it will change.) They still serve the purpose in certain situations. I prefer leather soles in general. I have a pair of AE loafers that have rubber studs embedded in the the leather -- best of both worlds.

Really appreciate your thorough review and all the pictures and editing. Honestly 10/10 your passion for the footwear really shines through. Did you see that Grant Stone has the Diesel and Edward, plain toe, on sale in Loden suede? I’ve been on the fence on those for so long. Just didn’t know how well I could wear them with my wardrobe. Some pictures of the Loden look like a nice olive. Other times it seems more gray.
I’ve got a couple of Grant Stone Ottawa boots and am pretty happy so far. Hoping to add a Diesel when the right upper leather/sole combo catches my eye.
