Snakes are predators and it is always amazing to observe them hunting. Venomous species kill their prey with venom. Watch the venomous Eastern copperhead (Agkistrodon contortrix) move in the lush forest of the Florida Panhandle. It finds a great spot to wait for prey under a thick bush. The pit viper is successful after some time! A skink comes right into the strike zone! The snake injects venom into the lizard with its fangs and eats it whole. - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
Such an attractive snake! The way it squirmed around to get in the perfect position reminded me of my dog turning in circles to get comfy on her bed. Mr. Copperhead did the same moves. Skink didn’t see him for sure! Thanks for a wild snake video. So many seem staged. 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦

Always loved copperhead’s they were the first species of venomous snake I worked with and bred successfully. They’ll always have a special place in my heart and they truly are a stunning species that’s gotten such a bad name. So many people in my area kill these snakes and mainly kill harmless water snakes thinking they are copperhead’s. That’s why I always try and educate as many people that are willing to learn about these snakes and how important they are to our ecosystem. Most copperhead bites are not fatal anyways, generally speaking, the Americas don't, on the whole, have particularly deadly snakes like those found in Asia, Africa and Australia.

Phenomenal video yet again! The camouflage of this species is insane. They blend in so well, surprised you were able to find one, haha! We love your filming style and cant believe you were able to film a wild Southern Copperhead feeding on a plestidon skink! Keep it up!

Not only for the Copperhead, but for you guys too.... patience is the virtue. As long as the snake has to wait for its prey, you people have to wait longer for the right shot at the right moment.

We are happy that you love the footage and the soundscape! Patience is very important yes. When it comes to filming snake feeding, it is either very fast or super slow in our experience. This was the first case, it was difficult to film the whole process from different angles in such a short time! Recently we were filming a Grass snake eating an European toad and it took 4 hours! That was a lot about patience haha :D

Stunning video of copperhead behaviour. The crypsis of this particular species is a great example of evolutionary adaptation to a particular environment. Is the venom of the copperhead targeted at skinks?
Thank you very much! 🙏We were amazed how well this species blends in its environment. Copperheads are generalists, they hunt small rodents and other small vertebrates, even some invertebrates (cicadas).

A quick trip to Georgia though and you'll be up to your eyeballs in them.

How far did the skink make it after it was bitten?
Not far away, surprisingly! Maybe 30 cm, it was not running because of the shock we think.

We checked their range on the map, they are not that far away, but also not that close!
@@LivingZoology we have the Massassauga around us up here. Use to have Timbers in southern Ontario but I believe the last sighting was in 44. You do hear the odd Copperhead sighting up here but very very unlikely.

When a snake bites its prey, how does it recognize whether the bite was lethal or not? otherwise will lose the prey.
Some snakes hold their prey until it dies. Some just bite and hope that the venom did its job.
What a beautiful looking snake, but then i think most of them are really. Interesting to see in it's own healthy habitat.
