Hey Chuck. Wanted to let you know I bought probably 5-600 of the little vials for putting swarm commander in. I use cooking twine as candle wicks don’t work well. Anyway I wanted to tell you that if you make sure the vials are placed in the back upright between a couple frames they last a lot longer. Throwing them in they tend to leak out faster.
Also. Have learned you really don’t need any of it. You need to wipe a mixture of melted propolis and wax inside the hive and on the entrance or entrances.
I also use my own design box that holds ten frames and is about 4-5” deeper. I started putting boxes out on the 5th of March and have caught seven swarms. Have more in the traps but haven’t gotten out to get them That’s why I use what I use so most of the time they have 6-7 frames drawn out and she is laying. About a week to two weeks once they’re in. I just transfer right into deeps.
Thanks for the tip on the little containers. I still use them

Good stuff CHuck. Thanks for the clip on how the virgin was accepted. Probably no foragers in that box so they should do ok if she can make it back.

Sorry about the observation hive. Hope it makes it with that virgin. Good for all of us to know the size of the hole saw. It took me a while to find mine.

I picked up a 2-3/4" hole saw, which I believe is about 70mm equivalent. The jar lids do fit a bit tight. They're tapered slightly so I get about half the lid in before it starts getting too tight. It works, but 71mm, as you suggested, looks like it would work much better. Thanks for the great videos! Its fun to see what you're up to and I especially love learning with you when you experiment. I just started trying the centrifuge vials in my swarm traps this weekend. You're ahead of me a bit (I'm in northern Utah), so I'd love to see an update on what you thought of them as your swarm season wraps up.

I think I caught more swarms with them. They really work. perhaps the wick could be smaller to let less scent out. I ended up putting them in plastic baggies with a few holes to reduce the fragrance.

2 3/4" hole saw can be bought at ace or harbor freight. Cut head off a 4 inch bolt and cut a slot in the end of the bolt with a cut off wheel on 4 inch grinder 2 inches deep. Fold a 4 inch piece of 80 grit sandpaper put in slot and put rod in hand drill. The paper will center itself in the hole when u turn drill on and will evenly remove the small amount needed in about 1 minute.

Well, I enjoy the content, but really have no idea what you are talking about. I even had to look up what an apiary was because every time you said it I thought of a building like a conservatory. I love how you handle the bees so easily. I'd be fussing with everything, trying not to squish anything LOL. The best part is seeing you without the suit on dealing with bees all around. It now seems comical that people run from one bee. And you don't blast them with smoke all the time. It doesn't even seem like you're using the smoke much at all. I'm more curious as to what you're going to film in the CT without FSD LOL
