Pilots complained for 20 YEARS about near misses at DC airport, records show

- NBC 5 Investigates found at least 16 complaints in NASA’s Aviation Safety Reporting System dating back to 2006 where pilots referenced near misses with helicopters or other aircraft while approaching Reagan National. Bennett Haeberle reports.
A good friend of mine is an international pilot for American Airlines. He said once he retires, he will probably never fly again for all the near misses he's seen. Especially with the new unqaulified ones who have no business being in the cockpit.
It always takes a crash to finally get slow minded, tunnel vision military people to change. Operating military helicopters so close to the final approach of busy airport was an accident waiting to happen. A child could work this out. You can be sure the Military will disavow any findings unfavourable to them and no one will be held responsible.
I am not buying the BS that the helicopter saw the wrong plane. Someone put thst out there and everyone is regurgitating it without thinking for themselves.
I lived in the DC area and flew in and out of Reagan many times. I know how busy that airport can get, especially in the evenings when planes are landing their final flight for the day. I now live near Sky Harbor airport in Phoenix and from my back yard on South Mountain I can watch in the evenings the planes stacking and lining up for landing. It can be as many as 8 to 10 planes visible stacking up. You can clearly see them. Landing lights lit up like a string of xmas lights. This happens every evening, 365 days a year.
Helicopter pilots stationed at Ft. Belvior, who fly in the DC area, should be well aware of planes stacking up to land at Reagan every evening. It is not good enough for the helicopter acknowledging seeing a single plane. That pilot should be looking for and be aware of all planes lining up for landing. All of them in her vicinity.
There is something seriously wrong with these helicopter pilots that needs investigation. They made up this excuse to cover the military pilot so they can blame ATC. The helo pilot violated FAA altitude restrictions. Everything points to the helo pilot being at fault.
Another consequence of DEI.
Nobody mentioned the chick flying🤷🏿♂️
It's always the same...
That Pilot did hear warnings about the CRJ jet, and not only said he saw them, but actually REQUESTED "visual separation" to assune the responsibility for this accident. I could see the jet. It's hard to belive he couldn't. It's MASSIVE AND WAS DIRECTLY IN FEON OF HIS SIGHT LINE. In front .He was asked frantically twice if the CRJ was the one in sight, and responded by requesting visual separation!!
That was the thing I was hung up on when it occurred. 'How could he not see CRJ that was so close to him?' but after hearing a few pilots speak to this I suppose there was a chance that pilot(s) did not see him. All things are possible but I am wondering why more are not asking about chances of mechanical failure. Not looking to let anyone off the hook or blame a certain side, it is just in most cases like this it was at least brought into question, even if to be quickly dismissed.
Forty years would be more accurate! I was in aviation in 1980 in DC area and pilots had deep concerns with DCA airspace and how flawed it was. I recall many of them trying to find workarounds , depart south or west, just to avoid dealing iwth DCA as it was always congested and condensed. Granted I've been out of the loop for awhile but I heard the same complaints all the time from both rotary and fixed wing (copters/planes)pilots and the one that I kept thinking about in recent days was the amount of times I heard "It's just a matter of time" So that said, I feel as if DCA has been very lucky that disasters like this did not occur more frequently.
Also, the FAA was sued for rejecting thousands of qualified applicants because of their skin color and gender. Too male & too pale. So instead the FAA lowered the standards.
Only white males should get these jobs.
Too late....
Every politician needs to address the public and call for Trumps resignation over this.................,,
Your a fool
Why? Democrat DEI policies got those people killed. Why else are they not releasing the female pilot's name?
Never Democrat. Never again.
For a female helo pilot, your TDS is showing bigly.
Jan 20. Your boy before Trump hired the Army pilot and the people in the tower. Notice they haven't released the tower people's sex or color?
He must be removed from office. He is biggest disaster in history.
