And back in the day, when smoking cigarettes was more socially acceptable, the kids used the rear seat ashtrays and lighters for their intended purposed, lol!
Young person, 1991: "Aw, come ooonnnn! Do I have to drive this thing? It's a WAGON." Young person, 2021: "I am super excited to be driving this 1988 Mercury Colony Park wagon!" 😆😆
I drive a 1988 Mercury Grand Marquis GS with 331,000 miles, and it just runs and runs and remains rust-free. Mine has the original radio, which is fine with me, because I do not use any of the modern technology. I am left with classical music and talk-radio, since the popular music of my (1946-1962) era is long-gone -- especially the 1946 (and earlier) to 1955 part. But the car remains an utter dream to drive -- though I do not have that 1979 front clip shown in this video! When mine wears out, I hope to find another one! -- only, this time, I would prefer the LS edition, but without the leather seats, and with an analogue clock. I also would prefer the deluxe factory radio that had a cassette player (which mine does not, unfortunately, so I cannot listen to tapes of my 78 rpm records). I see a number of 1980s Grand Marquis cars on the road, and we usually wave to each other.😊
Love it! Another car of my childhood, loved riding in the rear jump seats. It's got a bench seat, column shift, build-in ashtray, faded woodgrain sides, turbine style wheels older style front end (looks more badass anyways) and that size coupled with the 1970s styling cues give it a real presence on the road today. Yeah, I'd drive it!
When I was a kid, we always were riding in the back of someone's station wagon! Not always with the jump seats up. Sometimes just on the flat part in back sliding around. It was FUN!
Thought I was the only one. Big Ford with all seats down and all metal. The driver would try to throw us around the car. We loved it and man did that suspension float. He would turn the wheel right and body would go left.
I can't believe that was an '88! The look, shape, and feel of it reminds me of my first car that I drove as a 16 year old...a 1976 Volare station wagon. A big boat v8 that wafted about. It was a good car to start on back in 1987.
Had one for 9 months back in the day. Didn't own it. My friend, who was in the Navy loaned it to me when he had a 10 month assignment to Japan. I grew to love that car. 10 months later, he returns to the U.S. and what do you think happened? The selfish S.O.B. actually wanted his car back! The nerve of some people! Great vehicle.
These were fantastic family cars. The 302 of this vintage was super smooth with tons of low end grunt. Fuel injection made performance of these near flawless. Most Colony Parks were optioned out to the max, with leather seating pretty common. It's no wonder Ford sold so many of these.
Being a child of age 8 years old back in the 1980's , there was nothing more scarier than sitting in the rear facing jump seat on the New Jersey Turnpike and praying that dump truck/ tractor trailers or any other car did not smash into our car at 50-70 or 85 mph...
Great video ! These boats were not meant for speed but easy cruising . These cars like my 81 Oldsmobile Delta 88 sedan were very popular back in the day .
Love the big ol girl, When you take the side shots just can not help but smile. I get a laugh out of the fading on the stick on wood paneling, it looks more like wood once it faded LOL. Going to get one of these and if I can not afford the gas I'll just put my gear in the back and camp out in the yard.
Thats a great car my grandfather had one. A quick fix you can replace your faux woodgrain paneling with New 3M vinyl woodgrain paneling its real inexpensive and a quick paint job that ride would turn heads
If you find one anywhere with the TB on the left side of the engine bay that means a real mustang 302 ('80's ) was swapped in, gives a little more merging power and response ( still a 4,200 lb wagon)
I get the efficiency thing as far as why they don't make cars like this anymore. What I DON'T understand is the comfort thing. Maybe it is a safety concern with drivers falling asleep? Or suspension designed to take curves more confidently to cut down on cars wrapping around trees. It's just sad the contrast between todays vehicles and those of yesteryear, the comfort factor is just gone. Even on "luxury" cars they don't ride as smoothly and their seats are not as soft as even economy brand cars from the 80s and before like chevy and ford.
It's only because of cost cutting. Zero other reasons. My 1988 f250 handles better and feels nicer than my 2004 f250, my 2008 f150, or brand new 2022 company truck. Embarrassing
When you opened the back of it ; it totally reminded me of Tremors. If you haven’t seen the part where the Graboids pulled down the car I recommend it. Was the car in the movie a Mercury Colony Park?
Thanks Zack. Theres cigar lighters in the back doors. My kids use them for charging outlets

Young person, 2021: Ughhh I have to drive an SUV? yuck
Young person, 2051: beep borp boop zip zoop
Fun fact, The family truckster from national lampoons vacation was based on the Ford version of this car, the country Squire
A real car....
Not today's plastic fantastic car's
This is what America needs to bring back.

I love how even the dash is styled like an old fashioned fancy watch
Still love these cars. Still want another one. Owned an '82 Grand Marquis coupe.
Old station wagons with tons of wood paneling are fascinating vehicles. Gorgeous cars.

I love these big station wagons. It's like driving a water bed. Surprising what all they will carry. No need to rent a U-Haul.

Great vehicle.
I ABSOLUTELY love my 84 Colony Park... Super fast enough an Soooooo smooth.. sweet car...

Zach if you think this car is huge you need to drive a 70’s era Colony Park. Those cars bring a new definition to BIG!!😂
So cool you got to review John’s wagon
Wow, this car brings me back, these, the K car and the GM’ station wagons. Nice review.
Damn now I need to get one of those and have a pair of luxurious wagons

Gorgeous car, the ‘84 front end really improves its looks a lot.
Agreed. I loved the earlier squared off models.
Not a Ford guy at all but these were nice …….look at the quality of that leather .

The front clip appears to be from a 1982 Marquis.
Very cool wagon
I think I have seen this car. Is this the one parked in front of a house on Delaney Rd. in Wadsworth? It was there until very recently.
soo cool and the rumble seats! bitchin!
1:17 on those dinosaurs you had to use a breakout box ,
VERY AWESOME!
Shes gone from Portland, Oregon to Chicago, Chicago to Corpus Christi, TX and back and Chicago to Tampa and back.

It was a 1984-7 Ford LTD/Crown Victoria Country Squire minus the wood trim.
Strange video. You should start it like Doug Demuro, " THISSSSSS is a 1988 Mercury Colony Wagon !!"
Do video about AMC EAGLE i am very sure
you will like it
Literally the very first crossover
@@celsovera91 still better than some new SUVs 🚙
LOL 55 national speed limit for American cars here on my Subarus no 55 is squared and it goes all the way to 130
I'm pretty sure the foreign automakers didn't care about American speed limits. I wouldn't.😅
Time to take the kids to Wally world
Cue holiday road
Got an 88 vic lx. Almost mint. Love it!
These ford and mercury wagons are the worst snow vehicles ever made. they slide all over the place.
1st?
that car looks like shit tbh!
