      I noticed the exact same things you did. South Korea and the Philippines military are heavily influenced by the U.S. Japan shows influence from the U.S. and Great Britain. The relaxed steps are American and the wide arm swings are British. There was Red China. Not that their marching pattern was unattractive. It closely resembled the World War Two Soviet Red Army marching pattern.

    Enjoying seeing the many different countries marching in formation. Their uniform varieties, marching discipline, Their differences, none of them are the same even ones that look similar have small differences to make them each unique. Splendid parade by all nations. I'm sure your citizens are very proud to have you represent them. Getting to see the mongolian honor guard was a real treat as well. Very classy.

    For those curious about why the US march is more relaxed than, say, the Chinese march, it mainly has to do with injury mitigation. The goose step can, over time, cause serious injuries to the knees, ankles, lower back, and lower joints. Additionally, excessive arm extensions can cause joint damage as well.

    My theory, when I was 17 and enlisted in the Irish army I spent many an hour "square bashing", marching in formation. These
    days modern soldiers have to learn so much modern technology that they really dont have the time to spend it on marching
    practice, so the best modern solider are the worst at marching . Look at the Americans, the are basically walking.

      Ever since the sino soviet split they had a relatively competent army, about 150'000 strong at its peak, the Soviets stationed the 39th army there ever since the late 50s in Mongolia. In the early days of the cold war they were one of the most competent fighting forces in all of asia now its only about 1/10th its size only about 12'000 active, and most of their advanced military hardware given back to the soviets, its pretty sad really.

    Thank you for the video, it was quite interesting. This shows a parade, along with dances and other entertainment. It was informative to see the marching styles of the different armies. There are commenters that attempted to connect the parade with the military ability. of their country. That is silly (which covers idiotic, ignorant, and unrealistic). One even mentioned how the US personnel were overweight. I would prefer that the US military to be doing their jobs to protect NATO and other countries, and NOT in a parade (not typical in the US). The several US Army/Marine drill teams were not present ... probably because they had better things to do.
    The size of the hats, the medals (not ribbons), and the goose-stepping (like the Germans did in WWII) is not indicative of their military prowess, ability, and strength. All show, no content.

    • @MaximusandHistory
      @MaximusandHistory 3 місяці тому +1

      Why do people keep thinking this is just some kind of parade? It was a multinational military exercise! What you're seeing is just the closing ceremony of the exercise. If the troops are marching poorly, that just shows they lack basic drill.

    • @alganhar1
      @alganhar1 3 місяці тому +2

      @@MaximusandHistory It shows differences in parade drill is all. The Americans for example do not really put much stock in it, hence their very relaxed style. The US Drill is very close to their infantry operational march cadence.
      The British style comes from Ceremonial duties, which most British infantry regiments do not take part in. Outside drill its never used.
      Things like the lockstep are used because they are technically more difficult, and give a sense of greater 'discipline', but again are useless in actual battle.
      Parade drill is not about combat, its about putting on a show, and the US just does not see the need to do that in most cases. If they had, they would have sent the USMC, not Army. Essentially parade drill is a holdover from linear warfare. Looks pretty in this day and age but serves no function beyond theatrics.

    The styles just have to do with the origins of their military traditions. Many of the "arm swinging" nations owe their military heritage to the British. If you want to see a highly authentic German military parade... go to Chile because their armed forces were originally trained by a cadre of Prussian soldiers and they still have all those older traditions.

    Some smart looking marching teams there, but given that marching originated as part of moving armies from point-a to point-b, a lot of these teams aren't going to make it 1 KM in full kit, before they have serious knee, foot, and back injuries.

      Most civilians struggle to differentiate the parade step vs marching on foot.
      Not a single soldier here is going to use a parade step to march 1km 😅

      Do you actually believe that the US would send its elite, even best, to a parade? Did the US send one of its drill teams to "awe" the audience? The US has better things to do, such as protecting other countries, not necessarily the ones just in NATO. Perhaps parades, with large hats, and goose-stepping (like the Nazis), is far more important to some.

    It's easy enough to spot the Russian/Chinese influenced marching styles, with the forced swinging of the arms. It's all meant to impress, giving the impression of a potentially superior army. But as we've seen in Ukraine, the Russian army in particular, seems lacking in training, tactical awareness, and battlefield skills. Fancy marching skills don't win victories.
