Thank you for recognizing Bernie Taupin’s contribution. As much as I love Elton and have since I first heard Crocodile Rock when it was first released, I think Bernie is one of the most gifted lyricists of the rock era. ❤
Yes !
Bernie Taupin is one of my heroes. He is a true poet.
These lyrics are astonishing. But then only Elton could turn these lyrics into a song.
The only one better is Bob Dylan.
Stopping by to say “hi”!
You picked a winner here. The whole Madman Across the Water album is phenomenal.
ropping by to say hi.
Agreed! Some of my favorites is 'Indian Sunset', 'Razor Face', Tiny Dancer'. Cheers
Totally agree, Matt, and hello! First CD I purchased when converting music library. Indian Sunset made me cry...
Agreed!!! He had some great records before this, but “Madman” got everyone’s attention. It blew everyone away, and really placed Elton in the upper echelon.
Bkm I agree! Please do Indian sunset!
Once again Elton’s “Funeral For A Friend/ Love Lies Bleeding” is the ear candy you need! Please!
I've been requesting that forever! I don't know what the trick is, but it always gets overlooked.
I agree!
I second this suggestion. A definite must hear!
My favorite version is from his "Here and There' Live album.....
Those are great suggestions !
Lēvon- one of my absolute favorites. Who else just went "och" when J stopped in the middle of the chorus that first time? Us old folks know where the good parts are already 😉. Love y'all ❤️
Yeah, when Jordan paused there -- it was like hearing a record scratch. Have a great day!
I literally almost screamed out no!! Lol
J seems to always know the worst place to stand on the brakes during a great song!
@@markmcelligott2542 LOL! It's true! Sometimes he has the good sense to back up the video a bit when he starts playing it again, but there have been so many times when he'll pause it right at the best part of the song!
I almost threw a shoe!! Ha ha
Once again, I'll strongly endorse Elton's 11-minute masterpiece "Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" as your next reaction from him. Starts the 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" album off with a song that constantly changes directions.
Hello Brad hope your day is great🙂
His best tune for sure.
Upvote for your comment! I didn't see yours before I made mine! Too cool!
I totally second that!!! A true masterpiece!
I must be the only one who "likes it" but I don't "love it".
One more thing. I don't know if you know but Christine McVie from Fleetwood Mac passed away today. So if you could pay tribute to her, it'd be heart warming. It's so sad we're losing all of these great musicians 😪
I don’t know your age, but I feel sad b/c these are my heroes and contemporaries that we are losing. The only lucky thing we have is the tech to be able to listen to them and be thankful over and over whenever we choose. I nominate Christine for this weeks Female Friday, my favorite day on your channel.
@@barrymuller5131 I'm probably around the same age as you. I grew up listening to this music. We were lucky to be a part of that era. I'm with you about female Friday. This is so sad 😞
Christine McVie may be one of the most underrated songwriters in history. RIP Christine 🙏🙏
Hello Mary, I hope all is well with you and thanks for mentioning this. Such a great band and she was a huge reason why.
Hoping for a reaction to "Songbird." RIP Christine.
“Don’t let the sun go go down on me” and “Daniel” are two of my favorites. There’s just too many to name, he’s had so many good songs.
I know. It's hard to pick just one
Daniel is my favorite. Second is Crocodile Rock.🤣🤷♂️
The songs he sang for the Lion King such as The Circle of Life. was good as well
Yes he dose have so many great songs in his long and great career . It is so hard too really choice the best and I do love his song Don’t let the sun go down on me
Hi
I've been a loyal diehard Elton John since 1974.....i LOVE ALL his music and his voice from 1969 to 1981. The whole decade of the 70's are the absolute finest of Elton John music.
Bar none it was the greatest era of his entire career. Yes he had great hits after 1981 but this era of his music was above and beyond the elitest. ❤
"Empty Garden", Elton's song for John Lennon, another beautiful masterpiece.
Levon is just another classically produced perfect song for Elton. The instruments are outstanding and the lyrics draw your full attention. Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦 🇨🇦
Hey Mary - Amber and J said I needed to reach out to someone, so tag you're it! I am a fellow Canadian, from Vancouver, and I wanted to let you know I often see your comments on these videos and it always makes me smile to think that a fellow Canuck is representing us so well in the comments sections! Buckets of Maple Syrup love right back at you!
@@keymack2477 Well, you just made me smile. Such kind comments, my fellow Canadian. So lucky to live in the West.
Have a great night and thank you.
😊👍✌️🎶🇨🇦
Mary, you beat me to Empty Garden.
Hi Mary. I sought you out just like Key. I see your comments all the time. Buckets of maple syrup love back at you. Hope you're having a great night and tomorrow is even better.
Hi Mary!
“Someone saved my life tonight” is a great one, you’ll love it
Great suggestion John! Hope you’re doing well. 🙏
@@arc88arc88 Thank you, have a wonderful day!
👏🏼 👏🏼 YES!!
I love Sir Elton John's music, especially is early work. I agree with you John, 'Someone saved my life tonight' is an excellent choice- it is one of my favourites.
Elton's greatest masterpiece is the 11-minute "Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" A true high-water mark for popular music.
Absolutely! It is a "no-brainer" on any list of EJ's best songs! Absolutely stunning, and a real journey! EPIC!✌💥
YESSSSSSSS!
Quite possibly my favorite Elton song❤️❤️❤️
Hi...hands down my favorite EJ song.
Hey Sara and Marshman96!! Hope you all are good. Yeah the writing on the song is so perfect and I gotta say, It is my favorite Elton song too.
Hi you two. I concur - my fave of Elton's. A big call I know. And any time I hear his music I give thanks for Bernie Taupin. One of the greatest collaborations in music.
"Ticking" by Sir Elton is an underrated masterpiece. Really sad but brilliant.
I was going to comment and suggest Ticking. By far an under rated masterpiece!
Completely agree. 99% of people have no idea of this masterpiece. There is only one reaction channel that I know of who have covered it. They were blown away by it!
One of my favorite. They seem to like songs that tell a story, THIS is one story telling song.
Hey Eric, just following their advice and saying hi. I'm not sure I know that one I'll check it out, thanks.
Such a good song! I remember going into my Creative Writing class in High school in 1975 - 10th Grade. A senior from the class before me had written the lyrics to it on the chalk board, so I got to read all of the words before i ever heard it. Wow!
Even after eighteen Elton John reactions, it's astonishing how many are still left in the tank! "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" is amazing, and I would also love to hear your take on "Nikita", "The Club at the End of the Street", "Philadelphia Freedom", "Healing Hands", and "Believe".
All girls love Alice! One of my favorites.
Well said Patrick, hope your having a great day. 👏
A Philly Freedom reaction should be reserved for July 4th, IMO.
Philadelphia Freedom is amazing! Hope you all are having a great day
Island Girl and Empty Garden as well
Jay & Amber, you'll love his "Philadelphia Freedom", "Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding",
and "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me"!!!!
I want to thank you each night for your valuable information you share. It saves on my 70 year old brain. Have a wonderful night. You make me smile.
😊👍✌️🎶🇨🇦
Even after hearing this song a million times, still…chills and tears
Finally!! One of Elton’s most underrated songs. A banger!
If you think this is underated then you never listened to Elton John.
I agree.. one of my favorites… ✌🏼& ♥️
Go away, troll. This is a positive space - no place for your negativity.
You talking to me? Not a troll!!
@audracrawford8836 - no, not at all! I was referring to the other commenter who said I must not know Elton John because I said Levon was an underrated song. Sorry for the misunderstanding
One of the best concerts I've ever been to. Elton is incredible live!
Ditto
hey how 's it going john? i would've been over the moon hearing him perform live
I got to see him once and I will never forget it. He was amazing.
Yes he is fantastic live! He is my 2nd best concert (and I've been to a ton) and that's only because my number one was Queen in 1980.
Totally agree!
One of my favorite artists of all time. I'm so happy you guys enjoy him. This man was the soundtrack of my late teens and twenties.
Ditto❗😉💞
i've put elton john on my favorite artist list ever since i heard him in The Lion King
Hi...same with me. So glad Elton didn't take his piano teachers criticism to heart. I can't imagine a world without Elton.
Hello!
@@queenbeedat8726 Howdy!
I was luck enough to see Elton 4 times in concert. Levon is my absolute favorite. Madman across the water is in my opinion one of the best albums I have ever owned (wore out 3 albums, 4 8-tracks, 4 cassettes and have managed to wear out 4 cds). Now I have him on my playlist. You guys HAVE to review Indian Sunset in THIS album. Thanks for all you do it makes an old woman smile!!
Hey Jay/Amber thank you once again for listening to Sir Elton. Please listen to Harmony and All the young girls love Alice. Both are phenomenal songs.
All the girls love Alice is a great one for sure!
Alice is Awesome!
Amber will love Harmony!
Hope you guys do a tribute to Christine McVie, who just passed away today, for tomorrow's videos. Probably her best and most uplifting Fleetwood Mac song she did the leads on is "Don't Stop." It was also the song that they played when they reunited to perform at Bill Clinton's inaugural in 1993. She also had a few solo hits, my faves are "Got a Hold on Me" and "Songbird."
Would be cool to do those 3 songs on female Fri as a tribute to her
Yes, definitely Songbird
Christine McVie is probably one of the most underrated songwriters in history, she was so good. 🙏
Christine contributed songs to Fleetwood Mac for several years before Lindsey and Stevie joined the band. Some suggestions:
- From the "Future Games" album - "Morning Rain"
- From the "Bare Trees" album - "Homeward Bound"
- From the "Mystery To Me" album - "Why"
- from the "Penguin" album - "Remember Me"
Christine actually wrote most of their hits in the 70s. Their only #1 was "Dreams" written by Stevie, but Christine wrote most of the top 10s.
Elton’s greatest album hands down.
I think so too, it's been my favourite Elton John album for years. I've got hundreds of albums and that one is in my top five.
Elton John’s YOUR SONG…an all time CLASSIC!!!
One of my favorite songs! This album is perfect. 😍
I love this whole album. Notably, Elton John's oldest son was born on Christmas day & Levon is one of his middle names.
Hi Steff!! This is what I love about music reactions is what I learn from others in the comments. Have a fantastic day!
@@chrisriley8749 me too! Cool, have a great day yourself! 👍
I get chills whenever i hear Levon
Hard to imagine how long I've been waiting for you two to react to this song! "Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" and "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters" should be next!
One of my all-time favorite Elton John songs is someone saved my life tonight
Saying hi today! Hope you’re having a good one ✌🏻💕
I love Elton John. Yes, Elton is very (very) talented, and Bernie is awesome.... but as Elton has said many times before - "I can't understate how great the band was." The Elton John band is just absolutely outstanding. Those early albums (through Captain Fantastic) with Nigel's drums are so great! Davey Johnstone on guitar and Dee Murray on bass, are just magical. The producer Gud Dudgeon made those early records really shine. Thanks for playing... and YES - I support all the comments below to react to "Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding". (Studio version please).
Another great one from Elton. Since you are already on the Madman Across the Water album, you should listen to the title track, Madman Across the Water. It is not the typical Elton you are used to and it is FIRE!!
This is one of Bernies best song, and Elton does a great job with the music.
This is definitely one of my favorite Elton songs. So glad you gave it a listen/reaction.
In case you haven't heard Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac passed away today. Please review "Little Lies" . She does a wonderful job of singing the lead on it.
A sad announcement from the music world. Christine McVie (the other female) singer and keyboard player from Fleetwood Mac has "unexpectedly" passed away at age 79. From the news account, she hadn't been ill or sick, but something changed in the last week. I'm sure more details will become available as the facts come to light. Immensely talented as both a singer and songwriter for Fleetwood Mac, Christine also played keyboards as well. She always lived in the shadow of the beautiful Stevie Nicks, but Stevie would be the first to tell you, that Christine was a great talent, and a wonderful friend.
God Bless
This is a huge loss as she was one of the biggest talents in music history as well as a class act. Thoughts and prayers to her family and friends and she will be greatly missed!
Empty Garden - his song for John Lennon. One of his best. He doesn't perform it very often because he gets too emotional when singing it.
This song is a masterpiece
This is my favorite Elton John song and I first heard it when I was ten years old. Great choice!
hiii Jesus loves you:)
"Don't let the Sun Go Down on Me" is my #1 EJ classic!
"Funeral for a Friend"-"Love Lies Bleeding", best Elton ever! Big sound!
Strings are arranged by Paul Buckmaster, who had such a distinctive sound, and was putting his touches on contemporary songs right up until his death in 2017. When Beck put out his Sea Change album in 2002, his father David Campbell conducted the strings, but in interviews, he'd refer to the arrangements as "Paul Buckmaster Strings." It was just a descriptor that people would immediately understand what it would sound like.
This is probably odd but Paul Buckmaster's strings were one of the first things that drew me to Elton's music when I was a kid.
@@Lionize728 Not odd at all. He was one of the best to ever do what he did.
Madman is arguably Elton's best work.
I could listen to those strings forever.
oh. same.
Bernie writes the lyrics, and then Elton puts the music to his words. Amazing songs from this collaboration.
I had a chance to see Elton and his band members about 2 months ago with my sister and our adult children (28-37 yrs old) - BEST CONCERT EVER!!! His band members are the most stylish and talented crew I've seen on stage. I left with more respect than I had before. He sounded great! Thank you for this reaction :)
Oh, How I envy you.
Hello its Jackie from. Nebraska i hope you had a awesome holiday 😍
amazing!!! and Hi!!!
Similar story with my adult children, they were 24.22.&18 at the time, and new every word to every song. To me that means that as parents, my wife and I definitely did SOMETHING right!!
You was so lucky and I know you had a blast .
"Someone Saved My Life Tonight" is one of my all-time favorites.
Levon is a great song from Sir Elton 👍🏽
Oooh, my favorite Elton John song!
His earlier albums, Empty Sky, Madman, Honky Chateau and Tumbleweed Connection are some of the finest ones ever produced, just incredible. Loved his early stuff! Nothing like it.
Another Levon you might have forgotten is Levon Helms the drummer-lead singer of The Band. Love to hear them doing "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" a good story song.
All his stuff is fantastic...."Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" is a MUST
Can't go wrong with any of Eltons songs !!!
I love this song, but then again there is not an Elton John song that I dislike. I have loved him since I was like 10 1970. He's amazing!!! When I hear him sing I get goose bumps and tears flow..
Hi Kathy. How are ya? Love this channel
You must listen to Elton's 'Take Me To The Pilot." I think it was the best of the early Elton years.
Just saw him a few weeks ago in San Diego on his farewell tour. A fan since I was a kid in the 70s, and I finally got to see him. Everything about it: his performance, the band, the sound and visuals was stellar. Without a doubt the best show I’ve ever seen.
Elton's early vocals have such a raw emotional edge to them. His later songs he was smoother yet slicker in using those emotions. That's why they call him "Sir". ☮💙🎶
I do love Elton’s vocals ♥️
Hope you’re having a great day.
I've seen "Funeral For A Friend / Love Lies Bleeding" requested here several Times ...... When You eventually get around to it, You are in for a Treat..... Sometimes it can be hard to hear clearly the Words when Elton sings .... So having Bernie's Lyrics in front of you or playing a video where the lyrics are transcribed is a Big plus
Cheers From Australia
One of my favourite Elton tunes…..can’t go wrong with a timeless classic. Great stuff guys✌️
Hey Doc, all of his stuff is great one of the few artists who I like almost everything that he puts out!
I agree Doc can't go wrong
R.I.P. Christine McVie..Thanks For ALL You Gave Us..You Will Be TRULY Missed.🙏❤
Lee von is one of Elton’s best songs with out of this world piano playing!
Indian Sunset is epic.. love the whole album!
If you haven't done it already
Definitely check out
Elton John
Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding
I am a huge fan of Elton John! In fact, I was a fan before I even knew who Elton John was. I had heard a song on Solid Gold called Empty Garden, I fell in love with song and I had no clue who sang it or who Elton John was. A couple years later, we were living in Spain, my dad was Air Force, and I think Nikita came out and finally I knew who sang Empty Gardens and who Elton John was. I knew many of his songs, I just hadn’t started identifying songs by singers yet. Many people seem to forget Empty Gardens, this song is iconic and in memory of John Lennon who had recently been killed.
Levon was a war veteran. He was a good man, he believed in tradition, he was born to a poor family, but he made good for himself after the war, and started his own business, became financially secure...successful. He eventually had a son (Jesus). He taught Jesus the family business selling ballons to tourists and the like, and hoped Jesus would carry on the tradition and family business. But Jesus wanted to get away and do bigger, more exciting things. He felt like he would lose his mind working the family business that bored him to tears, and wanted to leave his father's world behind, which he considered to be just a march to one's death (born, work, die). The song is their story, the conflict between fathers and sons, and between different generations with different values.
I think you'll enjoy one of his biggest hits, "Philadelphia Freedom," and he recorded one of the greatest remakes of the rock era, The Beatles' "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds," a song he called one of the greatest songs ever written.
Have always loved Elton! Thanks for this reaction!
Paul Buckmaster is the orchestral genius behind his pioneering arrangements for Sir Elton.
So much symbolism. As is usual with early Elton John.
My father was a HUGE Elton John fan, so I had access to all of his albums when I’ve was a young teenager. The songs from this album and the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album will always bring up fond memories of my dad and my teens!
This is one of my top favorite Elton songs. There's just so many. It's a song about someone that is bored with life. He can't walk away from the family plan (business) so he releases balloons and wishes he can fly away.
Hello
Old Elton tunes were perfection. You still have not checked out "Someone Saved My Life Tonight", which I feel is one of his best, especially his live version because it showcases his vocals when he was younger.
One of my favorite songs of all time. Almost makes my cry every time. A song, to me, about living a scripted life rooted in expectations. The brief passage about his son, Jesus, tells much about who Levon is. He "shall" be Levon. He "must" be Levon. The younger generation revolts. In the 60s and 70, much of the youth, my mother included, wanted to "take a balloon and go sailing..." many did, one way or another. Brilliant song!
You can't go wrong with Madman Across The Water. Every song is a keeper. Elton and Bernie were in the groove! 😀
Honky Chateau was no slouch!!!!!
Need to do one for the amazing Christine McVie, who recently passed away. May I suggest her biggest solo hit? Got A Hold On Me. She was a truly gifted singer, songwriter, musician. R.I.P.
I love it. I also recommend "Candle in the Wind." It's about Marilyn Monroe. He later sang it a little differently when he dedicated it to Princess Diana.
I was a teenager when Levon was popular. Loved it then and love it now. Thanks for reviewing it. It has always been a favorite of mine.
I just love this song! Levon has always been a favorite of mine❤
Since Christine McVie (Fleetwood Mac) passed away today, I think a fitting tribute to her would be, playing a song she did in 1973 from the album Mystery to Me. The song is, “Why.” It seems so appropriate…and you’ll LOVE it.
Who keeps recommending mellow Elton??? Elton has so many rocking songs...ugh... Like Alice, love lies bleeding, the criminal... Great reaction. 👍
The drummer/singer for The Band was named Levon Helm. The story is Bernie and Elton used the name simply because they liked the way it sounded
His piano in "The ballad of Danny Bailey" is just amazing! You should check it out.
One of my favorites! The New York Times actually did print the headline "God is Dead" in the mid 70's, (around 74/75) I remember thinking "No, God is not dead, you are!"
@Suzanne Prock, I just wanted to say hello and I hope God blesses you richly today.
Hey there Suzanne, I'm Ali. yes they did... Do you remember when it was reported that John Lennon said he was bigger than God and the world went crazy. Insisting, everyone destroyed their Beatles records. People actually did this. Nice to meet you and Have a wonderful Christmas ..xo
My first Elton John album was Rock of the Westies. " "island Girl" 1974 Does anyone rememebr
"Grow some funk of your own, Amigo" or " And I feel like a bullet in the gun of Robert Ford" " Yell Help" " Dan Dare
My stars might have been right on the planet Mars "
And Billy bones and the white Bird" I was on 3 grade then.
@@shapeach I remember Grow Some Funk of Your Own, his early music, it was a good song!
@@Maydoggie How sweet, thank you and to you and yours as well!
His band is so underrated. Davey is killer on guitar and mandolin and Nigel Olssen is really a great drummer. Also, the symphonic arrangements this period by Paul Buckmaster are just brilliant.
The song is about Levon Helm. The drummer for a Canadian rock group called “The Band”. Elton always liked his drumming technique and Bernie wrote this song about him.
"Someone Saved my Life Tonight"
You guys should do You Make Loving Fun by Fleetwood Mac since Christine Mc Vie died today. She had the most top ten hits of the group and it's a shame she is overshadowed by the others. MORE top ten hits than Stevie.
Elton John was hands down the best concert I have ever seen! Great music and showmanship. Levon is one of my faves along with Daniel. Be blessed and have a great day!
This was fantastic, thanks. 2 Great Deep Cuts from EJ: Mona Lisa & Madhatters and "The Ballad of Danny Bailey"! You will love it.
Great song. You really need to explore songs fromhis album "Tumbleweed Connection" - including "Country Comfort" and "Amoreena"....
Amoreena is 🔥 🔥 🔥
Amoreena is one of my favorites 💓
This is on the "Madman Across the Water" album. You should do the title song, too!
Since the 70`s this song make me happy every time I hear it no matter how bad my day has been.
I saw Elton in 1980 in Sydney, Elton with a piano, for 90 minutes then Ray Cooper - 3 and half hours of brilliance... I think he may have been stoned, but hey, I was too! 42 years later, and it was a seminal experience. Legend.
Another interesting song to give a listen to is also on this album. The song 'Holiday Inn'. It's the first song where the Elton John Band finally plays together (Nigel Olsson, Dee Murray, and Davey Johnstone) and describes Elton, Nigel, and Dee on the road together for their first tour of the USA, when they first hit it big.
Boston at last! And the plane's touching down...
Elton John is great, I have all his music 🎶 This one is my favorite. Thanks guys for playing this song.
This is my all-time favorite Elton John song. Runner-up is Lucy in the Sky With Diamond (album version).
One of my best songs from Elton John that I love. This song drew me to notice Elton as one of my favorite artist....the whole album, "Madman Across The Water," and every song on the album is great!!!! I have the album and play it from time to time....Excellent!!!
Madman is my favourite Elton John album, has been for years, can't understand why nobody ever mentions Holiday Inn or Rotten Peaches, two of my favourites from the album.
R.I.P. Christine McVie, Fleetwood Mac singer, age 79 thank you for your awesome vocals, song writing, and faithfulness to your fans over the years, you made alot of ppl happy and get through some hard times with your music and tenderness and will be missed and condolences to your family and friends
One of my favorite songs and artists. I named my orange tabby cat Levon. He's very vocal and answers me everytime I call his name.
Child of the 70's, love the music, back story of my life when I hear 70's songs.
