Dude, I'm the same as you. At 59, it's not the same when I was 25, but still enjoyable! You still got good knees - kneeling like that for so long. I use a short chair on wheels now. Spinning the wheel during re-assembly, nice touch. Yeah, mentally reflecting on dad showing me the same thing. Oil change, sparks, distributer timing (loved using the timing light gun), the stinky differential lube, bleeding breaks. Even adding washers on the door lugs to make it close like new again. Remember GoJo? Loved the orange smell as a kid. It took time to learn the socket sizes as a kid though! Now days, I wear those thin rubber gloves from AutoZone, but back in the day, greasy hands were cool, ha! I still buff the car with Meguiars and a dual action (DA) polisher. Good times! Good surprise video, Wilma! Thank you🙂

Pump the brake pedal before starting the engine to seat the pads. Then drive cautiously to bed the pads to the rotors. Two tips, only remove the bottom bolt of the caliper then flip the caliper up and you have access to the pads. Use course sandpaper to scuff the rotors on both sides. Scuffing the rotors allows the pads to adhere quickly, since the rotors are not being machined. That is what you are really paying the mechanic shop for. Lastly the Brembos will probably wear a little faster because they are high performance pads and are a softer pad material with better stopping performance. Yes, going down those hills does accelerate pad wear. Oh, and use you weight to loosen or tighten the lug nuts.

Another funny thing we had a flat on our way to the doctors office. I have not had a flat in 12 years! I did not even know where my tools were. Luckily the business I pulled into had a shop and used a fork lift to lift the truck. A little embarrassing for me. I had to totally replace a relatively new tire! That one flat cost me $280. Then last month after returning from a trip to the Doctors office in Lubbock I walk out to a flat tire. That was in the brand new tire I just replaced! This fix cost me just my time!

I haven’t brought any of my vehicles to a garage for at least 15 years now . The last time I went was when I needed new pads also, they quoted me $100 just to inspect it first then they could tell me what I needed done , so I told them I already know what I need and they refused to put pads on without charging for the inspection first 🤷‍♂️
I’m a lot like you in this regard, I actually enjoy working on vehicles and do all my own oil changes and pretty much everything that doesn’t involve plugging into a computer. I even do work for friends as long as they pay for the parts I’m happy to do the work for free .

Without jack stands, I’d feel safer putting a big block of wood or a concrete block under the frame. Did you buy your socket set in the PHs? Or, bring it from the US? How’s the quality of tools there? I heard a lot of tools there are lower quality from China. Very thorough explanation of how to change the brake pads 👍.
