Man, Trivium riffs are so fun to play. I grew up playing along to Metallica. And of course I still love Metallica but when you get deep into them there's not a ton of diversity in the patterns, especially the solos. Learning Trivium songs really really keeps me on my toes!
I just picked up a set of moderns for my custom guitar and I've been a lifelong passive pickup user. I replaced some pretty quality SD's humbuckers (with a coil split mod) and I have to say I'm super impressed with the changes. It pretty well improved everything accross the board in terms of clarity and sustain in all the modes. The split coil is especially much better than before. I've never had a guitar with such versatility before.. it's great to be able to nail my favorite tones in the same guitar whether they be crushing like Sylosis or pristine like Polyphia. The picking response feels more accurate, consistent and they are super quiet too! Long story short: Fishman has changed my mind about active pickups.. these are killer.
I can not wait until June.. Grabbing myself a Black 6 string Les Paul - I've been seeing a massive rise in the use of Fishman pickups amongst my favourite guitarists!
@@puredistilledwater of course he is. Never said he wasn’t. Just wanted people to know who is inspiration was. But you have to admit that young James was a much better down pick guitarist at his prime.

Anyone else feel like there's quite a bit of high end on this tone? Could be my phone speaker it just seems like there's a lot of pick scratchiness going on.
The Fluence Moderns have a lot of clarity, and a cutting high end. They are high output, and the bridge tends to be ceramic. You get alot of pick attack with them. On a phone speaker you are going to be getting most of the high end.
@@Fishman_Music on the website it shows that his pickups have a lower peak frequency than the moderns. These do sound like they don’t really have that cocked wah sound that I hear in the moderns
Question: What would be the difference between voice three of this pickup and just coil-splitting/-tapping a Fluence Modern? Is there even a difference?
The third voice on the Matt Heafy pickups has specific, seperate voicing for the coil split to give it real single-coil response and tone. When you coil tap a Fluence Modern, your result whatever coil you choose voiced as the humbucker setting you are in, which was not optimized for single-coil response.
@@Fishman_Music So activating the coil split on the Fluence Modern would be like using coil split on any other humbucker - it's going to give a different tone that sounds similar to a single coil but not completely like the real thing. Whereas one of the Fluence models with a voice 3 would be much more accurate to a true single coil? I actually have a guitar with Fluence Moderns arriving in a couple of days, looking forward to it as I've never played Fishman pickups (or even anything other than passives) before but in every demo I've watched they seem to sound great. I think the set I am most drawn to is the Javier Reyes which do seem to have the seperate voice 3 so hopefully one day I'll be able to experience those. I've noticed that the wiring diagrams for Fluence humbuckers show that either coil can be chosen for the split, would be interesting to know how much difference in tone there is between using the inner coil or outer coil. Most of the guitars with Fluence I've looked up have only the voice 1/2 option and a few do have the coil split on/off but it will of course just be using whatever coil the manufacturer has chosen. But I suppose there would be nothing to stop someone getting a set installed & wired so each pickup can be changed betwee voice 1 / voice 2 / coil split or voice 3 inner / coil split or voice 3 outer, so then in combination with a 3 way switch there would be a load of different options.
I have the Tosin signatures, but I believe it's the same for these as well. Switching between voices 1 and 2 is done by using push-pull pots, but you can probably also use a mini toggle switch. Voice 3 is automatically engaged when any single coil position is selected.
