I found that a really good, ultra-fine mister slows the drying time when you want it. Mini Mister is what I use but there are others. A mist will not revive dried paint. But you can mist stencils before putting them down or just after. Older paints are often a bit dried out so a mister can make them just a tiny bit more fluid without making them watery. You can also mist stamps and paper for different effects.
I recently purchased a sustained fine mist bottle from a beauty supply for use in sewing and tailoring when I need to very slightly dampen the fabric when sculpting or melding. I decided to get another one to use for coffee and tea dying with a fine mist (filtering so that the bottle doesn’t clog up). I am watching as many of Celi’s videos as I can before trying those experiments.
That is a great idea! Now do you have a source for such an item. The one I have holds about 4 sprays of water, then it needs refilling. The others spay out too much but hold more water. Appreciate your comment.
Prints are beautful! I can't wait to follow them to see where they go! I really have learned so much Gelli printing techniques from you! You say you aren't a teacher, but actially you are! Thank you, thank you! I'm thrilled I stumbled across you!
I bet those ideas are just perking along. I’m very intrigued with the way you approach journaling and all that goes with it. A very calm way, and very organized. I appreciate it. In addition, another video that interest me was the one that you talked about your background. It was very interesting. I had no idea, as I was directed to you from Gayle., who spoke highly of you. Finding out about your talents and all your experience was most interesting. if you’re interested, I’ll send you pictures of my cakes. Not edible, but make out of cardboard and paper based on a theme. I seem to love creating these table centerpieces. Do you have an email that I can send pictures to? Carol from California
What a fun session! Love the grungy clean off print with the numbers….very Tim Holtzy! 😂. Just love a good Gelli printing session, especially with my pal, Ceri! Love and hugs, my friend! ❤️
I really enjoyed watching you make the gelli prints. The one you call your lost cause happens to be one of my favorites. Beautiful prints. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Mr Ceri. Watching your videos using gel plates took the unknown away that was hindering me from trying it out. I received a gel plate in a craft box and thought it would be way messier. I do my crafting on my dining room table and you showed that fun can be had while containing the mess. Onward and upward.
Anne, I would say the one thing you have to prepare for is a surface to put the prints upon to dry, I normally spread a shower curtain on my floor to lay the prints out on, they do dry reasonable quickly so its not something that’s hanging around long.
pink and grey is a great colour combo. Good to see you using it. l like the one you added red to. Not Christmassy at all, as you said a bit European. I love gelli printing, definitely addictive! TFS
For a self-described amateur, you turn out marvelous informative videos and intriguing results. I shall eagerly await your using these in journaling, collage, etc.
That was a FANTASTIC episode!!!! It’s wonderful watching real-time art happening. I learn so much from seeing you play and try things just because you feel like it. That freedom to express is so rare and important to see. Tentative artists need to see that and understand that their own art is … ah … subject to variation (?) … and that the world indeed does not end. 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕 thank you so much for sharing.
Loved your work today. And actually Turkey is both in Europe and Asia. We lived there for three years and that piece was my favorite because it reminded me of some of the architecture.
Lots of fun Ceri. I'm fascinated how the previous layer of paint becomes a layer, instead of mixing with the layer you put down on top of it. TFS Hope you have a great day. 🌞
I’m so glad I found your channel. I’ve been doing junk journals for about a year now; where have you been? Lol. I think you’re just the cutest and I enjoy watching all your videos, which I’ve been binge watching.
Your Gelli prints are beautiful...this was fun watching you create even more visual interest!! I think my favorite(which surprised even me)had to be the orange-brown one w/ the #s!! 😃🧡
This was so much fun to watch., I love gelli printing, it’s always a surprise how they turn out. Your videos are so interesting and fun to watch. Thanks Ceri for doing them.
Try using the woodblocks on the gelli or put your work on a foam mat / mouse mat - they are originally made to print on cloth with a thick sticky ink but whenever I’ve seen them being used they have a sort of blanket under the fabric.
Hello! P here...enjoyed this--learned some things I didn't know. I feel for your struggle on too much paint, then not enough--the pain is real! What I found was this medium called Retarder. It extends the time the paint stays moist on the plate so you have more opportunity to do stencils, make marks. It changed the way I could do things and opened up a whole new world! Also the looser the paint, the quicker it dries but mixing in some Retarder (USArtSupply is very reasonably priced--but our UK crowd uses something else--ask in Makers, they will respond) will thicken it slightly and keep it moist longer. I enjoy your way of playing at the plate--it is refreshing!
Thank you P, I make no pretence that I’m an expert and try to keep the learning journey real which I think everyone enjoys. I’ll look into the retarder. Thank you for your advice.
@@CeriGriffiths You are so welcome! There is nothing that can adequately replace experience and you are well on your way! Warning...this can be addictive.
If I have any advice it’s, thinner layers of paint, try using transparent or semi transparent paints for your last few layers and grab a colour wheel if you’re unsure of colour combinations. Oh and black or white will always add impact on your final layer.
I just received my 12 x 12 jelli plate today. What do you use under your plate to protect the plate and your work surface? I love the magic that you make with these and look forward to playing with this new craft and the endless fun of patterns, colors and textures!❤
Thank you, I use my papers for many things, in journals, in collage, I make post cards, I make ATC artist trading cards, I make ephemera, I cover boxes with them, I make journal covers.......I do use them a lot.
Just catching up on these videos so not sure you'll see this question. I watched Luisa Heinzel and Barbara 49 dragonflies doing this and they said you have to let colors dry between adding another and that's what Barbara did stopping the video when she dried them with a cool blow dryer. I'm confused, Vicki
Richard, I think it depends on the thickness of your paint and where it is on the page, if you put wet paint over wet paint it’s likely to mix and get muddy however if your paint is not touching other wet paint you’re fine. I find if I’m working with thin layers of paint it’s normally dry before I add the next layer. Hope the helps.
Hi Ceri! So fun!!! I remember my first try I practically drowned the jelly pad in paint... lol. I have to say my absolute favorite is the grungy brown n orange numbers and the teal alphabet. And tissue paper, only because it's so fun to play with later. Question, do you ever brayer the color directly on to your giant stamps rather than using the pad to get a stronger print?
Love watching you craft, do you every use ink's on your gelli plate to make prints. Also I was told baby oil after you have use it. Not every time, helps keep the plate in good condition & extend It's life. Do you know if that true?
Hi Denise, I have used inks on my plate but not alcohol inks......yet. I do condition my plate approx once a month with baby oil but I’m looking at changing to a mineral oil, I’ve heard mineral oil for food chopping boards is good and first smell.
Dawn a lot will depend on your humidity, natural or man made, if your paints dry to quickly you can add a retarder to slow the drying process down, it’s always wet in Wales so I don’t need any normally.
Yes I like watching you. It is soothing. Love what you produce.
Thank you Jennie.

Hugs back at ya North Carolina and thank you.
I loved this video. I am really inspired to dig out my gelli plates.
What’s the worse that can happen, you waste a little paper and paint but you may also have a great deal of fun. Good luck.
I love the bathroom tile one. I too, would like to see how you use these in a project.
I’ll try to plan a few of those type of videos in.

Fabulous
Fun video, Ceri. I'm such a neat freak I couldn't do geli printing. Paint on my hands would send me over the edge. Lololol!!! Fun to watch, though!
Yup not a tidy creative process.
Ok, now I want a jelly block for backgrounds!
If you do get one choose your plate size wisely as they’re not cheap.
I love them all ❤️🐞🥰

Yes I think so color wheel do help.

Yes I do but I’m always aware of the amount of paint I have on my Breyer.
Very 😎 🆒️
Thank you
I would use the labels as a roll of surface instead of directly pressing onto the gelli plate
Yes I do use them as a roll off now as they come off onto the plate.
Is amazing Ceri!! Very beautiful! One question: What is the film over the dark surface? Is it acetate?
Thanks in advanced,
If you mean the black under the gelli plate that’s a piece of acrylic so I can move the plate around whilst filming.

That is ok, must have been awhile ago and no longer fir sale. Too bad I love it. Can’t find anything that nice online.

Would you ever do the back of a lost cause so you don’t have waste the paper?
Yes
What is the best paint to use for the gelli plate
I use acrylic but you can use many different mediums, I also like transparent or semi transparent paints.
Well Ceri now I have to go to the craft store and it's all your fault...lol 💜
Lol.....sorry.........maybe not, have fun.
Ceri how do you stop the paint drying out on the Jelly play that's what I found with mine in is it down to the paint or am I leaving it too long
