Ceri, Being a perfectionist really relates to me. Over the years because of lack of perfection I have self sabotaged so many projects. I grew up in a perfectionist household. I so understand the struggle and I admire your courage and strength to do all that you do so beautifully, honestly and creatively. Thank you.
Thank you Jennifer, I think the roots of my perfectionism are based in my anxiety always telling me my work is not good enough, it’s a struggle but I’m getting better at striving for excellence and not perfection, I may one day achieve what I consider to be excellence and with the comments I’m receiving from my loyal followers I’m beginning to believe more and more that the path I’m on is the right one.
loving this art journal page. Your issue with perfection really connects with me. I struggle so much with it. I have walked away from crafting so many times because I struggle with perfection. I have thrown away so many things and deleted so many videos because of it. I am trying to get my channel started again and you have inspired me. To know others struggle and are doing to well help push me to keep on going. Thank you so much.
My anxiety fuels my perfectionism and tells me everything I create is not good enough.........when I finally understood that I found it a little easier to create, the more you do and share the more the positive comments will boost your confidence to trust your gut and ignore perfection...........it’s unattainable anyway.
You are precious. I love hearing artists talk about their creative process. Lesson learned: let the page be what it wants to be. What has held me back is thinking I need a vision first. I am freed!
Yes I watch her as well and I watch Gail as well I just can't get enough of you guys I find you guys so interesting the way you do your books and you journalling and scrapbooking
Thank you Kelly, I always fear that they’re too long but I try to be as close to 1hour as possible, because an hour flies by when you’re enjoying what you watch.
I too have learned perfection is unattainable. If there is something you don’t like cover it up, make it beautiful, if you can’t make it beautiful make it interesting. You’d be amazed at what happy accidents can turn into. 🧐 just want to say I really enjoy your videos Ceri. Thank-You 🥰 this turned out beautiful!
I needed a little relaxation watching a bit of collage with you tonight Ceri..now I feel I need to bust out my napkins and make a go of something new. Another inspiring video! Thanks ❤️
Mary, I’ve always found it hard to accept that I’m an artist but I know deep down I am, but not in a conventional way in just one medium, I think of myself as more of a creator across many mediums, and I love that I can share that journey.
Loved every bit of this wondering all the time how it was going to turn out. You never fail to deliver Ceri, so patient and so wise. Thanks for the inspiration.
Keri, what a gorgeous piece of art! I love the effect the water sprayed on the paint gives just like you. It’s truly magical how the paint breathes life and moves without borders. I haven’t ever done mixed media, but it’s time I started. I’m going to go back and see how you made your journal so I know how to make mine. Thanks for your vulnerability and allowing yourself to just go with the beautiful changes the paper takes from your original design whenever it happened. I have great anxiety, so I’d find that really hard, so I get you my friend. Be well! ✨
Thank you, my art journal is made from a recycled book and I’m finding that some of the pages are just not strong enough to handle wet techniques, I’d recommend getting yourself a mixed media pad of paper, they come in different sizes and values. If you wish to just create, card stock or thicker paper will work but I’d advise giving it a coating a gesso first just to give the paper a coating so that it doesn’t break down if you keep adding lots of liquids. You could also use recycled canvases or art pieces from the goodwill or charity shops, they’re inexpensive and you normally have a frame so that if you really like your creation its all set to frame when you’re done. But the most important thing is to just have fun creating, its not the destination but the journey that is important for me.
@@CeriGriffiths , I’ll do that and get a mixed media pad of paper. It’s too bad that your book isn’t holding up well because every piece is a work of art and a memory of that moment in time. If the page does fall out, you will always have the piece though, but it would be wonderful if it stayed in place. What a great idea to get an old painting from a second hand store/goodwill/charity shop and using the canvas for a piece Ceri! It’s all ready for a new look because it’s already seasoned with the old paint. I’m always going to goodwill for a good deal, so I’ll check the canvas section out more carefully now. Peace ✌🏽
I love the trick with the napkin and the plastic wrap, I’m going to use it. I had a problem a few weeks ago not getting a smooth finish and this is going to help. Thanks Ceri for sharing your process with us.
Liz just make sure you have no glue or medium on the outside if you can help it or the plastic wrap will stick to it….have a few practice runs at it on a spare project before doing it on something precious….but I love the technique.
Don't mind that your videos are a bit longer. You're explenation is well worth it. Love how patiently you explain every move you make and to what is worth paying attention to. Thank you Ceri really love watching you
I love your idea of gluing 2 pages together. Genius! I broke out a dictionary that I have been harvesting from and using your project in this video for inspiration. Your page is just beautiful!! 🤩
Thanks for sharing your techniques with us. I had never seen using the plastic wrap over the napkin before and I definitely will use that in the future. No more torn napkins!
Thank you Kathy just remember don’t brush any glue over the top of the napkin until after you’ve smoothed it with plastic wrap or the plastic wrap will stick.
This is just gorgeous Ceri. I learned a lot watching you create. Thank you for sharing. It is a true mixed media with so many elements layered on. The depth and colours are wonderful.
This is a very informative video. I am a beginner with lots of questions about what I don’t know about design and color. I keep a notebook ready when I watch your videos because they are so full of information that is very helpful for me.
Perfection is a curse when creating, IMO. It takes determination, I know, to leave it behind. I love to collage because I believe it gets me out of my comfort zone. Your video IS quite helpful because it’s a bit of a different approach and inspires me, so I Do TYFS!
Thank you so much Ceri, I really really enjoyed watching you create this Amazing and Gorgeous double page spread!!!!!!!!!!! It’s really really incredible and Stunning Too. Thank you for all your kindness and knowledge that you impart to us all. I really really love ❤️ this, it’s really really Awesome. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags. P.S. I really really hope you do carry this on, it’s Brilliant xxx Mags
Ceri, you are a joy to watch! I don't do mixed media but I'm starting to wonder if maybe I could 🤔? I would need to relax and let go... that's the hard part! Lol. Thank you for explaining why you do things. I would be watching and wondering "why did he do that? " and bam.. you answered my question! I'm so glad Gayle suggested looking you up! You are a treasure! TFS!
Thank you Geri, I started mixed media purely to experiment with colours and textures, then I sort of found my rhythm/style and I’ve been doing it ever since. I do watch lots of other UA-cam artists working in mixed media so I can learn more skills and I find inspiration in their work which then sparks my imagination for my own creations.
This art journal series is very enjoyable Ceri. You are a relatable crafter and express all the thoughts and feelings we viewers have when we craft. I love the industrial and masculine pages I've seen in some of your other work, also the sea inspired themes so I hope you do a lot of those type of pages.
Thank you Kathy, I love the ocean so you’ll certainly see more of those, I only do industrial type pages when the muse takes me I find if I force myself to create those type of pages or steampunk pages they always turn out too neat and planned.
I really enjoy watching you collage. I had not thought to stamp on my tissue pattern paper, now inspired to do this. Shall also play with my acrylic inks. I really like your completed journal spread.
LOVE mixed media. My very first pieces were mixed media. Maremi (Marta) from Ireland was my very first inspirational video at the beginning of the pandemic. Thanks Ceri, I love how detail oriented you are.
Oh Ceri! That is so gorgeous! I really, really enjoyed watching you create this beautiful piece of art. I need to go back and watch how you made the book, I thought I watched it before but I don’t remember. Fabulous work! 😊🌸😊
