I am a 50 year old American metalhead ... & I fell in love with this band without knowing exactly why. Oh, of course the girls are adorable, talented & strong, the band is always world class & the production is truly second to none... but the real reason I fell so far into the foxhole is simple: their songs make me happy. My 1-year-old son had a hard time falling asleep every night. We tried a lot of different methods to get him asleep but none of those really worked out.
One night I was so exhausted, for some reason I started humming this song. He fell asleep in 2 minutes.

Im 62 year old Navy Veteran Oh man, I stumbled on them and was blown away. I was stationed in Japan and grew to understand the culture. Baby Metal fits most of the best things about them as a people. Very exciting, energetic, syncretized, cute little school girls. The band kicks a$$ as well. So much talent and soul is projected outward you can feel it....
And all gone by December 31, 2017. Never to be seen again, other that the old OG videos. So sad.

This is above and beyond what I had initially expected from this band.
What I find interesting about them is they have not settled on a style. They continue to explore the metal genre with their music, and in this case, will resort to singing in English to better connect with their audience. In an interview with KOBAMETAL, he mentioned that they might do a song in Spanish, if it was appropriate for the song.
I love this too. There's a huge variety of styles on display.

This song is beautiful in every way. I’m usually headbanging and going nuts, but when I hear this side of babymetal, you really get the essence of this truly revolutionary band. This song also hits hard because this is a song for our fanbase (the one), and this was Yui’s last song with them, so I cry every time I hear this. Babymetal has truly influenced me in a way no band has ever done, and I hope Yui can come back one day.

The group's name "Babymetal" was never meant to reflect their young ages. It was intended to signify a rebirth of metal music through Babymetal's own created sub-genre, kawaii metal.

TheHutch Actually, it is, but not in the way I think you think it is. When written in Japanese, the words "Babymetal" and "Heavy Metal" are almost identical. The only difference being a slanted " on the first character being added to mean "Babymetal" where the absence of that slanted " on the first character means "Heavy metal". A pun in the most obviously simple of ways.

This is my first post ever on yt (but i use it since the early days), otherwise i just consume and never share my opinion on any matter, but i have to write this: I'm 37yo, stubborn, narrow-minded, my worldview would be best described as misanthropic, i never belonged to anyone or anything and i have done so many things wrong that i have lost count. Most of the time i rather feel like a monstrosity then a human, BUT, listening to this band and their music made me reflect on my view of live, made me think about the emotions a barely had for the last dacade. Maybe their is a place i can be part of, maybe their is hope, maybe their can be happiness and maybe i'm not the monster i think i am. Listening to Babymetal, their astonishing play, their wonderful vocals, makes me feel happy. A feeling i can barely endure in any other situation. Therefore you have my eternal gratitude!

New BABYMETAL fan. I'm a 55 yr old musician and been rockin' since I was 15. How can any metalhead not love and accept these girls? They're killing it! Gotta look after our little Metal sisters in this big Metal world!
It was pretty cute to follow this band updates through their first tour in europe. Couse the girls didn't fake it out, in the interviews said that they were not metalheads when they were called to be part of Babymetal, and seeing how the metal comunity welcomed them was so shocking, and that did actually get them into metal.
For me that was just the point when I started to think that not everything is lost in the metal fanbase and that we have become less close minded.
True that! I just rounded up about 3 weekends researching their history etc, all the way back to Sakura Gakuin, spending every waking moment watching videos and reading up. Their story is amazing . For 3 LITTLE girls who didn't even know what metal was, they've stepped up and kicked it in the ass. Now Kobayashi, on the other hand, though he liked metal music, seemed to miss the point on several concepts of metal music and the fan base, but over the 7 years BM has been at this, he's adjusted the music and "the method" so BM seems to now (well, since 2014, in my mind) be on a proper path to become "legends" (no pun intended!). It gave me huge amounts of joy to see the heavy-hitters and Godfathers of the industry step up and accept BM. The video of Chad of RHCP and the birthday cake for Su was CLASSIEST MOVE I'VE EVER SEEN!!!
When I saw the Gimme Choc video official, I wasn't sure which venue that was; Budokan? Tokyo Dome (prob)? But when they pulled back the camera during the 2nd reprise and showed the entire venue I was absolutely freakin' FLOORED at the size of the crowd!! I knew then there was something to this. Choko got my interest, Karate "set the hook", and Onedari Daisakusen just reeled me in. I was hooked for good!! I started my research after that and now i can't get enough. i'm very eclectic when it comes to styles and have been playing guitar for 40 years now and this is the first group in a long time (since I discovered Rush) to get me this excited! Kami Band is THE SHIZNET! more metal styles blended than I can count and Onedari; if that ain't Limp Bizkit influence I don't know what is!

This is a typical case of "don't judge a book by its cover".
Not that long ago, I would have, as many others probably, dismissed them as another Japanese quirk, straight out of some anime-fed pre-pubescent weaboo wild fantasies. Sure, young female idols singing about chocolate and dancing on mad guitars and hysterical drums, that's all fun and games, but it didn't look too serious...
... until you make the effort and dive deeper into their music. And boy, oh boy, was I rewarded. It was a big breath of fresh air, both a love letter to metal, hard rock and prog rock, but also a statement of Japanese musical creativity (that is, if you step outside the box of regular J-Pop - I'm talking about artists like Casiopea, Masayoshi Takanaka, Caspule, Perfume, m.o.v.e, Nujabes, X Japan, D_Drive or Hiroshi Sato), the musicians are monstruously fantastic, the production is incredible, not to mention the girls themselves (especially Suzuka, whose voice aged like fine wine - it was already pretty good on their first works, but here, it already got a lot better, and it went another two steps further on Monochrome). Actually, it's better than that: BM is probably what got me back into metal, and they're now in my Top 10 of the artists that influenced me.
By any means, the fact that it's the biggest Japanese music act to ever make big outside of its original boundaries, considering both the genre and the fact they sing almost exclusively in Japanese is a big statement, not mention the performers being women in a heavily masculine metal scene - that alone, added to their young age, commands huge respect. The only example I can think of "metal/hard rock/whatever non-English group that made that big" to compare BM to is Rammstein, and in my book, since I'm also a Rammstein aficionado, that's probably one of the best compliments I could address to BM.
It took me some time, but yes, I am a One, we are the One!

For me personally, I tend to "shy" away from ballad type songs from high energy musical groups (for example, "Every Rose" by Poison just made me want to spew...sorry to you fans of that song, but it was just awful!). Having said this, YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! This song is very underrated and under-viewed.

Epic! This song is a masterpiece in every respect. The raw emotion, the musicians and the voices, all perfect. It's a brilliant composition and I could go on but I don't want to bore. A new found favourite
Su-Metal's voice is so awesome
No doubt. All of them actually are possessed with talented voices, yet Su-Metal's voice is approaching diva level. So strong, so ranging, so controlled. Couple that with her dance abilities that most diva's do not display, and she is truly a formidable force.
Suzuka is pretty unique: I doubt very few diva's have the stage presence (like for example the Su-Metal 'death stare'/metal queen even as a 14 year old !), the dancing ability and singing ability combined. Suzuka doesn't (yet ?) have the vocal range of some of the top diva's, though. We'll have to wait and see if she can still develop that.
Most likely she can develop. I'm 22 soon and my singing voice is much better and different than it was when I was 19. There's always room for development^^ that being said, Suzuka is an amazing singer and very versatile, it just blows my mind. She's so good!
SailorSaturn1994 I really hope she can develop her singing even further, that would be amazing. I still can't believe how she was already signing on a stage with more than 20 000 people in front of her at the age of 10. Supposedly she was hardly nervous. But it does explain a lot. :-)

最初にメタルという先入観でギミチョコを聴いた時はユイモアの声が幼くて拒否感を抱いた。
でもこの曲ではスーちゃんのパワフルな美声に合う絶妙な天使の歌声に聴こえてどっぷりと嵌った。
それから知れば知る程ユイモアの存在が大きく見えベビメタはライブの方が楽しいというのも理解した。
自分的には完成度の高いCD音源の方を好む傾向にあるが、ベビメタはその逆を楽しませてくれる唯一の存在になっている。
そんな中この曲だけは映像無しでも感動出来る最高の楽曲だと思うし、自分の中では間違いなく10本指に入る名作ですね。

I would be happy to see that as well. I would also be happy to see Perfume's "Tokyo Girl" as the anthem. Yet, there are a few years between now and then, so something even more impressive and appropriate may present itself in that time.
Multiple band/ group can perform at the Olympics right? Even if something else happen there is still spots left for Babymetal since they are the the first Japanese group who actually gain success overseas.

+sexy mochi - Freak accident. On Dec.30, Mikio fell off a platform while stargazing (his other hobby besides guitar). He died Jan.5th, leaving behind his wife and two daughters whom he adored and talked about constantly.

I think you deserve to know their history so lets start with sakura gaukin that is where the trio first started, where they were making like a show about school girls i think and just how they deal with stuff and one time i think i cant fully remember but i think they made a band and fans of sakura gaukin really loved the band so they turned the band into an actual band creating baby metal

All of their performances are perfection. The only way to get that perfection is with lots of very hard work...rehearsing. I can't escape the feeling that all that hard work is forced upon them. Since when do children volunteer to give 110 percent?
+View This -- Yui is a natural perfectionist. Their choreographer Mikiko has said Su is literally incapable of *_not_* giving 110% once the music is on. Saying they're "forced" is, well, forcing it a bit. That's just how they've always been. Moa by comparison is kinda lazy, but she likes to 1-up Yui.
Nearly all Japanese students learn English to a certain point in their school career. Doesn't make singing in your second language any less difficult though.

I thought they were a neat gimmick when I first heard Gimmie Chocolate - easy to dismiss - but after listening to their other songs, they're a legit good band. The music holds up on its own merit, even once you get past the initial novelty of three cute Japanese girls playing in front of a metal band. Really cool.
+kalathi I think with most Japanese music, you never fully 'get it'. I appreciate this girls voice a lot more now that she's sung something in English, it's just easier to understand her vocal range. I liked her voice somewhat before but I literally never know if I'm hearing sub-par or great when I listen to a Japanese song since I don't know Japanese.

While I am in the process of learning Japanese and can understand some of the song- I dont think you need to understand it to come to the conclusion that the lead singer is a wonderful vocalist. Yes, understanding the lyrical content would let you see that they can write beautiful lyrics. But I think not being able to understand whats said lets you focus more of the tone of the vocals rather than the content. aka it makes you pay more attention to musicality of the song.
But yeah, hearing something in a language you understand makes things a lot easier. Also the guitars are amazing xD

Fabian lister Yeah, I understand your view on it too. To me, I guess it's words. When you hear something being sung in your own language you can clearly tell if it's off, but when I hear another language, how do I know if they're butchering something? I don't, and it's at that point I don't know whether they're truly good or not. To me they might sound great, but to someone who speaks their language it could be trash.
Not to say the vocalist here is bad, I know she's good, it's just hard to determine how good in respect to what I'm on about.
Giving her English words, it's easier for me to say "Yeah, how she's performing this is good" compared to "This sounds good.". You come to appreciate it a little more.
It's something you will definitely see on these talent shows, people hit hard and otherwise crash in parts of a song. Man I can't even explain what I'm trying to say properly lol.

I love the girls (how can anyone not?), but sometimes I don't think the Kami Band gets enough credit, even though without them BM would just be three cute and talented girls singing and dancing. Particularly, the drumming in THE ONE is phenomenal.

I have to agree a little bit if u watch anything that is pro shot 99% of it is on the girls. They should show off a little more of the band. Granted they get there solos but they are too good to not get more.
