I think this is a great idea that someone who works with drivers in an office setting, goes home every night, sits down and has dinner with his or her family and has more time to relax at home actually goes out with a driver and experiences the road life with another driver. This should be part of the training videos that ALL office employees including payroll should watch.
I'll consider driving for Knight. I Like the way they encourage drivers to take their breaks at company terminals instead of regular truck stops to have a sense of security. And Knight has good equipment and good top of the line trucks. so count me in.
As a 20+ year veteran of the trucking industry and a video producer, I have to say good job Knight. You have the bravado to put forth the initiative to combine office personnel and drivers on the front lines AND video the journey. This is something that the trucking industry is slow to respond to. This is how you recruit in 2016. I know how much time and effort is needed in this type of video. Whoever you have paid to shoot and edit this just earned their paycheck 100% Good job all the way around...
I like that you are putting out these videos. I find them entertaining and informative. For me it brings awareness to what truckers have to go through and brings awareness to their daily lives.
As a former trucker and a former Knight driver, I really appreciate what this guy did. This should be mandatory for all dispatchers and most upper leadership as well. There is nothing worse than being stuck with a immature dispatcher that obviously has never left home trying to tell you about certain things out on the road. It's good to walk a mile in the shoes of those you will have so much control over. I really enjoyed my time with Knight so it doesn't really surprise me that someone in this good trucking company would do this. Good people make for a good company.
I have done this and it is a hard life away from wife and, in my case, small children. It was many years ago but I still remember how much I enjoyed driving over the road and I do miss it, but I could not do what I did then, I've gotten older and much softer.. Much kudos to the men and women making our deliveries so that we can enjoy life!
I think this is a great thing for a company to do, trucking or other wise. Maybe bringing drivers into the office for a day or two would be a good experience also.
What a great video. I like the fact management is getting in the trucks and running with their drivers. If you have been a driver and went into management that's great. Just NEVER forget your roots and treat drivers with the respect they deserve. There is no perfect company and no perfect driver, so don't criticize the company or driver. I drove for 15 years and went into the fire service for better money and to be home more. Retirement is just around the corner and I will most likely go back to driving. Driving is the best job I ever had and I would be willing to give Knight a try, especially if the benefits are good and it looks like they might be. Great videos!
Thank you for taking the time to write this incredible message. You are 100 % right about all of it. When you reach retirement and are considering getting back into a truck we would love to chat with you about how we can help you do that.
Super Great Video. I've spent over 350 hours of research into Trucking, and I'm really hoping to have all of my affairs in order, my DOT Medical Card, and CDL Permit by, at the latest, the 2nd week of April 2020 when hopefully arriving at Knight ready to start Training for my CDL. Seems like a Great company, and I want to be a part of the Knight family. After all my exhaustive research, at this point, Knight is my final decision without a doubt.
that was pretty cool! I always wanted to see the tables turned, and wow! I have to say, kinda makes me look at knight differently, like they actually care. Keep up the good work knight Corp! Take care of them drivers! God bless y'all!
Only my second episode watched and really enjoyed it. Can't wait to watch more. I haven't watched TV in more than 5 years now and I prefer to watch the content on UA-cam . Much more unique content and you can find anything you want along with surprises like this channel I found today. Peace from New Hampshire.
It's been over 9 years since I drove a truck. All that Time the thought of returning to trucking has faded but trucking is still in my blood and despite what some people think, I deserve a second chance. My first experience on the road I made some mistakes but I'm willing to learn the lessons and put them to good use. I want to do it again and work towards a blessed career.
Im in Las Vegas. I just applied to Knight. Hope they call me back soon. Im excited for my first Class A job. This video is very informative. Thanks guys!
When I drove for SNI, they didn't change the mattresses. I had one that had a 2' round brown spot in the middle and turned it over. That side was dirty too, but, not as bad.
Great vid, love watching you guys in USA. As a European truck driver we don’t have it as good as you. We have to deal with much more stringent driving hours & regulations. Companies that treat drivers like dirt, smaller trucks, and half the pay you guys get. I’d love to do a few years in USA.
I heard about knight and Swift merging together. I trust in the Knight brother's ability and business skills to attract new drivers. I also have considered Swift as well. But I'm more drawn towards Knight. And I will put in the effort and determination to be a good, safe driver, and establish a bond between me and my driver manager/dispatcher. And I believe The knight Brothers can improve Swift and make her a better carrier and they do have a flock of good drivers to do it.
Well done clip Knight !! You are to be commended for your attempts to create a more friendly environment . Its good seeing the admin types getting putting themselves in the drivers culture ! It will hopefully give them a higher appreciation of the drivers who keep things moving !
T.J was an awesome terminal manager, who went to bat for me a few times. the driver managers out of that slc terminal weren't as good. i really wish they would have done this when i drove for them, especially when i was in their lease/purchase program. things might have went differently if they had. I always got the feeling that very few of them that were higher than drivers actually cared. T.J was one of them.
I don't recommend eating big meals like that if you're a truck driver, u don't need all that food, you don't do anything but drive, all that food is unnecessary.
All FMCSA rule/law proposers should have to ride along before pushing these almost draconian Elogs, mandates, etc. They really should require FMCSA's to ride annually like CE's in school. Ijs. Would be nice.
I drove for Knight back in 20011 for several years. I was a trainer for one year. Knight is now Merged with Swift and it's quality of Drivers has gone down a lot. As for not being just another driver, well that is BS!!! When I left to work for another Truck company, I am pretty sure there was already another person driving the POS rig I had when I was with Knight/ Swift Transportation.

Ok today I had my opinion of who is "just a driver" proven to me, so here's where your vp's viewpoint should IMO change. I had one of my own drivers blow past me in a shippers yard because he was frustrated he couldn't turn around and back in where he was at, then he clogged the whole shippers yard up because he couldn't back up, to top it all off he stole my assigned empty from the shipper without telling them! That to me is just a driver that doesn't care about any other driver!!!! A professional drive is patient, considerate, and helps other drivers out! What was funny to me was that driver got reported by me and the shipper and had to bring the trailer back to me!!! :) I was on a dedicated drop and hook run to this shipper. So that to me is what the difference is between just a driver and a professional driver is.
The company I worked for told me flat out if you can't put 750-800 miles a day behind your belt you're no good to us lol. I sometimes miss working there, wide open Petes and Kw's. Some people would call it a cowboy outfit but hell I made good money and had fun. But all good things come to a end and my wife had twins so working local now
+Ed D Do you like to be paid for the work you do? Do you like chasing down empties? They just settled a class action lawsuit: where it was determined they screwed drivers out of money, I received a settlement check. You'd think they'd learn: but no, they screwed me on pay! Told me one thing and did the opposite. Go work for them and see for yourself...
+Ed D I agree! However, in my case: I am telling you that they actually Did Not, let me repeat: Did Not pay me for what I did...they told me to do something, which I did, and then I received no pay for it period. So they literally stole money from me: That is why I am no longer there! I'm an employee: Not a volunteer, so yeah, I have an expectation to be compensated for the work that I do! By the way, I can prove all of my assertions. Anyway, if you want to work for a good company, knight transportation: Should be avoided if you want to be paid for an honest days work!
I am considering coming to get my CDL at Phoenix and then drive for Knight! This is going to be a later in life career and lifestyle change. Any secrets or hints on how to succeed in this goal.
When you first go/report there for training? Can you start at the terminal of choice ? Or does it go by closest terminal to the zip code on your drivers license? Great Video by the way very informative, detailed, well done! Congratulations too the person/persons that made it .😊
quick question what is it like for experienced drivers who are going to knight transportation? normally im out about 3 month then got home fo like 3 to 5 days.
Drove by the Fontana terminal today, I thought I could just walk in and look around. Nope! What was I thinking? Just excited That's all.....can't wait to earn my CDL
I've enjoyed driving jobs in England. Not semis but LWB Mercedes sprinter vans. Used to drive the length of the country and sleep in the van regularly. Was good fun whilst I did it, but what stopped me going back to it was the heavy heavy manual lifting that came with it. Getting too old for what they expected. Good way to see your country and different scenery. Take a mate or even more fun a girlfriend !! 😁🙏
at 5:44 mns Hum !!! This driver should keep both hands on the wheel, he n; not in his living room to think about what to do! If an obstacle that stands before him he can not avoid it!
Only way you can get me with knight is if all their trucks come with a fridge, inverter, and APU. I had none of that when I started with Werner and now I have all 3 and I'm spoiled now lol. And 400 miles per day? I usually drive about 550-630 miles per day depending on the load
I'm quite sure if you only drive 400 miles a day in good weather, I'm sure your driver manager would tell you that they expect more(much more). I think knights trucks are governed at 65mph, you can drive 600+ miles a shift. I drove for a company that had their trucks governed at 65mph, and I consistently drove 625 miles(or more) each shift(weather permitting)
There is no way I would want to be out on the road and only getting home once a month. Forget that! I drove a class eight semi for six months hauling a utility tractor in the top dresser and a Kubota front and loader doing sports turf maintenance and it was extremely stressful

We agree. We have learned so much by going on tons of ride-a-alongs just like this.
This is a lot better recruiting tool than that Knight driver with his own channel yelling and screaming about coming to work for Knight. Nice video.
If you believe this your a moron. It's all set up. That guy yelling and screaming told the truth. But don't believe us, go work there. 🤣

Because the video makes it seem like the best place to do so.
Great company to work for. Treat you with respect that’s the most important. I’m glad I choose knight.
Do they have team drivers?
I think this is a great thing for a company to do, trucking or other wise. Maybe bringing drivers into the office for a day or two would be a good experience also.
I just started watching this channel. So far I'm impressed. I'm excited. I start at Knight in Columbus Ohio in 7 more days
Good luck my guy 💯
Absolutely love this type of fly on the wall type documentary where the boss or other members of the company go and see what goes on!
Glad you enjoyed the video Marc

We have a school. When ever your ready to start your adventure.
Do I need my CDL permit first and do Knight offer training in Florida?
Go to a private trucking school. Then find a better company than knightmare to work for.

I think knights trucks are governed at 65mph, you can drive 600+ miles a shift. I drove for a company that had their trucks governed at 65mph, and I consistently drove 625 miles(or more) each shift(weather permitting)
What he was saying is that he expects to average 400 miles a day for all days in the month or 12k a month typically. (including downtime/hometime etc)
There is no way I would want to be out on the road and only getting home once a month. Forget that! I drove a class eight semi for six months hauling a utility tractor in the top dresser and a Kubota front and loader doing sports turf maintenance and it was extremely stressful
