Born in and live in Los Angeles. God isn't punishing Los Angeles. I'm seeing the face of God right now in the faces of people who are fighting these fires and cleaning up debris and taking in and caring for the pets of people who lost their homes. People are cooking meals and feeding people affected by the disaster. People are making art and selling it to raise money for disaster victims. I'm seeing so much caring and generosity and concern and people doing anything and everything they can to try to help complete strangers. That is God's work. Blessing and thanks to all of the people trying to help people survive and recover from this.
Amen. You are so right. I live in Orange County, but I lived& worked in parts of Los Angeles for 8 years. I have watched more local news than I have in quite awhile fixated on the human stories of caring & selflessness. Many victims are brothers and sisters in Christ; just like many in Gaza. Not that it should matter what they believe of course, but it seems like it’s the Christians who throw those judgment daggers.
“So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.” Galatians 6:10

I read this in a videos comments recently.
"If you and God are always in agreement, you only worship yourself."
Those who take delight in the troubles of “others” seem to lack some humanity. God is close to the brokenhearted.
Amen 🙏 I still struggle with anger and hate. It’s not good to wish ill on others.
@@LeolaTheElf Struggle? Wow, don’t we all. But it’s a good struggle and means we are aware.

I'm reminded of Jesus warning his followers about the tribulations to come. He pointed out, with sadness and compassion, that it would be especially hard for pregnant and nursing women. I'm also reminded of how Jesus stood before Jerusalem, which had time and time again rejected God's ways and his messengers, and which Jesus knew would soon be destroyed by the Roman Empire; and Jesus said, again with sadness and compassion, "How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me!"
@@spirals73-s4c now my hip hurts! Thanks. It is like wrestling.
I quit going to church a long time ago because I did not like the church’s bashing other churches. Churches saying they are the only ones going to heaven. Becoming so political and twisting the Bible verses to suit their beliefs instead of reading it verbatim. I am so grateful I found you! You are my new church! Glad to listen to a true Christian leader! I feel so at peace! Thank you for spreading the love ❤

Oh, Rev Ed! Your crazy, sarcastic, self-deprecating humor had me guffawing out loud and disturbing the cats! It was a bright moment to beat back the depression I suffer from at this time of year, and made 1,000 times worse because of the hatefulness of the Felon in Chief who had his friend buy him the presidency. I value your talks, and especially any humor you add. Stay safe because we need your wisdom.
💙💙 I thank you for your comment I am mourning the inauguration at least your comment did uplift me
It's a tragic day for humanity.
I think of all of the humble, hard working people in LA who are suffering the same, or worse, than the millionaires. I'm so glad you're speaking out that this is NOT God's punishment! We need to feel empathy and compassion for ALL those who are suffering! May these hard hearts break open to the love that is so desperately needed in this world.
Amen.
Thank you!!!
Suffering is suffering. It doesn't discriminate.
We must stay strong in our resolve and shine our light of love and compassion into the darkness of hate and indifference!
Jesus said: I am the Light of the World!!!
@@HenriettaHudson-we4wv and we are his mirrors to the world reflecting the light if we do what Jesus preached.
It's called weather people! Weather happens! It doesn't have an agenda.

A few Catholics went to heaven and were celebrating. They were making some noise when an angel told them to hush. When asked why the angel said the Baptists on the other side of the wall think they’re the only ones up here.
Pious People often ask "Why can't God just punish all the sinners of the world?" My question to them is "Who's to say he wouldn't start with you."
As Jesus said, "he without sin shall cast the first stone", or something like that.
@roncurilla6991 yeah, I heard it from an elder at my church. Definitely a modern version of what Jesus said. But I had to leave the mormon church because it is too enthralled with dogma, like many other churches. I believe that is the downfall of any religion, dogma over virtue is a one-way ticket to hell.
Right on
Thank you!!!
@spirals73-s4c just bring up the Jesus contingency. First stone throw, and even he didn't throw. Get them to tell you what the message is in that passage. Just a tip if it comes up.
Thank you Rev Ed. People can so easily imagine God destroying others but not knowing that God can forgive us for our sins.
I agree with you that these people are projecting their hate upon others. Thank-you for a small bit of sanity in our out of control world !
I got banned from commenting on John McArthurs sermon site:
So what is God punishing when he allows hurricanes to hit red states? Let’s talk about that…
Thanks for getting this message out. Ascribing horrors to God is one way to use his name in vain. Consider that..
💯
Right ascribing horrors on God’s character is blasphemous. He is present in pain and suffering, not smiling at the pain and suffering.
Sounds like good trouble to me
@@ariaanneprice thanks, I hadn’t thought of that. I can tell you are a true encourager!

I live in an area with a decent number of MAGAT Christians, but there are several churches with congregations with Jesus Followers, too. If someone tells me within five min of meeting me that they are a Proud Christian, I can usually tell who they voted for and who they hate. The Jesus Followers are a lot harder to pick out because they aren't helping 'in the name of Christ.' They are helping because they are decent people who don't care who they are working alongside. Jesus doesn't really enter into their decisions. A good person doesn't need rules.
Of course, for some, Jesus may enter into decisions, but they let their actions serve others and God without announcing their religion.
This was a subject I had a hard time telling my dad. Everytime we get into a discussion that’s biblically related. He always ask me why or am I against God. And I keep telling him, it’s not God I’m against, it’s the hypocrisy, the zealotry, the joy others have over people suffering, the gloating, the ill or poor leadership. That is what I’m against.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the “Christians” that agree with those that say California shouldn’t get aid. Are the same “Christians” that asked for aid when their state was in trouble.
Well no-one is without sin so I guess we are all deserving of punishment.God knows our hearts.
How true! We all need to humbly repent and "Go and sin no more", like Jesus advised. 😊
I believe God is weeping when these catastrophic events happen . God gave us free will and we have created this climate crisis. Yes Rev Ed- they are projecting their hatred onto God
Thank you!!

@pamelalyon3264 Thank you !
Isn't two thousand years enough time to grow up and hear the message?
If that's the case He must be really angry with the Bible Belt.
So exhausting and heart breaking. May our arms embrace all those who have lost their homes, belongings, pets or loved ones. May suffering be met with love and comfort, may humanity awaken to our birthright as beloved of our Divine Source and see the Christ in each other. How could a loving Christian delight in the imagined punishment of a beloved of God?! When will we learn that Love is The Way, not conviction and blame and shame of ourselves or others. Of course Sin (missing the mark) is painful, making mistakes in life can be humiliating. Our job is to be there and remind them that they are forgiven completely in every moment of realization of the Truth of Love/God.
“So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.” Galatians 6:10
Thank you, Rev Ed. I am so tired of the twisted scripture n hypocrisy. Bless you.
My nice died in a storm 11 years ago. Her mum (my sister in law - devout catholic) could not fathom how God could let this happen. The more we understood about my nieces last days we realised God was there. In the people that told them not to sail out, that warned them of the storm, the people who helped searching and carry their story to this day in their hearts. Without storms, volcanos, floods, bacteria and co, life on earth would most likely not exist, yes they are terrible and we need to do more to understand and respect these forces of nature but they are not punishment. God it is in our love and kindness towards eachother and towards our environment. We are all sinners in one way or another in the same way as we are God's children.
Thank you!!!!
If I’m not mistaken, isn’t there something about God not giving us more than we can handle? What you describe about your niece’s death seems so true. If there were no sorrows on earth, we would quickly take for granted all the joys. That’s how we humans are in our frailty. Without trials we would never learn compassion. We’d be as selfish infants in adult bodies.
@maudieg8459 ICorinthians 10:13 says God won't allow temptation that is beyond our ability to bear, but will provide a way to overcome temptations.
Much needed and important message. Rev. Ed has it correct. Even though a certain group of people will, probably, find excuses to claim the opposite.

I've also heard the fire disaster can somehow be blamed on "lesbian firefighters." Whether they are saying its divine punishment for a "sinful lifestyle" or women/gay people have no business in the fire service, I dont know. But I do know my daughter who happens to be gay has been a firefighter for five years and is held to the same standards as the men. One of her first calls was to an auto accident. As she walked up to the car, she saw a sticker on it, "marriage is one man one woman." What did she do? Get her first experience with the jaws of life to rescue those people from a car which had slammed into a tree

In addition to the individual Christians who have lost their homes and their neighborhoods, many houses of worship were destroyed. including the beautiful and historic St. Mark's Episcopal Church. The current rector is a woman I've known since she was in elementary school and a friend of my brother's. Please pray for her as she deals with all the emotional and social and practical issues of losing the church buildings (insurance, rebuilding decisions, etc.), and at the same time ministers to her church members who've lost their homes. So many needs, so many opportunities to be the hands and feet and voice of Jesus. Her own home, mercifully, was spared, although they still are unable to return to it. Thanks.
A statue of the Blessed Mother of Christ survived the Inferno. A tabernacle survived in a burned Catholic Church in LA. I don't know if the consecrated host was inside of the tabernacle?
This is not "God's " work. Don't be stupid. Pointing fingers and judging others for this catastrophe is way out of line. Those who would be mean-spirited about withholding help need an attitude adjustment. Do you hear, GOP/Magas?
@@loripeterson495 The people do deserve help. So do the folks in NC. They have been for the government to help them for many months. Some people in NC who lost their homes in the flood are still living in tents! They have no running water or electricity. California will probably be treated like the folks in NC.

I see God as a great tester and teacher. First part: testing me, you, everyone else how we respond and if we follow the Word of God ( the bible.. and Jesus Christ). I did get irked and sad when i saw those horrendous comments from people claiming to be "christians" while wishing harm, cheering and being happy that california is having to deal with fires. Every day i am reminded of the "but Lord didnt we cast out demons, promoted the gospel and prophesized in your Name? and then Jesus said " begone you workers of inequity i never knew you. This is why i am trying to be humble and repentant, looking at my actions constantly and see if they are in line with Christ and the bible while asking God for wisdom, revelation and insight on how to change things that He doesnt approve of because in the end its HIS will not my will. Reflection and correction.
Second part: great teacher. He exposes our flaws, where we need to be better, work on and so on. That is why i pray for those "christians" that say these vile things. They have hidden idols and do not put God first nor listen to His commandments. I pray those get revealed to these people and that they return back to Jesus.
Jesus said: I am the Light of the World!!! Jesus also said: In this world, you will have trouble; but, take heart, for I have overcome the world!!!

I love how the the fire only selectively burned just the Democrat sinners' homes and left those the "righteous" Republican homes untouched..... Oh wait, right, the fire just burned everything in it's path down, so maybe it was God. He's kinda well known for the whole, "screw the innocents, everyone must be punished" sort of wrath.

Growing up in Florida, my family alternated between Southern Baptist and United Methodist, (Dad/Mom). The SB pastors all preached fire and brimstone and nothing about the love and redemption of God. The last pastor at the SB church constantly preached that any illness or hardship was due to the sin in your life. That was his message until his wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Then his message turned to Satan afflicting the faithful. My family left that church soon after and I do not know the outcome. I hope and pray that Mrs. Pastor recovered and had a full and blessed life. I don't know. Rev. Ed, thank you as always for such inspired and informative outlook on life. I know this is on a tangent but......

Some people want God to be as petty as they are.
Nothing new. Look how jealous and vindictive the Roman and Greek gods were.
All religions struggle with why bad things happen to good people for no reason. Blaming the victim affords some respite from the helplessness of empathy and the cognitive dissonance of your faith in conflict with reality. If they deserve what is happening, I can continue to believe that that will not happen to me.
Thank you! I keep seeing people posting "God is punishing Hollywood!" And i am thinking "Did the Lord call you up personally or are you just throwing your hate onto the almighty?" This kind of question gets on my nerves. So God punishes liberal areas after disasters. But when disasters happen end republican areas, that question is never asked.
Did god punish north carolina mountains? How about hurricanes they hit florida?
They are busy looking for the mote in others' eyes and miss the log in their own.
Thank you Reverend
Thank you Rev Ed for reminding us of the great logic in the true teachings of Christ. I’ve always been amazed by the way religions can twist or completely ignore those parts of Christian doctrine that don’t fit into their world view. As one not ascribing to any particular religious doctrine, I am familiar enough with the Christian Bible to know that some of Jesus’ pronouncements are at odds with the hate and revenge ideas of the types of people supporting the internet posting you discussed.
Thanks for the truth you tell!
I commented on one of Rev Trevors' earlier YT shows (I think from yesterday or the day before) that my son spoke with a man while riding in a van, to of all places, a church service. This man told my son that the southern California fires were God's wrath because southern California was full of democrats. My son's retelling of this conversation deeply saddened me, but it also angered me. It angered me because my son has a neurological disorder that, for lack of a better word, "allows" him to be easily deceived or misled. I did my best to explain to Michael that this simply wasn't true, and i believe that he understood this, as evidenced by his proclamation that northern California, in a deeply red county, also suffered from a fire that claimed the lives of 85 people. A point that he brought up with this person during their van ride.
I will, along with my son's father continue to counter what our son hears with truth. Other than that, we having nothing else, really.
Probably no more than God punishing the Bible Belt with the hurricane and tornadoes.
You are so right.
Why do people think they know who needs to be punished and when.
God rules with His unchanging hand and a forgiving heart.
People who worship a human should not talk about other people's sins
Please keep teaching love for others and forgiveness to one another.

My sister and I had this discussion about rating sin….shes insistent she has to hammer the gays….she voted Orange….but she believes being gay is at the top of the heap for being evil. Not Orange Things infidelity, his claim to be Christian whilst saying he’s never asked for forgiveness for anything, he’s never done anything wrong. So I do feel safe saying Orange is not Christian. And yet she worships Orange. I’ll never get it.
I. find it very creepy so many adults think about other adults private sex lives and they think others are the problem in society. Your sister needs a hobby. There are many areas of life to help. Food banks, dog shelters, big brothers/sisters etc. I wish you peace.
@ right? Honestly, I’ve struggled to talk to her at this point. I guess I want to see how bad this is before I’m real normal feeling again. For me, like you, I don’t want to visualize anything people are doing in their beds. Good grief.
My great nephew came out a few days ago…he’s so talented on the piano…he’s also very flamboyant…a born entertainer if ever there was one! She called to moan about his coming out on Facebook. He’s found the love of his life….how can anyone not be happy for him? “Well it is sin”….oh man….i don’t want her to disown me, but she voted for that orange abomination! I controlled my yap….i had to find a reason for getting off the phone quick. Sad to think Orange would be delighted to know he’s breaking up families….almost. She will never be convinced ….shes close to worshipping that thing.
I've had to stop supporting Rev Billy Graham's son, Franklin Graham. Who supports Trump, but says that America has to repent of homosexuality and abortion!!!
I am almost 80.
My only real concern about the sex lives of law abiding adults is that I hope it makes them happy, whatever they do or don't do. I might have a good-natured chuckle occasionally with friends, about 'mechanics', when we've shared a bottle of wine!
I often wonder about those who castigate and condemn whatever version of 'immorality' is 'today's special', with such vituperative hatred.
Why be so desperately hateful about _love?_
I have a lingering suspicion that many of them are *jealous* - and fearful - of what they are condemning so harshly.
I dont even know what to say to ppl who hate so much, take joy in other ppls pain. God help us, God have mercy on us. So sad.
I think what you said is all that needs saying…God help us and have mercy on us.
I know alot of people may not like this. But one thing that helped me was the theory of open theism.
I am not saying others should accept this process. But it helped me to understand why bad things happen in this world.
You are Right! In disasters the opportunities to serve God abounds. We can work our understanding of Christ's teachings through many rescue efforts to help even from a distance.
Good can and does come from disasters. People helping other people is an example. 😊
God, Earth, Universe are never vengeful. People are. To let go of our vengeful ways is the work of being here with each other.

If he’s punishing LA then he punished NC, he punished Florida, etc. it works both ways
I was always skeptical about a Christianity when I was a child but what really pushed me into atheism was reading up on the many gospels both gnostic and canonical and really just the Bible overall in how it can be very vague and can be interpreted in a number of ways and I found it troublesome god would allow his teachings to be so debateable and not explicit. You are right that there are Christians who are morally reprehensible people, but you can argue they are right and wrong using the same book depending on the passage you read or interpret.
I think you have a point about the vagueness of Scripture. Last night, I took part in a discussion where I noted three different perspectives on "Blessed are those who mourn.". However, I think such vagueness speaks to how God wants to relate to us: not as slaves or robots, but as God's children, friends, and co-creators, as managers of this earth. God wants us intelligent, thinking, creative, and yet also guided, inspired, and instructed by Scripture and by the Spirit.
Have you ever discussed a work of literature with others? You have an insight into the book, and then someone else says something that illuminates the work further with something you hadn't thought of. Your idea and/or their idea may even teach you something about how to live.
I recently read an article that said that deep spiritual ideas can only be expressed in metaphor, and that insistence upon strict literalism is no friend of faith.
Thank you again for a perfect perspective. We all need to be reminded of Gods perfect love. Amen!
