I remembered watching @bukola in 2019.
I didn’t know I will be working as software engineer today after teaching myself coding for two years.
Thanks a lot for your support here on UA-cam
Hello! Its been a while, but I'm happy to be back :) I literally never thought Google would have layoffs, but life will surprise you! How you are feeling after all the recent news of the tech layoffs?
Welcome back!
Google has a ton of money to retain everyone. It’s just corporate greedy to chase record profits
I am not in Tech but like you said every employee is replaceable.
Welcome back! I love your point about union. The points you mentioned about the layoffs are all great as well. Another thing I’ve been noticing is companies forcing RTO or else risk of laid off. It’s the new way to get people to quiet quit without severance and hire new people.
I'm not in the tech industry so I'm neutral with that sorry to hear you lost your gig, you're too good looking to be out of a job sweety!!!
I was so sad alot of my fave content creators were affected by the layoffs, I was so worried when I didn’t see your content pop up on my feed for a bit. 😭 So happy you’re good! All the best with everything 💕
My job was affected by a recent layoff at a tech company and it was a bummer but I also used the extra time to launch a UA-cam channel and really recharge and relax more 😊 also absolutely life-changing tip about putting your watch on your ankle during walking pad sessions!!! Thanks for sharing that!
Great video, I liked that you addressed the tech layoffs because some of these other influencers ... lol...let's just say they're not so straightforward. I am currently looking for customer success roles and having a hard time but I still feel like the right opportunity will come through. Keep bringing us realistic work/life UA-cam content, I love your channel Bukola!
goodluck with your job search
Very pleased to hear you endorse unionization. All workers need to unionize.
Na, start your own businesses. The company wants to break up with you. Why are you forcing a relationship?
Well people that you can just work a job and be fine you CAN'T. You must have something of your own. No matter how small... I'm a new developer and my aim is not to land a new tech job, A job will be nice and give me the income to fund my OWN projects. I have been let down way to much with work
Commies everywhere 🤡🤡🤡
@@saidalabed9417 Inshallah 🙏🏾
@@saidalabed9417 lmao at unions = commies. Slave mindset.
Yessss I love that you brought up unions but please also look into forming collectives! Take your skills and force the big companies to contract you all rather than employ you. There are already some tech collectives worth looking into. Workers Unite!
For any interested free lancers, here’s a conversation you might find interesting 😘 ua-cam.com/video/zWbB7aQF9ks/v-deo.html
I haven't heard about collectives, I'll definitely do more research on that!
Yaaas! Come through collective bargaining power!!
Wow, this video feels much closer and more personal. I'm glad you're still employed. Thanks for sharing your skin care routine!
Thank you so much!
I saw you at the CNBC videos firs and have followed you ever since. Your blogs are so refreshing and it’s so nice to be following someone with a similar background with “normal” topics outside of the entertainment industry or lavish black girl luxury aesthetic.
Welcome back, Bukola! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on what's happening out there.
My department and I got laid off back in June 2022 right before all the layoffs started. I was working at a digital marketing agency and boy did I learn those exact same things you’ve mentioned. I also learned I want my source of income to always come from me and me alone not a company, government, family or anyone else but me. I haven’t found a new role yet even tho I’ve been networking like crazy- since July 2022! As you said getting a job in this market at the moment is HARD!! However, It’s been going well but no job openings yet so I’ve been nurturing those connections so I can get my foot in the door when an opening comes. In addition to that, Im learning new skills, reading, obtaining knowledge, started a side hustle and slowly building a network behind me that I can tap into. That’s all we can do to make sure we won’t be in this position again. ❤
Good luck with your job search!
@@sdafergu thank you, Sarah!
I'm really happy to see your video pop up on my feed. Happy new year! Glad to see you survived the mass layoff.
Happy New Years Gift!!
Love ur content....so glad u survived the layoff season, ur such an inspiration 😘😘
thank you!!
Oh how much we have missed you back on UA-cam! So glad that you're back. Wishing you so much blessings, security and love!
So glad to know your role at Google is okay!
Thank you ❤️❤️
So glad to see that you’re doing ok!🙏🏾❤️
Great video, I like how you incorporated relevant topics in this vlog! Also, editing was on point 🔥
Zeem!
Thank you I really appreciate your comment!
I love the tip of having an emergency spending account or some type of savings. I know I do. You never know when you'll be in a bind and need that extra cash. Always be prepared for unfortunate events.
Ramsey Baby Steps. Works every time
Welcome back, I was looking forward to your next video. Salutations de Montréal 🇨🇦
I'm glad to see you survived girlie 😭
lol thank you! The day the news leaked, I definitely wasn't sure I would smh
Love your honesty, I missed your videos!!
As an tech job enthusiast, it's scaring hearing about these layoffs. Keep giving realistic content. I appreciate your content, Bukola
So happy to see your videos again!!
Glad to see your take on this. I’m about to start a tech bootcamp soon hopefully job positions will open back up again this year.
It'll all work out. The night doesn't last forever!!!!!
Hi. This is the first of your videos I have come across. Your skill with video and and your choice of music for this one are top notch. Now I'm subscribed and will definitely be checking more out.
Happy to see that you are well! ❤
This video takes a lot of effort, but it views effortless. Excellent production style too. New subscriber. Looking forward to watching more and getting ideas.
finally! i was waiting to see videos from you!
Aww Thank you! Finally back and I have plans to be more consistent!
Only 2 minutes in and I'm like, yes Avene! Their spf/moisturizer is so good for my dark skin. It's moisturizing, and melts in, with no weird white cast. The tech layoffs have also been kinda scary for me, especially as a junior backend dev, but I am 1 month away from 1 year at my company, and things are going pretty good. Your journey has def motivated me before, and during this time. In regards to layoffs I've been keeping in mind that we worker bees are seen as cogs in their machine, and can be disposed of, and replaced when necessary. :) I've known some amazing, and highly valued/loyal ppl let go during this time which has been an eye-opener.
Great to see you again Bukola. Hope you been good. ~*
Blessings abound. ~*
Obsessed with this vlog! I can listen to you all day long 😂
You were on mind mind when I heard about tech layoffs. Wishing you a great day😀
Aww thank you for thinking about me ❤❤
You are an inspiration 🥰 thank you for sharing!
Happy to see you still have a job and that you are preparing for in case they go crazy and lay you off and that you are advocating for unions and collective bargaining, because these companies ain't loyal!
A woman who goes to bed with a book never sleeps alone. Good literary chore!
it's assuring to hear that you weren't laid off. Ms. Bukola. I'm interested in dev advocate. hang in there. 💪🏻
It's great to hear you talk about unions!
I really love that your sharing the time.. it's really beautiful
Had to check out your vlog after seeing you on Casey's channel. Glad I did!
Most of all, congrats on getting married!
This vlog is everything finally UA-cam recommended someone I can relate too.
Awesome video as always Bukola.. also glad to know you were unaffected. #ThankGod
Work From Home crew lol.
The getting steps in is a struggle. I try to walk around my apt when I can.
Fleishman is in trouble is amazing. I cried at the end and I'm not even a parent 😭.
I like the narrative it tells about your older self looking at your younger self. As a recent 40 year old, it 👏hits👏 home 👏.
Loved Fleishman! Intense at times but loved the pivot in the last half
YES GIRL GET THOSE STEPS IN!!!
I relate so much to your after work evenings lol. Far too tired to do much but focus on unwinding for sure!
Right! I don’t how people have energy to do anything after 😂
Very nicely shot and edited. Did you say that you never have to go back to the office? It seems like a lot of companies have been forcing people to go back into the office.
Been waiting for your video for a while 😅
Aww! I really needed the break :) Hope you enjoy this new video!
Good to see you Bukola! Can you please share the brand for the desk treadmill and the desk itself (where can I get them?). I work from home too and it would be nice to get steps in! Thanks!
Your fan is here from Rural Zimbabwe.😁..we have missed you..
Hey!! Thanks for stopping by!
When you mentioned why there are no UNIONS. I’m currently studying HRM and in a comparative study we found out that the US runs a highly flexible labour market , that is most people are independent contractors . Honestly unions starting up again won’t be bad, but I think most workers have fear of employer suppression and a lot of workers are immigrants too.
That's really interesting! I never saw it that way, I really need to do more research about Unions
That is all intentional. Companies/corporations do not want employees to unionize. These businesses are shifting to the IC/gig market model because it's (1) cheaper and (2) they're not beholden to their employees in any way, shape, or form.
Like Elon Musk laying off all Union workers.
Why would you want to force a company to employ you?
Glad you’re safe in Google!
I was concerned about you lol. I'm glad you survived and glad you are back on the youtube
Your comment supporting unionization was 100%! 👏😃
Happy New year 🎆
Love the bonnet! :) Where'd you get yours from?
I'm trying to switch to tech. Sometimes I'm scared because I would be leaving a more stable health care job to work in a remote tech company
Thanks!
I haaaaatteee how little we move being at a desk. Really considering a walk pad.
Bukola is not a name, it is ❤
Thanks for sharing my friend
Do you prefer being a Developer advocate to software engineer?
I hope you felt that you had some sort of notice and could get a few things in order before it happened :/ Really sorry that the company treats its employees this way. You'll be fine, keep your chin up and keep going!
Off topic but your mic is insanely good
not the late-stage capitalism comment about your treadmill LOL. people are so detached from reality on the internet.
I loved the insights and thoughts that you shared during this video - so interesting to hear.
It is refreshing to hear from a well spoken, educated, motivated and overall healthy woman in a UA-cam video.
Well spoken 🙄. Please research why this is not a compliment
@@teaberry73 Well Spoken refers to a person who speaks in an educated and refined manner. It has nothing to do with sex, race or anything else. It is a completely neutral compliment. If you think otherwise, maybe you are part of a much larger problem.
@@How2BAMan No it really isn't. This goes in the same word pool as 'Articulate'. You are part of the problem if you won't even look it up, but instead continue to rely on your current frame of knowledge without seeking to grow and improve. Everyone has bias, i'm just saying that this wording is something used towards certain individuals where you didn't expect them to communicate a certain way. If you haven't thought to use the phrase 'well spoken' when listening to other people, it's possible there is a bias lingering there.
@@teaberry73 Some people look for misogyny and racism in everything... Sad.
@@How2BAMan that’s not true again. No need to respond to my comments if you don’t do the research to at least try to understand other groups of people’s life experiences instead of thinking only you are right. I couldn’t imagine if someone brought to my attention something I’ve been saying or doing that happened to be low key offensive but then I decide to reverse it on that person like it’s their problem instead of trying to self-reflect, listen, and do some research and learn. Good luck to you
I feel you on the steps I get about 1500 a day sometimes it's insane.
Hi Bukola! I love how you explained the layoff situation. Do you plan to stay at Google?
Also, how can you walk outside and work at the same time?
I've missed your videos
Big companies won’t sit down looking at each employee individually to decide who to lay off. So tell me how do they decide who to lay off or not.
great video
hello from TOGO
Glad you do grocery delivery …. I can now stop feeling shame about it lol
Welcome back! Glad to hear you didn’t get caught in the layoffs. Q: how does contributing to 401k help in the event of a layoff? Like would you take out a loan against it or something? Or just cash out? Aren’t there penalties for that? Just curious on what strategies, besides finding a new job quickly, people have in mind.
Not sure if this is her reasoning but some companies do 401k matching so it's a good idea to take advantage of that while you still have employment.
What programming languages did you use
I don’t see the desk treadmill in the links. How do you like yours? Mind sharing it? Thx!💗
I really like this new one! Here is the link: www.amazon.com/shop/bukola/list/3ADS88VNFGC34?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_aipsflist_aipsfbukola_WG8FMDN8T1C0BYCCK2QV
@@Bukola1 gracias! 😊🙏🏾
It’s $30 off rn y’all! 💓
what's your linkedin? and how'd you get your google role?
Do you also work on mobile app?
Bukola: it’s 30 degrees so we can’t walk outside.
Me: *laughs in Chicagoian*
When I figured out it was drastically colder here than in NYC I said , “no ma’am! Send me back to the east coast!!!”
Hey Bukola! May I ask you, do you own or rent?:) would you consider doing a video about your point of view on this topic?:) thank you❤️
Hi! No problem I'll add it to my list of topics to discuss :) I am a renter btw
I was recently laid off from Microsoft. I agree with the worker union idea. Deff need that. Made a video about my experience too!
girl, drop the link of that treadmill! Looks super sleek!
Her reply to Jess Tiss about 2weeks ago included the link..
@@raizo6895 how would I know that? I don’t follow her that close up. You could have been kind enough to share the link directly if you knew that.
What is a software developer advocate?
Power to the people! I am for unionization as well because these companies are not going to treat their workers well unless pressured by unions or pressure as they are in Europe. After being laid off in the summer and am currently in my role, I learned that I always have to advocate for myself and look for my best interest because these companies are going to lay you off when they best see fit. I am grateful for my new role but at the same time, I know I could be laid off again! So that’s why it’s important to learn as much as you can when you are employed, leverage those skills, and create sources of income so you are not dependent on a company
Couple of videos of poplular UA-camrs showing WFH videos and day in the life working at Google and most of them got fired for this very reason here. Be careful. Not everything has to be posted.
New Sub🎉🎉🎉
Lol, layoffs like this have happened in tech so many times. Everything is cyclical. I've worked in tech for 12 years, it's happened before and it'll happen again. Always have a healthy cash emergency fund. Always have different streams of income. Your job is just a job. They owe you nothing.
Are you still fully remote?
This is lovely.... Nice apartment tho 😊
Am the first from Djibouti 🇩🇯
Hey!!
Link to recipe, please
Yes to tech unions
What do you do about the decreased equity package?
Its very disappointing! But I just hold the equity I have right now while its low. But I think most personal finance expert suggest still selling as soon as the equity vest.
@@Bukola1 lol most of my friends sell it right away
Those shrimp were so overcooked omg!
OMG 😂 no they weren't! 😅
Salut🥰bukola.vous parlez français...?
Do developer advocate need to code?
It depends on the company! But the interview I did had 4 coding rounds
💕♥
Milk that google title
My dear friend, how are you doing? I believe that you are doing well by the grace of God. Take care of yourself. Nice video.
Hi lady if you are pleased with your treadmill please post the link. I'm in the market for one.
Why u put the smiley on your face
They didn't have to do layoffs they chose to. Sad thing about tech
