$4,500 a month is not terrible for living in New York City!! Especially since you make a good amount from your job. The fact that you have money left for savings and you budget that good is great most older people struggle with that. This inspires me as a young 21 yr old to be like this by 25

@@miramirla3462 unfortunately Software engineering is the kind of field where the learning process varies from person to person. As a Software engineer myself, I usually hear from other engineers that college is a waste for a to be engineer and that it is better to either pay a bootcamp or if you have the discipline for it, to be self taught (UA-cam, research). There are some that I've talked to that liked their college but mostly to just experience college rather than the learning process. If you insist on a college in NY, I would say any of the cuny schools that offers computer science should be fine (NYIT, City College, etc.)

And a random tip-I also have Adobe CC, and have always been able to get a decent discount when my renewal comes around by simply going through the cancel account flow-they usually have a few offers before you actually cancel where I've saved like $20 a month on that subscription.

Don’t judge yourself about your budget, nor let others’ judgement get to you! You’ve earned it, and you know how to live your life best. 💸💸
Probably it’s different for you, but living within an Asian family and as a first gen I had to learn for myself that there’s a lot more to money and life than just “saving for rainy weather” or for some future that we have no control over.
Proud of you for having a solid control of your finances and living life the way you want it!!

I always love these types of videos! It’s so interesting how living expenses vary throughout the country and the world. What you choose to do with your money is your business. I work at a credit union and it’s always interesting to see how people chose to allocate their funds. It’s kind of crazy what a persons account can tell you about a person 😆 but if anybody is reading this SAVE SAVE SAVE (if financially able). Even if it’s just $10 per pay check. And think about putting money towards a retirement fund even if you’re 20 years old. It seems so far away but you will need it eventually.

According to the most recent census in 2022 the average household income in NYC (5 boroughs) is only $67,046 . I'm a native New Yorker and personally make a good amount more than this but according to the census most people in NYC live on a lot less than 1k+/week for one person. The numbers are probably more realistic for people working in tech living in Manhattan.

For living anywhere in America you are doing exceptionally well. You paid attention to your parents and to anyone in school who taught you how to budget. Has someone whose dad is a native I always avoided moving there because of the fear of the cost but honestly if you can find an apartment for around $2,500 a month and you can manage to make close to 80k a year then it's not that crazy to live there. You can make that money as a welder and live in the city. Best someone who lives in california, not in a fancy part, those prices are comparable to here but you have all the added benefit of the city and all that it offers

this is super interesting and kinda crazy for me. I'm a 24 year old student in germany and currently pay for all my monthly expanses myself (my parents only pay my yearly university tuition which is about 700 euros).
what you spend in a week in new york is about the same if not more as what i spend the entire month living in germany. I share a flat with a friend and we each pay 450 in rent and utility. i spend about 50 in random subcriptions and about 200 on groceries. i spend about 100-200 for eating out and meeting friends and the rest is either saved up or spend on new clothes, amazon buys etc. my income is 1200 so i nearly spend all the money i make. cant wait to finish uni and get a full time job tho :)

💸💸 I’ve lived 2 years in Hong Kong so I can totally relate when it comes to living in a super expensive city! My rent was less than yours but going out and eating at restaurants (except street food which is less expensive) was way more hahahah.
I really enjoy that kind of content because it shows that everyone budgets in a different way and it’s okay to treat yourself and enjoy sharing a good drink or meal with friends. I tend to be so stressed by saving money that I sometimes feel guilty when I spend 🥲🥲
Great video anyways! Thanks for your transparency ✨❤️

Hong Kong is crazy expensive too! The rent prices for a such a tiny apartment…and that’s coming from me living in a shoebox here in nyc haha 🥲
The guilt in spending is so universal I feel like, and there should be no shame in treating yourself once in a while or just spending if it’s within your budget! I always like to think that money needs to flow out for more to come in 😉 thank you for your constant support Chloé ♥️

as a data scientists I would hope you know to multiply weekly expenses, not by 4, but by 4.33 since there are 4 1/3 weeks per month when calculated over a year. But nice breakdown and really cool to see what it costs!
