  • Posted by the International Al Jolson Society, www.jolson.org, this is an excerpt of the 30 Nov 1949 Bing Crosby Program with guest star Al Jolson. Along with the great songs sung by Bing, Al Jolson joined the program with a few songs, including the two in this podcast. Enjoy Jolie singing and whistling "Toot, Toot, Tootsie," and Al and Bing in a duet with "Back In Your Own Backyard" while looking at pictures of Bing and Al. The complete broadcast, along with other Jolson radio shows, is available at the Official Al Jolson Website at www.jolson.org, from its posting in November through the end of December. I think Elvis could claim that title.

@@susanjewitt8783 Dean, Bing and Perry are crooners I listen/watch to a lot. I have books about Dean and Bing. I'll have to see if there's a book about Perry. Regis was quite a fan of Perry. I've watched a few of his shows on yt when his guests where Dean and Pat Boone.

Excellent quality! Sounds like it was just recorded. Bing and Al had great chemistry. I used to listen to their radio shows on LP when I was a teenager in the late '70s.

The only entertainer that outshone Crosby was Jolson. And it is no lies that Crosby was genuinely awed and weak in the knees when he had to perform with Jolie!

I had the privilege of listening weekly to Bing Crosby on radio until he "went off the air" in the mid 1950's. Bing and Rosemary Clooney later had a weekday radio program from 1960 into 1962 which was good listening. Al Jolson, paired with Bing Crosby, was entertainment at its best. Two of the best entertainers of the 20th century. Thank you for sharing these valuable memories.

Just think, the great Jolson lived to see a film made of his life, so sucessful that there was a follow-up AND although they found an actor to play the part they could not find anyone to do justice to his songs so he recorded them himself ...

Anne Roy Anne, to the best of my knowledge, Al Jolson remains the only person to have two film biographies made of his life while he was still living. He was just that great.
