  • so here is my latest mod, an adjustable wing :D I hope you like it as much as I do. here's the code you'll need -

    ["name", "type", "unit", "category", "default", "min", "max", "title", "description"],
    ["$spoiler_angle_F", "range", "Downforce", "EFT_WING0", 0, -2, 2, "Front Wing Downforce", "Downforce amount of the rear wing", {"stepDis":0.01}],
    ["$spoiler_angle_R", "range", "Downforce", "EFT_WING0", 0, -2, 2, "Rear Wing Downforce", "Downforce amount of the rear wing", {"stepDis":0.01}],
    ],
    "$=$spoiler_angle_F+"
    "$=$spoiler_angle_R+"

    You should put the minimap on. Barring a few circuits in Beam that I've driven extensively, I don't know a lot of the race courses, and even on courses I do drive a lot, like Pike's Peak, there are still corners that catch me out. As such, I use the minimap in the place of something like pace notes for a rally course.

    3:15 I think you meant frontal area and Drag Coefficient 😅
    See, _I know_ that _you know what you're talking about_ , and that you definitely have the technical knowledge to apply it, but sounding smarts to new people who don't know that might be a good thing
    ALSO 4:51 ayyyy we're gonna see you bottom out on the Karussell and fly down Döttinger
    5:36 You seriously nailed the design on this one! It's got the look of the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR, and all the details on the side remind me of the Mclaren Senna
    The detail you're putting into engineering the active earo is actually phenomenal. Also at 13:46 you can see car bottom out causing the fixture to snap off.
    That's something they take into consideration when designing most racecars, they'll have a fair bit of rake to stop the car from bottoming out at the rear

    • @fillman86
      @fillman86  3 роки тому +2

      haha I meant a small frontal cross section
      and yeah, the valkury was one of the reference images I was using :)
      the rake at the rear is actually downforce related. They are taking the amount of air that comes in at the front, and then expands it with rake, causing downforce :) but rake is sometimes too hard to put into automation cars :(

    Hi!
    I am looking at your channel after the publication of your fenders for open wheeler on the steam workshop, and I really enjoy your content. You have won a new subscriber! :)
    I have a question though. I am working on a quite big tutorial on the BeamnNG forum, in which I try to explain some fairly simple Jbeam modifications that can be done on automation cars to make them more complete, like adding a new mechanical piece or suspension sounds. So, my question is: Can I add your video as a new part of tutorial? (Of course, I will give you all the credits)
    I mean, customizable aerodynamics is something that can be extremely useful. For example, I have built a car that can climb the complete road of Pikes Peak in 7min 49s (yes, it’s faster that the IRL world record). I think a race car should have the ability to adapt it handling according to the preferences of the driver. My car is already equipped with fully adjustable transmission and suspensions. But soon, thanks to you, it will also have tunable aerodynamics settings! :P

      @@fillman86 Thanks for your answer!
      I have added the three videos! But, since I have my own electric powertrain, I have added your video on it as an alternative tutorial :)
      If you want to have a look, the topic's name on the BeamNG forum is ''(Tutorial) How to improve your automation cars with file editing'' :P
      (Sorry, UA-cam doesn't let me give you a direct link)

    I have a question for you, hopefully you're still checking these comments
    If I were to say, put the invisible wing's triangle geometry where the splitter actually is in the jbeam file, would it give the same downforce benefit as it does hanging above the nose

    • @fillman86
      @fillman86  3 роки тому +1

      the problem is moving the wing changes the leverage, and sometimes having the wing inside the collision mesh of the car can reduce the effectiveness of the wing. So it's really hard to judge things like that for all cars.
      if you're asking if there's ground effect, then no, beamng hasn't implemented that yet :(
      also all comments go to the creator studio section in youtube, so it doesn't matter what you comment on, I'll see it haha

      @@fillman86 Oh beautiful perfect, then I can have questions!
      Okay so, that's what I figured. I also noticed the sharkfin on my car has a surface area of HALF THE DAMN CAR, which was why I was constantly getting understeer, so I reduced that to encompass roughly the geometry of the wing not the vertical stabilizer.
      BUT, is it possible to turn the + into - in the ref code and use the front of that wing? I want to adjust it's aoa from the front, and separately adjust the body wing I have underneath.
      For reference I'm using the same body as you, the "body wing" slots perfectly between the rear arches and fills the space

    RRREEEAAALLLLLLYYY late comment, but with the adjustable wing code you added, is it possible to change that value in-game to get a DRS-esque effect? got into beamng a while ago, but just now thinking about trying automation, and wanted to see if this was doable at all before i waste hours trying to figure it out. Thanks in advance!

    • @fillman86
      @fillman86  9 місяців тому +1

      this is not how automation's aero works anymore. You'd have to be a lua expert to implement active aero now.
      if you're just talking about normal aero in beamng though, this is closer - ua-cam.com/video/ttkbaa8tv7M/v-deo.html

      @@fillman86 just took a quick look at the vid, and that's a touch more in-depth than I was planning to go (was just looking to do like a pitch toggle bound to something, not even automatic, and definitely not with roll), and should cover pretty much everything. Will have to play around with it ofc, but I would just be looking to change it from an automatic to a manual button-press to change angle while driving, and may have to tie it into some dummy part or something to extract/store/toggle a variable, but that is absolutely perfect, Thank you so much!

      after "name":"Turbocharger", "value":2000, }, and between
      "slotType": "Camso_Turbo",
      you add
      "slotType" : "Camso_Turbo",

      and you replace
      "wastegateStart":41.1075, //Wastegate starts to open at this PSI
      "wastegateLimit":45.675, //Wastegate is fully open at this PSI
      with "wastegateStart":"$wastegateStart",
