  • Boosted, best known for its electric skateboard, will enter the scooter business this summer with the Boosted Rev, a $1,600 electric scooter. We got a first look at the new scooter and talked to the CEO and co-founder to see why the company is betting big on electric scooters.
    The company hopes to appeal to a broader customer base, but it will be going up against the scooter-sharing companies that have recently starting popping up in cities.

      Yes, even as an NYC resident. It is one of the few electric scooter options I've seen from a reputable company with solid customer service. I think it's an exciting new direction for alternative green transportation that is small enough to be convenient for city use and storage.

    Looks well built, but way too heavy at 46 pounds (21 Kg) for 24 mph (40Km/h) and 22 miles ranges (32 km). Here in Europe the etwow brand is really ahead of the competition with scooters that go up 40/45 km/h, have a 35km range and only weight 11kg virtually half). And for less than 1500€ sometimes even less than 1000€. I have several of them and the oldest is still fine after 4 years...

      Izunami to ride where? I have tried the dual motor etwow, which is more powerful and faster than the already fast Monster I was talking about, it gets to 50 and above all it has a lot of power, but it's scary, and I mean not because I am scared to go fast, on the contrary it's safer on the road, but because it can easily attract the police attention in town. In Europe, these scooter are generally either illegal or forbidden to go above a certain speed, typically 25km/h, where I live 20...Riding at 35 as I always do is one thing, riding at 50 and getting to 50 faster than a moto, is a very different thing...

    • @TigerTT
      @TigerTT 5 років тому +1

      @@_Digitalguy Well where I live,which is in NY,theres tons of highways and wide roads so its definitely more suitable here and the speed limit on the highway is about 65mph. Almost everyone uses cars here so it makes more sense to use a high speed scooter.

      @_Digitalguy 5 років тому +1

      Izunami do you need to put a license plate on the scooter to ride it or you can freely ride a dualtron at max speed? Here to put a plate on a scooter it needs to have a seat, turn signals, rear-view mirrors etc. None of these scooters has. But the way the word scooter in most European languages refers to traditional motor scooters and there is a different word for this kind of scooter... Legislation allows fast electric bikes to have a plate but they are limited to 45km/h

    I can't afford one now and also work from home and only go out for meetings some of the time but if I get to the point where I can afford one and I go to meetings more often I would get one.
    And a return tube ticket in just central London would be £5 a day so that's over £1,000 a month so I guess when you consider saved travel cost it's not really an expense and would pay for its self in 18 months of use.

    To those who said the chinese scooters are not in the same ballpark as boosted, do you think they dont have the tech to beat boosted? They do, but they didn't deploy it as paying $1500+ for a scooter didnt make sense. You can buy a decent 200cc motorcycle at that price.
    But once they see that Americans are willing to pay that price, get ready for 50mile all wheel drive scooters from china that cost less than a grand.

    There’s an element of fun that Boosted seems to be ignoring with regard to the pricing. The Boosted Board is hilarious (albeit expensive) and most of the reason people purchase it is for a combination of fun and transportation. I’ve found that I use my board more as a fun vehicle to commute with regardless of whether or not it saves commute time - and that’s where the price justification comes from. The Boosted Board is huge fun as well as being practical from an urban commute perspective. The Rev kind of ignores the fun aspect and is both more expensive and harder to carry with you. I understand that the board is far more dangerous and more people feel more comfortable on a scooter, but the target audience can generally justify the board and it’s price more than the Rev. I think it’s fair to say that the Rev is utilitarian, and just that, while the Board is fun first and utility second. It matches about 80% of the Rev’s utility, but outpaces it in the recreational aspect by a landslide, and is cheaper, lighter, (probably) easier to repair, more customizable and aesthetically pleasing.

    $1600 and no suspension? Strange considering how much thought they say they put into it and the claim it will last for years, not on those NY streets (or many others) with suspension...…….. For the same or a bit more money you can get the Speedway 5 and cruise in style AND comfort + more power to boot!

    with things like this, I can see cities moving towards vehicle free zones that are only allowed for pedestrians and ultra light weight transport methods such as this. If you live in the suburbs and want to visit/work in the city, simply drive up to a parking garage and take a scooter to your final destination. Imagine cities with no cars, no loud motor noise, no exhaust fumes.

    The 1600 price tag for a dual 750w is not bad (maybe a bit over) At this price I would want solid tires and some basic suspension. I own a Xiaomi and I can say I would never buy pneumatic tires again. I would like to see the turn radius of the front wheel, you want it restricted for control (around 30 degrees) Lastly a HUGE design flaw is no chain lock ring, They need a way to lock it up and with 2 motors you cant use the rim to run a chain through. Ultimately as the price goes up these things need to be addressed more appropriately

  • @Johnsonwps
    @Johnsonwps 5 років тому

    It is expensive for a scooter but dont always look at it from price point perspective. I owned 2 Boosted board V2, I've rode them almost to the top of their performance on daily basis and had done over 10000km in total between the 2 boards and they still works great, and when they dont, Boosted done whatever they can to get me back on the road again. I personally vouch for Boosted's after sales support, I dont own other brand of electric skateboard but I'm actively in my local group, I listened to fellow riders, Boosted is not perfect in every way but if I had to choose a new electric skateboard, I would spend on Boosted anyday until a better company comes along.

    its funny seeing people saying this isn't cheap and for everyone, also saying its overpriced. People see the 1000$+ and think you have to pay it all off at once. cars are way more expensive and you can pay in payments. boosted boards and now boosted scooters isn't for everyone, its targeted for college kids that live on campus and people that live in cites where you only have to travel blocks to get to a job or a errand. Most times you get what you pay for. The quality and the care that comes from boosted is well worth the price.

Buying one would cost me a year of trips by bus, but easily pay itself off. Even more quickly since I'd use it to go to the supermarket (usually a 20 minute walk each way) in half the time to collect groceries instead of getting food delivered or walking to the overpriced convenience store 2 minutes away because I'm lazy.
