Steven has had a cold for years now.
They make him sleep in the freezer.
I'd be sick too, managing several metric tons of bullshit trying to get this thing off the ground
You know, it's very funny that you say this.
The senior engineer ( roughly 30 yrs old ) at my job gets a new cold every 3 weeks, unironically. It's been this way for pretty much the entire 2 years I've worked with him. I Genuinly don't understand it.
I think i had less than 20 colds in my entire 26 years of life. The fact that he gets colds every couple of weeks breaks my brain. I am genuinly mind boggled by the fact that our genetical fitness is so far apart, that his rate of getting sick from common viruses is basically 15-20 times higher than mine. I am noty trying to brag and say I'm some Giga chad, but I was honestly surprised to learn that some peoples immune systems are so much weaker ( excluding genetical dissorders or other stuff like that )
It's simple... stress.
You call it cold, we call it coke 😂
This is a Hot take but I think Ashes of Creation might release one day.
it comes 2 weeks after star citizen and a month before blizzard makes a good game
Open beta is confirmed already December 12th 2072
Better to believe in them than in Blizzard
@@crocrox2273Do you know if accounts will be transferable between generations. I will leave my account for my great grandkids in my will.
Contrary to popular belief, the game has only been in full production with a decently sized team since late 2019 / 2020. It's not far off on how long it takes to build an MMO on average.

@@thumpertron hes saying this game won't come out until the year that Sony releases the PS14.
@@thumpertronHahah it must be your first rodeo brother because these projects almost always flop.
I think it's good that they don't cut out the "fails", like when Steven tried to leap up the cliff and failed. We get to see how the game actually runs this way and when they fix it in the future, we'll get to see the improvement as well.
I think they should try to develop a distinct color pallet for the spell effects of each class. Fighter can maybe have red, burgundy, grey, silver. While paladin/cleric could have the gold/yellows. Ranger has greens, mage has blues and purples. It would really help make each class more easily identifiable. I don't like how the fighter currently has some ability effects that are gold/yellow, makes me think they are divine powers, not fighter powers.
Agree
It actually looks like they've got the fluidity of motion right, which *a lot* of MMOs and even SRPGs have struggled with. They talk about it when referencing the movement skills as well, which is a good sign.
This is something WoW got right from day one, and even though it's not talked about a lot is one of the biggest selling points of the game. It just feels smooth to play, with little input lag, and your character doesn't feel sluggish like in GTA or Red Dead Redemption (1 especially) for example.
WoW ruined most other MMOs for me with just how much lag there is after moving or clicking on something
One of my favourite concepts from any MMO was in SWTOR. The sith assassin tank. The light armour tank. So cool. Relying on dodging and shield generators. But in robes. Was really fun
Still waiting for the "69,420% playing this" thumbnail in 20 years.
It won't take that long.
@@soulreaper55123 it's been almost 10 years, it will take this long 😂
congratz Ashes of Creation, its looking good!
Right after complaining about there being only 1 enemy HP bar, at 1:06:13 it shows Keenan's view and he has all the enemy HP bars on.
I have to say they did an amazing job with the world, the river and everything else looks so natural
Ngl AOC looks like a real game
Something that would make the visuals pop and appear truly next gen would be if some of the spell effects and the purple campfires etc. would bleed light unto the environment and character models. A fireball should light up the surrounding area. Lightning should cast a blue sheen and so on. The three swirly balls that go around the character should light up the ground and the armor as they go.
This is UE5 so u will be able to use real time light effects with your 8090ti
20 minutes in to the vid so far.
Main feedback I’d like to see is far less “Yellow” spell effect flourishes and potentially change it to white/gray/silver.
Yellow/gold (to me) illicit’s a feeling of holy/divine energy to me. I would like to think the grey/silver would help to convey “steel” strikes, which feels far more appropriate for a non-magic martial fighter.
Overall it looks great, and the sound effects are really nice too.
Yeah I got a bit of a Paladin feel at the start. It got better a bit later in the vid, but definitely agree with the beginning skills
even the dark red for bloody flashes was great for a warrior's rending style
true, I think it would be a good idea to have mostly consistent colors for each class' abilities to help people quickly identify which class someone is, especially in pvp
The colour of the abilities at this stage is literally a non-issue. Combat still looks jank and it's been in development for years.
@@KeelanJon the game has been in development for years, not the combat.
So far, warrior is my favourite. Hell yeah brother!
The updates to the class are massive and they have done such an amazing job.
I just love how when a game is taking a while to come out people are quick to complain, and cry that its still in alpha. However when a game comes out fast and rushed that is unpolished and unfinished with major issues and bugs they also cry.
Yah the modern gamer. They'd rather it come out fast and poop and then pay more money for a DLC to fix the problems
You are talking about two extremes. They ARE both bad. Several delays and slow progress is a sign of bad direction, and probably a bad end product. A finished game with lots of bugs is a bad end product.
Thing is, Ashes is not delayed yet, its been so long but thats litterally what it takes to make an MMO this big @@saskys
@@saskys Facts people fail to reason that normally both sides have valid points

Game is really starting to look darn good.
yea ! I can't wait to try a spellsword, weaving melee attacks with spells
My favorite thing in RPGS. Is having a REALLY slow class that takes FOREVER to do anything and when it does its VERY noticable.
I LOVE Sorcerer from Dragon's Dogma. and Dragon's Dogma 2 even tho they riggity riggity rekt some of the spells.
Why? Because I summon a LEGIT tornado, and I see my dps vs my teammates. I do no dps, I just drop a giant metoer that 1 taps someone after 9 seconds of being afk. Like its REALLLY REALLLY cool to do that. You can have flashy dps classes like rogue and what not sure. But I REALLY enjoy the SUPER large impactful massive power of the spells that take forever to cast.
I want something, a perk, gear, etc THat has some inverse cast time bs. That makes it so I can make my spells take longer to cast, but do more damage. I just feel like I want to drop a meteor, not a small pebble that is on fire.
Sorcerers taking 15 seconds to summon an aoe tornado AN ACTUAL tornado is the most powerful feeling thing ever.
Warriors attacking significantly slower, but with more impact than rogues FEEELS great. The slow sluggish slams that send enemies flying. FEELS great.
Rogues being able to juke dodge, and have smaller animation lockouts to better avoid damage, FEELS great.
Having dps be the main factor in a pve/vp game always feels terrible.
My favorite rpgs usually end up being PVE solo play games because designers have a tendency to like balancing classes around all being homogenous. If my mage literally can't cast a spell in pvp because of a rogues kicking me over and over, I am fine with that, as long as when I do cast a spell, the enemy team gets rekt for it.
Hard cc should be tied to classes like mages with long cast times. Everyone knows hard cc stun locks are terrible, but they FEEL much better when you know the class that stunned you, did nothing for 5 seconds before hand.
Here before all the very original “cant wait to play this with my grandchildren” comments

Yeah, personally I'm super stoked to see improvements that are being made month to month. It's super encouraging to see actual improvements of game assets. This means that we are going to get a product better than what is being shown, no matter how already good it looks
Agree
I'm glad Intrepid Studios just continues to not be phased by all the BS and just focus on making the vision they want for THEIR game.
i like that the attack have weight to them i feel like in new world when you hit things it just left like waving a feather around and the weapons had to weight or feel like your were hitting things.
Real greatswords don't weigh 8 pounds, they typically max out around at about 7 lbs with a couple of exceptions and on average are about 5-6 lbs. Sword smith's weren't stupid. They would try to put the balance of the blade as close to the hilt as possible to make them more wieldly. Professional greatsword users were very agile and quick with their weapons. If they weren't, they wouldn't be effective in combat.
with the point of mana, I think the only main thing that needs to be done is for warrior and such classes, to have a different bar, similar to mana, called something like qi or fighting spirit or something like that. But overall I think the mechanic of mana itself for these type of classes work, it's just the naming of it does not necessarily fit in these cases
I wonder if you can smart-cast (no extra click for confirming target) or half-smartcast (target while holding skill key, cast on release) that heroic leap, and whether you can use it while falling/mid-jump.
It feels like the animations all have a small animation delay baked into them. Which that will make the transitions from player inputs for combos and canceling smoother and much more reliable.
The percent just keeps going higher with every single thumbnail it’s not just me right now
@Asmondgold TV
@57:32, I found the best was always Guild Wars 1. Where they had way lower mana, and half the mana regeneration capability (even though they could secondary spec into any other class in the game, base warrior was far less mana dependant).
Could be light on detail for performance reasons, I would imagine they'll amp them up later and give this as a setting when animations are reduced for performance. Much easier to optimize, can't imagine this running well with insane effects so this looks more realistic.
"I don't do 1.5x speed it's annoying to listen to I'm not gonna do that."

this looks gooood - the movements are being more polished, efects look great, good good xD
this actually reminds me a lot of archeage and makes me so excited to play goddamn
Agree the attack speed is a little fast. Don’t need it wayy slower though, 2h weapons aren’t that heavy for an Orc!
I mean great swords are actually pretty fast weapons if you watch real uses of great swords
Very good improvement month for month thats what we need ... i dont care when i just care that its good
Feels like that one leap didn't go up the ledge because of elevation difference. On the second try he jumped, and offset the difference just a bit.
I loved greatsword/polearms in Aion classic. Multi hit weapons that were slow but hit like trucks.
The potential of the ability animations is great, I thought most of them looked very good, the snare one was bad, but I liked their idea, it was a low slash at targets leg. I really liked the shield block and stun animations from the other character. Video was too long, they talked to much but overall, for a game still in Alpha, it looks really good.
they did after they finished showing them off , most of the spells are between 8-15 sec cool down with like 3 of them who are big skills have like 30~45 seconds
Can definitely see the archeage influence in the attack speed. I like it
oh man i hope this sparks the same kind of sense of wonder that archeage did.
Man I can't wait to play the next Alpha, seeing the combat is already getting me pumped up.
For leap strike - I think there needs to be more of an arch in its path. Right now it feels like it’s on a track. You can see the path and it breaks the illusion of there not being actual physics involved. If you make the arch more curved it’ll look more natural. Like WoW
Looks like it's coming along nicely.
Keeping an eye on it.
cant wait to play this fucking game
I like the idea of the weapon throw doing a lot of damage, but disarming you, and maybe the charge ability still being able to be used while disarmed (less dmg), so you can charge in and grab your weapon and get back to smackin
Make all debuffs selectable to show under health bars. In control options have each debuff image with a selection option on image. Two different options one for main target health bar another for all health bars visible.
this is way better than a lightning ball sprite moving in a straight line across the ground
any mmo combat taking notes from lost ark's combat is a good thing
Based on what they showed with the warrior abilities and skill tree up to minute 30 its exatcly how i built my character in burning crusade exact same effects of the abilities and talents of the skill tree.
Really love how this looks for a game that hasn't even had Alpha 2 yet. I hope they ignore some of the people wanting a more rushed development and take their time to get everything right. Very proud to be supporting this project.

Lighting is just getting a big pass, so expect more! 👍👍
The warhammer MMO had the momentum type of system the longer your in combat your bar fills up and each part of the bar unlocks a special ability but the more u build up and don't use it u can use the best ability
I'm slightly worried that they're very attached to the idea of momentum (or ramping up) on Warriors, and that ending up with a class that always feels weak on engage won't be a great result, at least as the only option.
But perhaps a Berzerker/Barbarian archetype can be the alternative to that, since this paladin-esque Warrior doesn't really appeal to me.
Hopefully it effects damage more than the ability to be tanky. Maybe warriors have high tank stats compare to other classes to help them engage hopefully
True
Combat starting too look WAAAY less floaty if comapred to last time we saw melee. More viceral and animations seems to have actual weight and impact
looks like a wonky mess with 5 frames.
I really hope they still have in mind a new set of movement animations. The characters literally float when attack , rotate or do left-right .
A good mmorpg has good movement animations. And what a lot of people noticed and asmon as well - FPS for the spells.
Now! They said for the next months performance development will take priority - so a lot of FPS issues will be resolved.
And yes - obviously is in full production. I just hope they dont let the character movement animations like they are now.
This game might just actually come out right as I hit retirement age, hyped.
I don't know what will happen first. Ashes gets released or Steven dies of his cold.
not even something to joke about xd
Dude; he has had that persistent cough for the past 12 months, it’s crazy
Skill toolbar art is placeholder? I am almost 100% sure Ive seen the entire bottom bar in other games...
Yeah, pretty much everything is placeholder at the moment.
This actually got me excited to play an MMORPG again. Haven't even felt the desire to in years.
I don't think it's choppy for the reasons you think..It's timed to the animation to give a stutter effect when the attack makes contact. It captures the force of impact nicely while still staying fluid, Monster hunter world has this.
It's wild to me that Wows ui design / combat design still feels like the correct formular at this point
It feels like I am alone in this boat but damn I kinda love chopines on those abilities. It gives off anime/cartoonish style with skipped frames in animation. Especially with current FX and particles.
Yeah, same. As long as its not locking you fully at one place, the choppiness only adds to the weight as an effect, I dont dislike it, its just different.
I guess I'll have to try it out before I can judge, but it doesnt seem negative right off the bat
I do not like the graphics style of this game at all, kinda like with Final Fantasy Online, they try to go for almost realistic graphics which are an eyesore. These kinda games really need stylized, cartoonish graphics.
@@overlord1995typical wow player
@@challenger3596The thing is too realistic makes it laggy bro, especially if you have GvG or ZvZ type of content.
That choppiness is like a built in animation buffer. That buffer zone allows for player input to be strung together and accounted for with much higher fidelity. Makes animation canceling for reactive dodges and skill animation transitions during combos (or ramping attack speed) much more fluid and reliable.
"ill watch just a little of it"
an hour and a half later.....
Omg the game is actually coming together. I really have felt this entire time, like they have the potential to pull this off. I'm glad that it seems like they're following through. Very rare on this scale. I'd be interested to see the cost comparison between this and Star Citizen xD.
That ratio would be like, star citizen 1b dollars : to aoc's 100+ million
''choppy'' ah yes man I really want the feeling of elden ring where I press a button and 10 years later the character does the action I pressed
A real life sword wielder, I actually approve of this in every way. Can be cleaned up some but very nice. The small lags in the strikes are very realistic if you've ever held and done combat with REAL weapons
Considering this is alpha footage it's really impressive how detailed and smooth it already looks.
that charge is INSANE wow... thats awesome haha
Tbh one thing I'm not a huge fan of is how the skill animation/effects look very... magic-like? In my warrior fantasy I like things to be hitting hard and gritty, not flashy lights and effects. Leave those for the damn mages and healers.
Would definitely allow combo classes to distinguish themselves as well, as in a warrior-warrior would feel like he's hitting with a melee weapon, whereas a warrior-mage would feel like he's imbued his attacks with magical energies etc
Glad you're not on the team.
I think the animation graphics are visual ques for enemy combatants. You're average player is going to need that for any chance at pvp.
It's a visualisation for pvp.
the swings colors should be more berserker like with red auro or smth and maybe actualy wrap your whole sword to add a cool swinging effect but rather than than it looks cool
This and BitCraft seems like a good Era heading forward
"Only gonna watch a little bit" Actually hooked on Ashes xD
Too be fair, this was a really good update, combat is getting way better and this isn't even close to it's final form. Ashes of Creation NOT a scam WTF??!!
Ashes of Creation is an interesting study in how long things take to make and how much patience the average gamer has
Answers are long and short lmao
Gamers will have endless regurgitations of WoW to entertain them until the next MMO Messiah arrives.
The hilarious thing is the game isn't all that far off from the average time it takes to make an MMO.
Despite it's kickstarted launching in 2017, it didn't go into full development mode with a decent sized team until 2020. Before that, it was almost entirely recruiting and building the networking for the engine.
It's been in Alpha for over 3 years 😂
@@mattweismiller for real. MMOs take too long to make. should just play cod.
I also like the slow two handed weapon fantasy for warriors, but not all the time.
I reckon the attack speed should be determined by the weight and size of the weapon.
A nodachi or generic eropean long sword for example should be pretty much on par with a one handed weapon (maybe have a bigger wind up and faster swing speed though), but massive hulking war hammers and dragonslayer sword type weapons should obviously be very slow and impactful.
Perhaps faster/lighter weapons would do slightly more dps (because more hits = more status application chances like bleeding),
then the heavy/slow weapons would do more cc knockback/knockdown dizzyness stuff that leaves the enemy vulnerable and open to more damage.
The raw power 2h fantasy is great, but so to is the dextrous and precise 2h fantasy.
It shows that Steven played a lot of Lineage 2 back in the day with the way classes are built
lmao the environment, the orc and the gear look like they came from different games
also how the fuck are they taking this long to explain a charge attack like its something no one has ever seen before?
Bdo animation are great but most don't even see them cause it's such a visual cluster fuck that most sane ppl turn them off or are not playing anymore. I watch my buddies do node wars and they are running that nivida element visual thing that make it look like rune scape so alot of good those animations and graphics do.
Rule of thumb for animations and graphics is if you can't have more than 20 people on screen without setting your PC on fire then they are too much for any game wanting to be an MMO.
I like the effects, adds flair
reminds me of Rift and I really enjoyed Rift so I cant wait to play this.
Why does every MMO have to have the same set of moves?
How can you invent more set of moves on a character that simply uses a greatsword?
A melee sword class will have a moveset of sword swinging. There isn't much they can do about it.
They don't. This is D&D inspired. Also, there are a limited amount of moves for anything.
Asmon "I'll watch just a little bit".
86 Minute Video "I don't think so."
Asmond forgot that Main class can have temp 2nd Classes, that's why Physical classes still have mana on them.
It's funny, IRL, great swords are FAST. In fact it is in motion 80+% of the time when actively fighting. Attacks take time to develop though. When you see an opening, you have to weave in the attack with the movement. BTW, movement is your defense.

Thats what I have been saying for over 2 years now. In my opinion, they should use more real life reference when it comes to armor and weapons and switch to more natural lighting like Dragons Dogma 2. They listened when we gave feedback about ice spells (icecicle still need a bit of transparency, so I am hopeful they will listen to feedback when it comes to visuals.
Since Ashes was based on Steven's Pathfinder campaign, they should look visuals of DnD and Pathfinder games, especially Baldurs Gate 3.

My concern with Blitz (and any gap closer) is how it’ll be used in PvE content. This is something FFXIV figured out but people WILL use gap closers primarily for dmg and not for the intended purpose if it does damage. It’ll turn into “use blitz on cooldown”. For PvP, it’s fine how it is tho.
"we just need to know what sucks" i fuck with that
My biggest issue with this game is how ridged and bad the animations look.

Way too little progress considering their production time. Understendable tho, as they are still in the INDIE category. I'm not expecting anything groundbreaking from them. If it will be a solid 7/10 MMO with a healthy playerbase (not expecting more than 30-40k concurrent lol), then I'm playing it. Looks decent.
