Finishing the Helmet: In Depth Tutorial | How to Make a Boba Fett Cosplay Part 2

- Опубліковано 8 лип 2024
- Welcome to Part 2 for How to Make a Boba Fett Helmet. These two videos of the helmet are a kickoff to a several part video series I will be uploading on how to create the Mandalorian Season 2 version of Boba Fett armor from start to finish.
This video covers an in depth look at getting the Boba texture from the Mando Season 2 repainted version, and some techniques for getting the metallics to show through and simulating a chipped paint effect. I include every color, and links below at where to find them, but I also include alternate color options.
I really want this playlist to be a one stop tutorial for making a full cosplay from start to finish.

This video was so well made and enjoyable I can’t wait for more episodes on this amazing build.
Thank you I really appreciate that! Several more in depth parts are being edited and will be on the way soon!
Thanks for the paint help!!!
Any time! Thank you!
This is the way!!!
Absolutely!
Thank you for sharing this awesome video series. Look forward to making my own Boba Fett.
I highly recommend it! I was really eyeing this costume, as it doesn't have a cod piece and is much more comfortable than many of the other Mandos, Clones, and stormtroopers. I went pretty cheap on my soft parts but upgrades and other options like that will be discussed in a future part. I hope to see your build once you start!
@@GalaxyBuilt Thank you. I have all of my soft parts sewn up. I have the gauntlets, helmet and jetpack left.
@@DMAbCD That is fantastic!
Very well done and in depth, even listed everything in the description, thanks 👍
Thank you so much!! Really try to provide everything you need.
Brilliant tutorial! Thank you so much for sharing this!
Absolutely! Thank you for the feedback!
DAMN your armor looks absolutely amazing, makes me want to build one myself
I think you should! My hope is for this tutorial to be in depth enough that anyone with a 3d printer can make one! Many more parts to this series will be coming out soon!
For my Boba Fett post-Sarlacc, weathered Boba, I used aluminium spray paint from Belton. German brand, worked like a charm. A good metallic base colour is the key. If I tried to do that with paint on aluminium, it would never have looked right.
I will be looking in to that I appreciate the suggestion!
To help avoid the stringing on the spray adhesive texture, I hold the nozzle down about half way so it is more of a spurt than a spray.
That’s brilliant! I love that idea. I’ll have to try it for sure!
@@GalaxyBuilt Happy to help! I used it on my Knights of Ren helmets and it worked like a charm.
For the dupli color truck bed liner should I use solvent based , water based , or premium??
The product that I used for the helmet is a solvent based product. Bothe the Rustoleum and Duplicolor truck bed liners have their differences. Definitely read the labels. Duplicolor cannot be applied in direct sunlight so it says.

Thank you for this awesome tutorial ! I hope the rest will release too! I do have one question : I’ve tried the liquid latex but mine is way too liquid and I can’t give it a “shape”, do you have any tip for that ?
That’s very interesting. Is it shaken up properly? You could potentially use a little bit of baby powder but I would recommend testing it on something else before applying to your final piece.
Thank you very much for the answer !
Thanks for the great video. I'm working on my second version of this Boba Fett.
Quick question - what paint colors did you use on the armor, shoulder bells, gauntlet, jetpack...?
Thanks in advance!
Thank you!

@@GalaxyBuilt Did you use a different green paint color for your chest armor and jetpack? Thanks!
@@johnliddle5801 I used the same green on the armor and jetpack yep!
The light beacon on your jetpack is on the wrong side. Switch with the other
You are correct. Couldn’t get it to fit on the other side the way the model was made unfortunately
Amazing… I’m going to start this project
That sounds super exciting! Hopefully I’ll be able to get more parts of this video series edited and uploaded soon!
@@GalaxyBuilt That would be really appreciated as I find your videos to be the best ones I have seen and certainly the most thorough and detailed. I know this takes a lot of effort and time but I know you are helping many others including myself.
I printed a book of boba fett version of the helmet and I think it is mostly the same as yours with just some of the damage areas in different spots… there may be more but I think I’m going to just follow what you did and relocate some of the damage marks. Unless you have any suggestions on making it more screen accurate to book of boba fett etc.. and again, thank you for doing all of this!
Definitely different damage and book of boba doesnt really have the texture either! Check out my bro Alexander Makes on Instagram he is @alexander_makes_ and he would be a great person to message for specific color choices and finishing techniques! Most colors should be the same as mine but the BOBF version does not have the texture!

@@GalaxyBuilt I reached out to him. Thank you for the help! His stuff looks amazing. Do you still prefer using the resin method for smoothing? I’m thinking of trying it.. never used resin and I understand it is pretty toxic.. I’m assuming it should work the same on PETG as PLA.
I do still use the resin quite often yes!! But lately I have also been watering down bondo glazing and spot putty with acetone to brush it on and I like that a lot too. You could also use a product called XTC 3D and its quite good for it as well!@@colinmsmall
where did you find the boba fett clothes looks like, pants and shirt i mean
There’s a lot of really nice and very expensive options out there but I went as inexpensive as I could with them still looking nice and I purchased the kit from sky costume and then mounted my own armor on it. There will be a video about soft parts soon!
I’m in the middle of painting right now and I’m wondering if you just wait for like a couple of hours before masking the back and cheeks and starting to mask the red.. or did you wait overnight? I’m wondering if it is risky to leave the masking on overnight and then starting the red..
It definitely varies between different paints but I would advise at least waiting overnight for the paint to dry before putting tape on it. If the paint is not set, masking tape will ruin the paint job when you go to peel it off.
@@GalaxyBuiltThank you for such a quick reply! I waited overnight to take the dome and front. I just did the cheeks and back and then I wondered what do I do now lol. Sounds like waiting overnight is a safe bet, I will do that. I wasn’t sure if waiting too long would hurt when pulling it off.
I did not have any issues with how long paint stayed on the piece as long as the paint had enough time to set before the tape!

How did you do the chest plate emblem and the shoulder emblem etc?
I made my emblems by taking png’s of the symbols and cutting them on a cricut to make stencils for painting them on. I’ll have a detailed breakdown once I am able to continue editing further parts of this series!
@@GalaxyBuilt oh that’s great. I didn’t realize you planned on uploading more videos for the build. I look forward to them. Thank you for creating the content and thank you for being so supportive.
As someone who’s used both is the do3d or the galactic armory look better? And which has better range finder mechanism
For the price, galactic armory is much better you get a lot more. DO3D is like twice the price. Also, galactic armory has done many updates since I bought the files that make it much more accurate. The reason I did the DO3D helmet file is that I felt galactic armory was not as accurate at the time. It’s better now. Galactic armory has a better range finder because it has a lip that allows it to stay upright without falling and you don’t have to use any magnets or anything. But in part 1 of this video series I show you how to make holes for magnets if you want to do that. Also, I have a discount code you can use to save 10%. GALAXYBUILT. I really hope this helps!
@@GalaxyBuilt thanks for the feedback I’ll be using ur discount thx so much
@@vanillagorilla6619 wow that’s awesome thank you so much! Also, the galactic armory files come with both the Mando season 2 style and also the Book of Boba style. Very different files. I’m excited to hear more from you on your progress!
Can you tell me where I can find stencils to paint the chest emblem and shoulder emblem? I looked on Etsy but it seems like it is mostly decals. How did you do it?
So i preferred not to do decals because its so obvious and they dont weather well. I made stencils myself on a cricut and cut them out for painting. Im aware there aren't really stencils available on Etsy so I am looking at filling that void myself, but I'm not sure I will have a store setup in time for it to serve you on this project. Do you have access to a cricut?
@@GalaxyBuilt unfortunately not. Are they expensive?
They can be yeah, but the cricut joy isnt too expensive, however it would be too costly to buy just for a project like this in my opinion. I would love to sell it to you. Can you hit me up on instagram DM's and I can sell you the stencils even tho I dont have the store setup yet?
@@colinmsmall
Sure sounds good I’ll message you there
