Last year i was welder in Kiel Shipyard and we was welding 335mm thick plates with 380A and Speed glass Optrel crystal view 2.0 failed shortly, sensors didn't work properly, heat started to deform plastic. So we used old fashioned welding mask with 13 DIN shade and finished the job. That's my experience
Wow , I´m very surprised that these filters gave up. The only alternative to automatic filters combined with PAPR´s i found yet are provided by ESAB. Check out the F20-F30 series!! ESAB Germany has a comparatively poor customer service, unlike 3M. Also these products are cumbersome to obtain because hardly anyone asks for them. they are no standard stock items. But very reliable and cheaper in price. Try it!
I’m repairing boilers with stick and fluxcore , a lot of confined space stuff so air fed is a must ! Great content and also great welding, very talented guy .
You're lucky to be working in a spot that can fit even a normal sized lid in there let alone an airfed, the last time indid any work in a boiler, a monkey mask was all that would fit and could squeeze into place to see what i was doing 😒👎
Hello there, I just found your channel today. I must say you do an awesome job of explaining your work. I first saw an Adflow hood from CEE Australia channel, and have wanted one since then. I am going to watch all of your other reviews about these welding helmets and figure out which one to buy. Thank you, Jim from Portland, Oregon USA
As far as cleaning the front screen goes heres a tip for you,buy a tin of Brasso wadding metal cleaner,it's a mild cutting agent and then use Polish such as Mr sheen.. works a treat.I've been a speedglas/adflo user for 20+ years now.I recently imported a 9002nc true colours as they aren't sold in the UK and fully adflo adapted it using genuine 3m parts.I've had the newer 9100 models but prefer what I'm used to.I only bought the 9002nc as I found out they'd re released it and I retired my still fully working 9002x.Great gear but 3m aftersales leaves a lot to be desired.....took me over six months to finally get a new heavy duty li-on battery as they were unobtainable for a while..
@@ARCONEWELDING You probably know but don't do what i did with the batterys.Always keep them on charge when not using them.I changed jobs and took my 9100FX with me but it sat in it's bag for over a year as i was doing cladding work. When i went to use it the battery had died and would not charge up.Replacement batterys are £130 a pop 🤨 which is crazy as they only use 3 18650 batterys.
I've never tried a 3M Speedglas helmet. My last three helmets have been by Optrel (I'm using the Crystal 2.0 right now). Have you tried the Optrel Crystal 2.0)? I'm interested in the three color options on the Speedglas G5-01 & 02 and the built-in grinding shield. Do you know if the lens in theG5-01 or 02 is as clear as the Optrel?
I have g5-01 and optrel crystal 2.0. 3M g5-01 is definitely not as bright as the crystal 2.0 in the lens department but it is still clear but dimmer compared to 2.0. I wouldn't care about the 3 shade option because I already like the blue filter already on the crystal 2.0 so I kept using the blue filter on my g5-01. built in grinding shield is a must in fabrication it will change how you work. I'm using g5-01 as my main welding helmet because there's burnt holes on my 2.0 and front lens is not clear due to usage. Though g5-01 has given me neck pain every week. I wish Optrel would drop a g5-01 alternative.
To protect myself from welding fumes I use a 3m respirator mask 6500QL + filters 2138, after I tried this combination - I can't weld without it anymore, absolutely recommend to any welder, plus it is really inexpensive compared to air fed welding hoods. I tried Speedglas Fx, but I wasn't impressed partly because it all was dusty with lots of scratches
Is it a pretty bulky mask? I love Honeywell pipeliner hoods and its very difficult to find a respirator that will fit because the hood sits so close to your face. Was considering going with the Optrel halfmask PAPR
@@kylejames255 3m 6500QL is quite slim mask, but recently I bought a 3m speedglas hood with Adflo PAPR system and I can tell that breathing with it is way easier than with 6500QL respirator mask. But when I have to weld in hard to reach confined space I still use 6500ql respirator. The standard welding hood I use I Finnish Evermatic hood, check it out it is an excellent and durable hood with flip front
I only just bought one a few months ago, but could still slightly smell fumes whenever I mig welded, that was until I bought a gas filter to go along with it and I couldn’t smell anything after that. My question to you is there much difference between the two types of gas filters? And how long do they generally last?
I think one is a gass filter and the other is a odour filter, the thick one is what you want and ive been running it for about 2years now and still works
Dual shield helmets are awesome , but if your in worko for 10 plus hours then go air fed system , but if out in field keep it simple and save a $$ or two ...I do shutdowns and I use the basis setup
How did you atached the leather to the hood? I use this mask at an shipyard in Scotland and if i dont use a hood i get flash burns on my neck. Leather looks more protective for welding without the hood especialy in the summer.
My g5-01 has a little gap over the head where the seal isn't sealing against my head. Is that the same with your g5-01? did you experience any problems on that?
I used a 9100. Dont know the exact one but i always found it as beeing too bright and my eyes would hurt. Even when on din 13 wich was the max setting. And usually 10 or 11 is good with my kemppi e90A helmet or my esab a40. Do you know why? Because i know that 3m has like 40 diffrent lenses for the 9100
Variable colour, i dont know what tw means but the vc has 2 additional colours u can set the screen to, instead of the green hue it tuens blue or orange, personally the blue is the best
I went to buy a G5-01 one, had order in for it etc. Then following morning I found out I have to wear company supplied Weldtec airfed mask. Which is such a shame, asked about if I gave them the mask in the original packaging if they could approve it for me to use and was just told no and had to cancel the order because I wouldn't use it outside of work.
