- Meet 22-year-old Johnathan, a senior accounts executive with a very expensive obsession. Outside of work John’s life is dedicated to cars, as are his mate’s. They all belong to the same online car community, and, like him, spend any spare time and money fueling their high octane lifestyle. He might earn a healthy £20,000, but he is £17,000 in debt and counting, mostly spent on customising and creating the ultimate show car.

Wish everyone who had money problems could be approached by such a dedicated team who dealt with the problem so systematically and from different angles . They should also teach budgeting in the schools .
Crazy how before £20k jobs were a decent salary. Nowadays if an employer doesn't fork out £50k it just isn't a living salary. £20k is what you earn as part time. Inflation, I tell you.
It's a year 2022 a single person can still live on less than $40,000 a year and live very well depends on what state you live in and you're spending happens
@Spudman ,
Which comment is nonsense the one I made or the one that Mo R made?. It is possible to pay rent or a house payment and a car payment on less than $40,000 where I live in Central Illinois I know people that are doing that and they are not getting government assistance
My dad earns £40k and we live a comfortable life.
@@RobLevers-gj1dj he must be very good with money
he doesn't do the work himself.... I think he should learn to do this work, and indeed make cars a career. Instead of paying, he could be making money. And doing what he loves.
I was thinking the same thing.
This is so Mid-Noughties Britain it hurts and I am absolutely here for it. Feel like Rihanna’s ‘Shut up and Drive’ should be playing with David Blaine in a perspex box above the Thames
Edit: Snow Patrol have started playing. They somehow made it more Noughties
Snow patrol are still around literally... Bumped into gary the singer at start of the year ☺
@@djfhfh A lot of us who were around in the mid 2000s are still around.
Once you start thinking of money not as a number, but as time you will begin to make far smarter financial decisions.
As someone who lives in Scotland / UK it’s soo weird to see someone smoking in the pub etc, because it just has not been a thing since I was like a teenager. It’s so early 200’s but I’m kinda here for it all
Smoking in pubs was banned in 2007 in England only 1 year later than in Scotland. Its not like there was a huge difference.
John is such a sweet guy. Shame that he broke up with his girlfriend but I hope his lifestyle changes gave him a happy life
he should've kept that MR2 especially if it was the Turbo model, those things clean are going for around $20K now
2:26 Sonic 06, NFS Carbon, Call of Duty 3, Test Drive Unlimited, Oblivion, Splinter Cell... Holy sh*t! What year was this episode shot? That’s a time capsule of games
51:18 "You left your mental blocks behind?"
"They are still in there"
"Cast into the wind havent they"
no.... no they havent, he just said so XD
When a car is meant to be a substitute for an actual personality. Fail.
Or an actual functioning dick...
Watching these spandaholics episodes, I keep getting baffled how they get in such debt due to luxury. How they cant be more responsible. And how these debts dont lead to more serious consequences much sooner
Well, if the consequences come too soon, it could affect people who aren't spending badly. Anywhere you live, you're always one or two paychecks away from being broke.
This docu is 15-20 years old lol so account for inflation on all that money. Wonder what this bloke is up to now...
Is Benjamin Fry a Vulcan from Star Trek? No emotions, never smiles and is dead boring.
Fantastic
He need to give me my money
The womb-red wallpaper in his bedroom 🤢
I’m not a big car person, but he wants to build his dream car out of a Fiat (Fix it again Tony)?! For someone who claims to have great taste in cars, he needs to acquire a better palate.
Spent all that money and he owns an MR2 ... poor soul. His mates must laugh when he takes it to the drag.
Oh lord, he got an MR2? I just started the video. I hate that car. A guy I knew when I was younger had one and he was just such a douche lol
@@Bi0sarz hey, it is quite a fun car for the money...but yes, why take it to the drag strip :))))
Senior account exec only making £20,000+ a year?? Sir you need a new job...
Lmao exactly
This was filmed around 2005
£54 k 😔 baked beans on toast for the forseeable .
6:54 Yeah must be what he thinks judging by the poster he chose to put on the wall.
easy way to stop hi m? tell him is a RICER
Viewing this in 2023 comes with a new light. Literally can't afford to run a car.
Oh no the European car scene is still living in the early 2000’s. Edit- I didn’t realize it was an old video until I watched it more 😂😂
It must have been filmed before 2007 as he was smoking in the pub
I've had friends that are all about status.
They've lost everything. Friends. $. Respect .ect.
This isn’t status, he buys cars out of passion, irresponsibly.
4:55 Fresh Cut Sandwiches?
Since when do I slice my peanut butter and jelly into slices
God a saxo with a body kit. Man this is sooo 2005 it hurts
30:00 sunk cost fallacy
6:54 LoL YES, he hopes so LoL. This is one of the guys Granny Jeremy Clarkson's went on about.
Music name pla
Music used at the beginning of programme is FATBOY SLIM RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW 😀👍💖
woah-
I get confused in these shows do they count food as essential or non essential?
True to that😅 I guess only the necessary items. Without food we cannot work & make money😂
This is so cool
Fiat? Hahaha! 😂 Scotty Kilmer will be very upset.
This guy looks like a younger “Sheldon” - Jim Parsons!
😂😂😂😂😂Sheldon has brains 🧠 and would never get into debt!! 😁 😁 😁 😁 😁
3 years too late, but a homemade pizza for 2 quid? Even 10 years ago that wasn't possible
This episode was almost 20 years ago now 😮
@@daCubanaqt Damn haha, maybe it was that cheap back then?
He spent all that money and those cars are so old and lame now. Just sad really.
Mazey DM Cars are terrible investments. Most of them anyway. If he’s going to pour his money into something, at least it should be something that he could invest his future in.
Hobby forums are an MLM marketing scheme
Senior Accounts Executive and only earns £23K a year?
Also, how old is this video?
Mr Ch33seHed i think it’s from 2006 cus sonic 06 was in the game store also u definitely can’t smoke in a pub anymore
Nuala Loughran and Windows XP on his computer
It's filmed before 2007 as smoking in pubs was banned in 2007
A show about spending to much money while spending thousands to drive home the point there spending thousands 😂
If they think that is alot of money DO NOT COME TO AMERICA on trucks round here the rim and tire setup can cost you 8500$
Trucks "round here?" "8500$?" You're never American.
USA is robbery in everything
An executive earns only 20k?
This is like 16 years old.
Filmed around 2005
Why isn’t he have sold the car that doesn’t even work🤔🤔🤔
Yes, sell the Nissan.
I need a therapy session from Benjamin. He always seems to get to the root of the traumas. He must be expensive.
Ben isn’t a psychologist or psychiatrist. He’s a “psychology coach”, whatever that means. I’ve heard the show introduce him as a self-help writer as well.
I don’t always like his approach because he seems to be planting thoughts by asking leading questions instead of open ended ones. That is not how a therapist would do it. It takes time to draw people out, but it’s a tv show so they don’t have a lot of time. I think the people on this show have to fill out questionnaires or something. There is no way that guy is that good. He’s so robotic.

It s not a new episode! Hey guys! I m boring
Sorry to hear you are boring.
I am bored watching this old episode.
Sell a car 🚗
A fool and his money are soon parted. Instead of putting so much money in the car, I hope he would put money into braces or Invisalign, since his teeth bother him
I’m confused... when was this filmed? He said “I earn all this money I could have bought a house” .... £20,000 is quite a low- average income. Also if he’s a ‘senior’ in his job he defo got screwed by his company. Please someone explain if I’m missing the point here xD
From other comments I'm guessing this was filmed in the early to mid noughties, so I hope that helps your confusion
This was filmed in 2006
so baffling that people struggle to comprehend this wasn’t filmed last week. literally just analyzing the music, hair styles, fashion, etc one could deduce this was filmed in the early 2000s. if that is too much, just look at the copyright date at the end.
@@jamnbryan1 The scene transition graphics alone would tell you the show was produced early 2000s 😂
Ever noticed , those people are always laughing once put to the test . They are all good people but need to do the maths of living a true life .
Money Spend
Follow up please!
If he built them and sold them for a profit. That would be better
His “healthy” base pay is 20 grand? Annually? What year was this in? Not saying you can’t live on that but I would exactly call that too healthy
Y T Suyin and Lin are characters from Avatar and Legend of Korra 😂 that’s an American show
Y T you didn’t read my comment? I said Suyin and Lin are cartoon characters. “Suyin Lin” isn’t my name. I’m not from China
Y T and no, 20,000 pounds wouldn’t make someone one of the wealthiest people on Earth.
Y T one of the wealthiest people on earth. I’m thinking billionaires lol. 20k makes you average/upper. I’m done anyway arguing with some no life german who’s probably the type to say “but tEchNicallY” lmao I’m just minding my business why you gotta be so annoying?😂
It was filmed around 2005
I can imagine americans looking at this and be like “wtf a Fiat Stylo” lol 😂
Why spend on Fiat of all cars. I get Fiats were huge at this time but as cheap economic cars
FiAT= Fix it again Tony.
Fiat are terrible and always were. He could at least get into debt for an Alfa Romeo 😂😂😂

Why don‘t you redo the series with money values from 2021? It‘s so difficult to understand these debts from 20 years ago. It seems all too cheap to me comparing to what life really costs today! A Porsche for 54.000????? Ahhahahahhaahah
this was filmed in 2006. they’re not going to reshoot the entire series just because you can’t do simple math to account for inflation. don’t watch anything filmed in the 1960s or your brain might explode
I just skip by the therapy stuff. Boring.
