Elder buff is awesome when you need alot of wood. Building , getting coal and to get finewood for portals. You should get a mace before you go to swamp, does extra dmg on som of the mobs and also on the boss there. Poison resist is also advised 😁
Hope you feel better soon. Yeah for the future bosses, you might want to remember to scout your surroundings first, ensuring there are no trolls or whatsoever around; that was just an unfortunate accident. You got lucky with the Elder getting stuck; although part of me thinks you're also unlucky you got off easy, since might now underestimate the difficulty of the future bosses :-P
Agreed. Biomes and bosses do not follow a linear difficulty progression. (The devs have said as much in interviews. That's intentional.) From Meadows/Eikthyr to Black Forest/Elder, is one step up in difficulty. The third biome and boss are about two full steps in difficulty above the previous.
Good advice here. I also build a portal nearby any boss fights. Not TOO close, hide it behind some rocks or or anywhere below sight. Also keep the fight around the altar pillars, the more you move away, the more unknowns gets thrown in.
'I need more Stamina. I need more Stamina' . . . and that is what the Tasty Mead was for 😉 Easily forgotten in the panic of a first boss encounter! Tasty Mead is the most overlooked item in Valheim . . . The health regen debuf is scary, but if you aren't getting hit it doesn't matter, and the Stamina regen is huge for letting you keep up the offense. And best of all, Tasty Mead doesn't have a cooldown . . . unlike other potions. You can spam it as necessary.
The Elder is good if you're in dire need of wood. If you already got you some wood, well, then you want something else. Maybe Eitktheir. Iunno how to spell 'at and I'm too snookered to care to look er' up. That's it. Oi! Btw, I'm not Bri'ish, I just type loike it when I'm snookered. Or maybe just when I don't giv' a rats' arse. Yea' at's eh one.
Bosses getting bugged and stuck on terrain is a thing that happens sometime in Valheim. But you got a good fight before that happened. The Troll and greydwarves were just random spawns that wandered into the fight. Usually its best to bring a Portal and set one up near the boss arena. Then you can hop back to base rest and eat and be all set to start the fight fresh. And if things go badly you can run away or come back quickly if you die.
As mentioned, scouting out the area first is a good idea, you can even put down some campfires or workbenches to prevent new stuff from spawning in. I also ended up having the Elder get stuck(And this was after I had set up this elaborate plan to battle him, which I never got to use.) The troll was just the luck of the draw. You'll need to find a marker for the next boss for him to show up on the map. They, along with him, will be found in the next biome.( which you have yet to stumble upon, and a clue to what it is lay in the name of the item you picked up from the Elder.). The Elder power is, at least in my opinion, the least useful of the lot unless you are heavy into building. The next biome will be a challenge, but its rewards are equally great.
Whenever you find a boss, particularly the Elder, you should scout around and take out any Greydwarfs and nests, as well as trolls which might be in the area. You don't want to be fighting other mobs while you are fighting a Boss.
Apparently, the Devs. have put a ramp up to the left side of the stone in the burial chamber so the skeletons can get up on the stone platform. I haven't yet tried it, but I would suggest using the hammer to put a cooking station (meat cooking rack) next to the stone to block them and also put a campfire for them to stand in while they are blocked...
That is correct. It used to be a safe spot; imagine my surprise when a skelly hopped up there with me. A cooking station stops them, until they get annoyed enough to smash it.
You were unlucky having so many greydwarves and a troll, but yes it does happen!! I suspect there was a nearby spawner, it's always best before engaging a boss to do a run round the area and see if there is anything that you should take out before engaging the boss. It's a shame really because you were doing so well in the fight before the Troll and Greydwarves, The Elder getting stuck at the end was a bonus though, Odin was watching over you 😉 Bosses in Valheim do not despawn, they remain up until you kill them. Eikthyr buff is the best to use for the reduced stamina cost when running/jumping, but if you were to build another base at any point (or you needed a lot of wood), it's useful to then use the Elder buff, it's situational. Great episode.
Congrats on the Elder kill! :) Now the real fun begins. Ressources will come easier once you start going into the swamp, but go prepared. And NEVER without poison resistance potions! (slight spoiler warning below) . . . Speaking of prepared, that boss fight was nuts. Personally I've always overprepared my boss fights. For this one, I dug a trench around the whole area with my pickaxe to make myself a moat to keep uninveted guests out, and I raised pillars of earth with the Hoe (raise ground) to give myself additional cover to get behind when he shoots out his vine thing. Btw, if I may suggest something - perhaps a bit urgent, if you haven't already done it - spend some time on your main base defences (use the above description as inspiration). Because now that you've killed the Elder, you are at risk of getting raided by trolls... But as all non-flying mobs, a moat or earth wall will keep the enemy at bay. At least at this level :)
Glad you are on the mend. The advice to clear the area around a boss before fighting them is good advice. Now that you have portals I recommend setting up a portal hub (maybe on that island?) . I'm a big fan of marking a few good 'resource runs'. These are areas with good amounts of resources you can't grow yourself: raspberry and mushrooms, blueberry and thistle. Other biomes will have their own resources runs. The intent is to have a place to portal in, make a run to pick up all your resources (previously marked on the map) . Have a portal at the end of the run too for even easier gathering or make a resource loop.
For Greydwarf Shamans, let them come close to you, they have to stop and take a big breath before breathing out poison. Let them start this sequence, then move to the side and around to their back and kill them with a mace or sword, etc. They are pretty easy to handle this way.
The powers are situational. Unfortunately, there's no situation where the Elder forsaken power is useful. Stick with the stamina one until you kill the swamp boss. You'll use the swamp boss forsaken power into endgame.
- Trolls are attracted by the ruckus of the fight but they do not always appear. I think it is a proximity thing. Have not seen the Elder glitch like that before but good job nonetheless! - The Elder power is the least useful of them all, in my opinion. The power that the next boss will provide you though is one of the best!
I usually do not talk to Hugin outside of Crypts, that way he pops up whenever i am close to one. Any bossfight have the potential to attract other buddies too so it is not surprising that Frank (the troll) decided to join the party lol. You did very well - The Elder power is usefull if you have tons and tons and tons of trees to cut down. You can switch between the powers also, might be a good idea to have a portal that goes straight to the boss stones (Spawn) - Hope you feel better soon
Hope you feel better soon Caster! Trolls / grewdwarves joining in the Elder fight is not that uncommon, shame that he glitched out to the degree he did, it was a great battle up to that point, but don’t blame you for taking the win presented on a plate like that. Good luck with the swamp! 😂😂👍👍
Thanks @seadog8807 I was enjoying the fight and was a little disappointed, but at the same time, it got the boss done. I'm looking forward to the swamp 😬😅👍
You were so unlucky and lucky at the same time! Haha. The troll is not part of the fight, you just happened to have one wander on you. Then him getting stuck! You were hitting him with your bow, you had just run out of fire arrows. Bukeperries have a use; they clear out your current foods so you can eat new ones if you want to change foods. Part of weapon damage is based on your skill with it. If you have a really low skill, it won't do as much as it could. Oh, and really good with your parrying. I still haven't mastered that, usually just block everything. Next up, Swamps. >:)
Glad you're feeling a bit better! Food is super important for your stats so you REALLY need to get a farm going - don't eat your carrots just yet! Plant your seeds (watch your spacing), then plant the carrots to get more seeds, and once you have done that a few times you'll have a surplus for feeding yourself (and feeding your boars if you start a boar farm) without running out. Keep this area well protected so your crops don't get destroyed - nothing worse than seeing a troll smash a weeks worth of crops! You'll really need the best foods to get a foothold in the next biome before you find & unlock it's new foods. Your stats from food start dropping well before they run out, so you want to top-up for bossfights (watching you go in on the elder with only half-food was torture!) & make sure you have extra at your spawn point so you can rest and eat before getting back in the fight (you will need a lot if you die frequently so farming a good supply is critical). Bukeperries are to reset your stats - you puke up everything so you can eat a better meal. Looking forward to the next vid! :)
The troll was unlucky 😅 You can use the elder ability to cut wood faster good to farm wood. the next biom The Swamp, will be the place for youre new base, have a new portal ready and set sail. p.s. The Swamp is wet and deadly, the night there is scary and prepare poison resistance meat for the trip
Not a spoiler since you already know about taming animals but I've found in Valheim and MC the easiest way to catch animals is digging a deep hole. Sure there are prettier ways to do it and I'm sure there's plenty of guides but that's what I do
Every time you die you lose 5% of your skills . It doesn't sound like much but it adds up , and your skill level gives you some realy good bonus modifiers . Even the devs have said ' sometimes you just have to run away ' . To find Bonemass your going to have to explore till you find it
The troll was just a nearby mob that you got too close to when running away from The Elder. It isn't part of the boss battle. With the boss powers, the Elder one is pretty rubbish - stick with Eikthyr for the time being. As for finding the other boss locations, they won't appear unless you find the Vesvigir stones within their biomes (like the one for Eikthyr in the spawn circle). Bukeperries are only useful if you want to quickly change foods, rather than waiting for your consumed foods to start flashing.
Oh boy. Weird Elder fight, lucky break there. The next area is arguably the biggest difficulty spike in the game and is probably the point when the highest number of players give up. The way to conquer it is by playing as smartly as you can. Preparation is everything. Tips that would have helped you here and will help you even more going forward: don't carry a large volume of your best food with you. Just carry 2-3 of each and leave your big stacks at home, then re-eat from those when you respawn. Make the stamina potions as well as health ones. Much better than tasty mead. Set up another portal at home ahead of time and then have mats with you to put down a portal near something you know will be hard like a boss or dungeon. Lastly, there's another mead you can make that's absolutely critical to surviving the next area. Good luck!
Btw, bloody nora, I think I've heard that before somewhere. Don't worry, if you are who I'm pretty sure you are, I'm a fan. Happy to see you playing an awesome game. Just trying to play it coy, just in case you don't want the attention.

There are no glitches in Valhiem; only Odin's favor or disfavor!

Make the cultivater and turn the carrots into seeds, you get 3 seeds per plant, just keep using some carrots for seeds each time.
