3:21 this is actually her most insane whistle ever, you have to slow it down to hear each note separately, it's so fast you can't even tell.
For real those runs were insane
C6/c#6 is an interesting place in Mariah’s voice because it literally sounds like a mix of head voice and whistle.
Upper head voice - flute register.

As a fan of both opera and Mariah, I see no reason to pit them against one another as several in the comments have. Opera singers are going to convey musicality far differently than a pop/R&B singer. Especially since they are mostly unmiked. (Apparently some opera houses do have mikes on the stage but most don't.) I love when you do these videos, because it does show how easily Mariah could have been an opera singer in another life. (And indeed, I'm sure if she was ever asked, she could do an opera song.) Videos like these also make me wish opera singers would cover more popular current music. I would love to hear one of them cover "Love Takes Time" or "Can't Let Go." (It seems most opera singers stick to the standard American songbook or more opera.) (Well, Mariah will be in the American songbook soon enough, so we'll get an opera star cover a song of hers one of these decades.)
FOREVER, I STILL BELIEVE, LEAD THE WAY are sounding like Opera songs with many long notes and breath support.
While sure Mariah could sing opera if trained, I don’t see any proof in this video for her as you say being able to sing an aria when asked.
@@KajiVocals her singing sugar plum fairy is the closest thing we got to an « aria » . I do wonder what her voice would’ve sound if properly trained
I do think her mother being an opera singer influenced her singing very much. This video opened my eyes on how much. Mariah would emulate her mother as a kid. I'm sure she picked up alot of what her mother did back in the day.
I'd love to hear opera singers try to cover her song H.A.T.E.U.
She's so amazing. There will never be a vocalist with Mariah's, tone, timber and versatility.
I agree. Mariah is an extraordinary singer.
They all SLAYEDDDD. Different techniques but all of em sound great🔥🔥
I like the fact that Mariah can hit all the notes without sounding like an opera singer. That's what makes her unique.
I’ve always loved Mariah’s whistle register, and I’ve been enabled with those who have that ability. But this is so interesting to me: all of the opera notes are so loud and heavy. They do nothing for me. It’s really all about the tone and built in melodics of Mariah’s voice that just have me in a chokehold! Love her!
You do realise that opera is sung with no amplification right... Of course it is gonna be loud or at very least projected. A squeak won't project across an opera house. Or a small room full of people for one. Mariah's most technically proficient whistle register was in her earlier years (1990-1992). After that, her closure started lessening which in effect added to the damage on her voice.
@@KajiVocals yes mariahs whistle became more airy especially in the rainbow era where its not even audible some times
@@KajiVocals Mariah's whistles/ falsettos even get easily drowned by WHITNEY'S regular BELTING/operatic HEADVOICE
She got range but SADLY 😭no POWER
@@Swahili14 Whistles as done by Mariah are the volume of a whisper, at most speaking tone. Of course they’ll be overpowered by actual projected vocals. Whistle can be truly projected but not the way Mariah does it.
@@KajiVocalsThis doesn't sound like the volume of a whisper or speaking tone

Mariah Is a Goddess of Whistle notes Omg 😳❤️
4:12 was a straight up eargasm omg
I love classic music but i'm not a fan of opera. It's a little bit to much for me. I love more voices like Mariah, they are powerful too but more sweet.
Opera has a lot of gentle, sweet moments. There’s many styles and genres of opera. You can’t really put it in one box.
@@KajiVocals i still don't like opera no matter what. It's not my type of music.
@@dinasilva9263 Opera is literally a form of musical theatre… How much opera have you heard to make such statement?
@@KajiVocals sorry, I don't like it. Just because you like opera that doesn't mean i have to like it too.
@@dinasilva9263 Answer the question, "How much opera have you heard to make such statement?"
Don't forget "all in your mind rehearsal." that was mind blowing.🤯
the fact that the opera singers sound like the notes there hitting are so high while mariah's whistles sounds like she be singing in her mid range
That's because they're using different techniques
Mariah will poop her pants if she sings this with head voice.
Pop singers sing with a lower octave. I felt purely amazed when I heard this last week. Something is unfair in this world😂😂😂😳

3:14 these staccato runs!!
Mindblowing
Hmm i dont think its fair to compare profesionally trained opera singers to Mariah since its not even the same genre at All and of course the opera singers Sound Better im Also an opera fan but Mariah is still one of the best ever singers to have lived there Will never be a comparison to her voice nor talent she is a true prodigy 🥰
The fact that mariah could do opera of she wanted to because her mother was a opera singer
But her dream become a pop singer
4:02 that smirk of superiority was so satisfying
Mariah´s falsetto voice to whistle but opera singers do it with their head voice
*please, stop comparing dubbed vocals with authentic opera vocals*
Opera and a whistle note are completely different! I will forever love Mariah...BUT, a Soprano is another level of singing.
They are worse than Mariah ! For real! 😂😂😂
Ok but 3:34 😍😍😍😍 that staccato
One of her simpler too. True coloratura sopranos (and ones with well-developed registers at that like Erna Sack there) are a rarity.
Top coloraturas
Mado Robin
Katarzyna Dondalska
Erna Sack
Natalie Dessay
Joan Sutherland
Others Diana Damrau, Edita Gruberova, Gianna Rolandi, Roberta Peters, Ruth Ann Swenson
Other Amazing high Coloraturas
BEVERLY HOCH, MARIA REMOLA, INGEBORG HALLSTEIN
ELIZABETH VIDAL
MADY MESPLE
LILY PONS
BOGNA SOKORSKA
ALLA SOLENKOVA
of all whistle singers Minnie Riperton sounds most operatic
Bela Rudenko and Elizabeth Parcells also are awesome high sopranos.
Mariah’s whistles have a sweet and angelic tone, lots of resonance and vibrato, she can go up and down that register with smooth agility. The opera singers use a FULL ON head voice which sometimes can come on too strong and sound strained. Technically they’re not bad but I much prefer Mariah’s tone and control.
They used whistle register from G#6 here
Sameee
Her whistles are so beautiful
Some of these sound so similar yet so different.
Because half of them are a strong whistle (flageolet). Same mechanism but more developed.
@@KajiVocals which is bad technique. Most of these high notes on the video done by opera singer are done with bad technique.
@@Ignasimp Flageolet is not a bad technique when done properly. Erna Sack and Ingeborg Hallstein did it wonderfully. No register is ‘bad technique’ when done properly. Dessay is the only one from the higher end in this video who used head register up there. But she probably shouldn’t have. Too high. Too pulled.
@@KajiVocals Flageolet is just a thin and squeezed headvoice. It is bad technique. Those who use it end up developing muscles in their neck that constrict the larynx, instead of using the proper muscles designed to phonate.
@@Ignasimp You are incorrect. Flageolet is the M3 laryngeal vibratory mechanism (whistle) with a high degree of adduction. It was extremely common in opera in the nineteenth century. Tetrazzini spoke of it in some of her papers. She herself has used it on some occasions. True high head register is uncommon past the high F. And even that’s a scream for most people. And your second statement makes no sense. Just sounds like you’re repeating the TiO dogma.
The comparison is over, Mariah can go even higher
📌I know Mariah can go higher If she wanted to💙
Opera is just a little too much for me.
i love opera, not just females, Baritones 😭
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was waiting for this
Embrace yourselves for the salty opera fans
Why would you set your favorite up in a video? 💀
Absolutely amazing dahling GivethanXxo 🙏💪🥰😍
Mariah’s first C6 reminds me of Cissy Houston’s high note in Ain’t No Way
The song (It’s a Wrap) is sampling “Aint No Way”
I just needed Callas’ D6 from Armida to demolish the world.
Operiah
Mariah is great. I am her greatest fan
But I don't see why there's a competition between her and the Operatic Sopranos. It's a completely different technique and register.
In opera whistle tone is usually not counted a soprano has to project Thier voice well in to the register using Thier head voice.
So most of what you saw like Mado robin B6 and Eena Sack were not actually whistles but Thier head voice.
Whistle is not as powerful and as loud as the head voice and that is one of the criterion for a soprano in opera (power). There's no mic so you have to sing loud enough for the whole audience to hear
0:40 - ah yes, just her beautifying those horrendous singers 😰😰
I think everything there, including the Mariah note was a bit much.
it's kinda weird to compare them because opera singers use a heavily coordinated head voice while Mariah is just using the extensions of a falsetto (disconnected head voice, whistle)
but at some point, the weakness of the whistle register somewhat sounds better at some point because it doesn't feel overwhelming cause head voice can sound overwhelming sometimes yeah
Because the opera singers in this video have very bad technique. They have no depth.
No Mariah used flageolet connected whistle register that’s why she could enter easily to her head range
3:50
Wait... Where are the rest? Keep going... Mariah can go higher than these. 😐
Mariah 💯
Incredible that these Singers can hit that we oth Falsetto.
0:41 That note was operatic. That it feels like a head voice
that is head voice.
Head voice. But not operatic lol. Having vibrato =/= operatic.
@@KajiVocals loved the =/= lmao hahaha
@@KajiVocals that's.definitely falsetto
It's shame if that is also a HEADVOICE
@@Swahili14 😂
1:06 this note (i mean her approach) has always sounded odd to me, shrill and nasal.
oh i can't choose
It's impressive that Mariah can sing so high with so much control, but I just don't hear the same expertise. These opera singers aren't even using a mic and still have a large, explosive whistle register that they can PROJECT way over an orchestra. Mariah's seems more.. stylistic? I feel that people will automatically say Mariah's are better due to her singing pop and having amazing tone, but when you compare opera to pop, the opera singer's inevitably going to blow them out of the water with technique and power.
This is by far the most logical comment I’ve seen under a Mariah Carey video!
Thank you!
Most of the opera singers in the video were using very bad technique though.
@@Ignasimp Not most. But a few.
@@Ignasimp Some women were better than others, sure. But I think you need to study classical music before saying they used bad technique. They're singing without mics and have to project over a busy stage. They have to balance projection and volume against the high note, where as Mariah just had to hit the notes.
Airy and breathy tones like the technique Mariah uses is actually considered a highly damaging, fatal flaw in Opera. And this isn't even something debated among professionals, you can google and immediately see the proof.
Mariah sounds great but healthy technique is a different story. Most of these women were technically correct imo.
@@KajiVocals I agree. I think contemporary music has invaded the singing topic so much that people don't recognize proper, tried and true operatic technique.
All slayed
Show.. lindo ❤️💕 parabéns Maríah Carey
C#6 sounds polyphonic... Damn Mariah!
0:53 thought this was the Eurovision intro
0:45 I so thought Infinity's hv was ab to show up instead--
Opera is so strident yet somehow Mariah can make it soft, and velvety. But she can also match the percing, metallic ping if she desired but still maintain her agility and vibrato. And then do it all while phrasing actual lyrics. Perfecto.
Lol Mariah Carey will POOP HER PANTS if she sings this with her head voice. Too much forte and the orchestra is too loud.
First to comment "first" 😝
😞😤 i was late
I'm curious though how do I make a whistle? I can hit the note g#6 but idk how do you make whistles up there that's my thing I'm new never had vocal lessons so yeah..... but I'm just curious
Work on your head voice before you attempt whistles. Whistles are known to ‘cannibalise’ your range when practiced early.
Would be wonderful compare Mariah's Eb6 with Callas Eb6
Which one? Aida 1951? Sempre Libera 1951 or 1952? They are a lot more powerful than Mariah tho.
0:41 What is that show? Doesn't look like Mariah

Mariah’s whistle is more pleasent to hear. Opera singer hurts the ear a little
The clip choice by Thi Hills Music was not that good. There's better and more beautiful examples of notes in this range out there.
the opera singers use a different technique . I can't explain it but I believe Mariah has a vocal chord anomalie whereas the opera singers trained their chords and use them as they would with "normal" notes. thus they don't whistle.
@@jollyjokress3852 Yes, and no. It is a different technique but same mechanism. It IS a whistle register. Just with more vocal fold adduction and a different acoustic strategy. As for Mariah having an 'anomaly', that's not true. She has nodules, yes. But the form of whistle she uses is just one of the few registrations in the whistle mechanism (M3 laryngeal vibratory mechanism). It's not something exclusive to people with nodules.
@@KajiVocals Oh okay, good to know. -- It is only what I have heard, that something is up with her chord that is either extremely rare or an anomaly.
Sure whistle sounded a lot more easier than actual head voice. Mariah has undeveloped head voice. She will poop her pants if she sings opera.
These two sing beautifully and did the original justice. Think of the many hours of rehearsals necessary to perfect their performance.
O da mariah é mais doce e leve, icônica como sempre.😽 Acredito que ela tenha mais notas, mas claramente ela não tem precisão de pôr nas músicas dela rs..
2:00, it actually looks like she forgot to active her magical whistle button.
Are the opera singers singing in the whistle register too? their notes sound more full while Mariah's sound more airy.
Yes, some do. Past a certain pitch head voice becomes near impossible to control.

Professional opera singers will ALWAYS be better than pop singers, classical operatic training is hard and consistent plus they can only rely on chest and head voice which is harder (getting up to a C6 in pure head voice than whistle, for example) so, Mariah has NO comparation to an opera singer

Mariah is not an opera singer, she couldn’t take leontyne price joan sutherland eva ponselle or much less maria callas in full voice and ornamentation. Two different types of music. Callas is greater than Carey. 😼😌⛈️❤️
Nah.
In the operatic style it is, but in popular singing none of them come close to Mariah, her range is greater, she has the bass, the treble, the beltings, the agility, the melismas, all of this makes her among the three biggest singers of history
@@ThekingOfMonsters1954in terms of range yes, she beats them all because she has whistle. But Mariah will poop her pants if she sings opera. How many times she needs to lipped her performance? How many times she dodged her high notes? Her voice was damaged by singing her own songs lol.
But in terms of agility Opera singers takes it. She was able to sing fioritura without breaking the legato lines even added trills and she sang them in FORTISSIMO, pulling out pianissimo or even diminuendo at the top of their range, pulling out trills on messa di voce (Callas and Sutherland). In terms of chest voice Mariah can't beat again Callas and Rosa Ponselle. They have more solid and bigger low register and they sound like man.
