I must say, I absolutely *LOVE* that F5 in "Hero"; it comes out of nowhere and takes you by surprise and it proves that she is a beast in the upper belt; even outside of her prime!
i think if vocal ability is considered i personally believe her prime is '90-'04 (butterfly had struggle & rasp but she still could slay daydream style)

Butterfly is wayyy more agile than daydream and she gained rasp ! Butterfly is basically a raspy mature version of daydream so still her prime

Mariah Carey Fan I just listened to it and it's kind of hard to tell. I will say this, her voice is flawless during the rest of the performance (the resonance in her belts were astounding and her head voice soared!); it wouldn't be too shocking if she did. After all, she did touch G5 in "Make It Happen" at Sydney in 1998.
i'm happy to see his video because butterfly's my fave album and era! and i know her live vocals weren't like totally amazing during this era, but this proves that they were still pretty good. like, the F5 in vision of love at 13:25 really shocked me bc it sounded really good! but anyways, love the video and LOVE the editing!

Her vocals for me started to "deteriorate" around 1999-2000 not 98 because although her rasp was a bit more noticeable, she still belted all the "crazy notes" and stuff like Agility,range and riffs/runs were still there just less ease.

no, you would hear a transition if it was hv. it's a low whistle. 18:44/18:45 the D6 has the same airy quality as the rest of the whistle. hv would be less airy, more full-bodied/have a thicker quality.
I don't think this is the best era though, her voice was really deteriorated (the worst state of her voice even worse than the 2010's). I think the best eras are the Music Box and Daydream Era since they featured the best vocals and further improvement of technique after the Debut and Emotions Era, since those two aren't bad but her belts are quite pulled and not as supported, but the best part of those two are her transitions from her chest register to her whistle tones. But I also loved the Glitter, Charmbracelet, and The Emancipation of Mimi Era, since she recovered in 2001 her rasp stayed but her high notes are clearer than what it was in the late 90's

Butterfly was pretty inconsistent as said by @ocandro as she was sick during the tour and had some issues in some times during '98 but had pretty great vocals throughout 1997-1998. With one of my comments suggesting that Butterfly was worse than the 2010's, that isn't necessarily true. 2010's had a lot of stamina but still doesn't compare to Butterfly in terms of overall vocals. Another relevant thing I wanna add is that I now think that Music Box is better technique-wise than Daydream as Music Box had better overall support, vibrato, and resonance. Daydream featured really difficult vocals (MSG really carried the era) but was often pitchy in some occassions and was a little too nasal in others. So I conclude that Music Box *is* her best era. As for everything else, I have nothing I want to change apart from the punctations, formatting, and just separating the statement into 2-3 paragraphs cause that A LOT.
