    I read a lot of questions and comments about what was going on:
    - Sparrows were difficult to use due to the sheer volume of targets. The only way to pull off a missile frag was to single out opponents.
    - Ammo, it was limited so there was absolutely no chance to take down every single fighter.
    - Altitude and speed are your only hope but taking any plane in a head-on is a HUGE mistake.
    - The sheer number of planes is difficult, even if you singled one out if there's a single prop in the vicinity it's still very dangerous.
    - A better pilot. I don't fly very often outside of GRB so this was difficult anyway. Someone like Defyn doing this would be far more entertaining!
    It was a lot of fun, thanks Muffin for inviting me! Looking forward to the Abrams vs. Tigers where I have a bit more expertise!!!

    Interesting. Ussually bombers are easy targets because they are big and slow but here, everyone is big and slow. The advantage the bombers have in turrets does make it more dangerous and is what killed both F-14s here. If we’re were relying solely on fixed guns, the F-14s would have scored more kills.

      Well, the bomber in question was a TU-4, which is technically cheating as it was not a ww2 plane, (first flight in 1947) and is one of the most well defended bombers in game, with 23mm cannons instead of .50 cals. It sits at 8.0 for good reason, and in my opinion, shouldn’t have been allowed.

    If I remember correctly back in the early 60s the uk decided to do something similar to this by pitting a late model spitfire against the electric lightning in a series of mock dogfights since at the time they were engaged in a series of skirmishes called the Indonesian confrontation. The Indonesians had a large number of p51 mustangs wich had similar performance to the spitfire. They discovered that piston engined planes make for terrible targets for infra-red homing missiles, especially when fired from behind. To make matters worse the massive speed difference actually worked in the spitfires favor since it made it much harder to accurately hit it. If the electric lightning slowed down to much to try and compensate the spitfires massive maneuverability advantage meant it would almost always win.

    The WW2 aircraft didn't use an old air tactic that was used in real life for situations like that. They should have flown a defensive circle, also known as a wheel formation. That's when a group of aircraft all fly in a circle, evenly spaced along it. The idea is that when an opponent tries to pick out one plane from the formation, he puts himself in front of one or more of the others that are following it around. It would have prevented the F-14s from finding targets that were alone. That tactic dates back to the first world war, and has been used ever since because it never stopped working.

    I don't know if the game factors this in but part of what helps a missile lock onto a plane is the heat generated by frictions as the plane flies through the air. Since the WW2 planes are slower it stands to reason they generate less heat and maybe that was part of why the missiles had a hard time locking on.

    • @plasmaxl8626
      @plasmaxl8626 Рік тому +2

      Not friction, as it doesn't generate nearly enough heat for a lock. Its just the type of engine that matters, meaning that yes, its harder to lock onto wwII planes bc they don't use jet engines which produce much more heat

    The one issue with using air-to-air missiles is that, depending on missile type, they either rely on tracking a heat source, or obtaining a radar lock.
    Heat seekers are programed to ignore heat sources below a certain temperature range in order to avoid them locking onto low heat source objects such as ground vehicles.
    Prop planes do not generate a heat signature high enough for a2a missiles to lock on to.
    Radar lock missiles are programed to ignore anything travelling below a certain speed, so as a prop plane can fly below this speed, those are also useless.

    Hey muffin I hope you read this comment. I enjoy your war thunder videos, and I know you moved on from wot blitz. But I'm pretty sure I'm speaking for a lot of people when I say you should continue the movie series where you made a plot on wot somehow. Not sure if you forgot it or not but you left us on a huge cliff hanger for 1 year now. And you did a great job making it, so it also just doesn't settle right with me to just accept that it is dead. Thanks for reading this
