- The Spotify Algorithm is your #1 best tool to break as an artist. It is doesn't cost you anything, you don't need to do any promotion and if your track is good enough it will get pushed out to more people organically.
In this video I explain the Spotify algorithm, how it works and how you can use it to your advantage.

All of this advice is dependent on having good music. The music always comes first.
yeah ur right, good music then streams and followers will come next
Good music still isn't a guarantee your music will go viral.
@@GamingNostalgiaRemastered it depends what you call good music
Good music is super subjective. What you think is your worst track could get picked up. Just release music you are proud of.
Algorithms are like XTC, you never know when it kicks in, but when it kicks in, it kicks in hard af
This is pretty cool info! I used to work for BMI & started a channel talking about the business/royalty side of music. I definitely gotta send some people your way when it comes to marketing music! :) Keep it up!
Amazing, subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work!
@@Burstimo Aww thanks! Looking forward to future videos from you!
I just subbed to your channel. I got my music published thru my bmi company wsx publishing
I subbed you both!

Absolutely
I happened to be listening and reading this comment right as he said that. hahaha

Thanks for the continued support :) 🙏
👍
This was super, super helpful. I greatly appreciate you guys taking your time to put us all at ease 💛
Nice video,
One of my tracks is pushing hard by algorithms right now. It’s exactly what you saying! The algorithm is pushing the track more and more.
This is the video that I was needing! Thank you, Alex, great tips to get my Spotify algorithm in the next 8 weeks!
Thank you, very good help! Blessings!
Thank you for sharing this valuable information on Spotify playlists. You came up very high in the search results when I was looking for help on getting my music onto Spotify playlists. I love your videos.
I’ve been binge-watching your videos. This is one of the best. 👍🏼

I just released my song yesterday and I’ve been wondering how to get it around. This definitely helped! Thank you.
Great information as always- thanks! Bearing in mind that even beginning to try & understand algorithms is the absolute antithesis of being inspired to play & create music. To create beautiful music my mind is thinking of burning incense on stage, adding finger cymbals or cello to my tracks, which shirt will look good with this pink sparkle Telecaster, can I afford that velvet jacket for our next gig etc. (Prince, Elton, Stones, Bowie etc.)...
All good advice, but I think the best here is to keep releasing and staying consistent. Consistency is key and it takes a long time to build things up into a large audience and sustainable income. The more music and value you put out into the world, the more it will come back and eventually help pay for your life.
100 💯
🙏
My song came out on Spotify and iTunes yesterday! Really excited thanks for the tip!
The best Video about how spotify playlists and algorithm working I have ever seen!
Burstimo is the best thing ever for music marketringv
so much value in this video!
A 1000 streams would be success for me. I get like 5.
same😅
Thanks a lot for the info. I have never been picked by the algorhytm, and was considering paying for playlist promotion, thank you for talking me out of it and explaining why:)
Thanks for explaining n' breaking it all down!! Very useful! 🙏🙏🙏😎😎🤘🤘
This is the best learning video yet in my opinion.
Wow thank you so much!
I feel like you guys are doing a really solid job.
Thank you!
A very useful video. We are also in the process of releasing our first official track.
I wanna thank you for all this information!!
Wait what?
Just found out now I had not subscribed, but I've been following this channel for a couple of months 😂
Excellent content!! such a clear to-the-point explanation. I'm going to apply for my July release - wish me luck :)
Thanks that's the only real thing I have heard in awhile !
Super useful- especially the time frame. We landed a few great playlist placements (Birp.fm etc) and have been happy with our initial streams but were worried that we have 0% from algorithmic plays. Appreciate the great info
No worries, Birp.fm is a good one! Very legit and organic. Yep just give it some time, keep filling in submissions such as Indiemono where the genre matches.
Just discovered this channel, seems like a goldmine of information! Subbed!

🎉 been getting a lot more exposure since Spotify tracks have been released. Worth the wait!
THE MOM AND DAD LISTENING TO THE TRACK 😂
thanks! this is really helpful, just checking you blogs, very valuable info1!
Great video as usual 😊 Big fan of ur channel. I know an artist can submit only one song at any time to spotify editorial playlists (three weeks in advance to the release date). How does one know if the submission has been reviewed and if they can upload the next song for submission? I feel this is a serious limitation of how frequently one can release singles via Distrokid. What is your opinion on this? Have u managed two artists with the Musician Plus account? Would you know if both artists can submit to spotify submission separately? Any help would be much appreciated.
If you've been wrongly categorised, or been playlisted wrong - how do you rectify it?
I really can’t believe my song got 10k streams monthly 😭
@SORRYNOTSORRY! 😹😹🤝🏿
@SORRYNOTSORRY! are your tracks professionally mixed? Do you need help with that? I do mixing/ mastering...
mate ur getting like $100 a month jeez

Regarding Spotify: Do you have any videos on how to treat an album in particular vs how to treat singles? I love your videos but it’s difficult to know if I should just treat the individual songs on an album with the same methodology as the way you guys go about treating just a single release. I know some of the tips are time sensitive so it’s a little confusing. The best I can assume is to pick a few “singles” from the album and follow all of the steps as if they were just single releases? Please help 😀
Damn good information. Thank you Sir.
This is all awesome information and explained really well
Thanks for this
Thanks that was helpful. I shall give it a go
Thx for the info this is awesome content🥂I was stressing cuz the Spotify algorithm playlists is at 2% but its only been 4 days since my release 🙏🏼 hopefully its gonna bump with time.
It can take up to 8 weeks to kick in, don't worry!
Be patient
Thanks Mr. Burstimo
more great thoughts!!

Amazing. Thank you
Hey Burstimo, you say we should look for playlist placements at the begining of the release, but playlist stream are not good for the save rate. Indeed, people often listen to a playlist without paying attention on what specific track they're listening to. Don't you think the balance between these two parameters (playlist adds increasing VS save rate decreasing) actually penalizes the release ? I'm asking you this because this is what I understand from Andrew Southworth videos, who's more in favor of using Facebook ads to boost the release.
Very informative. Good video.👍👍🎹🎹
great video and explanation
Hey there, short question: Will the algorithm still fire for a new track, when there was a large decrease of followers (based on non-organig playlists) like half a year ago? Thanks man.
Discover Weekly and Release Radar really shot my music up and I'm grateful
Whats in your opinion a good release rate? Every 2 weeks, every week? Thank you
Thank you for all the information and advices!!! It’s Very useful!! Eli Alvarado from Argentina❤️🤗🎶🎶🎤
Your a legend mate💯
this was very helpful really
I'm based in the UK, I currently use CD Baby, do you have distributor that you would recommend I use for my future releases. I'm after an ethical one, as I've heard bad things about Distrokid. CD baby still seem pretty solid, but I just wanted to know your thoughts. Thanks for these fantastic videos.
Perfect!
value!
Thanks For this !
Thanks!! We've heard feedback from the indie label world that the release timeline listed below is a good methodology for getting the best out of the Spotify algorithm. From the algorithm perspective, do y'all agree or think there is a better timeline model for releasing singles leading up to a full length album?
- Initial Release: Single 1
- 3 Weeks Later Release: Single 2
- 3 Weeks Later Release: Single 3
- 2 Weeks Later Release: Full Length Album
Because you can submit your song to Spotify for Artists up to 6 weeks early, I would not release so close together. Release one track completely with follow up for one week before submitting another track to Spotify for Artists. How the first track does will determine whether the second track gets put into curated playlists. Just releasing a lot of music itself won't help you get into playlists if your tracks aren't getting enough streams and saves data. A good first release can also help you get clout for press coverage for a second release, which also affects the Spotify algorithm.
If you release like this, and none of your songs get into any algorithmic playlists, what is your plan B for promotion? You don't want to spend all that time and money making the music and blowing your wad in one shot by releasing quickly without giving each track time to build fans and followers. Indie labels have significant advantages because they can get blog coverage more easily and will get their artists included into curated playlists more easily than someone unrepresented and unknown. Each track is an advertising asset. I would release much more slowly and milk each track for all they are worth unless you see a huge response to the first track.
Thank you 🙏🍀
You're welcome!
A big thank you.
Thanks the great info! We are a band called A Boy Named John and our song "Gentlemen" was picked up by Spotify's algorithm for Discover Weekly playlists. The song was released in June of 2016 and was chosen by the algorithm around November of 2016. Since then it has received over 500,000 streams and has been continuously pushed by Spotify to this day.
How often should we release tracks on spotify???
You made a cool video for 2019

Thank you it is very useful information. 😚
Where do I find the link? To get the procedures
What do you do once you get on discover weekly?
8 weeks!! Wow, who'd have thought!!!
Yup, they really are slow burners, but so rewarding once the track is picked up. The trick is not to panic and just stay patient and focus on your next release in the meantime :)
really excellent. thanks
You're welcome 🙏
I have a question. You mentioned it takes about 8 weeks for the algorithm to kick in for things like Discover Weekly. I put out new content all the time and for many years and I've never been on Discover Weekly. So do I need to be pushing a specific song for 8 weeks or are there some artists that Spotify just don't know what do to with?
You have to reach a threshold of streams and engagement in order to trip the Discover Weekly algorithm. If you want a clue on that, start looking at your own Discover Weekly and check each artist. You will find it rare to see less than a 1,000 monthly listeners and less than 10,000 streams per track. That should tell you something. Anecdotal thresholds have been 10k to 20k streams and 3% to 10% listener to save ratio. Other factors like number of followers, number of listener-playlists your track is in, number of external links also are a factor. Just having music in Spotify alone won't trip the algorithm.
Can I ask you , how much I need to listen 1 track for 1 listener and how to get more views!?
How do I get my radio playlist ?
It's good info! I have tried seven ways to Sunday to get on a medium playlist. My production is lacking and has hampered me. On Playlist Push I got on a few small playlists, but most of the playlisters had engineering issues. I can't fix them, can't hear those problems and I'm not always sure I want to make those corrections. When they all have different complaints, it feels like I'm playing whack-a-mole. But I don't even have a mallet because my budget is so cheap. My shoestring budget is more like a dna string. It's so small it makes an insect hair look like a steamliner's mooring rope....
Just keep producing man, you will get an ear for the small problems over time. If you don't want to fix the corrections, you don't have to - just keep them in mind for your next production and eventually you'll iron out your production mistakes.
how do you see your algorythm percentage in Spotify artists??!!! alooo wtf never seen that!! ITS GOLD
Hey pleasant day to lovely content but have been trying to get on the Spotify playlist and to having my fans and followers getting Spotify, but what can I do for it to pick up in there region even here in Jamaica 🇯🇲
Really helpful.
Discover weekly and release radar is showing on my playlists on spotify for artists. Does it mean I am on their algorithm?
I am an Afrobeats Artiste. Which Curator or Playlist will you recommend i submit my song?
my HipHop instrumental "Entropy" by BassEQ is on editorial playlists of Spotify since moths and got already 170k + streams. I ONLY USED MY PHONE TO PRODUCE MUSIC SO FAR. The money I'll use for a producer setup + PC
I will be very glad
every time I find a targeted playlist on Spotify with a submission email they always get back to me asking to pay for a placement :/
glad i didnt pay for this service sounds like a scam on peoples dreams
This is a gem, Thank you Burstimo!
No problem, thanks for watching :)
I play blues and rock music and one of my songs ended up on Beatport Top 100 Breaks Tracks (Auto Generated) What should I do? it's not generating a lot of streams and probably getting skipped.
If I have 3 tracks, should I release one track every week or a month ?
Love your shares. Always great advice....You two are a great duo!!! I have a brand new single coming out tis Friday so this helps significantly. I can send it privately with a press release if you'd like. If not keep sharing great stuff!!!
I am already a subscriber but I had to smash that like button just for the mom and dad with headphones! LMAO!
it’s been nearly a month and i only have 1% of algorithmic streams, was hoping it would pick up a little by now
Good video ☺ 👍 Bro
I appreciate you bro
I been putting my songs on Spotify and im trying to build a fanbase.
