      Normally driving instructors have duplicate controls on their side of the car, but if you're using your own car you won't have those so you have to learn your options: you can grab the steering wheel, pull the parking brake, put car into neutral or park. (Though i believe modern cars won't actually engage park until the car stops moving so that's not helpful, not sure about that). Those techniques are things parent teachers need to learn along with giving clear simple directions

Looked like a lot of hesitation on your part (young drivers can be like that, it's natural). I've always taught my kids that, once they make a decision while driving, stick with it. " the light clearly turned red before he even made it to the MIDDLE of the intersection." The light was still yellow when he entered the intersection which is enough to have the ROW in most US states. The cammer is an idiot for not slowing and stopping for a long yellow and insurance can put a portion of the responsibility on him. But the car turning left was required to yield the ROW.

    23: never start turning and hope cars will slow for you in this instance you don’t have the right of way and you were way to far into the intersection. • @fortunesoulx
      @fortunesoulx Місяць тому +4

      It drives me INSANE seeing people pull into an intersection to wait to take their left turn. Far too often it happens that traffic is heavier than expected and the light turns red while they're there so they have to rush to get out of the way. Idgaf if anyone gets mad, I'm not taking my turn or getting in the intersection until I can definitively see that I can safely clear it. If that means I have to wait for another cycle of the traffic lights, then so be it. I also have zero problems waiting to go when I could have made it. I'd rather say "aw man I couldve gone" than "oh shit I should've waited" and cause an accident.

    People think that being a "good driver" is about who has the right of way or the other person being "at fault" after an accident. They couldn't be more wrong. Being a good driver is ALL about avoiding the collision in the first place. If you gotta slow down to let someone merge who is obviously coming over regardless, or if you gotta eat a little crow and say, "my bad" in order to de-escalate a road-rage incident caused by someone else, THAT is what makes a good driver. A good driver is someone who does what must be done in order to avoid the accident, regardless of any other factors.

      Some of these videos are great for defensive driving training. Pause the video a few seconds before the crash and ask yourself what could be going wrong here? Situational awareness. Do this enough and you start to instinctively drive more defensively, backing off a bit to minimize your exposure. I had a lot of this training decades ago as a job requirement and it's stuck with me. I drive so carefully now that no one can stand to be in the car with me. Some of the aggressive drivers in these videos act as if having the right-of-way will magically protect them; I'm not willing to give bad/distracted drivers that much power over my life.

      @@SVEVelsen Except it was not one mistake, it was multiple crucial mistakes, and the SUV wasn't driving recklessly. Yes, the SUV should've started stopping earlier because the car hesitated, but the student driver hesitated so much that there was no possible way to read what they were about to do, and you can literally see the SUV move over before even entering the intersection to potentially avoid the person stopped in the middle of an intersection in the way of oncoming traffic.Had the student driver just stayed put even after already pulling in front of the SUV, the SUV would've maneuvered around them. You're also overestimating how quickly a car can stop when going moderately high speeds. It would also be extremely dangerous for the SUV to stop dead in its tracks and slam on the brakes at a green light, because traffic behind him would not expect it, and he'd likely be rearended. You can make the argument that the SUV should've known there was nobody behind him but in emergencies your brain fills in the blanks.

    26 it’s amazing the cammer wasn’t involved with the crash, considering how close they drove behind the erratic person

  • @beakt
    @beakt Місяць тому +3

    For #12, at 4:40, the driver that turned left across oncoming traffic will be found 100% at fault, but the cammer was irresponsible too. You shouldn't drive 45 mph through past cars in an adjacent lane that have stopped at the intersection you're approaching. It obviously means something is going on and you should slow down to be able to react. There were cars coming from three directions on that uncontrolled intersection anyway, another reason you shouldn't just blow through it.

      Cammer crossed double yellow into the oncoming traffic's left turn lane. White car was not in a lane at all, driving on the shoulder, so I'd put them more at fault.

      @yellow73914 Місяць тому +4

      @@mandctobin White car very easily could have been in a "right lane must turn right" lane but it's unclear from the video. Cammer definitely tried turning left in a spot where they were not supposed to be turning left so I'm putting them 100% at fault.

    • @mandctobin

    • @dherzog02
      @dherzog02 Місяць тому +3

      @@yellow73914 It is not a right turn lane, it is a shoulder but it was about 100 feet from the intersection. Texas law allows driving on the shoulder for various reasons, I'm not sure if they apply here but I'd be inclined to think this is allowed. The really sad thing is, the cammer passed by another entrance for that parking lot before the clip started.

    #23 When my dad was teaching me to drive, we established certain rules. One of them being when my dad says "STOP", I stopped, no matter what. That way there was no confusion, no "wait, wait wait" none of that. I put a little bit of blame on the father for not conveying the seriousness of the situation in his tone, but most of the blame is on the kid thinking he knows better than his dad. Overconfidence and new drivers are a recipe for disaster.

Then I realized there is only one way these idiots can miss it: THEY DONT LOOK!

    Always love that the people will rear end you, but then backup and proudly announce that there’s no damage.
    But… since bumper shells are designed to pop back out, there’s likely significant damage under the bumper. The egg crating absorbent material is shattered, the ‘1time use’ bumper shocks are spent, but also - give it time, the bumper shells paint that looks fine, develops cracks right where the impact happened.
    I truly miss old cars with their steel bumpers😂.
