I contacted Derek Holt and he recorded a short version of this song on video for my 40th wedding anniversary! My wife was floored. This like many people is our song. Thanks again Derek Holt youre the best!
That is awesome! He is a great man! One of my favorites songs of all time! Too bad the rest of the band hated it and never performed it live. It's all Derek on all of the vocals and studio musicians with his piano.
I was 17 he was 19 and 43 years later, here we are. Reading the comments, isn't it amazing how many of us are still married to the loves of our lives, after all these years! When marriage and love meant something. ❣
Same here. This was the slow dance song at our reception, married the same year it was on the charts. I was 23, she was 21, and 43 amazing years later here we still are.
The bends on the solos alone can cut you, but the strings & harmonies just shred your heart. Being on the verge of 55 now, I can't imagine how much your heart was hurt by the loss. I'm sorry he's gone, but surely he'll never be forgotten... not as long as this song exists

it’s a whole new world since this song was playing… not a better world, just a new one. i miss the way america was then… the nostalgia from this song hits you like a truck…first kisses, love had, love lost, just growing up, and the girl you were crazy in love with, but we’re afraid to talk to her 😂
I’m surprised that no one really talks about this. This is the ONLY video that I’ve ever seen, spot-on vocals to the actual recording of this song. It’s amazing. Either this was the REAL RECORDING of this song.. or they perfected this live recording to match the studio recording. I’m not sure if that’s even possible. As I see it..these are live vocals coming out of their mics here. Amazing.. and Crazy.
I haven't heard this in decades. Forgot how pleasant it is Just a song about love ❤️ Never hear songs anymore that just simply sings about the happiness of being in love ❤️ Maybe we need more of these types of songs again. To find our way back to basic human emotions.
Many of us women were caring and loving toward these situations back in the 1970's. The fond memories of genuine love was a big part of our generation.... This song is a prime example
This was before my time but I absolutely love finding gems like this song! So great ! Had me so emotional out of nowhere! Thinking of my wife and how much she means to me! I must have played this song 5 times having never heard it before! Epic story god I love music!
This song is probably the most beautiful song I have ever heard, and that says a lot because I live for music, and especially incredible songs like this. What a fantastic band they were. Hope they reform.
Had this tune 82 on a Maxell C90 Cassette..... only this one song.... over and over me and my girlfriend listened to this magnificent Love Song. Still gives me goosebumps!
Truly a GREAT tune....by a fantastic bassist. Saw them in 77 Milwaukee. Open for Heart. BUT......I understand this song also caused issues in the band. The band got upset because this song would make him more popular then them....there was jealous factor within the band because of this song. A real shame.
Beautiful song. 70s and early 80s songs were so great, clean cut,and this just tops them all. I was 11 at the time and would hear this ballad on the bus ride home on ckrc.
Yes I was probably about 10 years old when I heard this song I actually tape recorded it off the radio and played it and played it until I learned all the words to it every single word and I always thought and hoped that I would meet a guy for this song the perfect guy and I actually lucked out and did we've been together 37 years and I am now 56 years old so yes this is very much so a classic and a very beautiful song! And yes nobody writes like this anymore! ❤️🥰
Heard a busker covering this at the corner of Broadway and Wall and absently started singing along. Then realized that I’d forgotten how great this song is. Hey busker! Thanks for the reminder! Haha.
This song certainly hits home! And now that I'm older, I have a whole new perspective regarding it! When I was a teenager it was just a song I heard from time to time, now it chokes me up and bring tears to my eyes! Because it's no longer just a song, but a reflection of the best days of my life.
What an awesome song. I used to hear it on the radio all the time but I never really HEARD it til now! How is that possible? It's beautiful but I never saw that in it before
Whomever is still diggin this in 2024, you're still human. Rejoice in knowing that.
Super human😂🎉
Me song like this never get old ❤❤❤
Ain't many humans left, I can tell you that much...

I used to sing this to my first wife, God rest her saintly soul. It's still one of the most magnificent declarations of love in a song ever written!
One of the best love ballads ever! Still sounds great!
I love Pete Haycock's guitar playing. He sounds a bit like George Harrison here.
Oh I agree completely, very much like George,
Definitely can hear that!
Yes I agree, a nice subtle yet very effective approach.
I agree about Harrison. It also sounds, tone and style, like the guitar solos from "City to City" by Gerry Rafferty.
If you're referring to George's guitar solo on Something, yes, definitely this carries its flavor.
Everything about this song is perfect.
LYRICS
When I was younger, man, I hadn't a care
Fooling around, hitting the town, growing my hair
You came along, and stole my heart when you entered my life
Ooh, babe, you got what it takes, so I made you my wife
Since then, I never looked back
It's almost like living a dream
And, ooh, I love you
You came along from far away, and found me here
I was playing around, feeling down, and hitting the beer
You picked me up from off the floor, and gave me a smile
You said, "You're much too young, your life ain't begun, let's walk for a while"
And as my head was spinning around
I gazed into your eyes
And thought, ooh, I want you
Thank you, babe, for being a friend, and shining your light in my life
'Cause, ooh, I need you
As my head was coming round, I gazed into your eyes
And thought, ooh, I want you
Thanks again for being my friend, and straightening out my life
'Cause, ooh, I need you
Since then, I never looked back, it's almost like living a dream
Ooh, I got you
If ever a man had it all, it would have to be me
And, ooh, I love you

Just a song about love ❤️
Never hear songs anymore that just simply sings about the happiness of being in love ❤️
Maybe we need more of these types of songs again.
To find our way back to basic human emotions.
I just asked my girlfriend to marry me.........she said yes......we are both 45.....I'm going to play this song our first dance
Many of us women were caring and loving toward these situations back in the 1970's. The fond memories of genuine love was a big part of our generation.... This song is a prime example
This was our song @ our wedding, 26 years later still have something special still going on...❤️
Great music period..if only new artists could do the same
One of the best love songs ever written!
Ever time I hear this I get goosebumps ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤such an awesome song …. Miss you rob we could of had it all …. 💔💔💔💔🌈
This song was a big hit in the early 80s. The blues melody and the lyrics is perfect. Climax Blues Band music never fade. Cheers.
Authentic, true & pure. A beautiful piece.☘️
This was before my time but I absolutely love finding gems like this song! So great ! Had me so emotional out of nowhere! Thinking of my wife and how much she means to me! I must have played this song 5 times having never heard it before! Epic story god I love music!
My opinion the two best decades of music was the 60's and the 80's. This song is pure magic ❤❤❤❤
I'm so glad I grew in the 60, 70's and 80's simple the best of times!
One of the most honest and romantic songs ever written
One of the best romantic ballads written. Timeless
It's a shame the rest of the band despised this song. Such a great ballad.
You never would have thought this would come from the same band that released the gritty Couldn't get it right just four years earlier.
This song is probably the most beautiful song I have ever heard, and that says a lot because I live for music, and especially incredible songs like this. What a fantastic band they were. Hope they reform.
Brian Anderson I know - that song is also killer! Brummies are musical geniuses! So many brilliant bands from there!
@@nikonikolic1365 Sadly, I think they are all gone now except for Derek Holt (lead singer of this song) and the keyboardist.
The drummer is still going....
ok, let's recap. it is indeed, a most perfect song. period
Every once in a while, a perfect song comes along. This is one of them.
In 1981 i was 15 now im 58 enjoying it everytime
Story of my life. My wife truly changed my life. Every word of this song rings true. I deeply love my wife and best friend.
For every man that has had a good woman... a theme song, you DESERVED us. ❤😊
Play this song for my wife all the time. It almost perfectly describes our meeting and relationship.
Had this tune 82 on a Maxell C90 Cassette..... only this one song.... over and over me and my girlfriend listened to this magnificent Love Song. Still gives me goosebumps!
I love that!
What’s a cassette?
My husband proposed to me with this song over 25 years ago and still going strong ❤
I LOVE this song. I’ve had it on repeat for a while ❤
Truly a GREAT tune....by a fantastic bassist.
Haha.
This song reminds of my current girlfriend help me with so much in my life I’m very grateful for God in her in my life
Amen 🙏🏼❤
This song certainly hits home! And now that I'm older, I have a whole new perspective regarding it! When I was a teenager it was just a song I heard from time to time, now it chokes me up and bring tears to my eyes! Because it's no longer just a song, but a reflection of the best days of my life.
Wow, this IS A BEAUTIFUL SONG
