I contacted Derek Holt and he recorded a short version of this song on video for my 40th wedding anniversary! My wife was floored. This like many people is our song. Thanks again Derek Holt youre the best!
Love your story.
You should share that on UA-cam! I’d watch it. ❤
Cute! Love it! Bless him for doin that. ❤❤
Derek Holt is an awesome and kind gentleman for sure!!! Bless him for doing that for you and your wife ♥
That is awesome! He is a great man! One of my favorites songs of all time! Too bad the rest of the band hated it and never performed it live. It's all Derek on all of the vocals and studio musicians with his piano.
42 years ago when I first heard this I had no idea just how beautiful this song is. No one writes like this anymore...
Absolutely
Im 40 yrs old
But i heard During 90's only Radio Fm
🎉 One of my ALL-time Lifetime Favorite Songs 🎵 🎶
I’m 58, LOVE this song, been on my top 5 songs forever
Very true ! No one writes like this anymore!
Whomever is still diggin this in 2024, you're still human. Rejoice in knowing that.
Super human😂🎉
Me song like this never get old ❤❤❤
Ain't many humans left, I can tell you that much...
✋✋✋
It's gorgeous and still timely.
My husband passed away last august at 55 and was a brilliant musician and he played this often for me.
The bends on the solos alone can cut you, but the strings & harmonies just shred your heart. Being on the verge of 55 now, I can't imagine how much your heart was hurt by the loss. I'm sorry he's gone, but surely he'll never be forgotten... not as long as this song exists
@@kurttimothy139 thank you. That was a beautiful reply.
Such a beautiful song! I lost my wife of 43 years 6 months ago and hearing this again brought me to me knees
sorry to hear that
So sorry to hear of your loss... Hope this song brings you "some" comfort
I'm 62 years old, and these songs touch my soul. It's a beautiful thing when songs from our youth become more than just a song. How they blow the dust off old forgotten memories.
We don't search for old songs, we search for old MEMORIES❤
So true! 😊
So very true I miss being loved 💗
Amen to that
Lovely..
I love U Mars ❤❤😂
nah i search for old songs
I was 17 he was 19 and 43 years later, here we are. Reading the comments, isn't it amazing how many of us are still married to the loves of our lives, after all these years! When marriage and love meant something. ❣
May you live together a long and happy life until the end! This kind of love is rare in these times...
@@GUnit2214 Thank you!
congratulations!!!
Same here. This was the slow dance song at our reception, married the same year it was on the charts. I was 23, she was 21, and 43 amazing years later here we still are.
@@lauramayfield5410 Thank you! 💖
This was our wedding song...still together 25 years!!! ❤
Mine too, but unfortunately ours didn't make it.

There will never be ballads like this ever again, and that's sad. This tears me up every time I hear it. Incredible.

Thank GOD for recordings of these old songs because today’s music is not an option.
No one has ever said anything more true, Ryan.
@Cosmic Apostate And you will be old too one day.
@Cosmic Apostate ...and you´re here ... why ?? Todays music is - I´m sorry - uninspired.
I am glad to be old. To have heard some really 👍 good 🎶 music 🎶
No reason to dog the new music ,I grew up in those times ,we took it all for granted.40 yrs ago, nobody gave two shits about these songs. If the kids dig our sounds now, its all good.
My husband used to play this song for me when we first married ad still plays it for me 36 years later. Such a classic!
Those 70s guys were so Awsome!
Your husband's a keeper. So I guess you did ;O)
I can 💯% understand & know exactly what u mean!! My husband played this always for me. Lost him Jan 2015 after 20yrs married 😢 can never unhear this song 🎼🎶💞

So Sorry for your loss, you were lucky to find that one ! I'm 67 and never have .
Can't help tearing-up nearly every time listening to this lyric:
"If ever a man had it all, it would have to be me". What a feeling that must be.
It truly is!! I'm extremely fortunate to have lived this!
Beautiful song . They don't get any better than this love song.
I SAY IT EVERY DAY
Brings back old memories of a good old girl i missed all those years onto tomorrow's magic yesterday's long gone ...
Oh, it is! 42 years this August! ;)
I didn’t appreciate this in 81, now at 59 years old I do, what a beautiful song and clean voice.
indeed discovering old top 40 classics
This song is beautifully written and composed. So heartfelt, brings such emotion. No music like this exists nowadays, seriously this is just a beautiful song
Today's society is far too gay for a great song like this.
👍♥😰, it's Love & Life...and meaning to Life I say (for no money or possessions or status captions this)
Agreed!
This is a truly beautiful song. We also, I feel, have great musicians and songs current day. No need to be negative about it.
My Soulmate in Heaven Jeffrey played me this song for me over and over for 17 years and had the cassette tape. He would light candles and have a bottle of wine, the way he looked into my eyes will forever stay in my heart until I hold.him again in beautiful Heaven ❤ I love you, I miss you, and I will always remember the true love we shared. One in a million. God I miss you 😢
My soul mate is in heaven too for 5 months now. I hear you sister. I don't have words for how much I miss him
@lesliedixon9225 I'm so sorry for your loss 💔🥺 I never thought the last time we talked would be the last time. I just think he is waiting for me in the next room and one beautiful day I will walk in there and he will be playing this song with his amazing smile saying, it's about time BABY DOLL! 🥰❤️ Sending you a big hug my friend! ❤️
@@suzanneminikus9770 I hope so I hope so
I’m so sorry for your loss 😂😂
I had it on an 8 track tape.
I couldn't remember the name of the song or the band, so it's nothing short of a miracle that I found it 🙂
Let me tell you when I was 11 same thing as you I heard it when I was a boy and when I was a boy whenever I would see a cool student not my student this was the best I would sing at him
Back then did you ever think you would get old?❤❤ best times in your life ❤
No this song keeps me young ❤
This was and is our song. Thirty-eight years and still going strong.
That is awesome
Love is Strong!
42 years and still going strong too. My then boyfriend, now husband, gave this song to me when we were dating and soon to be engaged..Live it still.. we both cry. He’s given me so many love songs over the years❤️❤️❤️
todays music doesn't even come close
Same 38 years here too awesome song ooh the memories
I still love this song 42 years later! Never get tired of it....
I'm right there with you, the best music ever. Nothing can and will ever compare to our 🎶 music.
@@cindyrogers8002 You are so right! We had the best music, 60s-80s, the best of times👍✌️
I’m never getting bored and this song never gets too popular and old
I was born in the 60's great tunes and still listening. Still here July 31 2024
Ever since I first heard this song I became emotional and now it’s 2023 the feeling still the same ❤❤❤
Agreed with this song. Its beautiful.
Amen 🙏❤😊
I’m 61 and this song is making me cry again right now.
👍♥😰, it's Love & Life...and meaning to Life I say (for no money or possessions or status captions this)
I agree, even more so ---since my beautiful wife died unexpectedly 3yrs ago, from I song I knew of in my heart since the late 70s or when it came out.
70s and 80s was by far the best bands and songs we'll ever hear so fortunate to grow up in that time
To todays generation, this is what you call music. Listen closely, no cursing, no threats ,no calling women whores, no auto tune. Talented musicians, period.
Right on
So sad music is over for the new Generation
True
I think I read on here that this song basically destroyed the band, right?
Oh how True this is‼️🤟💯
Just like my wife. We were married 39 years yesterday. This whole song reminds me of her. I remind her of this song ALL the time. Thank the good Lord for putting such an exceptional lady like her in my life ❤️
Does her boyfriend like the song too?
The era where beautiful songs were written...this is one of the golden song.
Can you believe the band hated this song, would support it with a tour. WB loved it as did Derek, basically led to him leaving the band.
I can't get enough of this song. Married in 1978 and still going strong. She has most definitely picked me up off the floor.
One of the most heart wrenching, emotion laden and iconic guitar solo riffs in rock ‘n’ roll history. You can almost feel your heart melt as the guitar riff starts at 1:56 and then 2:54
yup
Love it....Mesmerized
Makes me cry songs like this will never be made again no faith into 2023 music😢
Music has pretty much been “over” since like 2003. It sucks. 😢
Lost my husband of 20 years ago.. 11 months ago. Think he wanted me to hear this song 🎵 tonight.❤️
I was 21 years old and living at the beach in North Carolina and really enjoying life! And at a night club that I went to almost every weekend I can still remember dancing with the tourist women who were coming into this club! And those were some great and memorable times in my life that I will never forget! I love this song! And walking out on the Boardwalk and hearing Nantucket playing at another bar on the boardwalk! Wow those were some of the best times of my life! And now I am almost 65 years old and still remember and cherish those great memories!
One of the most under rated band, a very classic song. Timeless
Absolutely, but they got a whole bunch of air time here in new orleans
@@danonoveh8114 This song was played a lot here in Australia.
@@danonoveh8114 ABSOLUTELY AGREE!!!
I remember it lots as a young boy on radio in duluth mn
Who exactly "under rated" this band ??? Hilarious...
Wow, this IS A BEAUTIFUL SONG
Beautiful song that says what a lot of guys, like me, felt when that right woman entered our lives, at the right time.
This song is very dear to me...
Thanks for sharing
Until a decade passes and nothing you do makes her happy anymore

This song says it all. When I was 23 that's how my life was then I meet her and she changed my life. It would have been our 39th anniversary last month but unfortunately she pasted Dec 14 2017. Miss her so much love you sweetheart.
So sorry for your loss 🌹
So very sorry for your loss and heartbreak 😞😥🌹🌹
I can totally relate lost my husband nine months ago and this was one song he used to sing to me all the time I miss you my sweet Ron always and forever
This is the most beautiful song I've heard in a long time. They don't make music like they use to. God Bless you for making it. 🙏🙏
The Association and Bread music screamed what our hearts yearned for.
I was fortunate enough to reconnect with my first love from the age of 15 after my husband of 25 years passed. This is the first song he played me.
That sustained end. "And, Oooooooooooooooooooh I love you." Cuts to the soul.
I like this song , i loveit
100 percent agreed!
One of the best love songs of all time! ❤😊
The Best Love Song.
*"YES"*

How I still love this song after sooooo many years!! You never hear music like this anymore!!
I only hear music like this, or new Country. Whenever I hear Rap or Hip/Hop I want to ban sound
This is music and tells a story about life and love. You don't see this anymore in music. Thank you to the the most underrated band the Climax Blues band
RIP keyboardist Arthur Wood, vocalist and harmonica player Colin Cooper, and guitarist and vocalist Pete Haycock all 3 taken from us waaay too soon : - (
You tube. Has been a godsend
I grew up in the 70 s and 80s. I feel i was blessed greatly with all the wonderful music. Such good memories!
The greatest love song ever. 30 years ago this was sung at my wedding. It was the first song we heard on our first date and remains our song.
I think I might have to agree with you!
This was our wedding song too - 40 years in July!!
One of the best songs ever...a true masterpiece!
I agree 100%…ever.
Simply:
*"Beautifully EPIC!♡¡"*
Everrŕrrr❤
In 1981 i was 15 now im 58 enjoying it everytime
I only wish I could go back to that time and know then what I know now .
I’m surprised that no one really talks about this. This is the ONLY video that I’ve ever seen, spot-on vocals to the actual recording of this song. It’s amazing. Either this was the REAL RECORDING of this song.. or they perfected this live recording to match the studio recording. I’m not sure if that’s even possible. As I see it..these are live vocals coming out of their mics here. Amazing.. and Crazy.
This is real music.
Classic Forever.
it’s a whole new world since this song was playing… not a better world, just a new one. i miss the way america was then… the nostalgia from this song hits you like a truck…first kisses, love had, love lost, just growing up, and the girl you were crazy in love with, but we’re afraid to talk to her 😂
I'm so glad I grew in the 60, 70's and 80's simple the best of times!
❤❤❤❤ Indeed
This is literally my story. Thank you for the beautiful memories.
My favorite song growing up. I am playing it at my wedding.
Now that's a great power ballad. 💝
I don't even remember hearing that term when this song was popular on the radio, that came along in the mid Eighties when hair metal unfortunately took over the airwaves. If you listen to music from the early eighties to the mid eighties there's a huge difference.
I'm thinking, Dan Fogelburg Phoenix, then Van Halen Hot For Teacher!! Man!! Some Excellent Tunage for each era if you get really into it..Classical, Boogie, Big Band, Blues and Bluegrass Hillbilly Stomp and Seger...Where are all the great NEW Tunz??????? 🤔🎶🎤🎧🎹🎸🕊🤗
Here in Nov 2024… 53 years old. Remember this from when I first heard this at 10 years old. And now saying “I love you” to my amazing man/king 👑❤ and how much this song means to me and us. For me, There is no better era than the 80’s for 🎶
He was blessed.
Many of us women were caring and loving toward these situations back in the 1970's. The fond memories of genuine love was a big part of our generation.... This song is a prime example
I used to sing this to my first wife, God rest her saintly soul. It's still one of the most magnificent declarations of love in a song ever written!
If they took all these great songs away and said I can only listen to todays music…I’d say “Is silence an option?”.
My Carol. We had 10 years under our belt when this came out. God took you in 2002. My Own True Love, I'm still empty. Love Your Johnny ❤❤
This song describes exactly how I felt about my wife. I lost her exactly a year ago, one day before our 28th wedding anniversary. I miss her so much.
Sorry to hear that
I was 26 years old at this time when the sun came out now I’m gonna be 68 and I still love it
Love never dies.Spirit never dies. Our bodies die and return to dust...then our spirits are set free. We are dust in the wind. Our spirits fly like eagles in the wind eternally flying in the universe and in the heavens eternally gracing the other spirits with our love and light. Shine bright like a diamond. Be free with joy, peace, and love .
This era of music was so pure and real. Wish it would come back...
Senior year in high school...what I would give to be there again.
I was awesome music
Story of my life. My wife truly changed my life. Every word of this song rings true. I deeply love my wife and best friend.
One of the best love ballads ever! Still sounds great!
Beautiful ❤
Good Morning! Song like this they help you think of the truth. No body wants to hear the truth those days. They rather hear a lie then try the truth. Marlene Toledo Grayson
When you find a woman that is so special she stands by your side no matter how much you screw up makes the tough decisions while your screwing up and finds a way to help straighten out your life , while somehow strenghtening the relationship, you are a lucky man. I am one of those lucky men. This song is perfect. Happy 44th anniversary my love.......

30 years with the most beautiful woman!! She did this for me and I will always be so humbled and grateful♥️♥️ Miss you baby🥰
That year was my worst & best! I ended a very bad chapter in my life & started a new chapter with my soul mate. That was 43 years ago & we're still going. A true love story never ends! ❤ Thank you to my husband for his determination & his never give up attitude when he wants something. I'm the one that has been Blessed by this amazing man. I love you Sweet Boy!
This should've won SONG OF THE YEAR at the Grammys
It would sure be nice if we could go back to these times 2023
The guitar bends and tone are fantastic..
Great music period..if only new artists could do the same
This song certainly hits home! And now that I'm older, I have a whole new perspective regarding it! When I was a teenager it was just a song I heard from time to time, now it chokes me up and bring tears to my eyes! Because it's no longer just a song, but a reflection of the best days of my life.
That song reminds me of happier times!
This is almost certainly the best love song in rock/pop history.
This song has grown on me over the years. Can make the case it's one of the better Love songs ever - actually thanking someone to come into your life.
I was 16 and My Boyfriend was 18 he would always play this song to me through the years and now here we are 32 years later and we still play this song to each other ❤️💞❤️

What’s a cassette?
What an awesome song. I used to hear it on the radio all the time but I never really HEARD it til now! How is that possible? It's beautiful but I never saw that in it before
"If ever a man had it all, it would have to be me". Greatest line ever!!!!!!!
It makes one recognize what one missed.

Climax Blues Band - I love you 1981 When I was younger man I hadn't a care Foolin' around, hittin' the town, growing my hair You came along and stole my heart when you entered my life Ooh babe you got what it takes so I made you my wife Since then I never looked back It's almost like living a dream And ooh I love you You came along from far away and found me here I was playin' around, feeling down, hittin' the beer You picked me up from off the floor and gave me a smile You said you're much too young, your life ain't begun, let's walk for a while And as my head was spinnin' 'round I gazed into your eyes And thought ooh I want you Thank you babe for being a friend And shinin' your light in my life 'cause ooh I need you (Instrumental) As my head was comin' round I gazed into your eyes And thought ooh I want you Thanks again for being my friend And straightenin' out my life 'cause ooh I need you (Instrumental) Since then I never looked back It's almost like livin' a dream Ooh I got you If ever a man had it all It would have to be me And ooh I love you.
