- new design for quail feeders this time they are PVC pipe.How we mounted the Quail feeder we just made out of PVC. We have just recently started raising quail and it has been very interesting. The kids have learned so much about baby quail and how to build pens for them. We work together as a family. Trying to find a way to save money on Quail Feed. This is definitely going to save us alot of money on quail feed.

I watched few videos of Warker Farm Fam, Keeping it Dutch, Coturnix Corner and hiddeh heights farm and came up with the ideal to make the Quail feeders out of wood because I did not have any PVC pipe. After a couple of trial and error's I came up with this.

You might have block each section off and put a door for each of the bottom 2.
Keeping a chicken from scratchn is like trying to stop a kid from liking ice cream 😆. Concrete or gravel works or having them in for supper.
It's hard to tell by the video but I'm guessing gravity will work against getting feed in 1 and 2 but making the feed tube go across the side of the cage may be closer to the food dropping down.
Yeah I thought about that Ray. I told Stephanie I was just going to experiment for now and then once we get to our new place we are going to spend the money and build the pans rot. I know they will not quit scratching.

Happy Thanksgiving and congratulations on your anniversary. I may see a problem with the setup of your PVC feeder. One you already discovered, the feed doesn’t have a way to flow to the end cap, plus with gravity the feed, once the top is empty will only feed the next level down. I liked your wood feeders, why not put one for the middle section on the other end of the cage, two on one side one on the other. Anyhow, I enjoy watching your channel. Stay safe out there.

I was going to keep the wooden feeders but I cannot put another one on the other end because I got waters. I’ve got a few things I’m going to try this weekend hopefully it will work. Keep the traps going inside but alternate left, right, left. Put a cap on the bottom side and fill from the top. Your current design is good but unless you fill the entire tube it won’t get to each level.

Lay a piece of wire you used on quail hutch down and bury the edges so it stays.

You just need to put an angle to the feeders, tilt the inside end down slightly . Maybe use a brace post underneath the bottom feeder to raise it and support it, I'm afraid the weight of fifty pounds of feed will end the wire. Maybe rock the edges of the sidewalk to keep the chickens out. Maybe lay some chicken wire down along the sides to keep them from scratching the dirt place so decorative rocks along the wire to hold it down. If they can't scratch the dirt they'll move on.

They are scratching for bugs and worms. Believe it or not chickens can actually hear them move under the ground so they will dig to get to them. That's why it's best to keep them out of a garden or flower bed. You may have to get the solar fencing like Dutch has to keep them corralled.
Yeah that’s what someone was telling me I will have to look into getting some of that fencing
Scratch boxes help keep chickens busy enough to keep them from messing up your yard especially if you can get a good start on getting some earth worms to populate inside the boxes In the winter you can buy a few worms to keep them busy plus a little feed will get them started scratching inside the box.

Kevin from Hidden Heights farm had a small lightweight roll up fence to keep his chickens in an enclosed area just out from his chicken pen( you just push the pointed fence posts into the grass) you could contact him they are a very nice family like your own God Bless you all +++

You might have to make a couple of scratch boxes for your chickens to keep the chickens from digging up the yard a few earth worms and some treats in a scratch box sure makes a difference you might research scratch boxes for chickens another UA-cam channel hopefully it'll help you out

The chickens might be using that dirt spot to dust themselves. You might want to get a concrete mixing pan and fill it with dirt and place it by the coop area. . Hopefully, they'll use it instead of your yard.
