  • Hello and welcome to the SPOOLIN UP channel : )
    In this video I upgrade the brakes on the GTI. I did have some issues as some of the parts I bought were not as advertised but I managed to get the correct parts in order to complete the job.
    Click the link below to find the guide that I used to help me.

    Easy Naz!! Been following your channel for time now, I've done all the upgrades you've done so it's been a keen watch for me, I actually chose my in tank pump upgrade from you, but I've done one you haven't done yet and it would be good content for the channel, I put mk1 TT hubs and control arms on, mate, the difference is 10/10.

      Easy mate hope you are well. I'm glad you have been following along man as its always nice to hear. How have you found doing some of the upgrades and what is your favourite? Also how did you get on with the Kemso pump? The tuner was happy with it. I will certainly look into these TT hubs and control arms, when would you say you notice the difference most? Thanks for your message mate.

    Good stuff, nice upgrade! I want to do my brakes soon as well. I'd like to get the calipers sandblasted and powder coated red (and otherwise refresh the piston, rubbers and other hardware). The Leon already comes with 312 standard in the front, so just getting new discs and pads should otherwise do the trick. Too bad about the wrong parts, hope you can pass them on to someone else and at least get a bit of your money back?

      @SPOOLINUP  2 роки тому

      Was it you who was asking me months ago when I was uploading the video? Sorry it took so long if so. Yes man it would be great and a lot faster to sand blast and then get them painted, that sounds good to me. What about the brakes on the rear? Are they 256mm vented too? Hopefully I can see if anyone wants some of the other bits at a cheap price or even give those discs away to someone. Money back wouldn't be a option, it was from someone on Facebook a long time ago. Thanks for watching the video BTW 👍🏽

      @@SPOOLINUP I did ask, though I don't think it was months ago..? few weeks certainly haha. I mostly wanted to see how you would tackle the brakelines and them losing fluid (since I would need to leave the calipers off longer) You didn't end up showing much about that, which is okay, you're not doing the video for me lol. The rear brakes are the same solid 232s, I think the vented ones only come on the AWD cars. Not sure how much of an upgrade it is? (looks better I guess, especially with bigger wheels) I find the car already stops really well, even with the brakes being in the terrible condition there are in now.

    • @SPOOLINUP
      @SPOOLINUP  2 роки тому

      Hahah maybe a few weeks ago then, I lose track of time easily. I would say that if you wanted to keep the calipers off then you can buy multiple brake line clamps and do the front, then the rear. Or buy some brakes, refurb them, put them on all in a day and then you can refurb your old ones and sell them on. Either way its only the front calipers you keep if you do the whole conversion. The rear ones just look better mate yeah that is the best thing, slightly bigger discs and bigger calipers. My handbrake wasn't the best so doing the conversion helped me as now its fine. 232mm solid is fine in my eyes mate the car does stop well regardless. Collect the bits you need slowly and refurb them, then you don't need to keep them off.

    Nice work, you've explained it well!
    I've got some carriers from a TT, 312mm fronts and the 256mm rears. I didn't realise that they need spacers on the rears, where did you get your 6mm spacer kit?

    • @SPOOLINUP
      @SPOOLINUP  2 роки тому +2

      Hey man you only need spacers for the rear calipers if they are off a 4WD car. My rear calipers were off a MK4 R32 so thats why I have 6mm spacers and it would be the same off any 4motion or 4WD VAG. If you have the 256mm rear setup from a FWD like a Skoda Octavia VRS then you don't need the spacers. Basically if you needed spacers you would know about it by now so I wouldn't worry. Thanks for the comment man, hope you are well.
