Fun fact about vag cars. Rear carrier don't need to be removed to replace discs. There's just enough room to get the discs off after removing the pads! 👍🏾
Minor points: 1. Re: lug nuts: I understand the concerns about lugs vibrating loose. However, over tightening the lugs can actually pave the way for that exact thing to happen. If you always torque to spec, it’s less likely you will stretch your lug nuts and run into issues. Just sayin.’ 2. I personally wouldn’t send my worst enemy to ecs to buy parts. Otherwise, this is the best DIY for mk7 brakes on the Internet. Thanks for sharing and keep ‘em coming!
Wheel nuts are more likely to come loose. When your using wheel bolts you should be torqueing to spec, as when you go higher you can cause the bolt to stretch. Also when using the bolts you have more thread contact, so spec torque is far more likely to hold.
@@robdiddly4137 I agree, although many people are making a big deal about the interior some will prob get used to it lol. But many are saying the performance is much better than the mk7.
Brakes are something so many people overlook when upgraded their car. Especially if they don’t track their vehicles. Make sure to bed them properly too.
@@Lowkey_DeAndre look up the specific bed in procedures for your pads. EBC red stuff sometimes take 1500 miles to break in and fully mate the rotor and pad surface
One important step that was not shown on the video is when doing brake pad replacement is to monitor the brake fluid reservoir as you are compressing the caliper piston into the caliper. As the piston is being pressed it will force brake fluid back into the reservoir. If the cap is still on the fluid reservoir the pressure will build and the typical plastic reservoir is not designed for that. I use a new turkey baster and draw out some fluid from the reservoir before I compress the pistons and I always do a complete brake fluid flush when I change the brake pads. Stainless steel brake hoses would have been an easy and affordable brake mod too, especially since you upgraded the rotors and pads. Peace
you can also just crack open the brake bleed and let out a small amount of fluid while compressing the piston, this prevents old fluid from being forced into the ABS system
Worth noting that ECS says this break kit only works on 2015-2017 pre-facelift models. Not sure how accurate it is but that is just what the website says. :)
Also keep in mind the ceramic pads take a lot longer to break in than normal pads. EBC says 1000-1500 miles. Also drive around 15 min in between hard stops
Just and extra tip: if you’re rotors are stuck and are going to smack it, smack from the inside out so you don’t potentially damage the hub bearings. I only say this cause Mercedes have basically the same set up and trust me I have seen a guy ruin 4 wheel hubs, and 2 axles cause he smacked the rotors from the outside. (I worked for Mercedes in the past)
id do all this stuff to my 17 Sport... but i've decided to get the Mark8 when available later this year, so i'm saving all my $$ for that. Love your content , digging this channel. 🤟🏻😎
I installed some EBC Green Stuff pads and some of their slotted rotors for an old 3rd gen 4runner that had terribly warped brakes. After installing them, I about flew out the got dang windshield! I couldn't imagine how much harder they can go on a GTI. Makes me wonder about my mk6..
To explain the "bolt stretching". Its actually because you plastically deform the material. So you permanently deform the material (hence the "plastic" term)
Shouldn’t the rear slots be going the same direction as the front? Looks like they are on backwards. I also have stoptech rotors and EBC red stuff on my car all around
Trying to figure out if I'm going to stick with my Mk7 1.8 Golf or get a GTI... while a stage 1 on the 1.8 gets me to about the same [engine] performance as the GTI, I still feel GTI is the way I want to go... I do like the 1.8, but the huge difference between that and the 2.0...
Does this gti have the electronic parking brake I have an audi a3 and I'm pretty sure I need a scanner or something do decompress the piston in the rear
@@mynameisnotcory I plan on buying one as a winter car this year, as my 350z is terrifying in snow. I just meant like if I lived in Arizona I would preferably drive rwd year round.
Anyone thinking of the 2 piece by ECS I highly don't recommend. I've had their 2 piece rotors on both my b8 Audi S4 and my GTI and they both warped after less than a year. I don't track my car. I don't like anything ESC branded
Can you please buy a mk7 GLi and mod it?? 😩😩😩 literally zero videos on GLi on UA-cam. The only ones out there are so homemade and crappy. I can’t imagine a GLi build step by step like this!!
much easier to do on a lift. i have a hard time getting enough leverage to get 200 n-m torque on the carrier bolts when my car is on jack stands, look how hard he had to put his whole body into it

"If you got a decent size hammer you just whack it" LOL loving Randall on the channel, keep pumping out content Cam! ❤️
Here’s a like for your 100 degrees! Live in the south so i know about humidity. No joke!
The GTI is such a beautiful car and watching these videos has me amped for the day I get mine. Great content as always 👍🏽
If you have the funds I would wait for the mk8. That gen 4 ea888 is going to be fucking insane

SAME I started looking at them right after I founder the channel and now I'm getting one in the next week. So excited!
Idk I love my mk7 and I hear the mk8 feels like a video game instead of an actual driving experience
Wire wheel or brush cleans up the hubs and then put a little anti seize on them. Avoid the lug holes. Keep up the great GTI content!
Back at it again with the gti🤌🏻

What I find Ironic is prior to Carbon Ceramic Brake Discs, The Porsche Race teams would take off the drilled rotors and put on solid discs haha.

Porsche Macan brake caliper upgrade on these cars is a must. Rear OEM is fine, not much to be gained there.
Sounds interesting …..big $$ ??
Are the rotors on fronts putting on backward? I thought they are directional or it doesn’t matter.

Ecs tuning has been on point! Ordered like 500 dollars worth of goodies and they were here in 3 days (which is raaaare for me at least)

You need the golf R head lights and definitely do a eqt turbo I had mine on my gti made 400+ on 93
could've cleaned the calipers before reinstalling
Love the GTI content!!!!
Were the rear caliper bracket bolts the same size as the fronts?
Hey man do you remember what your wheel tire set was in the video? Are those s5 wheels? Size tire? Also how low was your car?
Looking forward to see which turbo you go with for the GTI!

I also thought about that, oh oh 😅
What year is your car? I assume its no longer under Warranty/Maintenance Plan?

what kind of background music do you use? do you have a playlist?

Maybe a bit OCD but do you not think you should have cleaned the calipers before re-assembling?
Can you do a video on updating the infortainment system?
Love this gti stuff
What’s the torque for the rear brake caliper and bracket? They said the fronts but not the rear.
The specialty bolts are triple squares.
So your exhaust in this video was stock catback with aftermarket downpipe?
I always wanted to out those rims in my golf sport wagon. Instead I put the titanium edition 18 spokes from the A4. Still though.
hey, why does the performance pack brake pad have sensor. im not sure if that the one for my gti. i have a 2016 gti autobahn
smoked a Gti on my Foz today, good shit

After this upgrade did you ever experience any warped rotors again?
Cam can we get some GLI jet tags?
What are you done with Subaru now
How much lighter are the aftermarket rotors compared to the stock?

Are these cars AWD?

What happens with the front lip?
With it being us 🇺🇸 spec has it not got an electric parking brake?
I was thinking the same. EU versions you can't just take the rears off like the fronts because of the e- handbrake
MK7 Squad!
Opinions on the new z?
looking so dope!
In hot weather full rotars are more effective longer.
What size wheels are those?
Damn I need a bigger brake kit, that brake boosting and hard braking really not the best on the non PP lol
