    Appreciate the review. Showing the faults, weighting the pros/cons. Opinions and bullet displaying and info. Other videos have target shooting but I guess they are just that much fun to shoot...really no interest in liking a video but this video gets one. Nice and informative! 👍

    After sending my stainless beck to Marlin the second time they gave me a new one. I'll spare you the details. They have been doing a great job these days and are past the Remlin days. They have really started to resolve the issues they were having. Thumbs up to Marlin.

    I’ve just recently heard that Henry or marlin was limited in bullet design... I have had multiple in my family circle you know, and have seen just as many variants even hmr.. seems to me though purpose I have always known to make the sweet little carbine popular is low-slow and flat perfect in the bush, light weight and compact on the rode, has its own ammo mag but most important the Marlin is perfectly balanced on your shoulder and free standing.... I got my ss from a guy who had put a box or two through it and it was as smooth as my uncles Winchester from the fifties... The blued 336 rifle are good guns but isn’t in the same ball park as per quality fit an finish as you have with the 336ss.. In my non-professional, doesn’t even matter opinion that is! Lol take care man and stay safe... thanks for the upload. And subscibed👍🏻

      +pistooli1 I'm very glad to hear to hear the quality is back to where it should be! Considering the 336 design has mostly remained true to the original 1893 with only minor changes, there should be no surprises in the manufacturing process.
      I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine!

      I shot it for the first time yesterday, everything is great apart from the heavy trigger pull, it's much heavier than I am used to......... Do you have any idea where I can get a happy trigger in Canada ?......... ETA I just ordered one from Brownells $100 US Marlin could easily fix the problem, I guess it's all about profit.

      I bought my 336ss Marlin 3 years ago - I was not as lucky as you. It had a warped barrel.Sent it to them two times before they gave me a new one. They are past a lot of the issues of the Remlin days though.

    I own a 336 made in the 80's that I reload for. A work in progress, but I get about 2.0", 3-shot groups at 100 yds off a bench with the factory LeverRevolution ammo. My rifle chrono's it at about 2250 FPS at the muzzle. The FTX bullets and LeverRevolution powder are hard to find here in the states to try to replicate it. I may get less range, but I think my accuracy is better with older bullet designs/weights and older proven powders like 3031 and 4895. My point: newer is not always better. Thanks for your video(s).

    • @ScaredStupid
      @ScaredStupid  9 років тому

      okie5306 Thanks for the comment and the info! I agree that new is not always better. Handloading components here in Canada are difficult to find also: Had the 150 gr or 170 gr Hornady interlock RN bullets been available I wouldn't have bothered with handloading the 160 gr FTX bullets in the first place as I'm more than pleased with the accuracy I get with the traditional RN and FP bullets.
      If I can get some decent velocity out of the FTX bullets while maintaining accuracy I'll try them at longer range and see how they do.

      I bought a SS 336 marlin in 2013 and I really like mine also , very well built (walnut stock) a excellent rifle ,I don't understand why people knock the rifle down and classify it as a cheep Remlin .

  • @TheGorillafoot
    @TheGorillafoot 5 років тому

    Looks like a very versatile rifle. The SS is also a plus. It's worth the extra cost just because of the rust resistance.

    i bought a 336 stainless steel in 30-30 in 2016 and that gun is flawless not a single issue. i used it all deer season and no issues. didnt get a deer but she packed really nice i have a leupold 2x7 33mm scope on it. i wanted a stainless scope but cant get one that is a ncie quality and on the lower side for price. i bought a whole bunch of the vx 1's they had a rebate for 50 bucks back so i bought a bunch of scope for 150 bucks each. in late 2016 i bought a 1894 in 44 mag blued and i got it on clearence at a gun shop and then 10% off so i paid 436 for it,. hell of a deal and the only issue i have had with my marlins is my 1894 has a tiny chip in the stock where it meets the reciever but for what i paid im not mad about it. and it is really small cant even see it unless you really look at it. and my 336 i spilled soda on it and had to take it all apart andi dropped a barrel band screw and stepped on it and the threads got gummed up and marlin sent me a brand new screw for free and i had it in my hand in 3 days. all the marlins ive picked up at the gun stores have been flawless. and with lever guns they need a break in period. about a 100 shots and they smooth right out. i cleaned both of mine right when i got them and went and shot them 100 or so times each and then cleaned them again. if you dont clean them to often when they are new they break in faster because of the dirt and grime smooths it out. i did use meugiurs mag polish to polish my bolt and inside on 336. made a hell of a difference. i will continue to buy marlins without any worry of any issues.

      tank2449 - Great narrative. My only comment is that the size of it with no paragraph breaks is very intimidating to the reader and may result in many readers just not even attempting to read it.
      Perhaps a few 'return' strokes would help make it visually more appealing and get more readership. Cheers!

    Nice review. I have a brand new 336ss and can hit six inch plates at 200 yards all day long. To shoot longer than that I would need a scope on it and I really don’t want to do that. I have a bolt gun for that. Now my brother has a browning lever in 30-06. With a scope that can reach out a long ways. That is another great gun.

    I really enjoyed your review. I wish they made this model in a 350 Legend. Someday. I did go to a dealer and looked it over 6 years ago But after the lever jammed open 3 times I said "no way". Putting my faith in Ruger with Marlin this time.

      Nifty idea. If you do it I want to see a video of the finished product! If I got another 336 at a bargain I`d be Dura coating it some odd color....maybe even OD green. Or you could strip it down and have it sent out to be salt bath nitrided.

      I definitely have options. I paid $400 for the rifle, but I got $350 in ammo and a leather strap and belt ammo case. So pretty much the rifle was free lol. Why not spend a little on it. Most definitely I need the action polished and trigger upgraded at the very least.

  • @bushed2743

    My 336ss in 30-30 also hated the 160 grain ftx hornady leverevolution ammo ... the 3 shot groups @ 100 yds never shrunk under 4". The 336ss shot the 170 grain remington core-lokt ammo very well.
    My 336C in 35 rem however loved the 200 grain leverevolution ftx ammo and was consistently cutting 5 shot key holes at 100 yds with in.
    Go figure.
    My guns are both post 2014 manufacture "rep" stamped remlins.
    Functionality and fit/finish were fine but the stock pistol grip and forearm checkering was 2 dimensional "shadow" checkering with no depth to it like it was stencilled on.

    Remington took a few years to update the marlin production equipment and train personnel. They SHOULD have ceased all production until that happened. Now the quality is back to the JM stamped rifles.

      The eye relief on that scope is quite short and I had it set up for shooting off bags when testing handloads. The rifle is very handy with just the iron sights so I don't like to keep a scope on it unless playing with new loads.

    Van Isle Gunnut - I have a marlin 336Y that I have fiddle with reloading. I have been able to get around 1.2-1.6in groups at 100yd with varget and 130 gr speer FN bullets, factory 170 gr Remington cor-lokt, and even Federal 150gr power shock; but haven't been able to break the 1 moa mark. Do you have any not so obvious tips for 30-30 reloads? particular powders, primers, seating depths? Also does your rifle get finicky with how many bullets you have in the magazine? does that weight mess with your accuracy? does it create different nodes depending on the number of bullets in the tube? do you know of any after market tricks to "accurize" a lever gun similar to bedding the recoil lug on a bolt gun? Sry for so many questions. thanks for posting the video first good in depth 336 accuracy review I have found. Side Note: My gun also despised the factory 160gr leverevolution bullets (like 5in groups at 50yds). I have some flat based 135gr Hornady FTX in the mail to try out soon. Thanks again.

    • @ScaredStupid
      @ScaredStupid  5 років тому

      Hi Jake, thanks for the detailed comment! First of all to put it into perspective I think your 1.2 to 1.6 in groups are exceptional and in my experience show better accuracy than 90% of the firearms owners utilizing a $2000 investment in a modern bolt action rifle and optic. From where I'm sitting, you've already won, however I do understand the desire for getting the absolute best out of a platform that others mistakenly disregard as "mediocre". All can really suggest is if you see the 160 gr Hornady FTX projectiles maybe give them a try and see if you can fine tune your load with either Varget or IMR3031. I'd also be very interested to hear how the 135 gr FTX work out for you as I've never tried anything lighter than 150 gr.....
      One significant thing that might explain the small differences in our groups might be the fact that my shooting for the load workups in the video were done in the winter in Northern Alberta, which mean no wind. Dead still. Exceptionally clear conditions with a tiny bit of ice fog and that's it. No heat mirages whatsoever. Comfort ensured by a 5 lb propane tank and a buddy heater at my feet. Perfect winter shooting conditions.
      I'm sorry, I don't really have any tips on accurizing a lever gun; I have not done anything to my rifle other than refinish the stock and polish the internals for a smoother action. Just as long as the two barrel bands are snug you shouldn't have any significant issues with barrel harmonics, nor have I noticed any kind of variance in accuracy due to magazine tube load. The only degradation in accuracy I've seen was when my ammo was outside long enough at -46 C/-50 F where I suspect it dropped the velocity of my handloads enough to come off the node; no surprise there, extreme cold can do that to even extruded powders.
      Cheers and have a great day!

    • @jakemoore2593
      @jakemoore2593 5 років тому +1

      Van Isle Gunnut thanks! I appreciate the reply. I just got the 135gr ftx bullets in the mail and also bought some cfe223 powder and the leverevolution powder so those will also be tested. May try the 160s in the future but i quite enjoy the lighter recoiling 130gr speers. Also just shot a doe at 125 yards a few days ago with that bullet and it performed very well. Hard quartering to shot and recovered the bullet under the skin on far side ham. Good mushroom and bullet appeared to retain pretty much all its weight.
      All said and done i dont think i will chase my tail forever trying to get it to under an moa consistently just curious if there is a magic trick i didnt know about 😂
      Thanks again!

    @wjsmithiv 7 років тому +1

    Your info is a little dated. Late last year I bought a new 336SS on line from Buds sight unseen. It arrived and there are no flaws in fit and finish whatsoever. It does not have microgrooving but it is incredibly accurate and I have not had any problems with cycling or shooting it. I'm very happy with it. It is marked made in Ilion, NY. If I have one criticism so far it it that the lever had a few sharp edges on it out of the box but I took some emery cloth to them and now it is very nice.

    The 93s and 36s with the square bolts were also much weaker, so it tells you how overbuilt these things are that even those are still functioning.
    Also, Remington has apparently gotten their shi* together now, which is good.

    • @ScaredStupid
      @ScaredStupid  6 років тому

      The 336 is purely a hunting rifle, yes. The original 1893-1936 versions based on the original patents by L.L. Hepburn were originally developed for pursuit of military contracts, as with the original concept lever action, the Volcanic, followed by Henry, Winchester etc.
      To my knowledge while the US military never adopted large scale use of lever action rifles, many countries did. This is why you can find Winchester 1895s chambered in 7.62x54r.

      Chances are the accuracy will be fine.
      The main complaints have been
      1. Misaligned or crooked sights
      2. Metal to wood finish
      3. Rough action
      You may want to function test it to make sure everything works as designed and ensure the screws are tight.

    Lovely rifle and cartridge. I am wondering if 170 gr Hornady Interlok ( wow spell checker lit those words up red) cartridge can be loaded (packed full) with FFF Goex (wow spell checker making big red error there too) or if any pistol grade black powder would be a very good choice for this Rifle and Cartridge combination. I just love the smell of salt peter in the woods. Thinking velocity would be outstanding and pressure very low not to mention FFF is very accurate. Anyone try it? or Any old load data you know of?

      Anthony Strawbridge Yes, I really enjoy the Marlin 30-30. I have no personal experience with black powder loads, but I have likewise heard that the marlin is quite accurate with cast bullets and black powder. I would love to hear from others who might have tried it!
