Before u get rid of the cookie sheets, try painting them and using them to put all ur bathroom items under the sink. U can pull it out like a drawer and if something spills the cookie sheet will contain it.

You can use a glass as a biscuit cutter just butter or spray the inside surface or in a pinch an empty tin food can and just open both ends of the can and use that then throw it out when youre finished 😊

    • @EmmaAppleBerry
      @EmmaAppleBerry Рік тому +1

I agree long serrated knives are great but unless you bake a lot of bread that needs cutting and isnt a tear away type (like rolls) then you can just use a very sharp knife and slowly cut the bread without squishing it. It depends on the type of bread but it works for most bread and i think if you really want to be minimal you make do with lots of things even if they do the job only half as good or take a little longer for example a pizza cutter can replace a lot of knives and is much easier on your wrists and is usually far safer especially if they have a guard for elderly and children etc. And a good pair of kitchen scissors will also replace a lot of knife usage.
It just boils down to whats essential to your lifestyle. And how much efficiency or time youre willing to lose to maintain a strict minimal/make do kitchen inventory.
Personally id never need an apple cutter or avo cutter but if you eat both of those everyday itd be worth it just on time saved.
Onions burn me always and like super red tears for hours stings for a day or more so i try to chop them underwater or at the very least pop them in the fridge for 15mins or more before chopping them as that helps but ive genuinely consider getting one of those sealed onion choppers just so i can chop it and not need to open the container until a day later when all the angry stuff is gone.

Must have item that I use all the time is a can strainer! It's a mini strainer that goes over the tops of cans like canned veggies. You just flip upside down to quickly drain the liquid. It also works great flipped the other way to press and drain liquid from tuna cans :) they're like $2 at Walmart.

Highly recommend the Ikea cheese grater! I hate box graters. They are difficult to hold still while grating. The Ikea cheese grater has a plastic bowl the grater lid sits on and the bowl has a rubber grip on the bottom. So much easier to grate the cheese and the grated cheese fall into a bowl, not everywhere on my counter.

I have had the Cuisinart slow cooker for about 10 yrs and love it. I usually brown my meat before adding the rest of the ingredient and this does it perfectly. I've never used the steam rack cause I just have never needed it. The low, med and hi settings are spot on. I still use it more than the slow cooker function on my multi-cooker because it's slow cook function cooks way too hi. When they first came out Americas Test Kitchen reviewed it and it was their winner so I wanted one but was NOT going to spend the money on it. I had neighbors who gambled a lot and one day she comes to the door and asks me if I needed a slow cooker she got for free at the casino. I about died when I saw what it was. Very happy with it.

My favorite cheese grater is from IKEA!!! You grate the cheese into a bowl so it's not all over your counter or cutting board, and that bowl comes with a lid so you can store your grated cheese in the same container.
They have tiny grater lids for things like parmesan or larger for cheddar and other cheeses like that. I still use those same lids for grating things like garlic, lemon zest, shredded carrots, etc so it's all I have in my kitchen.

This is a great video, and a great reminder to us all that no matter how many times we organize/purge high-traffic areas, it eventually piles up and needs another round of spiffing/purging. Katherine over at Do It On A Dime once said, "If you don't use it every day, it's in your way." SO true!!! Isn't it ironic how we do things to ourselves like store holiday plates in a main cabinet for years until one day it dawns on us that's not highest/best use of the space, lol.

Excellent video Mindy. I can't live without my citrus squeezer. I have !/2 juiced lemon and a tsp grated ginger in warm water every morning. I also have salads daily, dressed with only fresh squeezed lime juice and balsamic glaze.

This was so encouraging!! I’m the same way in that I need to clean cabinets and drawers in small chunks of time to stay productive! I love the the newer crockpots that automatically switch to the warm function when the costume is finished. This is especially helpful when I’m out all day!! Thank you, Mindy, for your down to earth everyday help! I love having your videos on while I’m cooking-and I’ve made many of your recipes and spices!

Dollar Tree has 2 packs of the cutting board mats. They aren't silicone but are great on their own as cutting boards, & I love the fact that they're flexible making the transfer of foods to pots a cinch.

Oh no, that little brush was for your rotary cheese grater 😅 I can't live without my rotary cheese grater, but if you like the box grater I would look for the oxo one that has a removable tray - you can grate with it on the counter or standing up!

The ground meat chopper is one of my favorites! I can't believe I never had one/heard of it before. Mine is by OXO and I would definitely like another. I also invested in an enameled cast iron Dutch oven. No Le Creuset here tho! I can't believe I never had one while raising my family. Game changer.

I got four go-to kitchen tools:
Two Mercer brand knives for whenever I gotta do the chopping or slicing.
And for the cooking and stirring I use a beat up wooden spatula, or a beat up silicone spoonula.
If I do any cooking, I'm probably using at least 2-3 of those. At some point I've even bought some other silicone spatulas to replace the old one, but I ended up still preferring the old one.

Ninja has a slow cooker like the Instant Pot one too. I'm thinking of it because the pot comes out & can also go in the oven which would save me dishes for things like ribs that slow cook then go under the broiler.
