Thanks Ray for the review. Nice little chrono. Really like that its portable and very easy to use. What I like most of it is that it’s fits my budget. Have a good week sir and thanks for all the work and time you put into making the videos.
Simple, compact, high quality. This is an excellent product! Really going to consider this as I’ve just gotten into long range shooting and reloading, seems like the perfect product for me. Excellent review by the way!
Amazing review. I agree with you. Many people say something is a game changer. This is tech moving in the right direction for sure. Subscribed to your channel finally after watching many of your reviews!
Looks like Garmin is killing it! I was looking for a new smart watch and didn't want ANOTHER thing to charge all the time...decided on a Garmin Instinct 2 Tactical Solar (I think it is...) and I love it!! I only have to charge it once every almost THREE •WEEKS•!! Definitely going to pick one of these up, too!!
Thank you for the review. I want one. I don’t know any other way to say it. It seems to be an absolutely awesome device and huge game changer in the world of chronographs. Just to let you know. Because of your reviews I have been an Area 419 fanboy for a while and this just adds more reason for me to continued to be an Area419 fanboy. Again, thank you for the review.
I had no idea this was dropping. Super impressed by the size. Hopefully get them below the msrp but still not having to lug around all those other big chronos around would be a blessing
Thank you for making this video. I normally borrow my friends Labradar. It is definitely not user-friendly. Whenever I get stuck, I have to pull up your old video to help me. I told my friend earlier in the day he could borrow my Garmin when it comes in.
Thanks so much for your thorough review. I was really hoping the app would have a real time graphing option like the FX. I have found that graph to be super handy in finding and removing errant shots from your data or watching how a barrel speeds up with fouling etc.
My magnetospeed v3 going for sale 😂😂. Placed order for Garmin after watching your video. Area 419 out of stock on the clamp. Will wait. Thanks for the great work.
Garmin seems to be really getting into the hunting space. They released those rangefinding scopes/sights a couple years ago and also their satellite messengers are very popular with the hunting crowd. I am glad to see that they are broadening their market place because I can't imagine the stand alone GPS business is booming anymore, now that everyone carries around a combo GPS unit in their pocket full time (AKA Smartphone). These Doppler style chronographs are probably the future of Chronos. They just have so much more upside than the other types on the market. The traditional style chronos have too many draw backs to list, the bayonet (magnetospeed) style have less draw backs but the fact that they change the resonance of your rifle barrel really makes them problematic to use while sighting in or shooting for groups or accuracy. I hope a few more manufacturers come out with them, that will really drive up the product quality and drive down price. I wouldn't be surprised if Vortex, Bushnell, Leupold etc come up with their own similar products
Darn your hide Ray.....! Here I was just about to head out the door on my 5am run and this came up. I just heard of this from one of the guys at the range. After my magneto went south and just almost purchasing another. I'm on board for this.
Nice video for sure. Hopefully these will be for sale soon. Sadly I just got the new FX chronograph. Nice to see the air rifle option as thats the only thing Im interested in. I've always enjoyed gamin products back when they released their gps units. It will be interesting to see how accurate it is in the 700-1000 fps range that most pcp air rifles operate in. Especially in the smaller calibers like 177. I shoot field target in the states so having accuracy is important since we stay below 20FPE for hunter division.
Thanks for the review. Just bought one. I've been using Labradar for the last 7-8 years now and the lack of any updates or innovation has been a let down. Unit works fine and I've not had any issues, but it's huge and a pain to take everywhere. Can I ask what your jacket is and where to get it? Is it a Viktos? Thanks!
Morning Ray, wow, this Garmin looks like the cat’s meow. Thank you for mentioning the discount code and information regarding area 419. I have 2 questions off topic. 1: do you teach classes on the subject of precision shooting? 2: what brand of camo jacket are you wearing in the video? Ray, thanks for excellent content. You have a calm and professional delivery. Much appreciated. Be well.
Thanks for a very informative review! That is amazing for that small of a package!!! If I didn't have my LabRadar I would definitely pick this up! I may pick this up sometime in the future. Is there a Range Distance limit for the doppler pick up??
I’m blown away. Compared to the older chronographs that I’m used to, this thing is like black magic. Seriously, all I have to do is just set it next to the rifle/pistol, push a few buttons then let em rip?! I’m so used to fighting with my chrono that this seems like snake oil. Take my money, I’m buying one.
I now know what I want for Christmas! Magneto speed is great but as you said, it's a pain in the butt worth multiple firearms. Actually, the mag speed for multiples is more of a pain than my old pro chrono digital...
What's the detection range of the Garmin? Does it read and track the round out to 50 or 100 yards? For the MS all they gotta do is make a wireless Magnetospeed. They do that, and I'm showing up again for Magnetospeed. The Magnetospeed is more accurate because it's reading a raw velocity at the muzzle, the radar units are reading at some distance away and then using an algorithm to "calculate" the MV.
Game changer for load development. You're already effing around with physical custom load management, dope book, magnetospeed cables, on and on (no offense to magneto speed) This thing looks like no muss, no fuss, quick and simple. Yea!
Tell Garmin you sold one to me. I ordered it off their website and I haven't received a shipping confirmation but they did bill my CC. Hopefully it comes soon, I'm still using caldwell shoot over style chrono and it works but can be a pain to set up at my local range because I have to wait for line breaks to adjust it or move It, etc... thanks for this one. Been waiting for a small, affordable radar style chronograph
I would also love to see the clamp have the capability to fold so the Xero isn't sticking out in case I wanted to put it against the rifle when it's not currently being used, but able to quickly flip it back out. I know it's a minor issue, but I'm going to wait for v2 on both of these before purchasing :)
I noticed Area419's arm may not meet Garmin's 5" minimum requirement when mounting on the side (5-15"). It is clearly working for you. Have you tried running 2 Xero's (1 on arm clamp and 1 on the Garmin supplied tripod) for MV comparison?
That's because the Magnetospeed reads the velocity right at the muzzle while the Garmin reads the bullets a a few feet down. Hence the difference in speed readings with those two chronograph.
Greetings from Central NC! Thanks for this comprehensive review. Do you know if this chronograph would work with black powder muzzle loaders? Someone has the 'big orange box' meter, and it fails frequently, likely due to billowing black powder smoke after each shot. Thanks!
$600 isn't a bad price but it's not cheap either. So I don't think Garmin is crazy here but you can by a GPS for $90 bucks and start using it to navigate around the globe.(really) So I hope they will drop after they get popular like others have (their GPS is $90 bucks), but won't hold my breath just yet, even though Garmin has been a great company and really good to us. Often we forget that new tech mean new production lines and a lot of education for many employees, so if any company can do it Garmin will. They have so many great products that if I had a need for this I would purchase one myself the size and portability is just what you'd expect from a World Class company. Great video Ray hope you're doing well! Nice job Garmin.
The only comparable products are $625, $999, and $1450. I think they did good since they have a better screen, app, and size than their competitors at a lower MSRP.
@@leftyeh6495 I won't spend that much on one because I don't need one but if you read the comment you'd see I gave Garmin as a company a solid pat on the back. I think they're pretty great and have high expectations of them because they deliver so often exactly what you're looking for a reasonable and usually the most affordable price. No doubt that they are building it for a fair price. I said that for only $90 US you can get a GPS for your car that'll take you wherever you need to go in the world. Plus I said Good Job Garmin.
Without doubt the best intro to your videos so far. Your doing an awesome job Ray, may God keep you and continue to bless to you brother.
Been using the ProChrono for years and this is what I’ve been waiting for.
Thanks Ray for the review. Nice little chrono. Really like that its portable and very easy to use. What I like most of it is that it’s fits my budget. Have a good week sir and thanks for all the work and time you put into making the videos.
Picking mine up in about an hour. Can't wait! Should have a video up by Saturday. Thanks Ray.
The portability and ease of use are going to be a huge upgrade from other units! Great video!

Great content and terrific review.

Awesome Review Brother, I appreciate you doing it. Looks like a fantastic little unit.
Outstanding review, and I'll add this to my kit. Thank you!
Thanks for the information about the Garmin and the area 419 mount.

Thanks for the video you just made up my mind on which chrono to buy.

I will be ordering one directly from Garmin veterans discount if Garmin offers a discount for veterans.

Great review. I'm ordering one with the Arca Swiss Area419 mount and a pic adapter because not all my rifles have Arca Swiss rails.
I hope they can add in environmentals to the sessions for the app so we can look back for all data needed for a ballistic chart
Thanks X Ring for the review, who knows when it will appear in the UK?

Great review. So simple compared to the rest. I need to wait for a price drop to about $400 for my needs.
Looks like a good unit. Too bad it's so expensive. $600 is the new $300.
It's expensive. But for what it does, it's comparable in price to most "high end" chronos (including the higher end magneto chrono)
When inflation is the new coin clipping that shit happens.
Thanks Joe Biden
It retails for $ 1099 in Australia. Wish it was $600 down here.
These units have come along way. This might be the one that forces an upgrade for after a few decades 😉😉
Thank You Sir! They just made it so simple! 👍🇺🇲

Man, I was hoping for bc. Doesn’t seem like a ton of reason to upgrade if the Magnetospeed or the labradar are working for you?
Dang it Ray! I just got a lab radar!
Must you keep the unit parallel to the muzzle like the LabRadar or must it just need to be within 5-15" of the rifle?
Garmin doing it again 😂. It’s like with that bow sight years ago.🎉
I just put mine on order at Bass Pro Shops with 10% off. It sure will be a lot more convenient then using the Beta Master Chrony I currently use.
How does it handle large calibers (.338 L. and 375 CT)with muzzle breaks?
