25:48 My mother started to come more often over to my apartment in the afternoon, when she actually started observing what I was doing while playing RDR2. She started to like the game, because it reminds her of when she was a child and watched western movies with her grandfather. My mother comes over every other day, just to watch me play RDR2 for a few hours, even though it's sometimes just riding around or shooting. So there's one more deep conection R* did here. Thank you very much R*!
Omg my mom and I used to watch Netflix shows together at the start of the pandemic and she watched me play rdr2. We stopped watching Netflix and she would just watch me play the game. She almost cried at the end
Arthur warmed my heart and as a guy I'm okay with saying I cried when arthur passed away. Literally lost a brother that night I finished that chapter. I mourned his loss days after and can't listen to the score without getting a lump in my throat
This game is a masterpiece of storytelling in gaming, hell in any medium - and it's one of the few where I still think about its story and themes to this day 2 and half years after its release.
FYI, Arthur does say the word "tuberculosis" in the game. When he goes into the building in Van Horn to save Abigail and Sadie and he's cutting the ropes tying down Abigail, Agent Milton comes up from behind him and says, "That's quite a cough" and Arthur responds, "Tuberculosis. I'll be dead soon and you with me Mr. Milton".
Dan Allen is a fantastic interviewer, honestly one of the best around: the way he just listens and absorbs what the guest has to say is absolutely admirable, cool and really professional. It not only makes the interview interesting, but it also shows how engaged the interviewer is and really enhances both the fascination and interest of the discussion. It shows how interested and likeable Dan is, so I therefore have lot of respect for him! Props to you man, and keep up the great work; I honesty see you as the Joe Rogan of gaming now. You're going to go really far, truly :)
I don't like critiquing interviews because they're kind of up to personal taste and style that aren't ever really *wrong* per se, but I feel like this came off more like an interrogation; for lack of a kinder term. First I wanna thank Dan for even putting this together and putting in the time overall. My issue is Dan never really pushes or feeds off Roger's answers to keep the conversation flowing. It's so much easier for an interviewee to have a back-and-forth continually so they can pull out information that might not be on the tip of their brain in that moment through suggestion and further questioning by the interviewer. I know it's not easy to pick out questions and keep a conversation going, I really do understand that. The way it comes off here is: Dan asks a question, Roger answers, Dan nods and moves on with another question. Just as an example of how it can be improved, when Roger is talking about how he tried looking for footage of people with advanced TB for vocal mimicry, Dan could have asked if that was a choice Roger decided to make or if Rockstar suggested he do so. This is also how interesting stories can come out of interviewees. I can forgive Dan not having fresh knowledge of the game since it's so huge, and I can't say Dan didn't prepare for the interview by refreshing his knowledge on the game. It kind of felt like he didn't know what Roger was referring to for a lot of the scenes and even locations; but again, that's alright.
Never knew he was Irish, but now I definately hear it in his normal speech now for sure. Fantastic actor. Red dead 2 sets the bar very high. Nothing will top it anytime soon.
Met Roger Clark and Rob Wiethoff in 2019 in Kuwait. The nicest, most down to earth guys I’ve ever met at a con. I love how passionate they are about the game and gaming as a whole.
amazing Interview. Thank you so so much! RDR2 is my favorite game now. What an amazing performance and I love all the acting and detail. I cried a couple of times. So many beautiful moments we share with Arthur. Thanks so so much!
Great interview. Roger seems like a genuine and kind human being. One of the best preformances in not only gaming but in cinematic history in my opinion.
First time in 41 years I felt remorse and loss from a fictional character. Everyone who worked on it deserves their credit and especially Roger for breathing life into Arthur. Even years later it’s still my favorite game. Cheers cowpokes.

I'm a huge fan of Red Dead Redemption, played the first one on PS3 and I loved it. And I was so excited to get my hands on a copy of Red Dead Redemption 2. RDR2 is absolutely beautiful and full of life. I spent more time exploring the map than actually doing the story missions but when I got around to it, they were so much fun to play through. The ending hit really hard, regardless of the ending you received was good or bad it still hits hard. Roger did an amazing job as Arthur, so did the other actors who put so much time in their characters

There was a few times Roger brought up some simple references to some of the situations in the game where Dan seems like he had no idea what he was talking about, which in turn made the reference fall flat.

He really embodied the character, and took it to a whole other level. Red Dead Redemption II, is my all time favorite video game ever. I probably return to Rdr2 every year since its release. Every time I'm amazed because I discover new places, different dialogue, and just have surprising npc interactions that are incredibly dynamic. The Ai system for the npCs is done so well, the way your greeting or antagonism can be strung together in different combinations that play off the previous lines is incredible and how everything is just so perfectly context sensitive. The world feels more alive and dynamic than any other game on the market. Rockstar truly paid a ridiculous amount of attention to detail.
The only Video game to make me cry , the performance saying thank you to the horse still makes me tear up after so many times playing Rdr2 awesome actor 👍
Roger isn't good at hiding things haha. When you said "You need to be a main character in GTA6" He gave you the answer, he's in it. RDR2 is the greatest game they ever made and this coming from an over 40 man. I've seen them ALL, literally. Roger did an amazing job with Arthur and so did so did rest of the cast. I thought the actor for Micah Bell might have been one of the most memorable because of his voice. All of the actors/actresses were just astounding.
RDR2 is my favourite game of all time and Arthur Morgan is my favourite character of all time. The music, the acting, the detail, no game can ever compare.
I can honestly say Ive cried because of Arthur's story and it still saddens me the way he left us. RDR2 is still the best game in my opinion graphics wise and story wise.
Prequel to RDR2 .. leading up to it!... I want to play as Arthur again!. Rdr2 is really something special...I just felt so connected to Arthur..more than any other Character..its crazy how he was always on my mind while I play rdr2....I just finished it for the 3rd time last week... and it still amazes me!... its really next level!
I can’t praise enough the incredible work Roger Clark did with Arthur Morgan as a believable and truthful character and how his acting was able to touch people’s hearts in the incredible story displayed in the game, and I must say that this goes for the rest f the cast as well... even Micah which we couldn’t stand during the campaign as this proves the incredible acting that was done in the rest of the characters as well. I’ve seen hundreds (men and women) of you tubers and streamers cry and be heartbroken in all the key events that happen to Arthur as one of the most loved characters in a video game ever. I said this once and I’ll say it again, what Roger Clark’s stunning performance achieved in this game as Arthur Morgan is how we played and witnessed the life of a criminal who was meant to be doomed since the beginning of the game, but at different moments of his journey, we experienced how Arthur started to discover.guilt and compassion for the people he harmed as he found his meaning in life at the end of it after being diagnosed with TB. The lines that really got to me from Arthur are countless but the ones I remember the most are the following: “Our time has pretty much passed”, “John made it... the rest of us?... No... in the end I tried... I did”. And those quotes are own by Roger alone caused without him, they would’ve not meant the same. RDR2 will be remember as one of the best games in history for everything it is and how it was able to touch people’s hearts.
The fishing scene was soo special! Easily my favourite one. To hear the background behind it now from Roger gives it much more significance and I really think one can feel their bond in this scene. Amazing!! Thank you for the great work!
He looks so different without a beard. And how he done nearly all the animation as Arthur is quality. RDR2 is my favourite game of all time. Such amazing content and a top class open world. Can’t get enough of it. Rockstar smashed it with this game and the effort that went into the finish product is pure brilliance
Just started to watch.....man, the edit of all those cut scenes was truly amazing....brought back a lot of memories when I first played....thank you 😢👍
I wish the actors for Sadie and Charles were as involved as Roger. Their roles were pretty important and getting to see them being passionate about the project would have been really fulfilling for us. But yeah, Roger, Rob and Ben have done a lot of appearences sharing their experience.
51:37 there’s another clever reference to the whole “American mispronunciation” trope in the fishing quest with Javier at Clemens Point. Javier talks about the Lannahechee River and Arthur corrects him to “Lannahassee”. Javier even says something like “Why do Americans always pronounce everything different from how it’s written?” Love it haha. Great interview! Been loving all of these
Found Dan Allen Gaming through the BG3 interviews, decided to replay RDR2, it’s amazing see these actors and their passions and then connect that to quality of game that we are given. Love that the RDR2 actors and the BG3 actors are still trying to get the word out about the difference Voice acting and performance acting.
omg he finally took a trip to the shaving barrel. That level 4 goatee was pretty sick though. That guy nailed Arthur though. Took me from being so completely critical from the first trailers thinking this arthur guy was going to be a huge douche i would hate playing coming from John but man was I wrong.
I’ve played video games since the early 80s from the Atari up to XBOX ONE and PS4 (so far cause I’m planning to get both next gen consoles as well) and in all these years I had never played such game as RDR2. The acting and many scenes blew my mind from the most amazing reasons (like the action ones and the drama ones) as well as the simpliest ones like the photography and cinematography displayed in so many scenes. I was used to see that just in movies, but never in a video game. Probably the only games that have reached a level of quality like the one in RDR2 are The last of us 1 and 2, but still RDR2 belongs to a different conversation🙏
1:01:59 Having Arthur get taken by the siblings, and NOT getting his stuff back, is the best way to transfer everything to John, because John can go back and retrieve it from the stash.
I cried when my (Arthur's) horse died. When Atrthur died I was full of rage. Never had so many emotions from a game. Roger, Peter, Benjamin, Rob & Alex really did an outstanding job in their portrayals of their characters. I really wanted Arthur to succeed & breakaway with John, Sadie, Abigail & Charles. Although I had respect for Dutch, I knew in my heart he was wrong & needed to be ditched. I despised everything about Micah & tried to kill him multiple times. Their acting was impeccable. P.S. I wanted Arthur to hook up with Sadie
I just got a whole new appreciation for Roger Clark hearing his real voice... I never listened close enough but his voice with his natural accent sounds the same as my grandfather's... It gave me a feeling I can't describe🥲
Omg I am crying that I missed this! That is my all time fave game, I play it over anything else for hours at a time! I am 30 and a single mom, I should not be as obsessed as I still am after years with this game! And Arthur is my absolute dearest protagonist! I cry every time I play through it and come to him dying 😭 dang thing to miss THIS!!!! 😢
@@joeperry3191 greatest game of all time! Can't wait for another game in the series. Kind of hope we can go back further and get Arthur back, don't think so though. But it would be so cool to see where John and Arthur started out. And thanks, people judge gamer moms more than they think it is ok.
I choked up at four points in the game: 'I'm afraid' When Tilly says 'I'll miss-' and Arthur replies with 'me too, sweetheart', knowing this was goodbye for the last time The 'That's the Way It Is' ride brought me a couple of tears And Arthur's death brought a few more. This game isn't just in my top 5, it's number 1 (and it's a mile ahead of number 2)
He died that way because he did bad things which he had to pay for but he got a chance for redemption. His 'luck' was that he was able to acknowledge his wrong ways and tried to change in to a better man. How many people die without realizing that being a good person is the only thing that matters in life? Only when man faces the end he realizes what's important in this life. And it's not the material stuff but the peace, the laughter, and the memories, we create along the way.
I'm just glad he died at peace, knowing he got John out, and he died in the exact way he wanted (and deserved) to. Kind of makes me wish that RDR1 wasn't canon so that Arthur's sacrifice wasn't in vain.
there's also another easter egg with the chelonians, when Mary's brother flee if you shoot one of the chelonians before starting to run behind Mary's brother you'll trigger a cutscene where they say something of the like of he died so we could ascend and proceed to jump the cliff as well lmao, there's so much layers with those guys. Oh and I can confirm the easter egg Roger talked about his real as well
Arther Morgan is up there with solid snake. I just finished this game and it was amazing. I was broken there was a incredible contrast to logan. Probably just me lol

I'm on my second playthrough too and I'm now given the Downes mission. I'm so traumatized that I refuse to go anywhere near it.
His voice is goddamn gold man holy shit.
Arthur's voice is pure ASMR, and IMO it gets better when he gets sick 😅
Just started to watch.....man, the edit of all those cut scenes was truly amazing....brought back a lot of memories when I first played....thank you 😢👍
I wish the actors for Sadie and Charles were as involved as Roger. Their roles were pretty important and getting to see them being passionate about the project would have been really fulfilling for us. But yeah, Roger, Rob and Ben have done a lot of appearences sharing their experience.
after watching this, i might start my 3rd playthrough of read dead 2
I cry to this same tribute they played in the beginning every time
The interviewer needs to listen more and stop interrupting Roger.
I cried 😢 when Arthur gave his hat to John I knew the end was near.
i feel so bad that he has to keep saying it’s not all voice acting it’s been years and people still don’t know the difference
omg he finally took a trip to the shaving barrel.
Why didn't I think of that
We love you, Arthur! Let's bring back Arthur in RDR3, guys!
YES! we need Roger Clark playing is own game 😁
Arthur said "Tuburculosis to Agent Milton when rescuing Abigail with Sadie in Van Horn
Fucking love Roger’s voice.......damn
If this game was a hollywood movie it would be Godfather like level👌👌👌
Play through would be amazing with commentary and behind the scenes. Omg one can dream!
31:50 I beat the game once, and that was the path I picked, High Honor+Go Back. Going back made it safe for John to make his escape.
Damn this game is epic, doing the third play through right now.
My dream would be to one day do a livestream with Roger Clark playing RDR2. Like this dude over here. Let's hope, one day.
I just got a whole new appreciation for Roger Clark hearing his real voice... I never listened close enough but his voice with his natural accent sounds the same as my grandfather's... It gave me a feeling I can't describe🥲
It’s crazy how much love I have for Arthur Morgan makes me love roger Clark Himself
This man is a legend
Appreciate you adding chapters. ♥
Big up to you finding time to play a gane like this as a single mum! Keep enjoying every moment, no matter how many times you play it over!
@THISIS THEGIRL ok. Not really the point.
@@joeperry3191 greatest game of all time! Can't wait for another game in the series. Kind of hope we can go back further and get Arthur back, don't think so though. But it would be so cool to see where John and Arthur started out. And thanks, people judge gamer moms more than they think it is ok.
So glad i found this video. Subbed. Cant wait to see more. New fan from New Zealand
Much love! Looking forward to going back to NZ!
I choked up at four points in the game:
'I'm afraid'
When Tilly says 'I'll miss-' and Arthur replies with 'me too, sweetheart', knowing this was goodbye for the last time
The 'That's the Way It Is' ride brought me a couple of tears
And Arthur's death brought a few more.
This game isn't just in my top 5, it's number 1 (and it's a mile ahead of number 2)
Wow, that intro really choked me up. 😥
I hate how arthur died, he was just trying to be the good person, and dutch followed the wrong person
It was realistic
there's also another easter egg with the chelonians, when Mary's brother flee if you shoot one of the chelonians before starting to run behind Mary's brother you'll trigger a cutscene where they say something of the like of he died so we could ascend and proceed to jump the cliff as well lmao, there's so much layers with those guys. Oh and I can confirm the easter egg Roger talked about his real as well
Oh man I’d like to see any of the cast stream this game. That stuff is always interesting just for the stories of how scenes were done lol
Spoilers*
I cried when we had to put down our horse near the end of Arthur's mission ):
Bruh I cried when Micah put down Arthur
XD he was a good boy
It'll be cool to see what roger looks like when he gets old cause it'll be like seeing arthur if he never got THE TB
Arther Morgan is up there with solid snake. I just finished this game and it was amazing. I was broken there was a incredible contrast to logan. Probably just me lol
Best opening to a interview ever
