“Contains Language & attitudes of the time that may offend”
Eddie Flanagan was born in Liverpool in 1936 as Stanley Rowlands. He was a hugely popular comedian whose trademark was his very slow delivery, with a lot of the laughter coming from the crowd during his pauses when he would just smile at the audience who would be anticipating what he was going to say next.
Eddie started in the working men’s clubs in Liverpool before getting his T.V. break on 'The Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club'. This was set in a fictional working men’s club in the North of England and was hosted by comedian Colin Crompton as the club’s Chairman.
Eddie was one of many Merseyside comedians who went on to gain a place on Granada TV's 'The Comedians', a show which ran throughout most of the 1970's. Like Tommy Cooper, Eddie was one of those people who didn’t even need to speak to make you laugh. He could just stand there on stage looking gormless and the audience would be falling about with laughter. Then when he did open his mouth it would take forever for him to tell the joke but his delivery style still had you laughing.
With his slow delivery he would wind the audience up until, with them in fits of laughter, he would deliver the punch line.
Unfortunately, Eddie never really gained any serious recognition outside of Liverpool where he was regarded as a true 'King of Comedy'.
Ricky Tomlinson said of Eddie: “A person I admired was the late Eddie Flanagan. He could take 15 minutes to tell one joke, but you wouldn’t be able to stop laughing for that 15 minutes.”
Les Dennis also has said “I feel sad that some brilliant comics have been forgotten. 'Google' Eddie Flanagan and you’ll see what I mean.” ( If you do you'll enjoy the experience ).
Eddie passed away in 2002 at the age of 66.

Pure genius. Delivery that can’t be taught. God bless you Eddie ( Stan)!
Eddie Flanagan was THE BEST. I listened to him again last night (New Year's Eve) and was crying laughing. I have watched all 0f his videos time and time again for years. I just wish there had been more
Why wasnt this man a major star ?
The funniest by far
I was lucky enough to have seen Eddie several times in the late 60s, early 70s....a top class comic, no profanities, just excellent working class humour!
One of the Guvnors of Comedy Eddie Was, Right up there!
He had Great delivery 👍
@@RobCharles YES! Took years and years of learning his craft!
@@stormytempest6521 King Of Comedy it has been suggested. I have just added some info via a website about Eddie in the description part of the video. Thank you for commenting
The wife heart attack gag creases me up every time. If ur of a certain generation from Liverpool u worked with fellers like this fucking hilarious
This guy is hilarious. Wish I'd known about him when I was younger.
I love them all but Eddie has something about him different, my fave without a doubt
The Scouser wanting to be a cook is brilliant 🤣
I'm a bed ridden person and these comics make my days a lot better. That's why I'd like to buy them. Sysan
Great Upload , Wonderful humour .
He was fun to hangout with at Hare "N" Hounds Pub. He took my friend and I to Granada Studios in Manchester, Fall 1984, to do the show "The Comedians." Fantastic time!!!! Miss him.....
R.I.P.....
Eddie was absolutely wonderful, real comedian.
One of the best👍
Wonderful stuff. The timing in the Uncle Charlie gag is just impeccable.

Funny guy
Very funny 👏👏👏👏
Brill......
I used to watch this when I was a kid 👍
Hopefully, bought back some memories?
Comedy certainly was different back then. The age of ‘light entertainment’ as it was called. It certainly was.
Does any one know where i could buy a dvd of Eddy Flanagan and charlie williams. Happy days love all off the so much. Please can some one tell me. Uk
Those long drawn out pauses were an art form that is definitely lost today - Tommy Cooper is the only other person I can think of who could do that….
Building up the tension & wait. A Masterclass.
👍👍
You know we used to love to tune into The Comedians. Clean, honest jokes, jokes now out of date, sadly.
Too many doo gooders today its jokes and funny
Was he and the late , great Jim Bowen related ..har ..har ?
The egg joke was stolen from Bernard Manning.
Well at least he’s laughing 🙄
Wow! Extremely unfunny
WOW!!! Julian, Maybe not to your liking. COMEDY Is Subjective! maybe look the word up to see the meaning.
Don't find him even slightly funny
Hi Darin, this is clearly NOT your type of Comedy so please leave this channel & move on. Thank you for your comments on this & other videos& for watching but it won't take a genius to realize you are clearly not of the generation this comedy is aimed at. Please read the comments below you are clearly in. a minority. But thank you for watching. I wonder what video you'll comment on next may I suggest Stan Boardman. I look forward to reading another one of your comments.
