  • Sunglass Rob and Eyeglass Tyler are excited to compare the Costa Fantail vs the Whitetip. Both frames are a part of the core collection, which means they were built to perform on the water. The Whitetip and Fantail are constructed with a bio-based nylon material. This material will handle any type of weather mother nature throws at you without losing its shape. One key difference is the Fantail does not feature the venting system like the Whitetip. The Fantail is considered more of a true M fit while the Whitetip is more of an S to M. Check out the video to learn more about the Costa Fantail and Whitetip.

I like both the Costa Fantail and the Costa Whitetip sunglasses. However, I personally like the fantail because of the wider temple. While on the boat it seems to block more light coming in from the edges. Thanks for the comparison!

Whitetip on the way thanks to you. Jose were tooo big for my small face. Y’all do a great job, sunglasses could be tough to chat about.

Thanks for the comparison! I ordered the Fantail and i love the way it fit at the front but, that hooks at the end of the temple pinch behind my ears. Do they come with different temple shape? Will they stretch enough to stop hurting in that area or it means that doesn’t fit? Thanks

Would be cool if I can do this exact same video but add in the fathoms . I mean if they had a medium style fit Zane I would be all over that I love the design of design a lot better than the fathoms but

Does the Whitetip offer a gray 580g lens option? I can only find the plastic lens.

I have trouble finding sunglasses that fit well. I have a more of a medium size face I guess. I liked the Oakley five squared and straight jacket but looking for something a little more up to date. The white tails are close in size but just slightly larger by about 4mm in height and width so I think they would work better for me.

So I have a pair of Costa Fantails that are mossy oak shadow grass blades camo with the green polarized 580G lenses. I just turned them in for a warranty claim and Costa’s warranty department said that they are covered under warranty but that model is not available anymore? They gave me 5 options to choose from for a replacement pair of sunglasses all of which are Fantails, 2 pair they offered are black with the blue 580G lenses and then the other 3 options were tortoise, grey and I believe brown frames with the 580P lenses. Contacted their warranty claims department and asked why I couldn’t get the same camo frames that I currently have and they said they just don’t have those in stock in the warranty claims side and that what they have online is different from their claims department. Keep in mind my current Fantails are probably 3-4 yrs old. With that being said Costa warranty claims department was very helpful and said that since I didn’t like the options I was given they told me that I needed to select one of those pairs out of my options and that once that was done they’d email me a shipping label and then send me a 100% code that I could go to the website and select whatever pair I wanted.
My question is have they changed the nose piece design on the newer Fantails or are they the same still because if so the nose piece will probably fall apart again as I had another pair of costas’ prior to my current pair that did the very same thing. Also, the Fantails are a hair wide on my face. Kinda been looking into the Whitetips as supposedly they are a touch narrower. I’m very undecided at this point which ones to go with... I like the thought of the Whitetips slightly smaller frame and might fit my face better but I like the mossy oak shadow grass blades camo frames of the Fantails with the green 580G lenses. The Whitetips only come in a blue or grey 580G option with Black or Tortoise frames. Any help and or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

My biggest challenge is lens height. I have apple cheeks, so whenever I smile, my frames get pushed up by my cheeks. I’ve been wearing Oakley Flak Jackets (original, not XLT or 2.0) forever, but I’m tired of how they pull out/break off my hair when it gets caught between the frame and the rubber parts. A friend recommended Costas. I’m struggling to choose between the Whitetip and Caballitos. I’ve tried on the Whitetips and love the fit, but they still move up a little when I smile. I haven’t been able to find any place in town that has Caballitos in stock for me to try on. Also, I’m a little disappointed that the Caballitos don’t have as much of the hydrolite. I sweat *a lot* and get a lot of spray when kayaking, so preventing slip is important. Are there any side by side comparisons of the two frames?

I know this is old, I have the flak jacket, and XLJ. I found the flaks feel good, look small on me, but same problem of cheeks pushing. I like the Caballito, they have really grown on me and have the gap so my cheeks don’t push up. They fit better too, good sizing not too small or too big. That’s did you get? Usually I need something wider but not taller.

    The dimensions are almost identical
    Same frame width
Fit should be pretty much the same
I have Fantail and they pinch behind the ears and fog up. Nothing major but just a couple nitpicks. I think I’ll try Whitetip and see if they are better in those regards.

Hi Tom! The Whitetip may fit you better as the temples do not bend down like the Fantail does. Thanks for reaching out!

Thanks for letting us know they fog up. I definitely want glasses that will not fog up. Perhaps a curve 6 base will prevent that so the air flows better.

White Tip is a little to wide behind the temple. The frames don’t fit the side of my head they stick out like an egg🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I had the same issue with the fantail, i love it but they pinch a lot behind the ears. I think that this model without that hook will be perfect
