Man!! I watched some old SOAD stuff and just recalled there was commercial with Malakian on this amp so I searched YT and found your video. Everybody hates it ever since, but I think it is killer! You made it sound gorgeous, I love it. Transistor amps are not that bad at all, I love my Trademark 60 which was out there in similar years :) Cheers!
First time viewer and this is unrelated, but that's a goated playing position for sitting down. I don't understand why so many play with the neck being horizontal as it just doesn't feel good to hold it like that
Yeah it’s weird. It just feels way more natural to play that way. Maybe it’s where I’ve spent a lot of time playing standing up, it’s a similar kind of position. But yeah, I agree! Thanks for the comment
I knew to buy gear when they had deal after deal in the 2007 meltdown. I treasure those gear deals every time I get to use em. I sure could not afford them now.
In 2007 I bought a Marshall Vintage Modern head brand new for a great deal. Very nice sounding amp but not really what I was looking for - I was seduced by the purple tolex! Did a straight up trade on Craigslist for a Mesa Rectoverb 50 combo AND extension cab - THAT deal was the steal of my 2007. Still my daily driver, still sounds crushing, still in great shape. Shame I couldn’t take more advantage in ‘07
Ive played at length triple rectifiers, bogner uberschalls, heavily modded jcm800s, peavey 5150s. THIS THING CAN GET THE MOST UNGODLY, BOWEL RUMBLING, AGGRESSIVE TONES OF ANYTHING IVE EVER HEARD. PERIOD. Shame about the reliability issues. I fucking love thos thing. Great review. Its sad that even if you take care of or replace the fans, certain caps and resistors, replace the pots, the power amp can shit the bed at ANY moment. I FUCKING love the preamp on this thing
I have an mg100hcfx lol. It works though. Dude, i grabbed a rigel and it sounds like an od pedal in this loop. Is it defective or is everyone demoing it on tube amps? With od it sounds great but it has to be boosted out of the gate.
I don't think it'll be the tube/solid state thing. In my video I demoed it using the Orange Pedal Baby, that's solid state. It definitely needs a boost in front to get into really high gain territory, but I felt it had enough when the gain on the pedal was cranked. Hope that helps!
Hey, I'm not a guitarist or know alot about amps. But I believe my brother has a Marshall Mode Four MF350 with a MF400B. How much could this go for in US dollars?
I've had mine for about 20 years, loved it for all the time I used it. I retired it for the a reason you didn't mention. It weighs a F~*king Ton hehehe. I switched to a Blackstar OD100 and now using a Boss GT 1000 into a SD 170. (Pedal board amps). Long Live the M4
Well, your entitled to your opinion brother..... I've owned many Marshall amps and cabinets over many decades and the MF 350 is a great Guitar amplifier and the matching cabinets the 350 and 400 are some of the best cabs I've played through as you can throw anything at them and they don't distort and its actually a mosfet type of amp meaning its solid state and valve.... The best of both worlds. I love these Marshall series of amps and cabs.
I had one of these when they first came out. I played it for 2 weeks and the Motherboard got Fried. I plugged straight into the amp with the matching cab. In my personal opinion, Junk.
Remember going into play it again sams in derby and trying one of these out... Hated it back then because i was so new to everything but as ive got older i genuinely think they were cool bits of kit and something different. Safe to say 15/16yr old me would not agree with that but he could go f!*k himself ;) Some reet tasty tones you got there sir :)
Hey there, great content you put out my man 😀 May I ask you a question ? Where did you find that amp so cheap ( I really liked the tone ) ? Here in germany they try to pull 1.8k € out of your pocket for it. Greets from good 'ol germany 😉
Hey, thank you so much for the kind words!! There’s tons of them over here in the UK. I bought mine on eBay. There’s currently 5 on my local Facebook marketplace for between £200 and £250, plus a few more expensive ones up to around £350. 1.8k, wow!! Don’t do that!! Haha. If you do get one at some point, there are way more tones in there, I barely scratched the surface! Thanks for your comment 😊
if u use brain and good other stuff, marshall ms-2 will sound good ;) Cheap Marshall heads always was buy with cheap cabinet and play by poor guitar players :P
@@ironandzinc I had one for a decade and never ever had a problem, but it's a pretty tinny sound unless you really really really crank it. Great for recording!
The cabs this thing came with were fucking sick
Completely agree! I need to get one.
I put my marshall JCM 2000 through the MF400 cab.. the combo produces an amazingly unique sound
have one … it’s brutal

Alex Skolnick said it was the best amp Marshall ever made.
P.s. Picked a Blackstar Debut 50r because of your review. It is an absolute screamer 👍
I think you did an excellent job of showing the usable tones this amp will produce

@@JakeLeighGuitar Been that way for me since day one. Have to test out my Rhoads now see if it works for me sitting... lol.

Yeah I wish I could go back to those 2007 prices for a day or two! So many good deals I missed!

An absolute BRUTAL amp. Great tone. I personally think it looks the part as well. I've had two of them. I kept the second one. I still run live.

I like these amps. They respond like a valve amp when you hit them with a boost. Just don’t use the scoop switch!

@@JakeLeighGuitar i think its a defective unit. Thanks for the reply!
Great job Jake for 5k subs!!!!!🎉😎
Johnny5 used them as backups on a few of his tours. I used them, hard to dial in, but killer tones.
6:15 what's that for an interesting 🎸?
That’s an SBC guitar. They’re a small custom UK builder, they’re on Instagram etc if you wanna check them out. They make amazing stuff!
@@JakeLeighGuitarthank you . I will.

I have one, works nice for hair metal
Ah I haven’t tried it out with that yet. I’ll have to give it a go! Thanks.
I’ve never heard of this model. Thanks for the video
Man that amp sounds killer for hybrid tube/solid state amp.

Haha, totally agree!! I’ve done nearly the same thing, HX Stomp and Orange Pedal Baby. The heavy amps can stay home!

Awesome amps ......ive
had mine 15 yrs
Tube's don't rattle to the gigg
The amp wasn't bad! I had one and you had to crank the volume for it to sound good!
Amp 1 crunch sounded siiiiick

Ah yeah, that’s no good at all. Can definitely see why you’d say they’re junk!
I bought the mf350 head and the mf400 slanted cabinet for a whopping 200 euros for the entire half stack 😁

Haha!! Love that comment. Thanks, and thanks for the kind words too!! Yeah it’s funny how much our tone tastes change over time! 😊
nah... one of the best sounding ive ever heard. maybe everything else is cause for concern but same people say that about the bv100h which rips!

The mode 4 is hands dow one of the best bass amps ever made if you like distorted bass
You made it sound great
It sounds awesome. But it IS unreliable. I have two dead ones in my attic :)
so are they nor repairable? If not, whats the main issue that makes them unrepairable?
It’s definitely NOT ugly if anything
For me the worst Marshall amp ever ist the JCM 2000 Series. Now i have the JVM 410 for me the Best ever!
JCM2000 TSL100 was pretty bad as well.
Wrooooong
yo.. you don't want to go there.. those are words we can throw down to 💪
