By 1923, fifteen iconic baseball stadiums had been built so fans could enjoy America's wonderful pastime. By the time this documentary was filmed, four of those fifteen ballparks remained standing as they had when they were first built (without experiencing any upgrades): Wrigley Field, Comiskey Park, Fenway Park, and Tiger Stadium. When I was just 8 years old my Mom signed me up into the Big Brothers Association because of my Mom and Dad getting divorced 2 years earlier. The first outing I got to have with my new "brother" was in October of 1968 where he surprised me with a ticket to Game 5 of the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals. We were seated down the first base line on a bright sunny day and I was in complete awe and amazement! That day is still one of my favorite memories of my life as an 8 year old boy...glove in hand....waiting to get that elusive foul ball... I will never forget my day at Tiger Stadium...Thank you Mom for one of your best decisions ever for signing me up in that organization and thanks to the man who taught me how to catch and just plain volunteered to hang out with this kid for awhile.
Famous game - at least to us Tiger fans. The one where Lou Brock chose not to slide into home and got called out, giving the Tigers a glimmer of hope, something later that game they turned into the beginning of their march to the World Series title. Your ticket was a scarce and expensive one. That gentleman provided you with the memory of a lifetime.
THAT is a baseball memory! I remember true double headers, voting on paper cards for the all star ballot in the summer of 77/78 along the first base line. Only to be topped by being in the Right Field upper deck during the 84 World Series win.
As a Yankee fan growing up in the 80s and 90s, Tigers stadium and Fenway Park were two of my favorite stadiums to watch my Yankees play on the road. I also miss the old Yankees stadium as well.
As a Sox fan, I feel the pain on losing your old ballpark.

This was the best stadium in the MLB. What a pure joy it was to watch a game there in the 70s and 80s, the Atmosphere was the best.
It was an outdated dump with no playback scoreboard and awfull sightlines with obstructed views because of the beams

@@ice-tsbodycount4054 I agree Tiger Stadium wasn't exactly a beautiful looking stadium unlike Fenway which is a pretty old ballpark. Matter of it looked like like an industrial building on the outside. But it had its moments one I remember was the All Star Game 1972 I believe and Reggie Jackson hit one of the longest and highest home runs I ever seen on TV at right field past the two decks over the roof and would have gone across the street had the baseball not hit that tower light.
John , I don’t think you’ve ever been there. Tiger stadium definitely had a video scoreboard smh… the things people say on the internet with such confidence amaze me.
I had been a Tiger fan since 1957, and got to the stadium for the first time in the early 1990s. When I walked into the stadium and saw the field it must have been like a Catholic's first visit to St.Peters in Rome. I'll never forget it. The final year the Tigers played there I went on a stadium tour and scooped up some dirt from foul territory that is in a place of honor in my back room.
The greatest old ballpark in Major League Baseball history. I have many memories of games at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull. Been to games since I was 8 years old when the stadium what's still green. With wooden seats before they went to blue and orange and plastic seats. I was in tears during the closing ceremony in 1999. It's sad to see some of these guys here who have since passed away. Ernie Harwell, George Kell, Charlie Gehringer. Jeff Daniels look so young here. One of the celebrities who is also a tiger fan along with Jose Feliciano, Tom Selleck and the late George C Scott.
I practically grew up at Tiger Stadium. So many memories. You could be in the upper deck in the outfield and have conversations with the players below... you were that close to the action. I miss that stadium terribly.
It’s sad I never got to see this stadium it looked absolutely amazing it is definitely one of the most iconic stadiums in MLB history it’ll never go away R.I.P. Tiger Stadium you’ll be forever missed from a baseball fan who wished he could’ve seen this stadium
It was a thing of beauty. I spent many a summer afternoon there in the 80's.
I got to say hi to so many of my favorite players while at Tiger Stadium. Wishing Reggie Jackson "Happy Birthday" from the upper deck, and having him look up and tip his helmet (because he could hear me). Saying Hi to Willie Randolph from the upper deck rail (right above the visitors dugout), and him waving to me. Telling Alan Trammell we need a hit, from seats right by the on deck circle, and having him give a wink. Yelling at Mike Blowers (from seats by the visitors bullpen), for striking out the 4th time, and him staring at me while hearing every word (no swearing). It was the best ballpark I have ever been in.
So right! So intimate. I loved to heckle. They could hear. Nobody really heckles anymore (maybe for the best?); Player can't hear anyway cause it's too far away and his walk up music drowns out everything.
Forget the few blocked views they claimed about Tiger Stadium. Few sat behind those anyway. It's the frocking luxury boxes they wanted to sell. Pushed upper deck up and back about 100' or so. That upper deck front seat is same distance as back row of the Upper deck of Old Stadium. But the luxury box is happy as hell.

Silverdome, the palace had a few more good years in it, old tiger 🏟 stadium had mini TV 📺 every where in the stadium 🏟

I well remember the 1971 all star game. A showcase of legends. Of course Reggie hit one off the light tower in rt centerfield.

As a life long Cubs Man, I really feel bad for Tiger fans about losing the old park. I always loved seeing games on TV from the old Tiger Stadium. Highlights on TWIB. Man, it was terrific. It DID have an Aura about it that maybe nobody but Cubs, Redsox and Yankee fans today can really understand. I know I just couldn’t imagine the Cubbies playing anywhere but Wrigley.

Saw two games there. Once, in fifth grade, my dad let me skip school. We drove up and saw them play the Mariners in Ken Griffey, Jr.’s rookie year. We sat in the outfield and he talked with all the fans. A couple years later we went back. Sat behind the third base dugout and caught a foul ball. I loved Tiger Stadium.
Great memories for someone from Kalamazoo! I will always cherish the times my Grandparents would take my brother and I to Tiger Stadium in the early to mid 1980’s to see the Tigers play. I you weren’t there, you listened to Ernie Harwell on the radio. Seeing Michigan and Trumble now, breaks my heart.

My Grandpa took me to game 5 and we got tickets for $100 a piecefrom an attendant at the parking lot that we always parked at by Michigan and Trumbull behind the bar..... Nothing sports-related compares to the moment to Kirk hit the homerun.... I was 16 years old and the hair stood up on my arms and I will never forget it

I was fortunate to win season tickets 2 years in a row in 96-97. I was in middle school(8th grade) than high school. I caught a home run 2 years in a row in the grand stands during this promotion they had the first 3 games. Orlando Miller and Phil Nevin. Me and my friends took the bus and never missed a game. Missed some school to do that.
Players new us on a first name basis. We became friend with Brian Hunters nephew and Brian actually drove us home in his suburban. The last game at Tiger stadium I started to cry in the 8th inning. So many fun memories. The team wasn’t good record wise but we had so much fun and I caught over 100 batting practice home runs and 4 in game home runs got everyone’s autograph, Tony Clark gave me his wrist band and batting gloves, Todd Jones gave my friend Sean a glove.
All the players were good guys except for Bobby Higginson, he was a premadonna if there ever was one. He never stopped to sign autographs unless u were a hot woman. The one time I got his autograph was because he picked up 2 hot blondes walking by the parking lot so when he finally stopped I threw a ball in his lap. Ernie Harrell was the nicest man ever, Tony Clark, Damion Easley, Brian Hunter and Todd Jones were all great guys. There was a pitcher name John Cummings who threw batting practice to me and 4 friends on summer break at our high school. It was so fun having those interactions as a kid.
The last season at Tiger Stadium I didn’t have season tickets but through the relationships and friends we had built with everyone including the Ushers, Security, and field crew we always got in free, including the last game at Tiger Stadium. I remember when they opened a gate to let us in the last game the fans outside got so angry saying “who’s kids are those” thinking we must be the son’s of someone important with the team. RIP Earnie, Al.

Sat everywhere it seemed in that beautiful ballpark. Outfield upper decks were my favorite. You could really see everything and get a feel of just how unique and special of a place you were in! Rip
My dad, RIP, 1960-2023, back in the 1997-1998 season took me to at least ONE GAME, some times TWO, every home stand. My Mom worked for Media One, which is known today as Xfinity, and one of the perks of her job was getting more free Tigers tickets that you could shake a stick at. Don’t get me wrong, I liked baseball, but by late July I was a little pooped on going downtown every other night. We parked in the SAME lot, with the SAME parking lot attendant, Dad stopped and got peanuts and a coke from the SAME guy @ the corner of Trumbull and Mich Ave.
Thanks Pops..as a 34yr old man now, and really missing you after you’ve passed, I finally understand it. You wanted your son to have those memories. The same memories the guys on this video talked about..I can’t thank you enough for doing that for me. I know your Dad barely took you to half a dozen your entire life. I’ve STILL been to more games at Tigers Stadium than Comerica Par! I’ll never forget those days, Pop..I miss you & love ya!

My Dad used to pull us out of school to go to the Stadium. To this day, my Dad still refers to the ground as Briggs.
Willie Horton actually used my bat there in a game after he broke his on a foul tip. Hit a home run with mine!

Two amazing moments I remember, Monday Night Baseball in 1976 when Mark "the Bird" Fidrych beat the Yankees and of course, Gibby's home run off Goose Gossage in the 84 World Series.
This was such a great experience to see this iconic stadium. One of the coolest venues in the history of sports
Loved that place -- it's where I saw my first MLB game as a kid. Denny McLain started that night and Tigers beat the Yankees in extra innings . I remember seeing so many "firsts" that day . The vendors yelling out their wares for sale, tossing your empty popcorn box on the concrete by your feet , grasping the concept that grown men got PAID to play baseball & of course the first time using a big trough in the Men's room...- LOL ! ... It's been over 50 years since that night and "the corner" is still with me. I met Mr. Harwell in his later years and that man was an absolute gentleman in EVERY sense of the word.
Denny pitched my 1st game there too, the 2nd game of a twin bill, was 1968, Denny got rocked that day by whitesox i think it was 6-0
Saw Albert belle hit two homeruns there in 1995, we drove from Cleveland to see our tribe play. I was pry 13 I wish I would’ve been more aware of the history of the place when I was there. I do remember Brian Giles and Jim Thome hitting balls out of the stadium during batting practice. Good memories

I know that I attended the Opening Day game bc that's when Billy's Bleacher Brigade (my group) ruled the Upper-Deck Bleachers.
That will always be my Holy Place. I would ALWAYS sit in the left field upper deck, front row. Sun in your face, feet up on the railing, heckling whoever played Left Field : ) God, I loved that place. You were so close to the field and the players. Now at Comerica you need binoculars behind the lines... So sad. Tiger Stadium was IT for me. From McLain and Lolich to Trammel and Whitaker. Bless you BOYS !!!
Perfectly said, K Mac! Tiger Stadium was amazing. Huge yet cozy, majestic but so much about putting the fan as close to game as possible. Such great echoes, the way the decking held in the crack of the bat. Such a velvety background, all around, because of the deep shadows created by that decking. Any homer or foul ball not hit out of the park could be reached by a fan. I better stop, or I get too teary/angry that it was destroyed for no good reason other than Ilitch's greed and vanity. Ya don't know what ya got until it's gone....

Tiger Stadium, “Mistake by the Lake” in Cleveland, Memorial Stadium in Baltimore, classic Fenway & Yankee stadium all need to be in The Show.
Maybe with next gen systems coming out we may get those stadiums. This current gen of consoles has reached its limits with capability.

My 106 year old Grandpa tells me stories of going down to Navin Field with his buddies to watch the Tigers play the Yankees, and of course the main attraction was Babe Ruth! My Grandpa told me the story of how Babe Ruth called out a home run shot by pointing his bat to the outfield and then swatting a home run over the fences, and then playing to the booing crowd as he rounded the bases to hit home. My Grandpa said a lot of fans would cheer Ruth as well.
There are so many more stories shared between my Grandpa, my Dad, and I, about all of our wonderful, and some not so wonderful, memories that took place at Navin Field/Briggs Stadium/Tiger Stadium from the 1920's to the 1990's. And I'm talking about Lions and Tiger games. We had fun, and loved to go downtown to "The Corner" any chance we had!
my dad would take me there in the 60s to watch the Tigers and Lions play. also would go to Olympia stadium to watch the Red Wing games. back during Gordy Howe.
That very first time, when you were a kid. Holding your dads hand, ALL THE SMELLS, and seeing that grass when you got halfway in... it was like entering the land of Oz.
Michigan Mister I was like that for my first ever Yankees game back in 2016. First ever visit to New York (from the UK) & I couldn’t actually believe I was there.

1967 Little League trip for the 12 YO.Thought I walked into heaven after only seeing it on Black and White TV.

I've been watching the Ken Burns' "Baseball" series for the past week - it's streaming, for free, on PBS to help people (like us) get through this baseball-less time. This fine video, in addition to the "Baseball" series, has made me realize how short-sighted almost every major league club has been over the years regarding the destruction of some priceless stadiums. With the exception of the Cubs and the Red Sox, no other team has managed to hang onto the old ballparks. I wish the Tiger's brass had the wisdom of the Red Sox ownership.....instead of tearing down Fenway, they chose to invest in it, and improve it, and now have one of the most iconic, and lucrative, ballparks in all of baseball. Look at what's happening down in Arlington, Texas. The Rangers have abandoned, what looked to me, to be a perfectly fine ballpark with lots of history and were set to open this season in a glittering new stadium - one with plenty of luxury boxes and ticket prices that will be much higher. I grew up in the 60's going to the original Yankee Stadium and Shea Stadium to see the Mets. The new Yankee Stadium is an absolute joke, and Citi Field just doesn't have the charm that Shea did. Hard to believe, but Dodger Stadium is now the 3rd oldest ballpark in the majors. For a park built in the 60's, it is a classic and I'm glad to see their ownership making improvements to the park while keeping its original character. All you folks who posted a comment to this video sure were lucky to take in games at old Tiger Stadium. May she rest in peace.

Man, I miss that place. Grew up in Toledo and worked in the machine tool industry in and around Detroit for years. Used to take off on sunny afternoons and just drive over. Parking was like, $5. Cheap good seats. Then over to Nemos afterwards.

Philip Bess helped me with some of the research for my B.Arch thesis, which was a design for a ballpark in Portland OR. Check out his design for Armour Field, which was meant to replace Comiskey Park. These classic ballparks really were something special and it's too bad that so many of them are gone
My love of baseball came from my Father who took me to this ballpark. I have many fond memories of Tiger Stadium not just because I was with my dad but the games I saw there, especially the 1968 World Series. I remember being in the back of the old wooden bleachers where I could barely see anything but part of that group cheering the Tigers on was so cool. As I got older I used to love driving with my friends from the rural country in Brighton into the big city along Michigan Avenue to go past Tiger Stadium and all the life around Corktown when there was a game being played. The when I was doing an internship for Channel 4 News(WDIV), I was downtown during the big win of the 1984 World Series when a hell broke loose. When I worked for the City of Detroit, I used to drive everyday from my house in Dearborn Heights past "the Corner" and just loved going by the stadium as it was a like a church to me. I remember going to one of the last games there and sitting in the bleachers because they were the only seats I could get but now they were aluminum and I could actually see the game, a throw back to an old memory. Lot of history and ball players at that spot. I am sad the stadium is gone but am glad a piece of it is preserved for younger baseball fans to play there but I will always have the memories of Tiger Stadium.
That was a great ballpark , my Dad took me to my first game in 1969 with my Granddad and my 2 Uncles. My Uncle John caught a foul ball off Willie Horton and that was such a thrill to me as a small boy of 7 years old. What happened to that ball? My brothers and I played with that ball until the cover came off! Then we got to know the anatomy of a baseball... I ended up attending many games there, too many to count. Although I have kept every ticket stub. A Tiger tote bag full. I was at the last game when Robert Fick hit the Grand Slam for the win. I'll never forget the memories there. Sorely; I will miss the old ballpark at Michigan and Trumbull.

Sat in the G.M.'s Bill Lajoie's seats in May 1984 and we were so close, Jack Morris asked Julie, " How are the Nachos?" That was Tiger Stadium. We spread my brother's ashes in the outfield in 2010. No place he'd rather be!
I grew up in the 70's & 80's and went to countless games at Tiger Stadium. They had the best views in baseball there, way better than Comerica Park. As far as the video goes, I can tell this was an old documentary, but this was my first time seeing it. It was cool to see Erie Harwell, Al Kaline and George Kell again.
Me and my high school buddies slept on the sidewalks outside stadium to be first to be able to get “ obstructed view “ tickets for the 5 th game of the ‘68 world series game vs. St. Louis Cardinals..we were behind a pole but still had the best time..55 years ago
Tiger Stadium was my second out of town park I visited, beside Milwaukee County Stadium. It’s now a field with a mock baseball diamond where Tiger Stadium sat.
The Police Athletic League (PAL) bought the land, and with the help of donations, rebuilt the stands around home plate. They have since added condos, and put in some stores. While it's not open to the public like it was when the Navin Field Grounds crew maintained it, at least it's not a shopping center or parking lot.

I remember these old ball parks well, as I'd seen a few of them. They looked, felt and smelled like baseball, not amusement centers. But there was reasons so many of them were replaced. Everybody forgets all the complaints of awkward seating, obstructed views, poor parking, old bathrooms and such. Fenway did a great job with a bit of remodeling and updating facilities as to keep the old atmosphere, but there are still places there where your view of the batters circle is completely blocked. Baltimore did a great job of a new park with old baseball feeling.

I have seen games in Tiger Stadium, Wrigley Field, Riverfront Stadium and Jack Murphy. The old parks like Detroit and Chicago have the best memories.
But yet nobody with deep pockets tried to save her.... I was 13 in 99’ and my dad was placed by Chrysler up in Detroit and everytime I visited I went to see the park, sad thing is I fell in love with a ballpark they’d stop playing in that year. I went to 4 games there that year, and my pops gave me full reign to run around and soak as much as I could up of it. I still remember my favorite spot in the world was down the right field line in the overhang as I sat there for 3 innings by myself watching Ken Griffey jr and Alex Rodriguez bat as the sun slowly went down disappearing behind the stadium. That is probably the most content and fulfilled I ever felt. I’m sad I didn’t go to the last game, but got to still visit the field time to time to run the bases and play catch until that too was taken away. I still have a paint chip in my wallet from the flag pole that stood in play inside the stadium. So, yea I’m bitter about my old sentimental friend being taken away.

Yep, that right field overhang, especially the one just in foul territory, was a beautiful spot. If I had to pick my favorite man-made place on earth, it would be this part of Tiger Stadium. Section 434. Up and out there, you felt like a bird, riding an airstream that held you still, right over the field, looking over the right fielder's shoulder. I'm glad that you got to experience some of it, ktat01. It was a magical place, indeed.
Sat in the porch many times in the 90s! What a beautiful place to watch a baseball game, I'm so honored to have experienced that. Want part of my ashes to be spread there if possible.
ktat01 why would someone with "deep pockets" try to save the classic old stadium, when the sports business, in this case, the Tigers, could simply hold the city and state ransom and steal tax payer money to build their new place of business? isn't it funny how capitalists turn into socialists when it comes to them taking taxpayer money?
Fenway Park and Wrigley Field still stand because the fans wont stand for the Red Sox and Cubs moving to new digs. it wasn't up to deep pockets to save Tiger Stadium, it was up to fans and citizens to say no, we dont want a new stadium and we arent going to use our tax money to build one. that didnt happen, at least not in a big enough fashion, so the old girl is gone.

Tiger Stadium will always be one of the cathedrals of sports stadiums, Living near the DC area I'm waiting on the word for the demolition of RFK, The new parks and stadiums will never replace these legendary venues.
Oh man..... i was born in 1960.... Dad took me to Tiger Stadium in 1966, walking under the tunnel to have that magnificent, kelly green ball park appear before your eyes was incredible....we would go dozens of times a year with boy scouts, paper boy trips, little league outings....free bat day for years ! Through the years I'd always sit in the lower deck, right field, just so I could study every move #6 , Al Kaline, would make.... Watching Denny McLain with that high kick on the mound, Mickey Lolich ! The lefty ! Dad got me to 2 Yankees game with #7 Mickey Mantle,.... when we all were licensed in 75, 76, we were skipping out of high school to go watch Mark "the bird" Fidrych every time he pitched..$1.50 to sit in the bleacher creature section in Center field back then......the old guys sitting alone, chomping on cigars, listening to Ernie Harwell on a transiter radio, keepin score on their score cards.... the smell of the ballpark hot dogs in thoses steel vats, the peanuts, the FANTASTIC Tiger Stadium..... I had my Dad and Ernie Harwell for my first 42 years....they both left me the same year......A huge hole never to be filled, memories and love, never to be fotgotten. Love you Dad. Miss you every day. 🇺🇸
In the movie 61*, Old Yankee Stadium (from 1961) in that movie was actually Tiger Stadium. They filmed and dressed it for all the Yankees home games in that movie, and even dressed it for Tigers home games when the Yankees were on the road against Detroit in this film.
Great video! I remember watching late 70s Yankees playing against Tigers and even then i could sense how special this ballpark was..and still is! Its a PAL field now!

I remember seeing one of the best pitched games by Jack Morris I've ever seen in my life there. It was a one hit shutout against the Kansas City Royals in 1990. Jack gave up a single in the first inning and got George Brett to ground into a double play. The rest of the game he gave up neither a hit or a walk. So he technically faced the minimum number of batters you could in a complete nine inning game, 27. As he came out for the 9th the crowd was giving him a standing ovation. I had infield box seats down the first base line that day so an excellent view of home plate and very close to the action.
When I was a young boy I'll always remember the "Blue Streak", a blue band that ran at the upper, outside wall of the stadium all the way around. The color was unique and used on the flag of the Lions who also used to play there.
Went to Tiger Stadium in 1998. Hadn't realized how much the right field upper deck extended out over the field of play. I've never seen another stadium with the same configuration.
1) On the one hand, because of the overhang, high fly balls to RF were more likely to become homers than in other parks, so it was a very friendly park for left handed pull hitters such as Norm Cash.
2) On the other hand, it was very difficult to hit doubles or triples to RF there. Any drive to RF with any height would go into the upper deck. Low hit line drives could get cut off earlier before they could get to the wall for extra bases and an excellent fielder such as Al Kaline was an expert in positioning himself to turn potential hits into outs.
A unique ball park with all sorts of quirks that was a delight to visit!

I'm from Ny moved to Detroit area in 87 saw a few Yankees tigers games and a few others. One was on Monday night baseball. Was at old Yankee stadium, Cleveland's mistake by the lake. And tiger stadium was great. Just a fantastic place.
We visited Detroit in 1964 and saw the Tigers play the Orioles. Sat in the first row of the upper deck between third base and home. Greatest seats in the world, you were so close to the field you could almost hear the players. Not at all like today’s parks. I remember it was the only ballpark with an upper deck around the entire stadium. Don Demeter hit a home run off Wally Bunker that day and there was a giant spark plug on the center field scoreboard that went off. I also remember it was close to 440 feet to dead centerfield and a flag pole was based at the wall. Bog Powell hit the base of the flag pole on the fly that day. Even though I was born and raised in Chicago, Tiger Stadium was always my favorite ball park.
Oh my. those upper deck seats along the foul lines were the best! Great ball parks for the fans.
my favorite ball player, Rocky Colavito played for the Tigers from 1960 thru 1963. Many of his 139 hrs within that time period were hit at Tiger Stadium
My dad took me to see my first baseball game there. I remember first walking up to the park, and how imposing it felt. It's right in your face on the street. This was the 70's.

Yankee fan here. I’ve always loved Tiger Stadium and I think it’s a travesty that iconic parks like this one and old Yankee Stadium were bulldozed. You can’t recreate something with this much character and history.
Totally a travesty... I remember seeing the Tigers in Yankee Stadium in 2004, we weren't very good - but to see that stadium in-person after so many times on TV - it was great. The new one...I'm in no rush. Probably feels the same for fans of a certain age looking at Comerica Park vs Tiger Stadium.

I really miss this place, its where I went as a kid in the 80's and it had a feeling that these new huge stadiums simply dont have. Its completely gone now, I wish they had left it up but they totally destroyed it.

I wish they would have considered the features that made Tiger Stadium great when they built Comerica Park.
Frocking luxury boxes pushed everything up and back. Couldn't keep upper deck close cause it'd have block their view.
What bothers me about Comerica Park is that the seats are so far away from the action. Also very little shade. At Tiger Stadium, you got both.

My absolute favorite ballpark.
I took part in a promotion where you could pretend to broadcast a helf-inning and you sat in part of the press box that extended out into the field. It was a fantastic viewpoint. This is clearly a very old video (1980s, I'd guess) and Tiger Stadium (which also housed the Lions for decades) is no more. I'm glad I got a chance to spend a day there. You really got to feel all the baseball history in the place just being inside it.

They beat the Cardinals in the Series when all the "experts" said they couldn't I was routing for the Tigers when watching those games on television in New York.
Trapz, I was THERE! My Pop's was one of the cameramen for the Detroit News that took the picture of Bill Freehan tagging Lou Brock out at the plate. He didn't know he got the shot until the next day!? Later it was everywhere and got him a big raise! Such an underdog comeback!
The white painted exterior looks similar to Chicago's old Comiskey Park.

I was fortunate enough to see a game here as a kid in 1997 against the Oakland A's. I'll cherish it forever.
Tiger Stadium 440ft to straight away center field INSANE
It actually measured about 220 but 440 Looked impressive! Remember one opening day when Larry Herndon hit one off the facing of the upper deck in strait away center field against the Yankees? Even Lou Pinnela was SO impressed
I also saw the lumber yard where Mantle and Gibson hit their moon shots.
I saw Mark "The Bird" Fidrych pitch on Monday Night Baseball. 50K fans. When they show that game on TV, I see myself in the stands third inning foul ball hit near me. I saw Nolan Ryan pitch a No hitter against the Tigers... I was with my GrandFather who has since passed; I was wondering why our crowd was cheering for the other teams pitcher; My GrandFather told me we just saw a historic game, that's why. I saw my favorite Tiger, Willie Horton hit a ball into the absolute LAST row of the upper deck in left field. I caught two baseballs at that stadium; I don't have them anymore, but I do have a ton of memories.

Dad used to get box-seat tickets for us from his company, front-row, upper-deck, right over first base (I can still picture Norm Cash picking em out the dirt). But that one guy was right, if you were lucky enough to get a seat near home plate you could really tell just how good major league pitching is. I was fortunate enough to sit in a seat that was right off the field, right behind the on-deck circle where the netting ended (it was a season ticket seat the owner didn't want in late September) and I saw just how much that ball dances around when it's pitched. That was the day I learned to Ted Williams was correct, "The hardest thing to do in sports is hit a baseball." God, I loved that old ballpark.

Yes me too! I flew to Detroit from Chicago one weekday morning summer '92 to see Sox in a day game but it got rained out. Did get to spend afternoon all over the stadium though before they called it.

I went to Detroit to watch a game the last year it was open. If you did not pay attention you could be killed, the seats were that close to the field. it was a great place to watch a game
Watched many a game from all parts of the ballpark, but my favorite was sitting on the benches on the roof on top of the right field upper deck before they closed it down, because it was a fire hazard. You had bring your food with you from below and you could set it on the flat table top like surface they had set up that ran the whole length of the place.
I had tears in my eyes watching this. To think that the wave caused structural damage to our beloved stadium is a shame!😢
Never got a chance to get there. Would've loved it im sure.
