Set Phasers To Fun | Star Trek: Infinite (Star Trek Grand Strategy) - SPONSORED VIDEO

- Star Trek: Infinite is a space grand strategy game by Paradox Interactive, who were kind enough to sponsor this video (hence the big words SPONSORED VIDEO in the title), which sees us take control of one of the major Star Trek factions!
You can choose between the Federation, the Klingons, the Romulans or the Cardassians, with each faction having their own unique visual styles, traits, buildings and storylines.
Also because the game is tied into Star Trek lore there's a lot of references and nods and Easter Eggs to many different aspects of the show, which for a Trek nerd like me is fantastic!
We choose to play as the Federation and we get to work exploring strange new worlds and investigating anomalies. We find a talking alien seed, a few interdimensional beings and some really massive writing!
Of course we have to keep everything ticking over so we gather resources, expand our territory, build new structures on our planets, the normal sort of grand strategy things.
Infinite is based on the Stellaris game engine, with some of the more complicated bit removed so it's a little more streamlined, so if you've played Stellaris then you'll fit right in with this.

With Star Trek: Infinite there is no singular way to play. Whether you wish to take the route of diplomacy, espionage, warfare, or a mix of all of these, there are multiple paths to victory. You are in the command, and the fate of the galaxy is in your hands!
Choose between the United Federation of Planets, Klingon Empire, Romulan Star Empire, or Cardassian Union. You will take on the role of the leader in charge of all the major decisions of your faction as the game unfolds. With each faction having their own unique styles of play, your decisions determine how successful you are in reaching your goals.
Star Trek: Infinite has been meticulously created to provide an immersive Star Trek experience while allowing you to shape the story of your playthrough according to the choices you make as the leader of your chosen faction. As you take on the role of the Federation, you'll have the opportunity to recruit iconic captains and officers, including Picard, Janeway, Sisko, and Data to name a few. Meanwhile, other factions offer their own set of iconic characters to enlist, such as Gowron, Makbar, Garak, and many more.
Beyond the potential cast of characters you recruit to your faction, the game grants you access to a range of starships from the Star Trek universe, tailored to each faction's arsenal. From the Federation's reliable Intrepid- and Defiant-class ships, the menacing Cardassian Galor-class vessels, the sleek Romulan D'deridex, or even the formidable Klingon Negh'Var battleships.
Of course, the Enterprise-D can be developed and added to the Federation fleet through the bespoke storytelling system developed for Star Trek: Infinite.
Star Trek: Infinite is built upon the core systems of Stellaris, leveraging the deep and complex system and making them its own. Aspects of these systems have been streamlined and simplified to better resonate with the Star Trek franchise.

Are you kiddin me? A paradox stellaris like game about star Trek? Make a series NOW!! 😂😂😂
You might want to check out Star Trek New Horizons mod for Stellaris.
I do as well want a series for that. Thats geeky 😍😂
Penge, when they talked about that grain, I thought you were going to have to deal with Tribbles. LOL!
I think we're all glad we didn't see Klingon Penge. Very hard to mix tea and brutality.
1:30 "Each one has got their own pros and Khaaaaaans!"
Oooh thanks for covering this game. I was trying to decide whether it not to get it, and after seeing it, I definitely want it.
No worries about it being a sponsored video... good on you for getting someone to pay you to play their game! Living the dream!
Id check out the reviews first if i was you, a lot of unhappy people with the game in its current state.
@@turosechil8798 maybe worth waiting a bit then
@@PrinceofTurov1 For sure with that price tag. A lot of patching usually takes place with paradox games from what i hear after launch. Il personally stick with new horizon for now even if the AI there is kinda brain dead.
I love Star Trek. Thanks for playing this. Series, please?! Pretty please?!
Live long and prosper, Penge. 🖖That was a great look at Star Trek Infinite. There hasn't been a real Star Trek Grand Strategy game since Birth of the Federation and that was around 25 years ago when Voyager was still airing. I do remember that quite fondly.
Congratulations on getting a sponsor... I'm sure the extra tea and cake will be enjoyed. Fun game but too complicated for me. I enjoyed watching though, as always.
Paradox games are always quite comprehensive and detailed! When you get into them they are very immersive though, they lure you in and keep you there!
A BIG thumbs up from this Star Trek fan/addict. So much so that I'm now going to re-watch all of DS9, my absolute favourite ST series. Avery Brooks as Sisko (such a good singing voice), Garak, Quark ... I just hope you get to put DS9 back around Bajor and add the Defiant to your fighty fleet. I mean, DS9's timeline coincides with Picard and the Enertprise-D following the Battle of Wolf 359. Anyway, really enjoyed this look at the game and your unbridled enthusiasm. Cheers
@@John_Onestrand TOS means well but it is dated. Tng s1e1 to introduce everyone, then just skip to season 3 lol. I think all of DS9 is good. Voyager is hit and miss all the way through. Enterprise for the post 9/11 feels
Penge and the Federation...perfect and most obvious combination! 😄
Make this a series
I love Star Trek
Me too!
Hot?
I would love a Mirror universe terran empire.
Awesome for getting sponsored (and being honest about it)! However, you seem to be the only one who has had a good experience with this. Basic Quality assurance hasn't been done, the game isn't loading up for people, the game doesn't recognise that it is being loaded for Mac rather than PC. I won't labour on about the issues. Check out the IGN review or the Steam review section... car crash.
It's really sad as it had the potential not to be another Imperator Rome.
I won't lie, I had problems loading the game initially, it just kept crashing. I had to change the graphics settings from the loader so it opened up in a full screen window rather than exclusive full screen, and also I had to turn vsync off.
It's a shame it's not working well because I really did enjoy the game.
@@TheGeekCupboard I can't love your comment, but I do.
It is such a massive shame, especially given the awesomeness of other unmentionable (mods) out there. I really was tempted to pre-order the game, but didn't as I got caught in the Imperator Rome incident.
I am just so disappointed, had I been wrong and the reviews were good I would have picked it up by now.
Your enthusiasm is fantastic and your instruction is great. Like previous comments, please do a full series using the federation - thank you!
I like the kirk method of diplomacy and exploration. as the song said. "we come in peace! shoot to kill shoot to kill." the game looks interesting but it seems rather bare bones. the star trek mod new horizon covers the entire galaxy and you can play pretty much anyone you want.
It's worse than that, he's dead, Jim, dead, Jim, dead!
There's life there, but not as we know it and there's Klingons off the starboard bow.
Scrape them off, Jim!
Boldly going foward, cause we can’t find reverse 🫡
There's Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, starboard bow;
There's Klingons on the starboard bow, scrape 'em off, Jim
The Romulans are a stable empire. Until their star goes supernova.
Is that in the game? It'd be pretty cool.
I think it is in the game, yes!
Welcome to the USS Botherations. Live oolong and have a biscuit! 🤣
More please. With sugar in earl grey hot tea on top.
there's something that aches me seeing how the stars are no in the places they are meant to be at
Wait, what? You are on Earth? No way. (sorry but that is what my mind did when you said "I'm on Earth believe it or not")
Can confirm: I am on Earth.
I would guess with the 2 groups of humans those are the Alpha Centaurans, though I suppose like the Stellaris mod they could be canonizing human offshoots.
Penge? Please!
please tell me, you will make a series out of this! come on! you have to! infinite litteraly screams: "come one Penge! i wanna be a series!"
can't believe you got the cerretos! oh wait! yes! yoiu actually can merge two fleets, i saw it today in an gaming stream from another yt ber on twitch. there is some where an option if you markinbg both fleets, i just can't remember where exactly
i'm getting "birth of the federation" vibes
Please mighty SIr Penge... May we have some more?
Are you kidding me! Live long and prosper. Engage! Geeks unite un the cupboard.
No man. Finding anomaly were never a good thing in Star Trek. Good vid.
As someone who's played the ST mod to Stellaris more than the base game I have high hopes even if I think at least early on before DLC's the gameplay will be pretty locked in.
There is a LOT to the game, so much that I couldn't really cover it in one video. We didn't see any combat, look at any Governmental stuff, we didn't really do much in the way of diplomacy with the other factions, there is a lot to cover, but having played it for a little while it's a really neat game, and all the artwork and proper Star Trek references are wonderful.
Oh I suspect there is a lot to do if this is a proper Paradox title. I'm just also aware if this is a proper Paradox title it may have years of DLC that open up different eras and we could play a TOS era Klingon Augment Empire or alternate realities (like really any player run game of Crusader Kings or EU4) and play a Mirror Terran Empire, (or just a slightly more pragmatic Federation), etc. @@TheGeekCupboard
Sad they left out TOS characters and even the Enterprise characters. For early game it would have been cool to have included them and their possible influences. Weren't the Federation and Starfleet formed at the same time? Anyway... thanks for showing it and my wallet hates you! : ))
Starfleet was before the Federation Captain Archer was part of Starfleet it was integrated into the Federation in 2161
I guess they do run the risk of things not happening at their proper times or in their proper sequence if they try to cover all the Trek eras, but I agree it would have been wonderful to have Kirk and Spock zipping around the place.
I guess they couldn't really do Enterprise because that pre-dates The Federation.
@@TheGeekCupboard They could have you start on just one planet and then have to find the others and make the Federation yourself. I'm just nitpicking though...
Eventual DLCs?
Seems a lot like if EU4 and Stellaris had a baby named Star Trek. Could be interesting. Could be another March of Eagles.
More please
The silent alarm has to do with espionage.
As a Trek fan myself (outside of the new shows *spits* ) I’m interested in seeing this, so this video helps very much.
In terms of the new shows, the final series of Picard was fantastic, it may have brought a tear to my eye, and I really really enjoy Lower Decks, it just lets the writers do some fun things with Star Trek that might not be possible with live action!
Tbh I still don’t like Picard, all the seasons, that’s just me it seems, but I’m really not a fan of Lower Decks, I myself don’t think the Rick & Morty style fits Star Trek.
I stick with the original stuff which luckily this game seems to stick to.
Now if only Star Trek: Resurgence was on Steam.
I've liked Prodigy and SNW as well. @@TheGeekCupboard
@@rubaiyat300SNW has a hate boner for Spock for some reason and they turned one of my favorite Trek species into a Xenomorph knockoff.
I haven't seen either of those, I need to invest in Paramount+ but all the streaming service costs are mounting up a bit...
If psradox make new games with star wars or star gate, they eill have a lot of succes.
While it'll most likely be a future DLC.... I am disappointed that there is no Borg.
Picard is drinking decaff Earl Grey these days. Must be an age thing because I've been drinking it for the last 5 years or so, and I'm only in my 50's. Its not Earl Grey though.
More pls. Tea! Earl Grey! Hot!
I'm a huge Trekkie and have played lots of trek games over the years. Still on the fence about this one. It looks like it is just a total conversion mod for stellaris.
It is a bit like that but with some proper Star Trek ship models, artwork, storyline, characters, references, all that lot. I really enjoyed it!
Yeah its not worth it at this price tag especially.
WARNING WARNING giddy penge
The crisp UI is the memorable thing about Stellaris.
How have they managed to ruin it in a mod several years later???
Sponsor? :o Getting paid to nerd? Hurry, find a time-machine and tell little Penge!
I've read and see many reviews that Star Trek: Infinite is riddled with bugs.
...........What do you mean the Ferengi aren't a playable faction?
Future DLC no doubt. They can add Dominion and Borg too as playable races.
planet deficit is not important btw
While I like the look of this game, it is lacking. We need the smaller races, the ability to play through all the history of the star fleet universe and a lore freindly map.
So, gonna wait for a while
basacly stelaris mod :(
This is just Stellaris with a Star Trek skin. A lot of Star Trek mods for Stellaris play better. Not sure who Paradox is trying to fool.
I can't compare because I haven't played those mods but I imagine with this game you can have a lot more 'official' Star Trek stuff, so music and artwork and names and suchlike, because there won't be any copyright issues. The mods might be better though, I have no idea!
Easy franchise for Paradox - just put Stellaris in a Star Trek shape and sell.... this company is unbelievable...
If only the games weren't sooooooo damn good...
So... it's kind of like a boardgame? I'd have expected a little more graphics & immersion for such a big IP like Star Trek..
lets be honest, this is just a reskin of stellaris
For their non masthead titles there is usually a large overlap in engine and systems. Usually happens before announcement of the next installment. (Sengoku for CK2, March of Eagles for EU4, etc.) They are usually a mixed bag. It does give them a good place to try new things that might not be worth putting in the main games. This does seem to have systems from EU4 (mission trees) and a lot of Stellaris. Will be interesting to see what else is in there.
A worst Stellaris, with frequent crashes, and broken events.
🎂🍰🍩🍪 Nothing wrong with accepting some cash for tea and cake. It's important to keep your strength up in the Cupboard, after all. 🖖
🥰I had such a lot of fun listening to your excitement everytime you came across something very "Star Trek" from the movies or shows. The game was also decent to watch, but I enjoyed the absolute joy in your voice through the whole video. 🤖 🖖
