Beyond Infinity Productions You look at the complaints on this film now and rise of silver surfer and ompare it to the new on and the old one seems like nit pics at least to some degre these films had family aspect of the characters and were more close toclasic fantastic four then the new one but this made the same mistake as every reboot(new one) but a billion times worse mos and TASM2 were better handled then the fantastic four reboot spider man 3 loooks better then the reboot ,the rebooots disapointing cause it couldve been up their with first class but now it just seems like a shitty version of first class il watch these 2005,2007 ff films any day over 2015 one
Your reviews are excellent. Not just, "oh, the casting sucks" or "the effects were nice", you actually go in depth to explain why these are good or bad movies. Kudos. You're the best critic out there. You recognize the the fun factor, but the depth that is necessary. Great job.
Wow... thinking back on this after Fant4stic, this movie deserved Best Picture at the Oscars, Jessica Alba should have won Best Actress, and Tim Story Best Director.
I actually like this movie, and I like some of the casting, like Ioan Gruffudd, Chris Evans: the future Captain America and Michael Chiklis and I guess Julian McMahon was allright, though I did not think JA was right for Sue Storm.
Very nice review, I've always thought Fantastic Four was a good movie and I knew it wasn't great since I knew it had some flaws, I couldn't pinpoint the flaws which you described them perfectly
I'm sorry but Chris Evans was far more perfect as Johnny Storm than Captain America. "That's gross." "Do you really want to walk around on fire for the rest of your life?" "Is that a trick question?" "Now picture that but EVERYWHERE." And then, all of the pranks on The Thing. That's Johnny Storm. That's brilliant comedy. Now what do we get in the MCU? "I have famously huge turds"?? WTF??
Those are some generous scores! I found the film to be sort of a waste of time. Had it set up a really solid franchise, I may have warmed to it. But that's not the case.
I never liked how the city threw a party for the Four. They didn't save the city. Doom wasn't trying to destroy the city, he was trying to destroy them, so, in effect, the city threw a party for the Fantastic Four acting in self defense and wrecking a lot of real estate.
This was one of the rare occurrences where i didnt' go bat$hit crazy when they didn't stay true to the storyline. People have hated on this film and to be honest I don't get it. Doom's origin wasn't correct, however despite that they still gave doom a decent power set and motivation to dislike Reed and ofcourse the iconic doom mask. They also made sure to have effective traps, just like doom would use. The representation of their powers at the least was done properly -- that alone should get some marks. It also felt to me that they got their powers but still really weren't all that ready to be heroes. It was only when they fought doom did they actually have to truly 'become' a team and become the fantastic four we know. Reed showed himself as a proper leader like he would in the source material by guiding them in their use of powers. Yes there were some 'really??' moments but it was a good attempt in my opinion. I'd like to hear from a comic book fan the issues that they had with this one.
But they didn't get time to go deeper into Doom's past. That was one of the problems with the sequel. Instead of focusing so much on Galactus, which they botched - they should've gave Dr Doom more history and explored more of his powers. Make it so that the only person who can save the Fantastic Four by the end of the film is The Silver Surfer
You should buy a pop filter for your microphone. All your videos feel really professional, and have great audio quality. ...but for less than twenty bucks, you can get rid of the popping noise and get a REALLY professional sound. And of course, great video. I absolutely LOVE these rewinds.
Some people are shallow but not ALL people. Pretend you're The Thing's wife (or The Thing) imagine if your husband went to join the army. When he cames back you discovers he lost one of his limbs. Would you A) talks thing out and see how it would all go down or B) takes your ring off and leaves without saying nothing
One element that wasn't mentioned was that the presentation of the Incredibles film forced the production of this film to re-do much of the plotting and some of the filming, primarily because the animated feature was a virtual steal of the script this film was supposed to follow. Much the reason for so many dissatisfying moments.
Good review. I agree with practically everything you said. It's a shame to me that this film doesn't really deliver as much as I wanted it to. The Fantastic Four are one of my favorite superhero groups around. I do feel like the bar has been risen for superhero movies though, and at the time this was made a lot of them were still a joke. Batman Begins came out this same year I think. Maybe a reboot years down the line will do it more justice.
Comparing this movie to Batman Begins is unfair. As Micheal Chiklis (aka the actor who played the Thing who is a big fan of the Fantastic 4) stated, you don't have to be dark and realistic to make a good superhero movie. The Fantastic 4 have always been upbeat since the 1960s when they've first debuted. But, the Fantastic 4 also has relatable family dynamics. So, the Fantastic 4 has always been a "dramady" while exporling the cosmos and saving the world. That's why Fant4stic (2015) failed.
This movie could've been better if they just improve the story by removing the whole storm reverse machine plot and focusing more on the four's abilities limit to save the world from total annihilation of Doom, thats it
Doctor Doom in this movie is bad in almost every sense of the word. Instead of being a highly intelligent, extremely powerful, and influential individual, he's become Norman Osborn with Electro's powers. While I somewhat like his trenchcoat look, the Doom from this film turns out as not forgettable, but I-wish-I-could-forget(table).
Honestly I don't see why Guardians of The Galaxy is any better then Fantastic 4. The story in Guardians is well there isn't one. Its a typical superhero story about a group that needs to beat a bad guy and the bad guy is evil just because.... he's a bad guy.
YES. THANK YOU. I mean, at least the Fantastic Four dispatched Doom with more dignity than doing a fucking dance off. A DANCE OFF to distract RONAN?? Really?
Jessica Alba has some good moments like when it's about Sue's relationship with Reed, or her interactions with Ben or Johnny, but as a hero she just feels out of place at times. I like the movie a lot (8/10) but Sue could've been cast better
hey man love your reviews - very clever and deep, keep em going! BTW are you planning to review any 90's superhero cartoon? cause the 90's superhero cartoon shows rocked!
Have you done anything on Batman the Animated Series from the early 90s? I'd like to see your analysis of that show since there's so much depth to a lot of the episodes.
I really can't tell what hurts this movie more; Doom or Sue. I am a huge Doom fan, and the script seems to forget what makes Doom DOOM. I know the Ultimate version has super-powers, but the classic Doom is so intimidating because he is Reed's rival (perhaps superior held back by his own megalomania) and is also such an accomplished sorcery. I could see dropping one of those, but tacking on super-powers? It's like adding Super powers to Batman. ...and with all that I still can't decide.
"It isn't until the final act that [Reed and Sue] start making any real progress, when Reed finally admits that Sue was right in that he overcomplicates things. But it would be easier for him to overcome that if she would just come out and tell him her feelings rather than dropping hints and rolling her eyes at him childishly when he doesn't pick up on them." To her, dropping hints and rolling her eyes WAS coming out and telling him her feelings. She's a chick!!
I am one of the few who really enjoyed both films... I look at them as kids movies that I happened to catch once in a while and in that mentality they seem a lot better lol. Btw is the ??? at the end suggesting you have a surprise next week or have you not yet decided Cap'n Logan?
Interesting that you mentioned Superman and Spider-Man in their mariages in contrast to Reed and Sue's... personally, I think Clark and Peter are more interesting BEFORE they're married. Clark is supposed to have this major problem with not being noticed by Lois, and Peter has drama with women left and right, and when you marry them... those things go away, and especially with Clark, those early days are most interesting to me.
Jessica Alba looked awful in this film, in the first she looked so much better. I never read the comics so i don't know what you are talking about but i love Dr. Doom, he is the best of this movies IMO because he is evil but i wish they would develop his character a lot more.
I'll explain it to you. 1) The Avengers is taken more seriously than FF4 2) If you seen all of Marvel movies of each individual characters before the Avengers you'll realized that those movie was a set up towards this 3) The Avengers wasn't much about what happened in the movie but how it happened.Okay,The plot was simple as it but it still entertainment and they're other movies out there with a plot just as simple such as Avatar, Cinderella, Mega Mind and many more but still entertainment.
But I like legitimately like it. I see what your saying. Probably a little dose of nostalgia here too. I mean the original fantastic four was a bit silly wasn't it? I mean not as good as amzing spider man. But it lasted, I think this movie captures that fun spirit.
and theyr are parts where ironman and hulk are talking about how they are the same.and banner says but you can control it.its different.and yet at the end he transforms into the hulk and fights with the avengers.so I guess he can control it just fine.they couldv had a scene where hulk goes out of control and ironman gets through to him saying look at what your doing your destroying everything and then hes able to control it.but no he fights on theyr side just fine
I think Tim Story is a good director but he was given a shit script. Marvel studios needs to buy both Fantastic 4 and X-men from FOX since FOX clearly has no idea what to do with superhero movies.
How???? In FF4, The characters spent the whole movie exploring their power instead of becoming superheroes and dealing with super villain plots. In Avengers, Each characters already established that in earlier movies and the villain plot isn't in the background. The heart of the movie isn't lies within the story but how the characters of the movie are pair off as opposite of each other.
they do that in this movie too.in the avengers they don't fallow through with it.in thor the movie thor learns not to be destructive and not want to seek war.but in avengers cap America says prove that your on our side.put the hammer down.and for no reason he hits cap Americas shield.that totally ruins his character arc.hes still a hot head in this movie.
@geekvolution 20th century fox didn't need to give doom powers if they wanted to give doom power they could've made him a sorcerer which he is a lot later in the comics.
Exactly, My point is that they're are some people just like you that love someone no matter what happened to them.It just questionable into what did the thing exactly see in his wife if she were so selfish.
I liked Eoin Griffudd, Chris Evan and Micheal Chiklis in these films, I wouldn't mind if they reprised their roles for the reboot, just recast Jessica Alba and whatshisname from Nip/Tuck who played Doom... and don't make Galactus the smoke monster from lost!!!!
You mention Wolverine's past with Sabretooth like it was in the comics. It was planned that Wolverine be Sabretooth's son but that was scrapped. No connection between the two exists besides their coincidentally similar powers.
the reason I would choose something like tdk trilogy.yes all 3 of them.over the avengers is because all 3 have a good story.thats why I think avengers is ok.i mean you say tdkr has plotholes and makes no sense.which yes it does make sense and I have exlinations for every plothole.avengers is filled with plotholes.i found a total of 14 I think.so whats the difference between avengers and FF4 movies.please I wanna know.im confused
I have a question for you cap.yes this is a really fun movie.but lacks a good story.and the score you gave it means its good or just ok.i agree with your score for this.but.why do you love avengers.you love it.and you think this is ok or just good.avengers is the very similer.its fun action packed.good special effects.but like ff4 lacks a good story.how does this make sense.i don't understand it.it seems like you contradicted yourself to me
I liked this movie when I watched it but I found myself almost bored as for the most part of this film not much happens. They get superpowers and they become famous because of it. Theres alot of talk about using there powers for good but it rarely takes place. Its almost a superhero soup opera with sub-plots and character developments being the main theme. But I really took a dislike to having Docter Doom so in the background I mean what were u doing? Things just didnt make sense for me.
The only thing I hate and despise are those disgusting crappy looking stretchy arms that reed has it looks too cartoony the green screen effects were atrocious
I think is a pilot in disguise, if this was a TV show pilot, I think most of you complements can be thrown out the window because there would be a episode next week. I also hate Dr. Doom in this movie, unlike most superhero movies that things about the character wrong, there is about nothing right hear, I wish Dr. Doom's past was a mastery, because comic book Doom is so much better and I know a lot of people who think this is how Dr. Doom got his powers and to me that's not a good thing.
"I will Defend the 2015 film. I enjoyed it. It's BETTER THAN WINTER SOLDIER. And Civil War." Fant4stic is amazing and much much better than this film. And Silver Surfer
ok yes I agree.but he says this movie is entertaining but his problem with it.is it dosnt tell much of a story.i agree.but he contradicted himself by loving the avengers.if he gives the avengers a 3.im going to be very angry.the avengers is a sitcom with great special effects and action.and cool 1 liners
@9fires Oh don't get me wrong, Ms Alba is an attractive woman.... except when the make-up department give her a wig that makes her face look long. You can continue to pleasue yourself over this movie and its fish woman, while I criticize, because I'm a human being and have that right.
Not to contradict you, BUT I honestly hate this movie as much as is physically possible because of how crappily both Ben Grimm and Doctor Doom were executed.
I think certain comic characters should be super model beautiful, and sue storm is one of them. I always thought part of her appeal is that she could easily be a she-hulk or paris hilton type individual that men and media ogle for, but she dismisses this role at every turn because of her family devotion. she is like an introversion of kate gosselin.
and also theres a part where cap America says take away the suite what are you your nothing.yea but by that logice without the super soldier surum what are you.your just a kid from brookland.or thor take away your hammer what are you.your just an alian.hey hulk take away gamma radiation what are you.
+Kira Lawlet ummm no, we basically want a story similar to what people actually liked about the comics in the first place....ohhhh wait...that's what they're doing....and it's working...hmmm what are the odds of that?? >_>
Naw. We are ok with deep and meaningful( X-men 2, Spider-Man 2, Civil War. Winter Soldier). What we don't like is nonsense and non-fun. You know, most DC movies.
It's still good to have a story of some sort and not just a string of situations. That said, consider he gave the extended version a 2.5, which is saying it's slightly above average. It's not bad or great, just pretty good.
Better than the one that comes out 10 years later
the reboot makes the 2005 version look like a masterpiece

It's Fant4stic

I honestly liked this movie a lot more than I thought I would after hearing reviews. I would take this over daredevil, ghost rider etc all day
There's an extended cut? Wow.
I don't mind this movie. Good review Cap.
I'm sorry but Chris Evans was far more perfect as Johnny Storm than Captain America. "That's gross." "Do you really want to walk around on fire for the rest of your life?" "Is that a trick question?" I would love my husband/wife no matter what happened to them. I believe if love is real, you would stand by the person you love no matter what.
The Thing suit was Michael Chiklis' idea. He asked to be in that f**king mobile sweat room. That's dedication
Those are some generous scores! I found the film to be sort of a waste of time. Had it set up a really solid franchise, I may have warmed to it. But that's not the case.

Dave Robson Well they did save people on the bridge it could've been for that

Faris Fachir and write them as complex and great as they are in the comics.
@goku48071 I agree that it's like a TV pilot. I've thought that before too.
-Captain Logan
Doctor Doom in this movie is bad in almost every sense of the word. Wow great review. I also think this movie is a little too much like a comedy to be taken serious. Good but not as good as alot of other comic movies.
I really can't tell what hurts this movie more; Doom or Sue. I am a huge Doom fan, and the script seems to forget what makes Doom DOOM. I know the Ultimate version has super-powers, but the classic Doom is so intimidating because he is Reed's rival (perhaps superior held back by his own megalomania) and is also such an accomplished sorcery. ...and with all that I still can't decide.
awesome job guys
Ending of the movie: So, um jail? No? Okay.
i know this is 2 years old.but hey in the ultimate fantastic4 universe this is how doom got his powers.
"It isn't until the final act that [Reed and Sue] start making any real progress, when Reed finally admits that Sue was right in that he overcomplicates things. @Geekvolution ahh I can't wait. Your reviews are the best way to cap off a week haha.
I am one of the few who really enjoyed both films... I look at them as kids movies that I happened to catch once in a while and in that mentality they seem a lot better lol.

I feel they should have taken the plot from the Ultimate FF comics for the film version. It would have made a much better film!
I liked this wayy more than Avengers. I appreciated they explored Sue and Reed's relationship
I probably like it for nostalgia
But I like legitimately like it. I see what your saying. Probably a little dose of nostalgia here too. I mean the original fantastic four was a bit silly wasn't it? I mean not as good as amzing spider man. But it lasted, I think this movie captures that fun spirit.
Wow. Thems fighting words to Disney / Marvel shills.
I did a Top 10 episodes but I need to re-upload it.

@RyouuichiKun15 I'm doing a comparison of the animated and live action Tick pilots next!

I always loved these movies and I always will. I don't care what anyone says. Good video tho.

Tyler Washington The FF origin in the comics doesn't have a whole lot of story that comes afterwards where stuff gets interesting.
@pladampa Yeah, I do need to get that one knocked out. Thanks for the reminder-- I do have a copy.

Very nice!!! Keep doing those movie reviews! :D
I hate to break it to Captain Logan here.. but yeah real people can be just as Shallow as The Thing's wife. Trust me, I know lol
they do that in this movie too.in the avengers they don't fallow through with it.in thor the movie thor learns not to be destructive and not want to seek war.but in avengers cap America says prove that your on our side.put the hammer down.and for no reason he hits cap Americas shield.that totally ruins his character arc.hes still a hot head in this movie.

They should reboot this movie and have vin diesel play the thing
have you done a review of Push?
I liked Eoin Griffudd, Chris Evan and Micheal Chiklis in these films, I wouldn't mind if they reprised their roles for the reboot, just recast Jessica Alba and whatshisname from Nip/Tuck who played Doom... and don't make Galactus the smoke monster from lost!!!!
Holy crap ben's wife is Laurie Holden from the walking dead!!!
bens going to be CGI in the reboot
Is it me or should both of these movies just been one film?
You mention Wolverine's past with Sabretooth like it was in the comics. It was planned that Wolverine be Sabretooth's son but that was scrapped. No connection between the two exists besides their coincidentally similar powers.
@9fires WTF are you talking about? She looks like a fish in the second film. The flat blonde hair looked BAD!
the reason I would choose something like tdk trilogy.yes all 3 of them.over the avengers is because all 3 have a good story.thats why I think avengers is ok.i mean you say tdkr has plotholes and makes no sense.which yes it does make sense and I have exlinations for every plothole.avengers is filled with plotholes.i found a total of 14 I think.so whats the difference between avengers and FF4 movies.please I wanna know.im confused

I agree, the actor for Doom, I liked but the character was too much like Norman Osborn from Spider-man.
what is theme music someone tell me
"Backyard Super Kid" by Justin Roberts.
I really liked this movie.
@WhySoSerious0331 Nope, it's a surprise!

It was better than the 2nd one

the green screen effects were atrocious
Great effects for the time. Johnny even makes a great comment about Mr. Fantastic's stretchy arms
@Geekvolution I'm severely disappointed as I watched this video just to figure out what was going to be shown next week. Haha
Backyard Super Kid by Justin Roberts
This movie is a masterpiece compared to the new Fant4stic bullshit!
And Civil War."
Fant4stic is amazing and much much better than this film. And Silver Surfer
If this film was traded with Fant4stic, it would have had a better result.
What do mean by that?
As in trading release dates.
ok yes I agree.but he says this movie is entertaining but his problem with it.is it dosnt tell much of a story.i agree.but he contradicted himself by loving the avengers.if he gives the avengers a 3.im going to be very angry.the avengers is a sitcom with great special effects and action.and cool 1 liners
What is that intro song?
Great reveiw.
There was plenty of story in this movie. Look at the director.
I always thought part of her appeal is that she could easily be a she-hulk or paris hilton type individual that men and media ogle for, but she dismisses this role at every turn because of her family devotion. she is like an introversion of kate gosselin.
captain america is also johnny storm lol #MindFreak
The song at the beginning is copied off of HIMYM
I thought fantastic 4 was good incuding rise of the silver surfer
@9fires And if I was your "pal", I'd have sent you a friend request.
@funghoulwarrior88
I mean I would give 4 out of 10.
10/3
Yes to the reboot. No to vin diesel
the avengers takes itself just as seriously as this
doom makes 1 mistake and he is ruined just like osborn in spidey .
Doctor Doom "WAS NOT" Doctor Doom in this fantastic flop.
Gimme a fucking break. Compared to Loki and Ultron, this guy actually feels threatening
and also theres a part where cap America says take away the suite what are you your nothing.yea but by that logice without the super soldier surum what are you.your just a kid from brookland.or thor take away your hammer what are you.your just an alian.hey hulk take away gamma radiation what are you.
This movie was pretty bad.
Fantastic Four 2 is a better bad movie.
Fun but Bland.
@Geekvolution
woot, Tick FTW man, but who cares about Live action? yer just wasting yer time - it was No fun!
You're Marvel fans you don't want deep and meaningful you want one-liners,action and blowing things up....and Loki
+Kira Lawlet well apparently one-liners, action, blowing things up and Loki is doing pretty damn well. More companies should follow it's lead
No I like things the way they are Marvel light fun and goofy DC grimdark and serious.
Kira Lawlet both are good
+Kira Lawlet ummm no, we basically want a story similar to what people actually liked about the comics in the first place....ohhhh wait...that's what they're doing....and it's working...hmmm what are the odds of that?? >_>
Naw. We are ok with deep and meaningful( X-men 2, Spider-Man 2, Civil War. Winter Soldier). What we don't like is nonsense and non-fun. You know, most DC movies.
your a little to harch on this movie a suppose to be a fun superhero movie remeber it no dark knight
It's still good to have a story of some sort and not just a string of situations. That said, consider he gave the extended version a 2.5, which is saying it's slightly above average. It's not bad or great, just pretty good.
